Composed by Dan Forden / Matt Furniss (But I think really it's Matt Furniss, since the arcade sound is COMPLETELY different, right?)
NOTES: I thought about editing the stage theme/danger music/ends together so that they flowed the way the game does, but I didn't know what people would think of that.
Included weird unused sound codes.
Probably the best of the 3 on the Sega and maybe in general? - Ігри

Break dance practice, UA-cam
the megadrive, master system and game gear version is composed by mad.
the arcade, super nintendo and game boy versions are composed dan forton
This was the version I grew up with and it feels so much darker than other versions.
+Yuzoboy yeah me 2, i likes 2 the best out the 3 versions, mk2 made my childhood awsome
i agree i think the megadrive version of the ost was miles ahead of the arcade version
+tony82122 This was partly due to Matt Furniss. Excellent sound producer.
Outstanding
Something way more sinister with the Genesis ost. That happens with Altered Beast as well.
I can remember Christmas morning waking up and playing MK 2 along with Sonic 2! Good times!
Talk about two games with completely opposite tones especially regards to the two soundtracks lol
@@godspeedmaximus Dude! Same combo of games! Also got the old Power Rangers fighting game.
@@L8R_SpaceCowboy cool!
Same here love them both 😊💗
My parents gave me my Genesis on 1994 Christmas. This was the first game I ever had, and the memories are so awesome...
10:06 The drums are incredible !
Matt Furniss, this guy is just unbelievable, he did understand the essence and translated it to perfection using genesis capacity to the max ... feel those beats, bass, and what about those "dark asian" instruments and rhythms. All these factors really make justice to the name of the game when you listen to every track.
Honestly it was probably the Mortal Kombat games that began my lifelong fascination with East Asian cultures.
тоже прочувствовал...красавчик
23:51 Very dark, very sinister and extremely depressive.
3:29-4:00 🤘
That’s the danger of it! I loved all that garbage, but Satan was a musician before he fell. He lures us away from Christ through the entertainment industry.
@@sethburkhart1021 You say that like it's a bad thing.
HisVirusness well we are all led to emulate our fathers. If we truly recognize God as our father, though not perfect this side of heaven, our lives will be marked with love, truth, self sacrifice, humility, gentleness, and patient endurance. If you want to know what life is like following Satan, look no further than Hollywood. It’s a life of lies, perversion, destroyed families and marriages, unnatural acts, selfishness, brutality, blood drinking, and everything that is taking this nation down. Do you truly think that’s all cool? Don’t lie to yourself friend. We are accountable for every wicked thing we do unless we trust Christ to take our punishment onto himself. I’m glad you replied.
@@sethburkhart1021 I'm glad you replied, too. Now I know who to avoid.
The best tune for me 6:37 Long Life to SEGA and Mortal Kombat 2!!!
David Arriola 4:07 banger
thats actually badass af
4:07 Spiritually made for the Genesis
Ya it actually sounds better than the arcade version. But the arcade version of living Forrest just can't be beat. Same with courtyard from MK1
Tower theme
Still love every song on this game. Instantly transfers me back to that kid mastering everything there was to master on MK II. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug!
sega's bass is just magestic
Damn! The "Danger" version for The Dead Pool goes hard as hell. 🔥🔥🔥
You can't help but feel like you're going to melt in that pool.
Somehow this version of the soundtrack sounds even better than the actual original soundtrack.
Amiga version sounds much better...
@@Baseqq Bro ❤. I didn’t even know about that soundtrack. Loving the differences and how trippy they sound
Agreed
agreed
00:39 Character select is perfect
When you highlight Shang Tsung, he looks like he’s dancing to the music.
From Kombat Tomb (arcade)
This mk9 select remake
When I bought the Arcade 1up MKII cabinet I was really disappointed this wasn't the song. Apparently this is only on the Genesis?
13:22 Living Forrest was one of my favs. But I love all of it and MK1 aswell
6:37 - 10:02 absolutely the best one.
It was something out here !
I used to play MK2 when I was a child and I didn't know how the music is different for the arcade version. But I grew up listening to the Mega Drive OST and like this version so much!
