It's not a prank. It's bullying and intimidation.
Does unarmed bullying and intimidation justify lethal force? The shooter must not have been paying attention in class to get his concealed carry permit. Self defense doesn't always involve shooting someone. The guy should not be allowed to carry a firearm at all. The jurors must have consisted of enitled millennials? Geez!
Agreed.
And justice was served. at least he said “Gods intentions” meaning he recognized how his behaviour was punishable even to this degree.
Its also just straight up disrespect.
Harassment,,,,,, Definity not legal. He's a punk ...... should not have come to getting shot... but im ok with the other guy walking.
The adage "fuck around and find out" comes to mind.
Using the Phrase, "I was only kidding" has been used by every bully and A-hole for as long as anyone can remember.
@harrysatchel They just traded pranks. Cook did a prank. Colie returned the favor.

Still don’t understand how this is considered a ‘prank’. It’s harassment. The end.
It's an assault
@@THE-id1by - it's really not in the same league as a physical attack. Resorting to deadly force in response to it should have bore some consequences even if not a substantial prison sentence.
Things are so crazy these days I would be scared to death if I told someone to leave me alone but they kept coming.
@@simonw1313 No, you misunderstand, an *assault* is a legal term, the definition of which is:
Assault refers to the wrongful act of causing someone to reasonably fear imminent harm. This means that the fear must be something a reasonable person would foresee as threatening to them.
Assault doesn't require a physical attack at all, that's *battery* which is the act of causing unlawful physical harm.
Someone being threatening and getting up in your face alongside 2 other goons totally counts as assault per the legal definition.

To call Tanner an ‘influencer’ is a crime in itself.
Yeah, it's a crime that any of these clowns on UA-cam are influencing anything.
Wait did Dr. Grande say that? That’s a good one 😂
Influencer in 2023 might aswell be synonymous with "clown"
My first thought.
no it isn't a crime.....he is influencing people to become bullies. So the term is correct and bulling is illegal.
Tanner’s dad and people like him are why bullying in schools doesn’t stop. The parents support their kid acting that way, saying it’s a joke.
Father is a douche just like his son. Apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
I was shocked to find out he even had a father but once I heard the father spoke I said hm that makes sense why he turned out that way...
Bullying in schools doesn't stop because teachers and administrators are: lazy; bad people; or both. Typically, teachers and administrators will punish the bullied kids...because they are easy to blame. They can blame one kid and ignore the 10, 20, 50 kids doing the bullying. Plus, the bullied kid usually comes from a less powerful family.
@@the_gilded_age_phoenix8717 I grew up with hot metal slides and no seat belts. We never needed "administrators" to help us deal with bullies.

These aren't pranks, they are harassment and very threatening. Especially if you've been the victim of a violent crime in the past.
Yes! I was thinking that the victim (a much smaller guy) may have been attacked, abused or bullied in the past. If so, that would be an absolutely terrifying encounter for him. 😔
Since he was a delivery driver it is possible that he had been robbed or jacked before. It’s a very common problem for delivery drivers. It’s also not uncommon for robbers to say something nonsensical prior to jumping someone.
@@lu_re7198 Yeah and when confronted, the "prankster" doesn't say anything, he just maintains very aggressive eye contact. What else did he expect? A moron.
Tanner stopped harassing Owen probably because of the shooting part …. I suppose it must have been that

It is very hard to sympathize with anyone who knowingly harasses people for monetary gain.
Actually, likes and views
I think the standard of behavior when a person is put in shocking situation is way off base. Not this case, this is just strange af, but if someone sticks a gun in your face who is going to react rationally? Maybe some hard core military guys or hard core police officers, but almost ALL of use would act irrationally because of the physiological response to insane situations.
I think the guy in this case should have been more clear with a warning before shooting, but I've never had some idiot come after me in a mall food court so I don't know and that is why I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt in this case. Did he handle it well? No. Would the other 330 million Americans have handled it well either? I doubt it.

