      This is why people get mad about small cameras. They forget that some of us bring cameras with us in case we want to shoot, not because we're going out on a shoot. The latter makes perfect sense to have the biggest most powerful piece of kit. The former only requires a small ergonomic snapper that does enough.
      Im hoping the Canon M6II come to RF. That would be my perfect camera.

    R8 sensor is not same sensor as in R6. Its the same as in R6 mk II. In your place I would rather try to actually test R8 and then compare it to R6 or r6 ii. However, i do agree that at the moment all reviews of r8 are marketing hype and would be better to wait.

    Your title says youre comparing R8 to R6, yet at 3:26 you mention R6 is the supercharged version of the R8 and then proceed to mention that the R6 has the 24.6 or something sensor and then you add that it is the Mark II version that has it, however you make it seem to appear it is the R6 that has the 24.6 full sensor, when in fact the R6 only has the 20.something sensor. And yet you say the R6 is the supercharged version. I think you are being misleading in your comparison. Take the R6Markii completely out of the comparison since that is not what you are comparing against the R8. Or change the title of your vid to R6/R6Markii vs R8.

    Also the R6 Mark ii is excat same internals as the R8, yes u dont have IBIS but its not needed when almost all canon lenses has OIS. I will deffently say, if u dont have budget for the R6 mark ii, take the R8 its a amazing camera, insane image quality. U can do alot of PRO work with an R8.

      This BF weekend direct from canon web the r8 refurb $1000 with 10% loyalty program down to $899 or the r6mk1 for 1099.00 which is the better buy if I can only keep one this will be my first camera as a hobbyist I just want the best camera I can get for my money spent at this price range ?

      @TMVVisualMedia  10 місяців тому

      @carlosr.2027 that's a crazy good deal for the R6 mark 1.
      I would choose the R6 mark1. I still own the R6 and it's so good. And that BF price is tough to beat. It's a camera that you will grow into vs a camera that you will out grow.
      The R8 would be good for you if you want to learn more about video and content creation because it doesn't have overheating and record limits. But if your doing strictly photo with some light video recording then I would pick the R6.
      Let me know what you decide!

    • @TMVVisualMedia
      @TMVVisualMedia  3 місяці тому

      Both are really good systems.
      Canon is a little more expensive and your limited on your 3rd party lenses. The Canon lenses are the best on the planet and they come at a premium.
      Sony has great technology and has opened up their mount system to 3rd party lens makers. Making the lenses more affordable.
      It's a tough choice regardless but you will not go wrong with either brand. They are both premium brands.
      Let me know if you have any other questions. I own all Canon cameras. Including the R8.

      If it's the L option. Then yes.
      The R6 and R5 both came with an option for the 24 to 105 f4 L. That lens is a beast. But if I'm not mistaken they also had an option for both cameras for the non L version.
      Good question. 👍

      I totally agree. While doing some research for this video I came across some videos about the shortages coming to Canon. I ran into a similar problem when I was in the market for the 28-70 f2. I called every camera shop in my area and had them promise me they would call me as soon as one came in and I had to convince them I had cash in hand.
      Its going to be an awesome camera though. Are you thinking about getting it?

    • @p_adam19
      @p_adam19 Рік тому +1

      @@TMVVisualMedia Eventually yes. But I almost never buy anything new.
      Maybe if I see a cheap enough RP with some extra batteries and a grip I will have some accessories to stack up for free for the R8 when the opportunity arises ;)
      For the 28-70/2, I got it with an EOS R barely used for 3000$ Re-sold the R for 1200$, so it only cost me 1800$ in total.
      Then I also got an almost new R6 for 1300$, the 800/11 for 600$ and the R7 for 1100$, all three camera bodies with less than 10k shutter actuations.

    • @TMVVisualMedia
      @TMVVisualMedia  Рік тому +2

      Thats pretty impressive.
      Where does the R8 fit in your collection. I think I would only be interested in setting it up at my command station and leave it static forever.

