    Wow, as of tonight (Christmas night in Australian times) this video just reached 6000 views. Yeah, I know it's not that much when you compare it to the millions of views a music video of some talent-less chick who can't sing with half her tits hanging out gets in the first 5 minutes of being uploaded, but 6000 is a lot to me. So, thank you to everyone who tuned it to watched it. Making it to this many views in just under 4 months with the limited resources I have made a great Christmas gift :)
    Anyway, keep training and stay safe!

      Nicholas Weise Protection, Self defence, Defence from Government. Were never in our constitution mainly due to the fact we were a British colony, meaning their not dumb enough to give us those rights if the people wanted to revolt. Yes some tried and failed. but our current laws will not change. the closest thing to a law change would be allowing the Import of Airsoft and BB guns, as our laws only ban things that look or function similar to full automatic weapons. So legally any aussie should be able to import airsoft pistols, Shotguns, semi and bolt action rifle. but in the late 90's and early 2000's customs/border security were given laws to stop their Import. So Basically you can own them you just cant import and they will take them as they pretend there real guns. watch this video ua-cam.com/video/UMwc9dNITFI/v-deo.html

    Hello John, My name is Tim George, I own a training school in Southern California. We teach and train from Las Vegas to the Southland. I came across your video and found that you are quite passionate about Center Axis. I trained with Paul many times just up to his passing. Paul was a very good friend of mine. I wish I could get together with you about your video. There are a lot of nuances that need expounding. You did a great job in your presentation but nothing like having a well-trained 1st generation Instructor to give you the fine tips. Here is an example of fire control. Your preferred side grip is otherwise known as a key grip or master grip. When we move from high position to extended position there is a slight curve in the wrist which means that your fire control side elbow will be slightly dipped just enough to lock your wrist. The arm and wrist are not straight, which might cause hyperextension of the wrist during the slide cycling thus end up with type 2 or 3 stoppages. Lock your wrist just like you're throwing a punch! Felt recoil disappears.
    I hope that is understandable and that it helps. I love to see other folks as your self promoting the system. Remember, Paul said it is an entire system, not just a stance. There is a lot to it.
    In the case of John Wick and the end of wick 2, I feel that it was not intentional or by design the way Kiano held that broken wrist grip. I just think he was shooting in Isosoweaver just before and turned his pistol over without making the proper roll as you put it to get the correct grip. I hate it when Hollywood does that because people will imitate what they see and that is clearly wrong.
    Keep growing my friend, This is our culture!

    I think John was holding his gun like that because he transitions a lot between CAR, weaver & isosceles. Easier to do that with a 'looser' grip.

    Even pepper spray is illegal in the upside down? How the hell are you supposed to defend yourself?

    • @ProtectiveOffence
      @ProtectiveOffence  6 років тому +26

      good old fashioned will-power, i guess :P haha. nah, other than using common sense to avoid violent situations at all costs such as don't go to dangerous places, not affiliate with violent drug-dealing biker gangs, etc. learning a reality-based self-defence system comes in very handy. i practice and teach Senshido and Krav Maga. other than that you can use everyday items as improvised weapons but you have to be smart about it. if it's a hot day and i already have a water bottle in my hands then i can use that. if someone decides to carry a regular pen in their pocket then draw that to stab someone who's attacking them then there's a likelihood they can go to jail for that because they can't really justify carrying a pen on them for everyday use, especially if they aren't carrying anything else to write on (which sums up most people who carry pens for self-defence). therefore the authorities will know they only carried it for the use of treating it like a weapon. especially if it was their first instinct to go for it once being attacked. it's hard to convince investigators that you immediately went for a pen to use as a weapon when panic is part of the scenario while also trying to convince them that you only carried it for the purpose of writing. you may not go to jail for it, but the chances of getting off without being charged are far from zero. alternatively you can call the police and hope they show up on time (good luck with that lol)

      @ProtectiveOffence  6 років тому +6

      thank you very much :) i probably won't do an advanced car explanation video simply because it requires real guns with live ammo to get the full experience. it's a bit hard to explain the differences unless i show it with a real gun. i will however very shorty do a CAR tutorial on SMGs, shotguns and rifles. sometime in the future if i ever go to a proper shooting range (IE, not one in Australia) then i will film an advanced CAR video.

