We're not that far off from doing it when you look at the bigger picture. Humans have only been around for 10,000 years-ish and we already have the basic plan of how we're going to build our Dyson Sphere out of planet Mercury using robots who once on Mercury would build more robots to tear apart the planet to build the solar panels that they would put around the sun. Dinosaurs were around for 150,000,000. It's just about building smarter, more durable robots at this point.

Did she pretty much say that no species could survive long enough to build one (and citing our own issues in the process)? Wow, felt like I was watching "Don't Look Up" for a second.
Everything science has claimed to be untrue or incorrect or impossible is actually the opposite. The scientific community has one of the longest streaks of being wrong about everything that we have ever seen. Just keep that in mind.
@prophecygg5826 Yes and no... because people who make *proper* claims base it on all the current knowledge we have as a species. What is proven incorrect is a result of further discovery. So if we say, "We are unable to make Dyson Spheres", so far that's true. We don't have nearly enough material in our planet alone to encircle the sun in a singular ring, let alone a sphere. But if there's somehow a possibility that we can quickly harvest material from other planets to create the sphere in the future, then its a different story. Just that so far nothing points to us being even remote able to do so. We're too busy being pacified by media and distracted by conflict.
@@prophecygg5826I think science by its very nature is wrong, it’s kind of the point. Everything is a theory that openly invites being disproven. That’s how we progress.
I particularly enjoyed the part where the lovely scientist lady said that advanced lifeforms (including us) are likely to self destruct in some way before reaching the level of intelligence needed to build those types of structures. Whether it’s destroying their home planet until it’s uninhabitable or simply killing one another with their advanced weaponry. It’s humbling and intriguing.
I actually took issue with that assertion. I don't think we should assume that alien civilizations are as irresponsible as ours. Technology is a Pandora's box for sure, but maybe other creatures could be more rational and disciplined than we are
@@VYBEKAT Yeah, I completely agree that it’s possible that other lifeforms could advance with more discipline. But that’s just the thing that I found so interesting about her saying what she said. It’s just her opinion that maybe we haven’t encountered other advanced civilizations because there hasn’t been one that has made it long enough to reach the point of interstellar travel. Generally, when hearing from people who believe that aliens are out there, they believe that aliens haven’t made contact because they choose not to, or think we aren’t ready as a civilization for that. I just enjoyed the different perspective of someone saying that maybe other advanced civilizations die out before they reach that point. It’s something I hadn’t really considered before, and it intrigued me. On a side note, it’s interesting to think about whether other lifeforms would/could advance without emotions. Or minimal emotion. Since emotions are essentially the thing that drives innovation, and also causes wars and violence against our own race, and would be the reason why nukes and other weapons of mass destruction could end humanity. If another life form evolved without emotion, would they have the curiosity to advance so far technologically, or would they just be content with what they have? Like if our insects had basic understanding of how to operate solar panels to stay warm in the winter or a spacecraft to visit other planets, would they care? Or would they think, ‘We’re not in any danger of our kind going extinct, so what’s the point?’ Anyway, I just like keeping an open mind to all of the different perspectives and possibilities. TLDR: I agree. Lol
@@VYBEKATyep! They only have one civilisation to compare it with, surely they need far more civilisations to compare it with, to make an half decent hypothesis of what is possible. @@OokamiREDACTED Also I wonder what the politics are in our own universe. Would there be a supreme species that dominates all others or are we living at a competitive stage? Would be interesting to know all that
@@VYBEKATidk if she really asserted it, but you have to wonder why we don't see more explicit signs of alien life and one explanation is that it is really systemically difficult to achieve those higher levels of civilization (like the kardashev type 2, 3, etc). As a Christian. Yes, this is real. However don’t be fooled into thinking this is an alien. This is an ophanim angel described IN THE BIBLE in Ezekiel 1:15-21 ! Angels don’t look like how people draw and sculpt them. There are multiple species of angels. Only people who don’t read the Bible for themselves think angels are human like.