22:15 This noise that came with the fatality always used to scare my little sister especially when we were playing at night LOL..I think this was the best of the arcade Mortal Kombat -you can tell they put so much love into this game the sounds are so fitting and amazing and even with the Sega Genesis it somehow makes it more grittier and scarier
To me it feels half arsed. Don't get me wrong I like this version of the game but we all know the md was capable of more. Probe weren't a great developer.
JamesyBoyJim dude even so the music is a millions times better than snes everyone knows this
I remember being scared of MK as a kid too, lol, but as I grew up I started to appreciate it in a different way. The music in this version is so good
That is pretty much what comes to my mind when I see real life tragedy (a corpse full of blood, etc), oh and let us not forget the blood dropping from each letter of "FATALITY" sound effect.
@@carlosroberto366that's not at all healthy lmao
4:07 the best!
I agree
Es una pasada!!!
The music of Mortal Kombat 1 & 2 on the Sega Genesis rocks. The Arcade and SNES versions don't even come close of sounding this amazing.
Your delusional! The arcade set the standard this is just complete shit no where near the arcade sound
Nah it sounds good.
BIGGIEDEVIL
In no way am I delusional, it's just my opinion. It's ok if you don't like the Sega Genesis MK2 soundtrack and that you like the arcade soundtrack better. Calling it complete shit, not really. It's really a great unique rearranged soundtrack, Matt Furniss did an amazing job with the music.
Funny how some people judge things in a very binary way sometimes. It's either the very best or complete shit.
andyukmonkey Just the way things are now, I'm afraid.
The programmers does miracles with the Yamaha FM ship
If matt furniss worked on ultimate mk 3 soundtrack... man it would've been a killer. Matt furniss always maked sure that the genesis/mega drive sounds clean and good that people like. Every soundtrack he did in genesis/mega drive impresses me and never disappoint
@Benjamin Owuye Jagun Yea, we're all humans and not perfect.
Edit: I checked the megalomania soundtrack, and i can say that it sounds pretty average. Really can see that Matt wasn't that experienced with chiptunes at that time
Matt furniss=super genius😃
I want to see matt doing music for games again😢😢
when my dad got me this for christmas 1994, this shit literally scared me every night. the new toasty guy that appears after you inter the cheat code left down left right down right left left right right ... yeah and noob saibot terrorized my poor 10 year old mind as well. now at 34 i have nothing but love and respect for ed boon and john tobias aka noob saibot
Another excellent sountrack composed by Matt Furniss. I myself prefer the first Mortal Kombat's soundtrack on the Mega Drive. Nothing beats that percursion! Matt Furniss was with the best in YM2612 music making!
I agree, I like Furniss's music on the Genesis.
Nice Ristar Avatar
@@jeremym9011 matt furniss is very well with this chip, but, the máster of Masters is yuko koshiro.....
Yeah man. He had those drums rocking much harder on MK1
The little downside of the Genesis port is the lack of voice samples, but over than that, the soundtrack kicks ass.
from:40-1:18 that song is fuckin sick, when you're going to choose a player
In retrospect, I like the direction Matt Furniss took for the music -- the Sega version of MKII definitely had unique feel.
Overall I actually prefer the Genesis game over the Arcade version 😂
Agreed
Comes again to hear this fantastic soundtrack during my job...
Matt's re-arranges sound so much Dark and "Gothic" than the original. PERFECT for the vibe of this game!
Thank you again Dustin!
And yet here I am in 2021. Listening to this fantastic OST. Had to beg my neighbor to play this game. Good times.
The DEFiNiTiVE 'Character Select' theme for MKII. Really gave the game a dark feel from the outset. They got it so wrong on the SNES.
+BEastmix i like both. character select and battle map always seemed to be the highlights of the snes MK soundtracks.
Meh, the first two amiga mk2 tracks are epic. Blow this shit and the snes out the water.
It's an arranged version of the original Kombat Tomb stage. Got much better.
SNES just emulated the Arcade music. It was okay.
Genesis realized that it isn't an arcade machine, and made something new, and great.
mk 2 sounds alot better on genesis than snes
+Charles Bush all MKs do.
+Charles Bush I gotta agree
agree
+Charles Bush but arcade version sounds better than all
+Charles Bush that character select screen and the ladder i love it
I can hear the announcer saying, “FIGHT!” in my head at the beginning of each stage song.
