This lady has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. Really, it's so relaxing :) I've just started to learn to sew and I'm very happy to find this channel. She makes these projects so easy to make.
Hi Debbie This is Pamie from New York. Who is now Pamie from Oklahoma . I'm so glad to see you are still making Bags and Purses. Just Thought I would say Hi. Your tutorial Have helped me to retire and have something fun to do and keep this old lady from getting bored. Have a great day. Cheers
Sewing seemed a terrifying prospect 2 years ago. Your videos and books have given me the confidence to try different projects. I have gained so much confidence that i have now sewn a dress as well. I cant thank you enough Debbie. For anyone who is new to sewing or like me have not done any sewing for many years, just use these videos and books and the sense of achievement gives so much confidence to continue. Thank you so much Debbie and Happy Birthday!
Ive watched your videos for a couple of years now, Your step by step instructions and calm manner of speaking make it easy for beginners and experienced sewers to have a completed project in jig time. Your a lovely soul you are.
I have learned to keep a record of needle changes and rotary cutter blades and sewing machine cleaning. And we should all do so much more often than we do. It makes life so much easier. I have the same little iron as you do and I truly love it. I love your tutorials.
I just want to say I Love you tutorials. You always get right to it and there is not a lot of needless talking...plus I love listening to your voice. I've made many of your projects and they have always turned out amazing. Thank you for doing such a great job. Keep the projects coming.
Thank you Debbie, for your tutorials. As others have said, you have a very calming and lovely voice. Also you make everything easy to understand and not rushed at all. Be very proud of your contribution to us sewists. I would love to see more projects. I am most grateful. X
Omgosh Debbie just found you on you tube and can’t get enough of you your craft your cats and dog . Love the way you explain things ! I’m hooked , thank you
Your videos make things look so easy..so I'm encouraged to start and know it will come out great! Thank you for being so detailed and calm throughout all of your projects..
Yay! Fantastic bag! You made something that seems so complicated so simple to do! Thank you VERY MUCH! I’ve wanted to learn how to do this for years and the secret is the binding on the top. Well done!
Many things are simplier(? Is that a word?) then we think if we dont overthink them. And the first one is the hardest then it gets easier the more you make I have made many totebags so now it kinda goes without thinking.
Really struggled with the binding around the top of the bag and the way the handles sit but super pleased that I have created a bag with a zipper pocket for the first time. Thank you
You are just the best teacher! I think you pay most attention of those I have found for finishing which I appreciate..thank you for these videos. I look forward to following them for Christmas presents.
I love the bag!!! I’m not usually into bags but I can’t wait to make that one. You make everything look so simple and give great directions. Thank you.
Hi Debbie, I just finished making this bag and I have a couple of questions regarding the measurements/materials. I messaged you via your FB page but haven't heard back, so I decided to ask about the measurements to a sewing group I belong to on FB. There was a fair amount of confusion, but one sewer suggested I ignore the 'Materials' list and just put the bag together using the 'Cut' measurements, so that's what I did and I am happy to say it worked. For anyone else who will be making this, perhaps you can clarify what the 'Materials' list means, particularly why would anyone need to cut a 19"x16" piece for the outer top fabric, or a 19"x10" for the outer bottom, and lastly, the 28"x46" for the lining? Also, in the 'Materials' list, it appears you forgot to account for the handles. I was determined to learn how to add a dividing pocket and I've accomplished that so thank you. One more thing...what is the final measurement of this bag?
Happy Birthday!🎉Thank you for all your generosity with your tips, time and patience! Showing us the whole process of your lovely projects step by step is so encouraging and helpful. I am a reasonable sewer but I learn so much from you every time I watch - your tips are so clever! 😘
Just a suggestion...I use shirting interfacing for my for my handles and pockets. You get a crisp but flexible handle and it doesn't wear thin with time.
Another simple, but lovely bag, it really is a treat to watch you doing your craft and it also gives us that bit more confidence to give it a try, even if ours don't come out quite as good as yours, so thank you once again Debbie....
I’m so glad that this popped up in my recommended videos! I love this tote! picked up some extra t-shirts from my extended camping trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons this summer. I’m going to use the t-shirts for the top fabric and use cork or either blue or black denim for the bottom of each.I will use the dividing pocket tip for other bags as well! Thank you, Debbie! Your tutorials are always fabulous! Stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
Hi Debbie, this is a very cute bag. However, I’m going to make another one, its your big bag. I’ve lost count how many of them I have made. I love them, so do my customers. I hope you and your family has done well through our strange country ordeal. We have stayed busy in the yard. Fixing to cut down about a dozen trees. Oh we have a lot of them in our back yard. I don’t want anyone to think bad of getting rid of them. Most of them are so close to the house. We’re afraid a big limb will take out half of the house. Anyway you can tell I haven’t been doing a lot of sewing lately. But going to Las Vegas NV in Oct. so I will get my bags all made before then. Debbie I will save this bag for a later date. But definitely will make it. Thanks so much and have a wonderful day. Cheryl
I really love all of your videos. You explain everything so it is easy for us to understand. I have made a few bags/ pocketbooks by watching lots of your videos and combining the ideas. Thank you so much!
