Hero Mother Orangutan Raising Her Son and Grandson !! Amazing Mom !!

- Mother Orangutan Jazz gave birth to her son Jim and some time later her Daughter Sprout give birth to a son named Joe at Dudley Zoo. Unfortunately First time mother Sprout wasn't quite ready to raise her baby. Jim is slightly larger and has lighter fur than his nephew Joe.
Amazingly Jazz took over the responsibility in true hero grandmother style and is now caring for and feeding both babies.
Watching this family is truly awe inspiring and younger mother Sprout is starting to interact more with the babies now and we will upload a video of this soon. We are sure that this experience will enable her to be ready for motherhood next time around.

Did Jazz see the need on her own or did humans have to get her started? No matter what, how loving to give Joe what he needed. The boys share their momma well! Orangutans are my favorite primate. They seem more laid back and thoughtful. Or I just love fly-away red hair and solemn faces that study us right back! Beautiful creatures.
When we spoke to the keepers they said she just got on with things and started looking after Joe as well. I guess her instincts just took over. Thanks so much for watching, really glad you enjoyed our video. Keep well and have a wonderful week. 🥰

I love this little family! Jazz looks like her keeper regularly trims her “bangs” so her hair doesn’t get in her eyes.😂She’s the the most serene super mom ever, like having “twins” is nothing even though it’s very rare for orangutans. In the wild I don’t think a mother with her own infant would adopt an abandoned baby as they have to invest all their food energy into feeding their one baby, but being in a zoo she must have felt secure enough to take on an extra mouth to feed. I think the keepers give these babies supplemental feeding as well.
I believe I say this daily I love orangutans, they are super amazing with the most beautiful souls.

Her daughter Sprout didn't really show any interest in the baby she had, Grandmother Jazz had also given birth and instinctively took over looking after the second baby. Daughter Sprout is still young at 12 and will hopefully be prepared for her next child. Thanks for watching. 🥰

They are deprived of the most significant factor to their existence: life on trees. These creatures are not supposed to walk on the ground
I've spent hundreds of hours watching Chimp babies but even i have to admit, there isn't anything cuter than an Orangutan baby, they are much sweeter natured too, no offense to chimp babies of course.
We love all of the apes, and have followed the chimp families very closely. That said chimps are a law unto themselves.
Arnt they 99% like us so as with some humans i guess being a mum doesn't always go well .

Was the baby rejected by its mother and she’s taken over ..?
Yes Sprout was a young first-time mother and wasn't interested in rearing her baby, so her mother Jazz took over, she had only just had a new baby herself and was able to rear the baby

Imagine if you could never leave your house. I'm probably projecting. But at moments in this, when she looked around her enclosure, It looked to me as if she was thinking regretfully about having brought a child into a cage.
Why do we continue to flog the idea that humans are the only self aware sentient beings? So animals shouldn't mind being caged.

sprout didn't want to take care of her newborn son, so jazz adopted him.

She still lives in the group. She wouldn’t hold or feed her baby when he was born and just walked away from him; normally keepers would take and hand raise a baby orangutan if that happened, but her mom intervened right away and started feeding the baby along with her own. Sprout was probably a bit too young for motherhood. She spends a lot of time with her mom and the babies and sometimes plays with them.

Why is she raising her grandchild?
As a young adult and first-time mother, her daughter showed no interest in raising her baby, so her mum stepped in to raise him as she had a 1 month old baby herself