    • @p_adam19
      @p_adam19 Рік тому +1

      @@TMVVisualMedia As I said, it can actually serve many different purposes, I can count three different uses already:
      a) I have amassed a nice collection of Canon LTM rangefinder lenses still sitting in my cupboard (sadly), a few of which are really tiny and there is actually a rather notable weight difference between an RP and an R6 when I walk with just a camera in my hand. It would be perfect for that, since the RP can't shoot silently, while the R8 will do it very well.
      b) I have re-bought an 800/11 to shoot some birds or the moon, maybe planes, etc. and I also see a few deals on the 600/11 that would help me decide which one is more useful (or both.) One limitation with these f/11 lenses is that he focusing area is quite crammed in the center.
      Not anymore! The AF system in the newest cameras like the R3, R6 Mark II and now the R8 have a notably increased focusing area.
      And again, the usable electronic shutter is very useful to eliminate shutter shake at these long focal lengths and it does not have the jello of the R7 which I might just flip for now.
      c) Canon's IBIS is known to have wobble with wide-angle lenses. Having an R8 to use with just lens stabilisation solves it. So, needless to say, I am hoping to pick up a good deal on the 14-35/4 or a 15-35/2.8 as well.
      d) I am just adding it because of what you wrote, also perfect for shooting videos or timelapses on a tripod :)
      In the distant future I might see myself with just two bodies: an R8 and either an R5II or an R3 - knowing myself I probably go for a used R3 first, as I can't use the same batteries anyway :)

    I had the RP and traded it in for the R6 Mark II and don’t regret it for a second. I am not a professional but an enthusiast and I love the features and build of the R6. This camera takes beautiful pictures. Now if I could just get an affordable long range Lens it would be nice.

    • @TMVVisualMedia
      @TMVVisualMedia  Рік тому +1

      That's a massive upgrade! Congrats.
      I have to the 24-105 variable aperture lens and the 100-400 variable zoom. Both are affordable in my opinion. But I outgrew the lenses rather quickly. Mostly because of the variable zoom and they were not very sharp once they zoomed into the longest focal length.
      Those are the limitations. I traded in my 100-400 for a 70-200. I had to add my kidney in the trade though, haha. Jk. It was expensive though. But I don't regret the purchase. Once you have an L series lens on your R6 you will know what I mean.
      Camera gear is very expensive.
      Thanks for your comment!

  • @hodghe
    @hodghe Рік тому +2

    The headline is a bit misleading unfortunately. I would like to add something. I think no professional photographer would even consider R8 as an A camera. The R5 or R3 are the ones. My experience is that I bought the M50 mark II and spent a little more money on lenses with stabilisation (70-200mm f2.8 ii for example). It’s just a matter of training to get your hands still while taking pictures. I see people dropping their jaws after I show them what I can produce with a camera for only $600. When I say camera I see taking pictures rather than pretending to be Tiktok or whatever influencer. Yes videographers will be struggling but so what. There are another options. Battery has a lower capacity… no problem, I will buy extra ones and never run out. It takes few seconds to change and you are good to go. Classic m50 situation. It never bothered me. I can still do 1000 pictures and I am halfway through the battery. The R8 looks great. I watched almost every video available about the R8 and most people mention the lack of IBIS. Some even say it’s and advantage. My conclusion is that if you are an occasional photographer who wants to shoot some memories and post them online the R8 is fantastic. With a budget of $4-5k, let’s say, you get telephoto and wide angle L lenses from Canon and that is all you need.

      For any sort of paid work, I would recommend the R7. The R7 has more pro level features that are needed for paid work. Dual card slots, ibis and a few other key elements.
      As for the battery life, the R8 had very small batteries and of youre recording in 4k It would last roughly an hour to two hours of continuous recording. I own another camera that uses the same batteries and they do not last very long. I can't several spares.
      The R7 has the larger batteries that last mush longer. Battery life is tricky because it's all depending on peoples shooting styles and mode preferences.
      I would not recommend the R8 for paid gigs.

      Thanks so much for the question!
      As far as the sensor goes it is exactly the same as the one in the R6 mark II. That fact is very important and impressive.
      In terms of Astro photography I think the R8 would be plenty capable. Its going to be a beast of a little camera.
      My biggest concern would be the battery life. Its my understanding that in Astro photography you can spend all night outside waiting for the perfect conditions. But a few extra batteries should solve that. I have another camera that use the same batteries as the R8 and anytime I use that system I pack 3 extra batteries and that only gets me through half the day.

I also have an M50 and enjoy the small size, especially when compared to my 1dxm2. You said there is no mechanical shutter? All the things you said are a deal braker for you are no loss to me. I think I would prefer to save the $1k and get me another lens with the extra money. That is incredible and I think reviewers don't mention this enough in comparison videos. IBIS is overrated in my opinion, I'm pretty sure many hobby photographers won't be able to tell if the camera they are holding has it or not while shooting stills. I think they did an amazing job with the R8 scrapping all the luxury features that only professionals and youtubers use. The R8 isn't for professionals, it fills the gap many of us hobbyists waited years for. If you're not planning on doing heavy video work, the R8 is for you.

    I am point and shot guy using Sony RX100 v for the last few years, but low light performance is not that good. I want compact set up with small camera and lens. I was thinking about Canon R8 with 24mm f1.8 RF lens with IS. I do 50/50 stills and videos of family events for fun, and I am not sure about focus speed of that lens during making videos. Don't want to spend over 2K and end up with unhappy system, and will not purchase one kilo lens.
    Another option for me would be rumored Sony A7c ii, but I am not to crazy about Sony colors which improved lately from what I hear. I do videos with ninja walking without gimbal. I don't have a problem purchasing gimbal in the future for some main events, but not interested to carry it everywhere.