And me! Hahaha
Genesis sound is cosmic
Best description
i always felt that as child playing some games at genesis, sounds like cosmic terror and doom, contrary to snes who sounds more "cute"
My childhood right here 💜
brings back memories all the way to learning moves and doing fatalities and write them in our game diary, this is cool man... I appreciate your work!!
ahh, bumpin Wasteland again :)
The genesis soundchip and just the droning bass that was able to be produced for these versions is absolutely fantastic, really fits the mood of the game! Love this version so much, I truly think the dead pool stage on the genesis is the best version of the track
Real fucking drums!
I was in 1st grade and would run home from school to play this on Genesis.
Gracias por subir esta maravilla!!! ❤️
I’m probably having an unpopular opinion, but this version of mk2 is better than every other one.
6:36 is freaking amazing, real drums...
best audio upload ever!
i think people will agree with me on this one.that the fatality theme on this game is the most disturbing, creepy and devilish tune in all mortal kombat history.it still gives me the chills after 20 years
4:07 the Best for me 💀
Thank you very much! Best sounds!
23:51 Nice one Cyril. Nice one son. Nice one Cyril. Let's have another one........repeat (UK Football Chant)
4:07 is where たわごと gets real...love the beat.. like a snake coming up out of the grass
23:47 is used in the game, for Mileena and Shang Tsung's Friendship.
23:51 is unused, but the music is called "Goodnight Ladies" in case anyone was wondering.
I love most the fact that basically each port has it's own, distinct soundtrack and I love them all! Because I played them all as a child, haha.
4:07 my favorite )
yeaahhh
Шипы
what a tuneeee.. .dammnnn!! So after 20 years i'm still listening it!
"Battle Map" is my favorite theme. Mean SK should make a beat out this.
I grew up to these tracks on Sega, hands down the best.!!
incredible been a long time since i head this but its all coming back to me like it was yesterday
23:51 so THATS the song that played when I tilted the cartridge
It's a football chant from the UK! Aimed at a player with a two-syllable name when they scored a goal, originally for a player with the name of Cyril, thus the lyrics were:
"Nice one, Cyril, nice one, son,
Nice one, Cyril, let's have another one"
The Dead Pool tune is the best!
The intro song and wasteland are so good
23:52 Goodnight Ladies
Who else practiced their fatalities alone in 2-player mode?
My favorite MK VG in the MK series and for the Genesis. It has that eerie and darkness to it which I like!!
Музыка на сеге лучше чем в аркаде
This version sounds more menacing the snes sounds like a children's xylophone
I have to subscribe to your channel as a music producer and songwriter, AND most importantly a lover of video games
Thank you, Dustin for another great ost compilation. Really a great surprise. This ost is an example how the GEMS sound engine in the appropriate hands can provide an excellent sound. It is not only the music... the huge amount of diferent sound patches, voices, etc, added tho the music is something astonishing.
Late answer, but this doesn't use GEMS. It uses a custom sound driver, that Matt Furniss used for all of his genesis/mega drive soundtracks. I think you know this already, since your comment is 2 years old.
@@tammura22letsplays You are right, The MK 1 and 2 included Crisalis Sound engine... MK3 and the ultimate added the GEMs one 😅
@@joyridergt No need to be embarrased for not knowing something. But yea, MK3 used GEMS. It sounds good too. Reason being, Dan Forden had experience with fm synth already. He used the arcade Ym 2151 chip when he composed music on MK1 arcade version.
@@tammura22letsplays The great part on running GEMS is by the sound banking capability that provides full set of audio pcm samples stored in the ROM available for ingame sound playing... SNES for example only had 64kb available for sampled instruments + voices for ingame playing and ned to stop the game to refresh its audio ram.
@@joyridergt Yea GEMS is really good. Sadly, it never showed as much compared to other sound drivers on the genesis. Lazy composers gave it a bad name, which it didn't deserve. There are few or more good GEMS soundtracks out there, but not enough to show how good it is. The best GEMS soundtrack for me is comix zone, beacuse it pushes the limit of that sound driver quite good. It has some of the best guitars ever heard on the system, really good piano etc. And overall great tracks.
Dude bro, mad respect. oooooh even got the hidden tracks I see. Bro, mad respect for dat bro. mad. .mad respect bro for that.