Thanks Debbie what a beautiful tote bag. The fabrics you use are all very beautiful! I will make this some day. Currently just busy making fabric face masks for family & friends. I wish you had a video for us to sew along fabric face masks too. I know there are tons of people who made a video but your teaching style and instructions are very east to follow & detailed. Please do consider my request.
This would be a good bag for me to tote my English Paper Piecing gear around in. With the pocket dividing the inside I could put my round rotary cutting mat and rulers and templates on one side, spare template papers in the zip section and the other side could hold my pencil case type bag with needles, thimble, thread etc. I like the idea that my cutting mat and rulers won't be flopping around in the bag so much. Thank you, I really enjoyed the tutorial. Love your videos.
Little late in seeing this. I love your videos, so matter of fact and straightforward...which makes it easier to understand. I will be using your directions to make a bag for my daughter for Christmas. Thank you so much!
Well explained and easy to follow , I can’t wait for the interfacing to turn up so I can have a go at this bag, your choice of colours were lovely too, thanks so much
Your tutorial are always so clear and make things look easy. I learned a lot from you. Thank you for another great video!!! Will you do some tutorials for Needlework organisers with lots of zipped pockets and flapped compartments that look like a book? Thank you
Lovely little bag. I saw some one using paper at the beginning of their sewing. They put it under the end of the material, so it covered the feed dogs and sewed, no snagging. At the end of sewing they just ripped of the paper. It’s a great and cheap way of avoiding snags. It worked better than scraps of material for leaders.
Look great. For those who do not want to do bias trim, you could do a slip pocket on the inside, leaving a large opening on bottom of the pocket. Then you could sew the bag around the top, inside out, then turn it through the opening in the pocket. /After turning, you can sew the pocket bottom which will not show, and do some topstitching on the top of the bag on the outside.
Hi Debbie I sure do love watching your channel. I am learning a lot from you so, thank you so much. Me and my husband are in the process of setting up a building to make me a sewing room, we are almost ready to start painting the inside and decorating it the way I want it. I would love to see a tour of your sewing room so I can get some ideas for mine. Thank you so much for sharing this video, I love this bag.
This tutorial is just what I have been looking for. I'm going to make this just as you have done the tutorial. I'm wondering if you would be able to put the lining in right sides together with this pocket. In my mind I can't figure out for sure if it would work. Any suggestions or comments please.
Love this and the fabrics you have used, so crisp and well co-ordinated. I think the second bag with the self bias finish is better than the first. I really enjoy your videos, very clear and straightforward. I am now subscribing.
Great project, so pleased to have found your channel, apart from all your other accomplishments I remember you on Ideal World demonstrating sewing machines amongst other things. You have a great matter of fact way of putting your subject across it makes it all easy to understand and achieve. Thank you.
Loved this Tote with middle pocket, it’s great and you have explained it throughly easy! I’ll try it this weekend! Thanks Debbie, I am Mónica from, La Paz, Bolivia 🇧🇴 📌🧵📍
Can't beat navy and white for a classic and classy summer look! I'm glad you got caught up with the needle chomping the edge of the fabric! I thought it was just me! Drives me insane! I'm always doing that! Sometimes so bad it gnarls up inside the bobbin area and forms a giant lump I have to cut out! But...maybe, perhaps, well ok probably, it may be that my needle is blunt and forcing the fabric downwards rather than poking through it easily! 🙄 Can I remember the last time I changed my needle...? Wait! What? We're supposed to change them? I tend to only do it if the needle breaks! I know, I know... But I don't sell things I make, they're only for me or family, and they always look ok... I wouldn't give them away if they didn't! I'm a contrary Mary really, because I'm my own biggest critic, I see only my mistakes glaring at me instead of what I've made, I'm never 100% satisfied with anything I make, I'm meticulous about neatness and symmetry etc etc... Yet I use so many shortcuts that are potentially project ruining! Talk about setting yourself up to fail! I'd love you to demonstrate free motion using a standard sewing machine! I've watched a few but I tend to always refer back to you! 😊 I'm not particular about learning to do perfect quilting stitching or elaborate patterns, just some random freestyle wiggles for journal covers etc. If you've already done a tutorial on that, could you please link it for me? I have looked but didn't see one...? Thank you Debbie! You really are the best sewing teacher on here! You always make beautiful things that look complicated, yet break it down into easy, pretty much "beginner" steps! 😘😘😘
Re needle chomping edge of fabric: I recently discovered the beauty of leaders and footers - always begin and end your seam with a spare square of fabric - you chain stitch so that you never get that chomping and you waste much less thread! If is my new favourite sewing hack.
