You feel like emperor palpatine juiced up on pure uncut Colombian dark side; playing at a table with 3 other emperor palpatines. You don’t feel bad playing degenerate combos because everyone is. It’s great, it’s the only way I play magic now that legacy is pretty much dead.
This shows how deep black is when you aren't even ranking Broodlord, Saw in Half, Reanimate effects, Doomsday, Rain of Filth, Grim Hireling, Sheoldred, Razaketh and Vilis.
Im new to the cedh scene and the explanation of the cards and lines you can use them in are really helpful in learning the format and how to pilot my first cedh deck. Thanks a ton!
Cam: There will be no edits going forward on this podcast. Also Cam: Let me remove this comfy looking cardigan on camera as to avoid continuity errors.
45:50 NO RESERVED LIST!! Please WOTC! As a player that has all the old power i can ever legally play with i want no reserve list because it let's new players enter the game.
This series has been such a huge help for me! I’m just getting into the format and this has been a great way to focus my collection on what I need to play! 👏🏽
My ONLY issue with tainted pact and demonic consultation is that without thoracle existing, those two are ALMOST only cards for food chain decks. Now. We live in a thoracle world so the argument is not there but without thoracle those 2 cards suddenly I feel are more like 4.1 territory.
I actually had this exact situation not long ago! Though I played deflecting swat to target me with the opponents peer :) well... It resolved and opponent played an orcish Bowmasters 😅
Necropotence gets cut way more often than it should be, IMO. Honestly, while it's definitely harder to cast (though dark ritual casts it by itself!), I like to think of the card like it's rhystic study a lot of the time - it's going to draw me a bunch of cards every turn cycle, and opponents can't even refuse to feed it. You definitely feel the life cost, and it makes you more of a threat, but "the card is so good people will be scared of you" is not the worst downside to have.
Format is too fast and interactive for Necro. If you go T1 Dark Rit into Necro, you are most likely going to lose, since every creature will attack you, and its unlikely you can jam a win with 7 in the grip vs 21 cards of your opponents.
@@B1gLupu If you turn 1 Necro in any Dimir+ deck and tutor Born Upon a Wind it's gonna be pretty hard to stop a Thoracle + Consultation backed up with 30 cards in hand
I have a Tivit deck that ive been slowly accumulating cards for for about a year. I havent played a single game of cedh and yet this is by far my favorite content.
Absolutely love this channel. Have never played a Cedh game. But have played some casual. Worked at a card shop and happen to come along this channel. Always buying the suggested cards(at a discount of course). Didnt realize id turn out to have such a sweet set of cards. Cheers boys🍻
I love how this hour-long video went by so incredibly quickly! Good banter and energy and chemistry that makes all the difference. In terms of the list, think I’d rate Dauthi a little lower, like around 4.75? Though the graveyard-hate and utility are great, I find myself cutting it more often than not in my 3+ color decks, even those with Tymna. Double black and needing to wait a turn to activate pushes it below 5 (and Top 10) imo. Necropotence probably deserves a higher rating and people should start experimenting with it more.
I wouldn't say Yawgmoth's Will is recursion, I'd say it's more spell storm. I mean, yes, you can value Yawg Will, but the big benefit is copying your hand. I.e. A hand with Dark Ritual and Demonic tutor, becomes a hand with two copies of each. I think the problem with it in Commander is that it doesn't work as well with value pieces and really just wants ritual-tutor chains.
Generally it's much worse than the competition that does similar things. Its worse than Breach and it's worse than Memnonic Betrayal. Honestly they were too generous with it. Its a 2, since most of the time you wont have the time to try to win again and 3 manas is a lot of manas.
Yawgmoth's will is better than Underworld breach cause your not pitching cards, you dont even need a big graveyard, Theres a reason Krrik wins turn 1 a lot
One thing I love about Tainted Pact is that you can stop. A play that happened while I was piloting Atraxa was to leave 3 cards on top of my library for the Thassa with 5 devotion but still have 3 cards to draw to my Esper Sentinel
force of despair, imps mischief, withering boon are REALLY underplayed cards that i loveeee and play it very frequently and i just dont understand why people dont use it. i always catch people off guard with it.
I don’t play cedh but one of my favorite things to do with opp agent in my lands deck is to field of ruin or demo field someone and then take all of their lands.
It's a little distracting that they are in the same room but one person has a bright rope light and the other doesn't. It's a very nit picky thing though. Love your content guys!!
Great podcast. I think you should have talked about Ad Naus first, bc it warps the ratings of every other card, like Deadly Rollick. Also, a note on Dark Ritual, the best black spells are always heavy on pips, which makes DR clutch.
After that banger of doing the 2-color pair rankings and this series, can't wait to see the 3-Color Rankings in cEDH. Admittedly, I'm also probably going to be sadge when y'all rank Naya as the worst lol
Its very interesting to me what both are your guys thoughts are on the reserve list. Wow.. Did not expect that. Great vid as always. Just some confusion 🤔
