I’m curious about the “interface”. Do they have to customize what each of his thought inputs relates to. Like when he’s thinking drive in Mario cart, is it then programmed to the drive button?
Sort of but mostly its your brain doing the reprogramming not the software. There's calibration required for sure where you will just spend time trying to move a dot to a target spot on the screen. Itd be like learning to walk as your brain makes and reinforces the connections to the neuralink with their respective actions on screen.
Now in this case because its the first human trial and there were some hickups with certain threads not making connection they did in fac5 modify the algorithm in order to make it more efficient with the limited inputs

Imagine like you have grown third arm and you can move it. You dont think "hmm im gonna lift my arm" you just do it, how? because your brain knows what signals to send, because you learned it. You observe what signals result what motion and in time it becomes automatic.