UA-cam and social media needs to stop paying people for content and then we won't have this many problems with people so lazy to work that they just focus on crazy things to get attention for internet
UA-cam needs to demonatise prank videos. This 'genre' will go away pretty fast if that happens. People making money off unwilling participants doesn't seem right
That’s a great idea. YT has demonetized a lot of video types that actually provide a public service.
There are some light hearted respectful prank channels on youtube and they always go out of their way to let the people know they are a prank channel after pranking them. You see Tanner is a talentless little sociopath and the few great prank chanels do not upset people and do not stage pranks like so many horrible so called pranksters.
Edbassmaster has been making absolutely hilarious and respectful prank videos for 15 years
Ross on vlog creations is also very respectful but since he's grown and taken on some helpers that are irritating I hope he doesn't lose his genuine caring personality.
Agreed. People can be obnoxious turds all they want; but that doesn’t mean they should be compensated for it.
@@WillaHerreraI don't see how disrespecting other people and setting out to make fools of them in public, then publicizing the incidents on social media, is either funny or harmless.
Not just demonetize, the channel needs to be deleted completely. If the channel was giving people instructions and how to rob people it would be gone in a heartbeat. This is no different legally, it's a channel that is showing people how to harass and assault people for money. It is vile and repugnant and needs to be stopped immediately.
This is the definition of “F*** around and find out” right here. This guy is not pranking anyone, he is bullying and intentionally intimidating random strangers for his personal gain. As someone who has been mugged before, I can 100% feel Colie’s fear and anger, especially with Cook being much larger than him. I also believe that Cook targeted him due to his smaller size, not knowing he was armed and instead assuming that he wouldn’t retaliate. And as dark as it is, the footage of the incident is quite satisfying. Cook found a victim that wasn’t gonna put up with his harassing behavior and he was clearly shocked about it. That one round fired was indeed self-defense.
Stole the words right out of my mouth. Classic case of FAFU.
While i think just showing the gun would have been enough defense, i agree with what you said. As i said elsewhere, there had recently been other delivery drivers attacked & robbed, so, aside from the size difference, Alan would have already been fearful of any strange encounter. These creators really need to face serious consequences for their behaviour & definitely charged for any criminal acts. They are only going to be going to more & more extremes to get those views. The fact it's all for monetary gain makes it absolutely disgusting.

True! Deserves death 🙄 muricans gotta chill. The prank was not deadly, so why was the response so?
@@andysommerlot5123 Agreed. Also, a "prank" is entertaining and displays wit on the part of the "prankster." The goal of the prankster is to make the audience laugh. Terrorizing someone so the instigator laughs alone is just plain sadism and bullying---never a display of comedic talent.
Moral of story......make sure you're outside when you shoot someone
Bullies tend to call it 'pranks' when they get called out for harrassment.
Yes. Ive seen that plenty of times in middle school and high school.
Well said.
Bullying is not a crime. If it were, 3/4 of UA-cam viewers would be in prison right now.
But it's a crime to punch a bully in the face, how convenient for you.
But some people just don't give a shit and will drop you regardless 😂
@@jtfike society has degraded terribly when defending yourself against Bullying is treated as worse than the bullying.
Tanner Cook admittedly instills fear, intimidation, and confusion in his pranks. Menacing, harassment, and stalking charges should be brought on Tanner Cook. He is a horrible example of a "good" man. And his dad sticking up for him is too. The apple, (rotten to the core) doesn't fall far from the tree. 💯

The dad’s letter was ridiculous

He’s trying to relive his “glory” days through his kid.
Apple didn’t fall far from the tree.
Why am I not surprised his name is Tanner?
Tanner is a big guy. No one knows it’s a prank, it seems mentally unstable, aggressive, like bullying, harassment, and intimidation.
Mean a total douch
Not to mention the cameraman and the other "person" who was next to him. If I was a shopper I would've definitely thought the group was about to mug or jump him.
None of that makes it okay to shoot someone.
This is a perfect example of why it is so important to have more than one tool for personal protection. A gun was entirely disproportionate to the situation, but a faceful of pepper spray would have been 100% appropriate.
@@MrMagnanimanwho are you to say if something is ok or not? He was even acquitted so the jury seems to agree as well. Don't go messing around with strangers and you'll be just fine.