      The 24mm is the one stm lens that I don't own. I do however own all the rest budget friendly primes.
      I have also used them for both video and stills. I believe them to be excellent for everything for the price. My favorite is the 35mm budget prime. It's on my camera the most for everyday day carry kit.
      FYI the 35mm and the 24mm have the same body. The only reason I haven't bought the 24mm is because I have that focal length covered with several of my L series lens.
      I have to say respectfully that unless you are a high level pro its very unlikely that you will notice auti focus problems on any camera system above 1000 dollars across any brand, particularly Canon. They are leagues ahead of the competitor. They are also very expensive.
      If you still have doubts about the lens I would recommend renting it from a local shop. But I absolutely love all my prime STM lenses.
      Consider looking through my social media. I add images and video daily. I also add the lens and camera body I'm using for every image in the description.

    Questions!! Truly how necessary is IBIS for recording video if I purchase a gimbal? Also, do you have a gimbal recommendation?
    And lastly, how much of an ACTUAL impact do you see on a photo that has mechanical shutter to open/close vs the Electric open then mechanical close that the R8/R10 have.

    • @TMVVisualMedia
      @TMVVisualMedia  Рік тому +4

      For professional video recording you will need steady footage. Even pros that have ibis and have a gimbal plus a stabilized lens use professional editing software to create steady footage.
      So to answer the ibis question in regards to video. The answer is: critically important
      A way to mitigate the lack of IBIS is to use a lens that has stabilization. There are plenty of affordable lenses that have this feature.
      If you use a gimbal you will be able to produce some great looking video but a gimbal isn't an end all be all. There is still some great skill required to use a gimbal and use it correctly. It can be a hassle to use a gimbal if you don't know how to use it.
      I own two gimbal's and the brand I like is called DJI. I have a cheaper one for light weight rig and a more expensive one for a heavier set up. Actually I have a third one but it's for cell phones.
      For your last question, I believe that only pro level photographer will notice the difference between a mechanical shutter and an electronic one. I did notice once when I was using an on body flash that there was bending in my image. I believe it was caused by my shutter speed not fast enough or slow enough. It was a combo of problems. Bit I resolved it by tweaking my setting. Its important to test your gear before going to a paid gig. Lesson learned for me.

      Hope my query is clear now.

    • @TMVVisualMedia
      @TMVVisualMedia  Рік тому +1

      Yes much clearer now. Thanks!
      The difference between 20.1 and 24.1 is negligible in my opinion. Especially when it comes to cropping. The naked eye wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless you are cropping heavy. Like 400 percent.
      A much noticeable difference would be between the R5 with 45mp vs 20.1 or the 24.1.
      I own both the R5 and the R6 and I prefer to use the R5 for still because I can crop just a little bit more.
      It's always best to get the shot right in camera of course but the R5 provides me a lot more flexibility.
      But I digress, the difference between the r6 mark 2 and mark 1 in terms of cropping ability is minuscule. That's actually one of the reasons I didn't upgrade my r6 to the mark 2

Maybe some UA-camrs who are serious about their craft but this camera is more for the aspiring pro photographer on a budget who rather put the bulk of their money on good glass and get a more than capable body (the R8) until they can upgrade to a higher tier body. I would respectfully disagree, I believe that very soon content on short-form platforms will need to be made on higher-quality cameras (R8 or ZV-E1).
      Back in 2006 when UA-cam was getting started the barrier to entry was very low and anyone with a camcorder could get some traction. I see the sudden surge of short-form creators who will need to find a way to differentiate themselves with higher-quality video.
      Of course, there will always be room for the cell phone creator. But in time people eventually realize the limitation of the smaller sensor size.

      It makes a world of difference to actually play and hold these expensive pieces of gear and talk to a reputable salesperson.
      I know I'm repeating myself now but full frame will always be number one in my book.

      You actually just have me an idea for this weeks video. "Before you buy the R7 or the R8 | Which is better?"
      As for the portrait question. That would really come down to the lens and not the camera. I use my R5 for portrait work and my R6 for video work. Both of them full frame and both take awesome stills. But I use my portrait lens on both cameras and the images come out amazing.
      Thanks for the questions and a video idea. Feel free to reach out through here or through Instagram. Let me know what you decide to buy. It's a big decision and it's a lot of money.

      Before you do that though, you must consider what you're asking the camera to do. 20 mins of continuous recording is a lot of processing for a long period.
