- This bag is huge, and has compartments inside for a laptop sleeve, wine bottle, or your favourite drink bottle, and a welt pocket, as well as loads of storage space.
The sleeve fits over a travel trolley handle with ease, and has magnetic snaps on the inside.

What a beautiful print fabric you are using for the lining!
You are a genius. Thank you for such good directions, I will be alternating to my needs. Again thank you
Happy to help Martha. Thank you😁
I like the double handles for the added strength but they would drive me nuts separated like that. I would sew the inner and outer handles together in a few places. Once across just above the top of the bag then skip 6”-8”sew across again and then sew the top parts of the handles together. By skipping 6-8” at the bottom, it leaves a nice loop to thread a jacket through. I’m always laying my jacket on the top of my bag and picking it up off the floor😂 a loop right in the handle would probably hold it more securely and be handy as heck.
I agree Cynthia, but thought I'd give the options. I did sew mine together this morning 😁
another option would be to create small pockets inside to store the inner handles out of the way until you need them
My favorite part about your designs is that they are simple, functional and beautiful but also you explain your planning so efficiently that if someone wanted to make changes to personalize their design it’s easy to do so. Great job, as always! ❤❤🎉
Thank you so much BG 😃
St finished my bag. I love it. Made it out of faux suede. This is replacing my old carry on large bag.
That's great Heather. If you're on Facebook, we'd love to see it😀
Love that you said "this is going to take a while" I like sewing and am tired of every project video stating how "quick and easy" they are. I like making something that is complex and using my skills. Put on some music possibly a podcast and spend the day sewing.
I do love a good complicated project that keeps me enthused😁
I love, love this very useful bag! Great design! You asked if we think it needs two sets of handles. I personally think it does need two sets, but the interior handles might be of better use is shorter. Again, great job! You do such good work and I love your innovative spirit!
Thanks so much Peggy😀
Sewing machine, laptop, wine bottle holder. Woman after my own heart.
Love that!
Never thought I would say this but a zip panel on the top for added security would be handy.
Absolutely love that it's big enough for a sewing machine and wine! 😀❤️💐
I'll do one soon Sue. I promise! 😁
Love the big size. Handy that it will fit over the handle as I have trouble with my shoulder and can’t carry all that weight. As usual another great video. Keep ‘em coming.
Thanks Pat 😃
When I make bags with double handles, I make the inner handles short for carrying by hand and the outer handles long for over the shoulder. I'm excited to make this - I have been saving some fabric I bought that I've make a bit of luggage from, so this is going to be the next piece in my set! Instead of magnets, I'll be adding an extra flap from the top towards the inside with a zipper along the center - won't be a complete closure, but a bit more closed which I prefer. I was going to wait until I made it to comment, but I had to write now: I absolutely lost it when you said you accidentally filmed the roof - you said it in line with all your instructions as if I was supposed to do that part next and I had to stop the video and rewind! I know that wasn't your intention, but I really needed a laugh and that got me good and I thank you for it:) Great seam ripper tip for not cutting too far for magnet insertion!
Haha, I'm glad you got a laugh out of that Vikki. I do so many stupid things sometimes, that I just have to share them.
When creating this bag, I almost made the inner handles shorter, but the following day, I ended up stitching them together as there was just too much to handle 😁
One thing that I love about you is that you don’t waist any pice of fabric and you are showing me how to join together fabrics where is need it .
Thanks Amalia.😃
Love everything about this bag, the color, size, and style. I love the way the front pocket looks with the seam down the center. I think it would be nice to make the water bottle strap from elastic. That way it would hold different size bottles securely.
The elastic is a great idea Charlotte. I opted for the sleeve so that a wine bottle would sit there securely, but for drink bottles, elastic would be great😃
Fantastic video and bag. I will definitely make one of these out of my recycled materials donated by friends. I really enjoy your videos as they are easy and straight forward. Thank you for sharing.
Than you Sue 😃
As always another clear descriptive great project. Love the fact that you have pieces fabric together when you’ve not had enough yardage. The straps look like upholstery webbing, if so great idea
Thank you
Thanks Sally-Anne. I think it is upholstery webbing. It's very coarse and durable. A friend was throwing it out, so of course I nabbed it😁
Absolutely gorgeous, I’m going to make this thank you you’re a very good teacher😊
Thank you Jenni. Happy sewing! 😃
I finished this bag last night. It did take some time. I travel to multiple schools and wanted a way I could bring everything with me. I have a small cart with a trolley handle and putting this bag on top will allow me to move from building to building efficiently. I used faux leather and duck cloth. I recycled some dog food bags as lining to provide structure and some water-proofing in case of weather. I washed them first of course! lol. I learned so much from this project. I am thinking about making another one for toiletries to take when I go to work conferences. I really like how it looks with the top stitching and the bands along the top. It gives the bag a very nice finish. Thank you for sharing this tutorial.