The scary thing is that I was in a similar situation and I thought I was being pranked and it turned out I wasn't. Many years ago, I was riding my bike when I saw a casual friend standing. I approached him and we talked about stuff. Two large guys approached us and started to make weird comments. I though that they knew my friend and they were busting his balls. Then one of them punched me in the head and I fell down. With me on the ground they started beating my friend. I was in complete shock and when I regained my vision, I run from there. My friend was not so lucky and got seriously beaten up. I am not proud of running away and leaving my friend behind, but at that moment I genuinely thought that they were going to kill me. If the situation were ever to repeat I would not think that it was prank and I would believe that my life was in danger.

When fight or flight kicks in, nothing else matters.
Very clearly and well stated. Tanner's dad's reaction explains clearly why Tanner is an abusive narcissist with no empathy for others.

Using words like “prank,” “colleagues” and “influencer” to describe this stain and his cronies lends them a level of credibility they don’t deserve
The term "influencer" in this specific context has no credibility. It's what these people like to call themselves but that doesn't make the descriptor accurate.
Dr. Grande's dry humor kills me...
Love ya buddy!
I very much agree with PhD Grande's thoroughly insightful evaluation of the incident and jury's findings. I realize we cannot blur the lines of justice so that anyone soliciting in a mall risk being shot but in this case the defendant should be fully exonerated and his gun rights restored.
He's a Psychiatrist NOT a PhD
The father’s response says EVERYTHING….Kids learn from parents modeled behavior, he obviously taught his kid this type of behavior in public is Ok.
The apple never falls far from the tree.
So true
Like father... like son OR the apple don't fall far from the tree.
One key people need to know is that harassment can become assault really quick. Don’t try and scare or intimidate people
Especially not food delivery drivers or riders. Most of them have been attacked multiple times in the past.
More people are armed than you know.
Yes, depending on the local law, assault doesn't need to be physical and is roughly defined as making someone feel extremely uncomfortable.
Annoying and harassing are a step away, annoying in yelling stupid stuff in a mall or playing stuff loud on a speaker, harassment is singling out one person and doing the same thing..
that case in Ohio with the white kid is interesting because he appears to pull up on these black kids (who already have records) and starts shooting them with this gel gun BUT that doesn't make sense to me at all why you would pull up on three older black kids (adults) and just do that...I mean there must be more context because you would only do that if you had a death wish. and well that wish came true, but the self defense part of it is the issue because afaik you are only acting in self defense so long as you have a demonstrable reason to believe your life is actively being threatened. like that cop who shoots that woman who stole the alcohol when she was driving straight towards him. but the black kids clearly decide they are not in imminent danger at some point (if they ever did) and then they proceed to beat the kid to death. I mean his spine was broken and he was lying face up on the ground, and that was only enough to get assault charges. I mean, with the YT prank my most generous take is that "it was just a prank" and if they didn't get what they deserved at least the verdict hopefully deters pranks in the future. for the other case my most generous take is that the white kid definitely should not have acted up like that but it wasn't self defense when they stomped him to death and the only implications of the verdict are that we need to return to a segregated society.
Tanner refusing to get out of Alan's face with a menacing look and his natural low intelligent appearance was definitely enough for Alan to assume Tanner was going to be physical threat. I think the aspect that Tanner kept a close distance brought the situation to a valid self defense scenario.
This will happen again. Hopefully these "influencers" will start to catch on. The trend of pranking/harassing random strangers is criminal behavior.
If you call harassment a prank, you may be able to get away with nearly anything. And with a gang, call them the production crew, so long as one of them has a phone/camera. Bullying and/or intimidation or threats can be renamed to a 'part of the pranking method'.
Precisely.