I was wondering if you could use double needle to sew top stitch? Using an embroidery/rayon thread to add contrast like seams on jeans? Really loving your videos! I’ve got 25m of mixed saree fabric coming from India. I’m so excited to use it for your projects. I want to raise money for the Little Princess foundation, they provide wigs for young people suffering hair loss from cancer and other illnesses. I’d like to gift them little bags with some handmade hair accessories. It will look so beautiful quilted and made into your bag designs. My brother scan and cut is amazing at cutting out my pieces that have been ironed onto stabiliser. I’m only now working on structured items, from dressmaking. It’s not as easy as you make it look!
If you would have turned the bag inside out and sewn the binding on the right side of the bag from the inside, you would not have had all that trouble.Have done this for years and it works perfectly. Saves a lot of time too.. :)
I’m new to sewing, and I love this tutorial. I just wish she would discuss the measurements of each section when talking about the bag. The bag looks great.
Would you please explain how much shorter the width of the pocket is versus the outside of the bag. I too, am new to Sewing and this would be my first time making a bag with a center zipper. Thank you for your reply. Laura in Sun City Arizona
Debbie does give the measurements for each piece, including the pockets at the beginning of the video. The time stamp is 0:53 where she quickly shows the measurements. She wrote cut 4 pieces 10”x8” for the pocket and pocket lining.
Learnt a lot here, got confused with Seam allowances and the pocket - shortened the wrong side so then shortened the other too. But pleased with my make. I did cream canvas too and cut up some old black denim jeans for the base. Quilted it with variegated thread - should have done pre trimming etc but got away with it, thanks Debbie xx
I have been watching your videos an subscribe 2 your channel,i really love them it has helped me in many ways as a new beginner, were as i started 2 make bags on my own,i also took a class..You are a wonderful teacher..Thank u..May God continue 2 bless u..Trinidad An Tobago
Hi there, just found this fabulous video, and have already made a bag which I love ! Can you please advise - if you want to resize this, am I right in thinking that the centre divider pocket should be cut the wide of the bag piece minus the two corner cutouts? eg your bag piece is cut at 36 wide, and the divide rpocket is cut 10cm less (ie the sum of the two corner cutouts). sounds clear as mud, lol, hope you can understand
Lovely bag. I learned so much from you. Thank you for the great and easy explanations and step by step professional finish. Love everything you do. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😊 I keep making bags and bags and bags. Love your little iron 👍
Hi Deb Thank you for your beautiful sewing.I have every book of yours&ready to buy your latest one. Thank you for your lovely youtubes. Regards Caroline(Australia)
Hi Debbie. I know this is a older video but do you have a tutorial on the bag just behind you on the shelve with a doll leaning up against it? The tall black & white bag with black handles. Love that look. Thank you.
Thank you Debbie for yet another great tutorial. One question: how do I determine the length (left to right) of the pocket pieces to account for the squaring of the bag. Will that measurement equal that of the outer bag pieces minus the total of the depth on each side, ex. for a 2" bag depth would I deduct 4"? Or just depth from one side, 2"?? I am confused. (math & geometry are not my forte 🤔)
Yes, it's the voice, but it's also the tone and delightful attitude toward her viewers that's a winner. So many could learn from her 😊👍💕

A lovely bag Debbie thank you. Would you be able to make a tutorial on making facemacks please and Thank you x
I have been watching your videos an subscribe 2 your channel,i really love them it has helped me in many ways as a new beginner, were as i started 2 make bags on my own,i also took a class..You are a wonderful teacher..Thank u..May God continue 2 bless u..Trinidad An Tobago
Hi Debbie, just discovered your channel and love the way you explain things simply and slowly.
Looking forward to making this tote bag.
Thank you for your tutorial Debbie I must make more bags! I learn a great deal from you
Hi there, just found this fabulous video, and have already made a bag which I love !
I prefer make binding myself - its calming and look so much better when all is in matching colours or shades or design .
Great great tutorial as usual mam.
Thanks for sharing
Looking forward for such great bags
Thank u.
Love this bag, BUT where can I find your video of the beautiful butterfly bag behind your left shoulder? 😊

Love it! Looks stunning and eye catching. Thank you for sharing
Debbie I love your work 🥰
Hi Debbie. I know this is a older video but do you have a tutorial on the bag just behind you on the shelve with a doll leaning up against it? The tall black & white bag with black handles. Love that look. Thank you.
I made 3 rag quilts (very thick). Needle broke. Good tip.
I sincerely enjoyed this tutorial. The only thing i wish you would show a close up shot of how you join the ends on the bias binding. Please.
Love this bag and you make it look so easy. Thank you,
Thank you Debbie for yet another great tutorial.