First of all, a dyson sphere is about ABSORBING that infrared energy, so how is there more emitting IR energy??? Remember, Ellen Stofan at NASA said back in 2015 that we will know if we are alone in the universe in about 10-20 years. We are approaching that deadline.
I've read the paper and they've done some pretty robust research, though they stop short of calling it "we found Dyson spheres!" Rather, they were looking for candidates, as in, eliminating every star that is definitely not a Dyson sphere, and a few that could be explained as Dyson spheres, among other things. If anything they are just pointing at those stars and saying: "Hey, if you're seriously looking for Dyson spheres, start here."
Its the latest sci-fi thing. I get it. In about 20-30 years it will be something else. If people can have fun with it, along with scientists and physicists what harm does it do…other than create clickbait videos that quickly brush over the fact that it “could be something else” or “terribly unlikely”.
@@JanicePreston- I wouldn't say "It's the latests thing" since Dyson published his paper in 1960. And the basic idea was there since the 1930s. So if anything, it's the latest attempt at exploring the idea.
The problem with a Dyson Sphere is the amount of material needed to build even 1% of one. All the metal on Earth, every type, all combined, wouldn't allow us to build 1/10th of 1% of a Dyson Sphere around our small sun. An alien species could loot every resources from 1000 worlds and barely be able to start production on one. They'd need to be able to create matter in an unfathomable scale to be able to build a Dyson Sphere around a single star. It's a great concept, but i just don't think it's possible even for a type 3 civilization.
What makes you think it’s material like metal or an elemental resource? It could be manipulation of an invisible force like gravity or waves that redirects expanding energy.
@mattgoss3060 Because it literally blocks out the sun. Gravity wouldn't do that. Gravity would bend the light of the sun rather than blocking it out. A star blinking is one of the ways we've detected possible Dyson spheres. Something huge (or a ton of small objects) keeps moving in front of the star, blocking it's light, causing it to blink when we look at it. The other way we see them is by the radiation which is caused by something solid absorbing huge amounts of the star's energy. Could be a gigantic astroid belt (although a star would likely pull all of the asteroids into itself), very thick dust/gas clouds, or alien technology.
@@stephonwar2843 I disagree, if the origin of life on earth is unknown then it is truly unfathomable to imagine the odds. in my own perspective, it'd be like calculating coincidence. it's simply not possible when the variables are unknown. even when they are known, we can't know how likely they are. of course, theory will always exist.
I’d say it’s 100% mathematically impossible. Life began between 4.1 billion to 3.5 billion years ago, the Earth only formed 4.5 billion years ago. If you take into consideration the time needed for the Earth to cool down enough to form solid land masses and oceans, life formed on Earth as early as it possibly could. I’ve read more than once that this is evidence that life forms more easily than scientists thought possible before we could accurately date the beginning of life on Earth. Plus, we’ve had so many ELEs, including one where 99% of all life was wiped out, so we know that once formed, life seems quite difficult to destroy completely once it’s started, no matter how catastrophic the event(s).

Everything science has claimed to be untrue or incorrect or impossible is actually the opposite. The scientific community has one of the longest streaks of being wrong about everything that we have ever seen. Just keep that in mind.
@@prophecygg5826 this comment is based on nothing but ur speculative conception of the scientific community

Or would they think, ‘We’re not in any danger of our kind going extinct, so what’s the point?’
Anyway, I just like keeping an open mind to all of the different perspectives and possibilities.
TLDR: I agree. Lol
@@VYBEKATyep! They only have one civilisation to compare it with, surely they need far more civilisations to compare it with, to make an half decent hypothesis of what is possible. @@VYBEKATidk if she really asserted it, but you have to wonder why we don't see more explicit signs of alien life and one explanation is that it is really systemically difficult to achieve those higher levels of civilization (like the kardashev type 2, 3, etc). It’s just the 100th Dyson sphere claim this decade. It’s probably just an other star doing its thing.
They can just mine asteroids
@@CarrotSurvivor you say that like its easy 😅 asteroids are not that big. You would have to mine a LOT of asteroids 😂
Type 3 can do it because they harvest energy from galaxies, you're talking about type 2s that go for the host stars.

@@meatpopsicle1567 It does matter I think. Just the thought of it really matters. Just the idea of aliens has changed humanity already.