If anything can be considered a "prank" then why not turn other crimes into pranks. Theft, rape, assault, and murder could all be considered "pranks" by a twisted mind.
It's harassment and It's gang harassment at that. It's what low life scum cowards do. Tormenting someone like that is not normal good behaviour.
Totally agree doc. These people use the term “practical joke” as a smokescreen for bullying. Tanner is at fault.
Interesting interpretation. Cannot say that I totally disagree.
That's exactly what it is. People did this to me in school as a kid. They didn't leave me alone until I did things like throw school desks at them or stab them with pencils. They are poking people to get a rise. This kid had it coming to him. Let's hope next time someone properly punishes him.
@@nicholasfair6882 I worked with a giant fat slob who loved to do this to people at work and off the post.
"This kid had it coming to him. Let's hope next time someone properly punishes him."
I've had appendicitis.... if being gut shot is that painful, I think that Tanner has had a "come to Jesus" moment in his life.
The delivery driver was just trying to make a living. And the harasser was preventing him from making his next delivery. Lawmakers: Take heed. Enact some laws to have harassers fined and jailed.
I love these videos. You are always fair and look at all the facts, from every angle. You give more information about a topic in one video, then I would get from watching a series from another UA-camr
When you are outnumbered you don’t know if someone will stab you, hit you with a bat, punch you in the head, rob you, etc. You cannot keep track of 3 people following you closely in your personal space. Alan was not looking for a fight, he wanted to do his job. He was startled, intimidated, confused and harassed. Too bad the bully didn’t learn anything from this experience.
He was startled, intimidated, confused and harassed.
@@mattsmith1126is your name Pete
Apparently , the father didn' t learn anything either.
Decent people in his area should seek him out and deal him a dose of his own crap. I think it would be a funny prank if people just started walking up to this guy while he is doing a video and shooting him.
You are 100% right Screw That PUNK
Making someone feel endangered is not a prank.
UA-cam administration has a serious problem!!!
Ban the Oxygen thief
@mick776gold Saying something like this is assault undermines true assault victims.
I think shooting him was entirely unnecessary. He could have just as easily threatened him with the gun and gotten the same outcome of being left alone.
People in America are trigger happy.
I would have loved for him to threaten to shoot him and call the police for harrassment and then he would be the prosecution and not defense. And YTer would be making way less money or may even be serving some time.
@@ljeans531 Yes, just brandishing the weapon would have been a better response. But in the heat of the moment, when a much bigger person and his two buddies keep on advancing on him, I understand his fear response. BTW, assault means to cause a reasonable someone feel endangered. Battery is when something actually happens, such as contact. I didn't write battery, I wrote assault. Just because he was not touched, does not lessen the fear of someone advancing and getting so very close. He is a true assault victim.
@@mick776gold Thanks. I had a few yahoos on a different video telling me I didn't know what I was talking about calling it assault. What are your thoughts on calling it kidnapping or criminal imprisonment because the way they were advancing on him, preventing him from being able to flee?
@@mick776gold No, he harrased him. It's not the same. Shoving a phone in someone's face and following them is not assault. He used no threatening language and never made contact.
Acting erratically can scare anyone, just because you are scared doesn't mean you were assaulted. Just harrassed.
Thank you Dr. for your sound analysis. Very interesting and positively relevant and useful. Cheers
It’s an interesting case and I can see why Allan could have felt fearful. The prankster is towering over Allan and following him around with his other friend.
I think he knows exactly how people feel when he pranks them and relishes in it.
Profiting off torment by the looks of it.
Yeah. He understands and understood what he does. That is the "funny" part to them. Just a bunch of punks
Well everyone has established how he looks like and have identified him, so not sure he realizes that? Well he should know how people will respond next time.
That means he's a psychopath, not just a sociopath.
Exactly
The prankster is not "unable to recognize emotions" he is a sociopath, and simply doesn't care how uncomfortable he makes people. That is his intent.
