  • More footage of baby orangutan Jarang spending some wonderful time with
    his mother Jingga.
Filmed in February 2024 Baby Jarang has put weight on since my last visit and seems stronger and more alert. Jingga's methods are still unconventional and she still shows inexperience but she is caring for baby and feeding him well.
The newborn baby is a critically endangered bornean orangutan born to first time Orangutan mother Jingga
this video was recorded in February 2024
UA-cam sensation Jingga has had social media fame before when a video featuring her went viral back in 2015 - viral video - monkey sees a magic trick
The video was filmed at her in her previous home Barcelona Zoo in Spain
Jingga move to her new home Blackpool Zoo in 2017 to join her new Blackpool Orangutan family as part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP)
14 year old Jingga was born in Barcelona in 2009 to mother Jawi and Father Karl
Now Jingga is settled at Blackpool zoo and has given birth for the first time to the tiny baby boy orangutan named Jarang
The father of the newborn baby orangutan is 13 year old Kawan who has recently moved to Blackpool Zoo in 2022 from Apenheul Zoo in the Netherlands and was an instant hit with the resident female orangutans Cherie Summer and Jingga
He came to the zoo as part of the European Endangered Species program after his much loved predecessor Ramon was moved to a new group in Germany where he has just become a new father himself
Kawan was specially selected by experts to join the female group at Blackpool Zoo and has settled into his new role as alpha male orangutan very well
Happy Mothers Day UK ! #mothersday
We have recently added Blackpool Zoo to our list of zoos that we will be frequently visiting to film the apes, so watch out for more footage of this fantastic zoo. Blackpool has Gorillas and Bornean Orangutans and we were really impressed with both areas.
There are currently 5 Bornean Orangutans in one family group at Blackpool Zoo consisting of adult females Cherie Summer and Jingga
Alpha Male Kawan and the new male baby orangutan Jarang
Thanks for watching, please Like, Comment and Subscribe!
Blackpool Zoo is a 32-acre zoo and located in the sea-side resort of Blackpool, Lancashire, England. It provides a home to over 1,350 animals from all over the world.

He’s always smiling and he’s soo precious!! Little guy I’m praying for you!! He’s got the biggest cutest eyes ever!! She loves her baby and she may realize something is wrong with him but it’s not all her fault, she gives him kisses and he loves her back. I feel like the zoo is working with them but not telling everything. When we see them out let’s try finding positive things to say! And not put down mom, everything isn’t her fault!! For all we know is that he does have a serious condition and his life span might not be that long 🤷‍♀️but soo just doesn’t want to say because then there will be a 1,000 more statements. Let’s let mom and son enjoy each other when we see them out because again we don’t know what all the zookeepers are doing. Him crawling and raising himself up that was a milestone for him. Soo good job little man!!! And maybe they can’t do surgery right now because of his condition and he needs to get a little stronger before they can do something for his private area. He sat up for a second, good job little man. Hes moving more and rolled over and sat up ❤❤❤ it’s just like having a premature baby, sometimes you have to wait for the small things before doing the big things. One day he’s gonna be like y’all see me, I’m big now ❤❤❤😅😅😅

I sent an email to the Orangutan Foundation in the UK asking them to please look into this zoo and what is going on with Jinga and baby Jarang. I told them that I was afraid that Jarang might die. That he isn't being fed properly and that his scrotum is still so swollen. Probably from being dragged along the floor and everywhere else. I hope they write back to me and I hope they will take this seriously. I will be praying for both mother and baby!!

Jinga was hand raised so she has not had her mother's example. Plus we are told the other females in the group can get aggressive. So maybe a young male could be put in with her. I agree she is bored and lonely. Her actions speak loudly. When she first started carrying him she was still quite careful. Now the one arm swing carry is getting more sloppy. Time is up on the wait and see. Take him
      staff and rear him gently.

      @@ApeTracker1Is Jarang her first?
What is your opinion of the situation! Is he “special” and they are all doing their best?
OR is the zoo aware and ignoring it?
Also, had he actually latched and was sucking or was he still rooting for the nipple?