Holy shit, I just laughed so hard at Dylan saying he blacks out for the whole podcast episode and at the end he's like "Is that good?"😂😂😂 Can totally relate.
I was looking for this video but couldn't find it because I was looking for titles starting with the word ranking. Maybe make a playlist? I'm pretty new and I'm looking for ideas for my dimir deck.
I also like Opp agent giving you the option to scheming symmetry 2 opponents for both pieces of thoracle-consultation, then again getting opp agent as you cast scheming symmetry yourself is such a big blowout that maybe the card existing makes symmetry unplayable.
I think a LOT of people are sleeping on Beseech. The card is quite strong. In any sort of layered combo deck it picks up your missing piece to go off then and there. If you make treasures or clues you ought to give it a shot.
I'm interested in what you guys think about Force of Despair? I haven't seen it around a lot, but it is free and can do quite a bit. I suppose the biggest problem with it in multicolor decks is that you have to exile a black card, which might be difficult to achieve.
This rating system is wild. 5 to me is "If you're playing black this card is ALWAYS in your deck regardless of your commander / play style" I LOVE THE TICKER THOUGH!!!
but you Need...to play Yawgmoth's Will if you are playing Grixis and have no White, this is one of the Only way to replay Your Underworld Breach if it gets countered or if any of those pieces of the Brain Freeze combo gets countered or milled.
Hard disagree on not using consult to tutor. In turbo decks I regularly use it to find mana crypt or a silence. Depending on the deck, I think going for it in the first few turns is going to lead to more wins than waiting for your opponents to set up. And the turn 1 consult will really put some hair on your chest.
I've been on the fence about you guys I've only watched two videos, until you said abolish the f****** reserve list, I am totally on board. I think a nice middle ground would be a rotating reserve list that changed every couple of years but, like maybe just 10 cards every 5 years. I'd rather just abolish the reserve list. Oh no the card you speculated on went down from a thousand to $800 because it's got a newer reprint. Now non-rich people can play dual lands
Black is my favourite colour too. 9 out of my 12 decks have black in them 🤣. I’d argue my Titania Protector of Argoth is an honorary Golgari mono green deck hahaha
I’m curious to know how you guys feel about current magic sets overall. I feel like wotc is restricting cards too much but printing more text. Cards say and do so much useless stuff. I can’t stand reading the dreaded “only once per turn” text
You guys make me laugh. "5's are for cards that go in every black deck." Proceed to put cards in that are excluded from some black decks 😂 love your content
I was definitely in a position in a game where I had to cast Consultation to save my ass and ended up exiling down to 4 cards left in my deck. I lost that game. 😂 still a fun game though!
Black is not as strong as blue, but it's the best color to have as part of your identity. Having access to black tutors so strong. I'd rather play sans blue B/x/x than sans black U/x/x
Is it weird that ive never played cedh yet this is one of my favourite youtube channels?
You should give it a shot!
You feel like emperor palpatine juiced up on pure uncut Colombian dark side; playing at a table with 3 other emperor palpatines. You don’t feel bad playing degenerate combos because everyone is. It’s great, it’s the only way I play magic now that legacy is pretty much dead.
This should tell you that you should play cedh.
I'm in the same boat.
I havent played cEDH properly in years, but I still end up watching all of these :)
Big fan of the rolling scoreboard on the bottom of the screen. Its a good reminder of what score the previous cards have gotten
This shows how deep black is when you aren't even ranking Broodlord, Saw in Half, Reanimate effects, Doomsday, Rain of Filth, Grim Hireling, Sheoldred, Razaketh and Vilis.
Perfect timing! just finished classes for the day now I can relax and listen to the guys talk about my favorite magic color
Me on the flip side podcasting this throughout my day of school because it came out at 08:00
@@eygohsSame! Best way to wake up
the formatting of the video with the cards on a conveyor belt is amazin, keep it up, also great vid :)
Dylan timewalking through podcasts
Yeah, when you think about it, Dylan is basically a Time Walk.

That Black Dahlia Murder shirt makes me like you guys even more. Nocturnal by them is still one of my favorite albums of all time. Great episode guys

Dylan: "You can't lose if you resolve it".
Bowmasters: hold my beer
Absolutely wild that we're in a world where there aren't any reanimation spells on this list about black cards

Love Dylan‘s Shirt:)
That Play To Win flag makes it look like Cam has horns, on theme for the best black cards🤘
By the end of this series I have to just make a 5 colour deck purely out of the 5s of each colour
You also forgot that PITA is seeing less play because of Orcish Bowmasters
What’s the best site to get the duals lands and other old cards printed? They look terrible from my printer
Lots of good proxy makers on Etsy.

As a krrik player, i just wanna give Peer so much more love 🤣
As a rog si player .. I don’t play dauthi or oppo. But I do play bowmasters. I love the cards. But they react. And I want to be proactive.

I think consul is only good as a tutor in food chain decks where the commander is solo wincon like ukkima
Ad Naus comes online quicker, but I don't think it has a good window because it's suuuuuper telegraphed to pass with 5 mana.