Thanks so much for sharing how you made your Joan. It sounds fabulous😁
You are amazing!!! You explain things so well!! Great bag!!!❤❤
Thank you so much Cindi 😃
Love this bag. I'm going to have to try this. As always great job
Thanks Gwen 😁
I’m loving all the pocket options, even the extras you showed could be done with the luggage strap on the outside. Very professional looking with that awesome upholstery fabric! Thanks for another well-done project to try! 😊❤
You're very welcome Susan 😃
Your instructions are exceptionally detailing.
Thank you Sisters😀
Lovely bag, I like a tipper top on my bags, so I would aff one
I've Googled it, but have no idea what a tipper top is😁
Awesome video-I’ve watched many on bag/ tote making and yours it by far the most understandable and easiest to follow-thx very much!
Awesome! Thank you Karen 😃
I’m just finishing my third bag. I added a zipper to the top rather than the magnetic snaps. My partner made a light wood base for it to help support the weight of what I carry.
Well done Sharon, and the addition of a ipper is a great idea😊
What a brilliant useful bag, thank you so much for sharing your pattern, brilliant travel bag or baby bag.
Thanks Eve 😁
What a great bag! I love the versatility and variation possibilities of this bag. Thank you for this and all of your in-depth and concise tutorials, Christine!! As for any changes, I would have padded the laptop sleeve with batting. Also, I would be impatient when trying to locate all four handles each time I needed to pick the bag up The inner handles, if not in use, may get on the way of me trying to access items in the bag. So, I would construct the bag with them - but later, I would stitch the inner and outer handles together on each side, doubling their thickness to create stiffer handles that may be easier for me to use.
I'm impatient as well, and ended up sewing the handles together the following day. Great idea for the batting. I didn't even consider it, but then, there was so much else happeing with this bag 😃
I’ve got so much catching up to do with all of these videos since I’ve started watching! Fabulous job on this bag. I made a much smaller one for myself for travel, but this one…😁👏❗️
Thanks Elayne. Happy binge watching!😁
Great travel bag. It looked a bit difficult at the beginning but as expected you explained it so very well and it was easy to understand. That bag should fit all the fabric I bought today..(it was on special)
Lol thanks so much Christine for all the time you put into preparing the tutorials you make..
Thanks Janet. There are certainly a lot of components to this one. 😁
It is an excellent bag! I would sew the handles together so I have 2 very sturdy handles! I think the double handle is very important as I could see myself putting a ton of stuff in it when travelling!
Thanks Karen. I did actually sew the handles together today 😁
Fantastic bag, crystal clear instructions as always thank you.
Thank you Paula 😃
Yes this will take a while, but you explain it so well that I am excited to try it!
Hope you like it Sharon. 😃
Fantastic project and great instructions as always! My only wish is that you could show the finished item at the beginning of the video and use it to point out the different parts for those of us who are beginners :)
If I did that Jennifer, you might not make it to the end🤣
Love your projects Christine, thank you for sharing your expertise 😘
You're very welcome Helen 😁
I'm behind on watching your videos, but I'm still here. This one is definitely my adult granddaughters birthday present next month. Now to look through my upholstery fabric for the right piece. She is gonna LOVE it. Thank you so much.
That's awesome Cynthia. Your granddaughter will just love it! 😃
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs I finished the welt pocket. It's all done and I sewed it on the short side of the lining instead of on the long side. Now I have to find another two pieces of fabric and start all over. LOL This one will have to go in another smaller bag
Haha. That's the universe telling you to make more bags😁
I love the bag and you explained it so well that I will have to make one :-)). I would sew the trolley handle for the 2 extra outside pockets. Also, I will make the inner straps smaller for when I just want to pick the bag up and carry. Thanks again. Glad you're better.
Thanks Debbie. Happy sewing!😀
Hi ,That’s a prefect bag for my trip , thank you for sharing your talents
That's great Amalia 😃
I’d shorten the second set of handles so I could have long set for shoulder or short set for hand. Would also include a key or ditty bag leash
That's a great idea for the keys. I ended up stitching the handles together 😃
Just going through some of your older tutorials , I love this travel bag I will definitely be making this 😊
Happy sewing Erica😀
Nice! I want to sew one for my son’s birthday and one for my sister for her birthday as well. No pressure on myself as need son’s done by this weekend and sister’s by Monday as on Tuesday having carpal tunnel release surgery! Really like this bag as both son and sister like to travel via plane. I can see one for my brother in law and son’s partner as well. I should do one for my niece as pretty soon will fly with a 2 year old and a newborn. I love making bags. Thank you for the excellent video!!
Thanks Elly. I hope your surgery goes well. I had both mine done 6mths ago. Best thing ever!😀
Yes to the double handles. However, I’d stitch the two together, thus creating two extremely strong handles. Put more depth into the laptop sleeve, and use an iron-on foam padding, front and back. The sleeve will become a little ridged, but will give you a bit of protection should the bag fall. Great job! ❤ Edited to add: Seam ripper hack: Place a pin perpendicular to your marked cut line where you must stop cutting. The ripper will stop against the pin and go no further.