      Hey, first i want to say as a former Army soldier and former law enforcement officer, and martial arts instructor. AWESOME JOB!! I have admired and practiced Paul Castle's CAR technique and love it. You sir did a great job explaining the platform and you definitely have me practicing more. Look people your firearm is a tool. I believe like martial arts you need to learn different variations of using your tools in changing environments. There is no 100% only way to shoot. The bottom line is HIT YOUR TARGET effectively without getting killed. Practice, practice, and then practice some more. Thank you for this.

    • @ProtectiveOffence
      @ProtectiveOffence  6 років тому +8

      hey, much appreciated :) yes, i also agree that a weapon is nothing more than a tool to help us accomplish a goal and/or mission. i prefer my weapons to be hardy and practical, not decorative. what also makes all the difference is who's wielding it. a gun in the hand of someone who knows how to use it is more effective than if it has to be used by a quadruple amputee. also, i thank you for all your service.

    It's good to see Center Axis Relock again. I haven't seen it since Splinter Cell Conviction and Blacklist. Blacklist built upon it from the Stealth side but in SC's case it was the right decision.

    Let me just start off by saying I only use guns for target practice (not allowed to carry or use weapons for self defense in Norway).
    I have been using Weaver for the last couple years, but this year I changed to Isosceles. Now I really want to try Center Axis Relock after watching this video. I just had one question about why you use the opposite eye of the gripping hand. I'm right handed and use my right eye in Both Weaver and Isosceles, but in CAR I should use my left? I feel like I still should use my right eye. I guess it really doesn't matter for my use case, but I'm still interested in knowing why.
    BTW, awesome video, easy to follow along, subscribed :)

    Interesting. I've been using a grip similar to that for years simply because it feels most comfortable and helps me shoot better without always having to use the sights. Still, thanks for the thumb thing. I've no formal training. I tend to rely on improv, refinement, practice, my own instincts and experience about what seems most effective.

    I had a question about the CAR shooting System. I seem to have a problem with seeing double vision still and was confused about something. Im right eye dominant and can seem to align it well on that side but my left eye not so much. Am i supposed to be blocking out my right or left eye (depending on what side im using) using the bridge of my nose? It seems to cancel out the double vision but i dont know if this is the correct form or distance...

    • @ProtectiveOffence
      @ProtectiveOffence  6 років тому

      hey sorry for the late response, i must've missed your comment :S i'll copy and paste what i wrote to someone else who asked the same thing - basically you just need to keep practicing until you learn to trust what you see with that eye. the ideology behind it is (and i quote) if you're in the extended/combat position, the only front sight you should be able to see is the correct one, so trust it and take the shot. The combat position tends to favour right handed/left eye dominant shooters. But there is a plus to those who are right handed/right eye dominant (such as yourself); you will be using your dominant eye to shoot with your left hand. This tends to lead to a very fast adaption of your traditionally "off or weak" side shooting. with all that being said, i don't even know what my dominant eye is, it tends to change depending on what i'm trying to focus on (with or without a gun). I just kept practicing shooting from my right AND left hand until i got better with both hands each time. we all have 2 eyes and i trust both of mine equally. i hope that answered your question.

    Before saying anything I would like to thank you for the contribution and opinions you're sharing. That being said: I still have a few critiques/opinions I would like to share also. To begin: John Wick only used the CAR (Center Axis Relock) system when in close quarters (as I believe it should be used) and he uses your standard thumbs forward/Isosceles grip. Second: Using the CAR system/style grip blades your body and as most know; if you catch a bullet while bladed you will die the wide majority of the time. Thirdly: Mobility sucks in when bladed, the human body wasn't designed to move like a crab. Fourth: When using the Combat Ready/Extended position your elbows are kinda winged outwards and that's supposedly terrible for multiple reasons (which is why we nowadays shoot rifles without our elbows winged). And lastly: As far as recoil control goes, the push-pull method sucks because when one hand is pulling the gun reward; the gun will naturally recoil more and meeting your thumbs together doesn't actually help manage recoil because you're not making any contact with the gun counter-acting the force of recoil. ALL THAT BEING SAID: I believe CAR is THE BEST system for close quarters or when you're on the ground (underneath someone) when you cannot extend your grip because the standard way of shooting just plain-out sucks in every possible way in said situations/positions.

    I prefer shooting with my middle finger.

    • @ProtectiveOffence
      @ProtectiveOffence  6 років тому

      technically any shooting systems can be modified to use your middle finger to shoot with provided you have a middle finger. i don't find that it helps at all but if you can make it work and if it helps you, go right ahead.