The storyines in MK were like my bible, as a kid
+CosmicUndeadElf same lol
+CosmicUndeadElf same lol
Finally someone has put the actual genesis/megadrive music up. Forever only finding the arcade or polished versions.
my favorite version of MKII OST. Far better than SNES, Arcade and even the CD version, IMHO.
Shizeeg Unadequatov The sega genesis had great soundtracks for the Mortal Kombat games.
But mk3 md port is just crap!!!!!
@@apple5893 is very faithfull to the arcade, adapted to 16 bit, the umk3 is awful in snes compared to genesis....
Dark soundtrack I love it 🔥
love this port the music is so damn sweet
And Armory, boy this brings me back to my childhood !!
A melhor versão é do mega, as músicas são bem melhores e nítidas.
I have fond memories of the living forest theme. I’d start the match and immediately trip my opponent repeatedly and hear the end music before the theme starts to really pick up, lol
I love it 01:24
Those drum samples are clean
15:30 banging of the drums are amazing. And the thunderous sound.
Best main menu theme and character selection theme ever.
This is the first MK i had. Ahhh!!!!.... what a memories with my MD2 at 50hz.
I love this game. It's one of my personal favorites.
I still have the genesis cart of this game with my Genesis 3 and a few other physical carts. First time I played this was back in the mid 90's
better than snes i think, its alot darker
snes is better (in some ways) its closer to the arcade version and yes, played all the 2 versions back to back but the mega drive 1. no real voice acting "fatality" or the players names. snes version they screem if it really is hurding them. the mega drive? "oh!" only that. but all in all? the pc version beats the super nes and mega drive fully.
@@jaxxh6529 the snes version is bad, is more complete tha the genesis, but the gameplay is......
Beautiful stuff.
This was my favorite of all of them.
My favorite theme in MK2 is Cloud Room, that theme is bangin'.
the best mk ever created
best mk music ever )
Bom demais isto, melhor que qualquer musica mundana, isso é bom demais pra escutar, viajando, trabalhando, é uma terapia...
mano, muito lúcido seu comentário.
Character select screen and the ladder are so epic
Yeah I feel your pain. we all hate having to fight kintaro.
I think is a good idea get together the finishers/ends w the original to complete the entire OST to make more dynamic and atmosferic. Please, do that and finally i'll hear a masterpiece in a unique way w high quality, like this.
I always rather the SEGA megadrive soundtrack instead the Arcade.
Masterpiece
Brilliant upload, sounds even more powerful and better than MK3
best console ost.
6:30 too short, have to play it like 10x to do justice
Kinda abstract sound. Fits very well with the Red/Black sky of the tomb. reminds me the end of Mark Bowen by Faith No More.
And the cloud room!!! So bomb.. !
just bought this in mint condition for 27 euros.........childhood saved
by the way! Track from 4:06 is like a deadth sentence is starting..........
people who thinks the snes version is better than this must buy new ears immediately!
One of the instruments in the Snes version is about 90% fuzz. It's awful.
The gameplay on both the Genesis and the SNES was quite similar but some people actually believe that the music on the SNES was better than the Genesis. On the SNES the music is just a little too corny it takes away from the dark and sinister setting that is Outworld. The music on Genesis was quite perfect and dare I say even better tham the arcade version.
@bee boo That would be a poor business decision, given that the Sega Genesis had an installed base of about 30 million plus systems in homes. You wouldn't make anything on that system? Plus people are saying the music was better on the Genesis, not that MK2 was better on Genesis than Snes. I think most can agree that overall the Snes port was better. The Saturn was a complete flop, only installed about 10 million units.
Oh and ClaviusMusic was referring to the Snes not having comparable hardware to the arcade and of course it didn't. 200 buck system vs a 2000 dollar machine. The Snes had a soundchip with very little ram, something like 24 kb. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. It was a reference to the Snes not being able to replicate the music, that's it.
@@axelfoley20 30 million systems? More like 39 million.
@@avideogamemaster I did say 30 plus. I wasn't 100% sure the exact number at the time and even that 39 is questionable because they don't have exact numbers.
even though I preferred the arcade sound tracks, this is the version I played the most, brings back good memories