    • @ApeTracker1
      @ApeTracker1  5 місяців тому +4

Yes, this is her first baby, my honest opinion is that he is certainly behind in development compared to other babies and I think this is partly due to his mother not pushing him to learn. I think as he grows he will catch up, just as human babies do. The Zoo monitors him very closely by both keepers and vets, this I do know first hand. The Zoo wants nothing more than their animals to do well and many of the decisions come down from the European Breeding Program. Practice is now that hand raising babies by humans is detrimental to the survival of the species even though to us is seems the best approach. It is a real shame that people attack the Zoo as they are so caring for their animals. Hope this helps. 👍

I don’t see how he’s going to thrive. It’s taking more of the calories he’s eating just to get rolled over and to get to mom, who then stops him from feeding. He needs to learn how to be an orangutan from his mother too. That’s why orang babies are with mom the longest of other primates. The moms NEVER put them down the few months. I feel so bad. Hopefully the zoo is supplementing his feedings.

Awwww - such a sweet interaction❣️ Jingga is very tender with Jarang - he’s very active in this clip and was even able to pull himself up to a sitting position❣️ His coordination isn’t good, bless him, but he is getting stronger. I’ve said it before, but his developmental issues aren’t anybody’s fault: not Jingga’s, not the zoo’s and certainly not his. ❤ Sometimes, babies are born with health challenges that no amount of medical intervention can fix. I am sure Jingga and Jarang are seen by a vet, plus they are surrounded every day by experts in animal care. If there was something that COULD be done, why do some people imagine that the zoo would not do that?? What else do people think the zoo “should” be doing? Take Jarang from his mother, maybe? They are strongly bonded, so the consequences for Jarang’s mental and emotional health would be devastating and permanent. So what else - take them off display? That may calm the hysteria in some quarters, but it wouldn’t cure Jarang’s condition. 😢😢
A baby with developmental issues a tough job for a mother of any species, let alone a first-time mum! 😢 I’m sure the situation presents the zoo with a lot of challenges as well - but Blackpool Zoo has decided to support Jingga and Jarang to remain together, which is so important for an infant orangutan. Zoos have an important role to play in increasing our understanding of animals. They’re not just there to provide us with “cute” things to look at. (Although I think that Jarang and Jingga are very cute❣️) Hopefully, Jarang will continue to improve and we can all learn something about how best to support a baby orang with developmental difficulties. Personally, I applaud Blackpool for keeping Jingga and Jarang in the public eye. I don’t find this nearly as hard to watch as those terrible UA-cam videos in which people dress little monkeys in dolls’ clothes and make them act out scenarios with toys or other animals because - apparently - it’s “cute”. To me, THAT is animal abuse and very distressing. (I’ve blocked dozens of channels like that, but they keep appearing in my feed.😢) This is just a sweet little fellow with some health challenges - to me, that doesn’t make him disgusting, his mum negligent, or the zoo a “bad zoo”. 😢 I’m rooting hard for both Jarang and Jingga and hope to see more videos where they are growing stronger together. 🙏🙏❤❤

I would have thought it would be difficult to hear him make any noise through the thick glass. I would also presume the rooms are noise protected for the animals sake. With a large large amount of people watching them, lots of young children, the noise would be awful and the animals would never be able to rest. So I think the glass is sound proofed and the 'unusual involentary mouth movements' people have spoken about might just be him crying or squeeking.

What a joke that heading is!! I really don't think he is enjoying time with his mom!! Poor Jarang, he struggles to get to her breast only for her to keep it away from him by holding him back where he started. I believe that she doesn't like him feeding so she holds him away from her. but he knew where he wanted to go and he actually made it there, but she sadly kept him from nursing. he will eventually die if they don't step in with soy milk that has what he needs to gain some weight. True. The mother does not seems to know what to do. Has she been around other mothers and babies,? They should have learned from their own mothers how to behave with a baby. I see no spark in her when she gets close to the baby. She doesn't respond when he grasps her arm. She looks depressed. He needs interventiom. I vehemently oppose taking these animals from mothers but it would do better being hand raised in a sanctuary and then hopefully live out his life with companions. Does this baby have a medical condition?

I wish the zoo would put out a definitive statement. If they are going to "let him go" we should know. If he is getting any supplemental feeding, etc. that would allay a lot of fears. As for his "lump"...well, he's too small to operate on and maybe it's something that could be fixed later. Or, it may be a birth defect. Regardless, it seems to me, as an untrained observer, that if he grows up he may be an invalid...very challenging situation....Mother herself doesn't seem to be acting like we see others act either, but then again, her baby isn't the usual either. When she was dragging him around by the legs maybe that was all she COULD do as he had no strength at all at that point. Such a difficult situation!