I don't know the guy, never watched his content, but let's not label people socipaths based on one interaction that you observed in a video.
Nah, I think he recognizes the fear in people, he enjoys it.
Or a sadist, its arouses him.
@@leok7193Yeah whatever Jeremy 🤣
@@leok7193Um... this is a pretty accurate statement based on the YT channel the harasser owned.
This is the first presentation I have seen that actually explains what was said on the phone. Thanks.
This was the best I’ve seen. Your little witty wise cracks are superbly timed.
If an action causes someone else fear, humiliation, or embarrassment, the action is not a prank or a practical joke. It is harassment, bullying, and possibly assault. If I was being harassed and pursued by a 6-foot-4 man accompanied by his posse of three other males, I would have been terrified, even in a mall surrounded by hundreds of other people.
It is assault. Assault does not require that you intend to cause fear, only that you intentionally engage in actions that are *likely* to cause fear.
I think it would be hilarious if Alan got a monetary settlement from the guy he shot.
I would have hoped that Tanner would have learnt that “no means no!” from this incident, but apparently he hasn’t! 🤦♀️
Dudes going to get shot again
@@annchayer8017 Or get his ass curb-stomped.
He hasn't even learnt that bang means no.
The comments on his videos are apparently savage but… that’s still watch time even for a second it’s too much more than he deserves. I can’t believe UA-cam kept up his channel honestly.
@@annchayer8017I volunteer to do it!
I mean what are you supposed to do when someone much bigger continues to advance into your personal space, as you back away? Just wait for the police or security?
The people watching him are 100% as bad as Tanner. I hate influencers like Tanner, Ruby Franke, etc., who get all the attention for being mean or controversial. Quit watching that shit, people. You're as bad as them. Accountability is important. 🤬😡🤬
Pranks, if you absolutely must, are for friends and family. Directed at strangers are assault.
Exactly
I don't understand how there aren't lawsuits all over the place about this pranking is antisocial behavior, and it's obviously assault. How the DA let's it slide I do not know. Though I'm not sure what the DA is supposed to do anymore. Doesn't seem like they do much these days.
a prank isn't necessarily assault. Assault is specifically defined and is a physical thing that occurs to the victim. The shooter in this case was not assaulted, but had reasonable fear of imminent assault or robbery, which qualifies his actions as self-defense. Also, I don't think pranks necessarily need to be directed at friends or family, but they should end quickly and be totally harmless. If a 'prankee' is repeatedly telling you to stop and trying to get away from you and you won't let them, then it's not a prank anymore. It's harassment.@@kaufmanat1
2-3 grand a month?? Pranksters need to be demonetized. There, fixed the problem
Oh No. That would effect revenue and corporate profitability. :)
Extremely informative, thank you so much!
1: Im sad that Tanner survived
2: I'm happy Alan got 100% acquitted!
“Tanner behaved like a deranged individual.” Excellent observation. When you behave like a deranged person you will sooner or late be hurt by your victim. If he doesn’t stop it will happen again. Shame on YT for allowing such behavior.
UA-cam is a significant part of the problem for paying this Psycho for his content that should be banned.
@@rickkern5785 You tube tho will ban you for saying Tanner is a tosser
@@gowdsake7103Yeah, because that isn't profitable. Google is a company, they aren't your friend. Get some brains.
@OnTheRiver66: My personal opinion is the gun was disproportionate to the prank. However, this guy with the phone is much bigger, and persistent. A swift kick to the boyz would be apropo.
The best example of “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!”
@@terrysaunders2026 How was it disproportionate exactly? You have a very large man acting in a very deranged and menacing manner, and he is accompanied by three accomplices also acting strangely. You have no way of knowing what is about to happen in the moment. If you wait to react too long, they could be on you and it could be too late. I would have mag dumped that fool and sent him back to his parents in a pine box...
Dr Grande is better than many lawyers are dissecting a case.
The fact that his parents still support is evidence that they failed as human beings.
Tanner and all the rest of the goons that do these pranks need to spend some time in jail. Alan needs to be compensated for all the anguish he's been through over this incident. This has got to stop.
