Vintage Dresser Mirror Makeover with Turquoise Chalk Paint and Brown Wax Glazing
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 тра 2019
- Today I'm showing you how to paint dresser mirrors. I used Dixie Belle chalk paint products on this piece and it went by REALLY fast. Along with using a turquoise chalk paint, I used Dixie Belle brown wax to glaze the piece and mute the color. You can buy all of these products from Dixie Belle Paint Company online: dixiebellepaint.com?aff=223
I started by taking the back off of the mirror, removed all of the staples. Gave everything a good cleaning with Dixie Belle White Lightning cleaner which is a great TSP product.
After that I just had to paint the chalk paint on with a brush, allow it to dry, apply the brown wax, and wipe it off to get this beautiful look.
Let me know what you think about this piece in the comments!
Any purchases made from the above links give me a little extra money. Thank you for your support! - Навчання та стиль
Just found your video. Finally, another man that upcycles. I don’t feel lonely now. Thanks man!!! And I needed this inspiration, I’m doing a chest exactly with this process and I wasn’t sure. Thanks again
A massive reeducation in one evening. As a student of furniture restoration, I marvel at your accomplishments, your risk at using what you have at hand, (I too have mucho cans of paint, waiting to be opened) and your remarkable results. They always look sharp.
It will be 50 years old tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to do these videos. Very helpful.
So close to the exact date! Thanks for watching!
One and a half years later I get to see this good idea for a large mirror I have... Waiting first big snowstorm, I can plan it out.
Good luck!
@@ThatShabbyGuy snow started an hour ago. Luck and hunkering down will get me thru. Thanks again.
This is beautiful work and amazing Information! Thank you for your time and Inspiration 🙏🎶💚
Beautiful finished color. .thanks for going over all the steps/tips with removing and replacing staples,etc...
Very nice, recently I purchased a dresser mirror very similar to yours. Took the mirror out , decided I was going to make a chalk board where the mirror was. I used the backing and used chalk board paint, now I can write seasonal message on it. I plan to use it by my front door, outside.
The mirror turned out great as all your projects are! When young and I’m old now, we used TSP for everything. Washing walls and didnt take flat paint off! It got harder and harder to find, was in a box. The one they substituted it with is not the same. Tri sodium phosphate. So my mother switched to using Tide powder detergent. It probably doesn’t have phosphates now either but i still use it to clean a lot of things. It works. I use it to wash carpets and upholstery too. You foam it up and use the foam and a scrub brush. Just an old lady hint. I’m looking for that Dixie Bell though.
Great choice of music and good choice bringing commentary to the videos. Your channel is going to grow immensely!
Thank you! I just need to get more videos out! :)
lol man. I just checked out your channel and saw the "HOLY FUCK I LOVE APPLES" video. Died laughing. Good way to start the day. Also saw the Eve Online video. Also a former space pilot but I just did mining. Thanks for checking out my channel!
I love the glaze over that paint it looks awesome thanks for the tips on removing the back off these old Mears I have a number of these old mirrors down downstairs and might try to make the attempt of painting and staining or glazing Beastmaster do with the dressers that I have upstairs thanks for sharing have a great day God bless
I was less than 6 months old when that mirror was made... Very cool! You did a great job giving the mirror new life!
AWESOME BLOSSOM

BEAUTIFUL!
Wax On. -- Wax Off
Looking good, I love chalk paint it’s so quick and easy, so you can finish a project in a few hours, no hours and hours of waiting to dry. 👍
I really enjoy your videos. Appreciate the way you explain and show different ways to refurbish furniture. That mirror encouraged me as I have two old mirrors that belonged to my great aunt that I was afraid to undue the backing. Thanks so much for being so patient when you explain.
Absolutely Gorgeous

Hmm...I'd say you were a fan of that turquoise color, you use it a lot! Me, I'm a Queen Anne, Duncan Phyfe gal myself!

I like the attemped finger gun roll. Glad it didn't go thru the mirror. Hehe. Great videos.
Glad he didn’t shoot a nail in his foot 🦶
Nicely done!!! Cool voice too

Well then, thanks for your support! New video coming out tomorrow morning!
I don't like it! I love it ❣️ Great job! Your the best ❣️ I enjoy watching you work on your projects. I'm still learning how to be as good as you 😁👍
Wow 💯👍👌
That was perfect timing! I’m about to do my bedroom set with a mirror!!! I love Dixie Bell. Thinking about using Duck Egg. Do you have a suggestion for the color of wax I should use? Thanks!
Love the way you pay attention to detail...and take great pride in your work. The mirror turned out gorgeous!! And great touch on leaving your mark. Too cool.
New subbie here!! 😘
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Looks beautiful, well done! I'm just starting out redoing furniture. I'm thinking about getting some Dixie Belle paints. How long does it take for the wax to "cure" after wiping it off? Will it come off over time?
Haces unos trabajos estupendos enhorabuna desde bilbao
Have you tried diy chalk paint? Denies design diary. Her paint has clay in it and high pigment. No chemicals
You just reminded me, I have a stapler that seems similar to yours that I haven't used in ages. What size are them Staples?
Have you ever work on light wood, something like oak or oregan
Another nice finish... Make your own chalk paint, Annie and Dixie are a bit pricey.
Good thing you weren't standing over the mirror when you twerled the staple gun🤠
👍👍
Dude, u can make a full list of products you use on amazon and include it in every video. That would be very helpful.
My newer videos have supply lists. Dixie Belle products you can buy from Dixie Belle online. :)
I've also been meaning to go through and edit the old videos to have supply lists. Just need to find time to do it.
@@ThatShabbyGuy But you don't get a commission if I go to their site on my own
The links I list give me commission. Just takes a bit of time to do.
Thing is I dont use the same products every single time. So when I do a video, I have to go through and manually list each product I used for that video. Life gets busy. Takes a good bit to get it done. I try to update an old video every weekend or so depending on its popularity.
What do you suggest if the back doesn't come off? I don't want the original color showing thru on the sides do to your reflection.
Hi, can the chalk paint be used on plastic? I have a mirror framed in plastic and want to try to save it.
Looks very nice. Do you plan to use this yourself or sell it? Don’t you sell most of your pieces?
It needs a little gold
Is your house just filled with beautiful pieces?
Nope! I sell it all. We don't have any painted furniture except for an old coffee table I did about 3-4 years ago. lol
How do you find buyers for your work?
Mi piace
Thanks!
No sealer?
What’s up buddy cool finish it’s funny because I pick up two mirrors that look almost like the one u did mini had more frame to it and I did the same turquoise finish and I gave them to my sis and she put then behind her night stand table to give it a different look to them take care buddy Raymond in New York ❤️👍✌️
Hey, Ray! Thats awesome! Glad you're still watching!
Looks beautiful but you make me nervous with your staple gun around the mirror! Lol
Psh! I had it under control! :D
Nice job, but not my color preference for sure.
Thanks!
I think if I were you I would think twice about the fancy moves with the staple gun and the drill the way you were slinging them around. You could have had a broken mirror and that would kinda make the job a lost cause......
I had an identical second mirror as a back up. :)
believe it or not when i was just watching and you fumbled that staple gun my stomach felt like when you are in a car and you speed real fast over a short little hill. (Do you know that feeling?) Lol
I really enjoy watching the changes you can make in the things you do... you do a great job......
You took it from ugly dated late 60's Mediterranean style to cool on-trend Moroccan style.
