    This reminds me of when I went to Norway. In Oslo we were trying to decide whether to go on to Flåm or wait out some rainy weather. When we saw a rainbow, we decided to go. Then we took a boat thru the fjords from Flåm to Bergen, and people were saying how everything was booked in Bergen. We had no reservations, but as we got close to Bergen, we saw a double rainbow, and we felt everything would be ok. When we got to Bergen, we went to the train station, where we waited in line to get a place to stay at the info center. They were having to send everyone out on the train to a nearby city. When the gal was finishing with the guy ahead of us, her phone rang, and it was a nearby student hotel that just had a room for 2 open up! We couldn't believe it!

    I'm always amazed by how fast the switch is thrown and the signal clears at these meets. Here in the US Dispatchers can pre-set the route yet it will take 30-45 seconds for the signal to come up.
    Anyway, tangent over. Thanks for posting these excellent videos, I know you put a lot of effort into them!

    • @RailCowGirl
      @RailCowGirl  4 роки тому

      i guess that's because it's no underlying axel detection system on certain lines in the US :) and that they have to confirm with the traffic controller / dispatch about their position?
      here the safety system can detect when the whole train has arrived the station and is not in conflict with the neighbouring track... and will a that automatically throw the switch and clear path :)

    • @jsunflyguy
      @jsunflyguy 4 роки тому +1

      @@RailCowGirl it is true we have some areas with manual switches and traffic controlled by communicating with the Dispatcher, similar to the Flam line if I infer from the videos correctly. But the areas I'm thinking of are Signalled routes on a Commuter railroad.
      I have a theory from watching our Dispatchers: Perhaps the Norse system stores the route in the interlocking at the switch so as soon as the interlocking clears in the field the route is ready to launch. Stacked routes on my railroad seem to be stored in the dispatch software so the interlocking has to clear, send the indication to the dispatch center, then the computer processes the clear route and sends the command to the interlocking which then sets the route. So several extra steps (even though the dispatcher is doing the same action on the interface).

    • @RailCowGirl
      @RailCowGirl  4 роки тому

      @@jsunflyguy It's the same thing that happens here. All meets are predetermined and train paths are already set. The Traffic controller can of course go in and alter these or override the system and run it in "manual" (not bypassing any safety measures).
      I guess it's just a different way of pinging the line block to check if it's free. But, If you'er thinking of how fast a train can enter after I've stopped, then that could be the editing. ;) We do have a station lock of 90 seconds after a train has entered the station. After 90seconds the second train can enter. This is done to make sure the first train is standing still before the other train can enter. :) and that there is no conflict at the switches :)

    Wow ... the moose was pretty close to the tracks and thank heavens he heard you coming and scampered off the ballast into the bush. I know you have spoken about wildlife on the tracks before and what you are required to do .. but do you ever blast the horn when you see them or perhaps would that cause them to panic and possibly run in the wrong direction thus causing them to be hit by the train?

    • @RailCowGirl
      @RailCowGirl  4 роки тому

      They all react differently. In this case I oped not to sound the horn as it would have stressed the animal further and it could have gone onto the tracks because it would be easier for it to try and run there.

    Trolldalen... With a name like that it just HAD to be in a cave :) Serious question though @RCG... You mention the vibration in the description and I note at the start of the video the EL18 didn't sound the same as usual. Do you report this to the depot? Or is there a log in the cab for that sort of thing? How does fault reporting work in Norway? The vibration does give the EL18 a nice 2,200 bhp diesel sound though lol!