They're great ideas Sharon, and thanks for the tip. I do this with my seam ripper when doing button holes, and cutting holes for my metal tags😁
Great idea and I would certainly like to try my hand at making one I'd be afraid of destroying my Singer. Maybe if I ever get a commercial machine
You can do these on domestic machines, but I'd use a hump jumper or turn wheel by hand at the bulky seams😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs thank you for the response. Your videos are very informative and so easy to follow.
love this one. very useful. I can use this when going to quilting retreats. many thanks.
Oh, you'll need two for retreats Sandy 😁
Very nice Christine. I will be making this for my daughter for her swimming gear. The first bag I made her isn't large enough for a towel, this one will be 😀
This'll definitely be big enough Jane 😁
Love it! I love the straps!
Glad you like them! Thank you😀
A very good and detailed video. Thank you. Kindly let me know how to attach a zipper to the top of the bag instead of the magnetic snaps
Thanks Lina. You can use the same technique used for pouches to put zips in the top. Also look for my recessed zipper tutorial😁
Thank you for responding, Christine. What would be the finished size of this bag?
I love this bag & the fabrics you chose. I also love the adult beverage compartment - ha!. Since I am relatively new to sewing can you please give me an approximate total yardage for shell, linig & strapping? Appreciate it.
It's been quite some time since making this. There is a materials list in the video though😀
❤ just the bag I was looking for! Thank you!
You are so welcome Sharon 😀
I’m making a second one with a zipper closure now.
@sharonvonsee3164 That's awesome Sharon. The zipper is a great idea 😄
Wow, what a great bag ! Thank you for the tutorial! Would it be at all possible to add a panel to the top with a zip down the middle ? When I travel I only use bags I can zip up for safety purposes. Thanks for posting this video ! I follow you and love all your content 😊
Yes RBG you can definitely do that. 😁
Thank you. God bless you always
Thank you Belen 😃
hello very beautiful videos very nice sewing skills please kindly film how to thread and operate your industrial sewing machine please ok?thank you very much 😊
Thanks Frank. I'll try to do some soon😁
Love this!
Think this is brilliant. Thank you xx
Thanks Roseanne😀
Love all your videos Chris, do you have a tutorial on your sewing clip pouch, would love to make some, thanks...❤Jessie from Canada
Thanks Jessie. Do you mean the hexagon container for the clips? Here it is😁ua-cam.com/video/0eDtkx6IEvY/v-deo.htmlsi=lpQmZFXaJ1zKP0A6
Very good tutorial, you make it look so easy. Agree with the other comments about the four handles and you agreed as you have seen the handles together. Don't think I'd leave them out due to the weight this bag will carry. I liked that you showed it with the sewing machine inside. What would you do to make that for a sewing machine? I would want wheels... Is that possible? You would need somehow to reinforce the bottom. But wonderful bag, great job Christina as usual. I always look for and forward to you postings.
Thanks karen. I ended up stitching the handles together the following day. They were just all over the place. As for the trolley, you can purchase a flat trolley without a bag, then just use this design and it will sit flat on the trolley base with your mahine in it. 😃
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs ok, I didn't know that about the trolley. I'll have to look into it. I know buying a bag for a machine ready made are quite expensive. Thank you.
Je l'adore! Je vais en faire toutes sortes! si on ajoute un zip dans le bas nous pourrions avoir un espace extensible!😉
That's a great idea Manon 😃
Christine, thank you for this awesome video. I was looking for a large bag and could not seem to find one quite as nice as yours. Just a question, do you have written patterns a person could buy? Thanks again... love your bag and that repurposed fabric works wonderfully.
I used to write a lot of quilt and table runner patterns, but no longer have time to write them. 😁
❤❤❤❤
Thank you😀
Genius!
Thank you 😁
Amazing and beautiful what material do you use?
Alixanderia, I used upholstery fabric for this one😀
Just came across this video. Do you have a similar bag with a zipper top? Would love to see it. Thanks!
Hi Hazel. I have a recessed zipper bag, but not one that is the same style as this one😀
I think I would make the bag without the inner handles and add fusible webbing to the body of the bag to make it sturdier.
Thanks Jean. Good ideas😃
Hello mrs, Christine I have a question.Did you add interfacing to your fabrics?
Hi Amalia. No, I didn't add interfacing as I was using upholstery fabric in this bag. It was stable enough without it. I'd interface/stabilize if it were cotton though 😃
Amazing👍🌺🌿🌹☘🌷🌾🌻
Thank you very much!😃
can you do a video on joining fabric pieces?
Which kind of fabric pieces? I did one a few weeks back with the scrap fabric bag. If you send me an email with your idea, I can add it to my list😀
Your pieces you used was not the right size. You sewed pieces together.@@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@FaileasCreations did you mean I joined fabric to make one the right size?
All I did was sew the pieces together, then trim it back to give me the size required ☺️
Could a recessed zipper be included?
It sure could Amelia😀
Pump water, not met any British school kids then ... Or British men ... And some women it seems. 😂
🪡🪡🪡🙂🙂🙂❤❤❤
Thanks Joy 😁