    • @Psyrecx
      @Psyrecx 6 років тому

      I'm just wondering how it will effect it if at all from standard. I find that shooting with a middle finger is over all more comfortable and stabilizes the gun better. I guess I could turn it into my own specialty grip :D

    I started watching this video for fun but that opposing pressure with the thumbs seems like it could work well for me, too. I'd try that or at least figure out a variation of it to see if it works best for me. At least until I get a Glock build kit or the legal system here in the US gets significantly less corrupt, I'll stick with something like my old 1851 Navy replica in .44 cal. Can't do some of that stuff you show safely or effectively with something like a single action revolver. Anyway, great info. Thanks.

    Gentlemen , I was a student in Paul’s last class before he passed away . I and a few other students stayed at Paul’s house for the class. I was the last person to leave his house after the last day of training . I left him my San Jose Police Firearms Range Patch on his kitchen table . In addition , the night before he let me download all of training manuals . And I believe I still have the thumb drive with all the info if anyone is interested ...Paul knew he was dying and let me download his training manuals ...

      cheers. yeah, most Australians who care about fighting with guns for combat or self-defence need to go out of their way to find the best information they can and to travel overseas to train with better instructors because we don't have guns laws that allow us to train how to fight with guns. so people like me will make sure the time we spend training counts for something. all we're allow to do here with guns is hunt (which i don't) or shoot targets at a shooting range in a competition setting. we don't just drive past readily available training centres and have awesome instructors or courses just fall at our feet. maybe i'll move to Texas... just gotta work on my accent ;)

    thank you for the video series about C.A.R. there arent a lot of good instructions around.
    but i have a question about the ambidextrous shooting. My right eye is a bit weaker than my left so my brain kinda went to be left eye dominant although im right handed. so the normal combat stance is really great for me. the last days i tried a bit to switch hands and of course it feels strange to use the left for me. but thats not that big of a problem . the thing is that my brain is so focused on the left eye that i automaticallly raise the sights to that eye and if i consciously try to aim over the right it really takes me quite some time to " switch the picture in my brain". Is that trainable have other ones here experienced something similar ?
    And BTW youre right names are just BS its so dumb how much people focus on how to call something these days. i mean its just words the acton does not become wrong or ineffective when i call it somethng different.

      hey there, thanks for your questions. the short answer is practice and over time you will get better. also, have you watched part 3 of my videos on pistols yet? i mention transitions in that one with some tips you may find useful. but really, just constantly practising with your non-dominant hand (even if it's dry practice) will help a lot. i was terrible with my off-hand when i first started but i got better over time. don't give up, i believe in you :P

    I may have missed this question in the comments; but how do you compensate for right handed shooter with right dominance? I am an armed security officer. I like the idea of your technics here but I’m curious to know if I I could use this style to improve.

    • @ProtectiveOffence
      @ProtectiveOffence  6 років тому

      basically you just need to keep practicing until you learn to trust what you see with that eye. the ideology behind it is (and i quote) if you're in the extended/combat position, the only front sight you should be able to see is the correct one, so trust it and take the shot.

    • @ProtectiveOffence
      @ProtectiveOffence  6 років тому

      hey man, yeah, understandable. well, there's an e-learning course run by Sabre Tactical where you pay them money to download a 130 page PDF file covering a lot of the stuff i already talked about, then i think you do a Q&A test online with them. some of the info is outdated such as how to hold a flash light with a pistol. a friend sent me the PDF file a while back which he probably shouldn't have because the company gets screwed out of money this way but anyway... i'll add the link below if you're interested in checking it out. also you can use the code edr20 for a discount at the checkout. keep in mind, i found that a lot of things with the ecourse were over-explained. for example, one part talks about clearing a pistol malfunction and says "Slap the floor plate with the Reaction Hand. This may assist any rounds that have become hung up inside the magazine. Take hold of the Slide at its rear position with the Reaction Hand, and push the Weapon Hand forward. Direct the Reaction Hand toward the Weapon Side arm. Conduct this motion with speed, the faster the better. For safety reasons, extend the barrel past the Reaction arm when completing this procedure. Return to Firing Position." that's a really complex way of saying "do a tap and rack quickly". so when i teach CAR, i give a more simplified explanation. i'll also be uploading more videos on CAR so stay tuned for that.
