Only make honorable decisions. And only recruit honorable lords. Release everyone you best on the field of battle, and soon, based on everyone's opinion of you, you will see which lords prize honor above all else. These are the ones you can rely on, and the ones who will never defect. They will always have a perfect opinion of you, because you will always act honorably. And they'll never defect; that would be dishonorable! Really, in the long run, being a nice guy pays off in Warband.
Shaikoten Nah. Only release good personality lords(martial, upstanding, or good-natured) and capture bad personality lords(quarrelsome, calculating, debauched, or pitiless).
@@austincantswim3383 I could absolutely be wrong but I thought even releasing the bad personality lords still improved the good personality lords' opinion of you. Still, I take the late game tact of throwing the bad personality lords in jail to rot so they're less of an impact. But I mostly play mods so I'm never sure who is what personality.
The best part? A single Ladder on a Castle Wall and hundreds of sweaty warriors pushing themselves off whilst trying to breach two dudes holding them back with blunt sticks.
Zenturio Then you eventually climb the ladder and rush the archers at the bottom and 30+ archers pepper you with arrows or javelins until you die or hide.
The only way of salvation is to spec 10 in shield and carry 3 reinforced steel shield and use the force/magnetic field to attract all missiles into it.

M&B is a great example of gameplay over visuals. As a consequence, when the gameplay is good, gamers are willing to forgive any shortcomings the game may have.
this is the entire reason why people even like dwarf fortress. the game is text-based but also has Rimworld-style maps, making the graphics essentially 0.
..but gameplay isn't well-designed and therefore it's not good gameplay per se. Players started to like it, that doesn't make it good. It's very unique and riddled of bugs, which the playerbase made use of to further strengthen their gameplay.
IzeDeco Blank we talking about m&b or dwarf fortress? I’m sorry, but the gameplay of this game is great. Combat is pretty decent, battle tactics are fairly unique and work decently well and the sandbox elements are excellent.
Agree completely, also the fact that it's the only game out there that can make you feel like you're living the life of a medieval warrior/commander. And the fact that it has mod support and the best modding community out there is the cherry on the cake(the cherry might be as big as the cake in this case :D)
@@PandemoniumGameDev I agree, the mod community Is One of the largest and they have created a lot of very good mods, to historical, fantasy and even sci fi
I kinda like how unfair Warband can be. The progression too; my first playthrough I had no idea what I was doing and accidentally got a castle because there were only 20 people defending it. Then everyone hated me and I went bankrupt. Nowadays it's different. I don't go bankrupt.
Take the castle. Choose a faction that is not making war to the one you stole the castle from, go to its king and join said faction. Find (very kickly) some 150-200 levies. You're good. Even if the faction that used to hold that castle declares war to your new faction, they will probably go to castles defended by fewer troops, since the game don't consider the quality of the troops, only the numbers.
I bought this game in a clearance bin at Walmart when I was like 10, and I still play it now seven years later. 5$ for hundreds of hours of fun is quite a good deal.
This is some funny shit.. We got a guy named bill hicks replying to a guy who has Alex Jones as a profile pic... I think i've found the edge of the universe.
I was playing this and sacking cities when you were learning to tie your shoes. its crazy that after all these years new people are still getting into it.
Oh gee look at that, king Harlaus being a piece of shit. There's a site you don't see literally anytime you boot up the game. It's almost as rare as King Harlaus getting his ass kicked and being a sexist. So much for protecting Swadia Eh Harlaus? Has that guy ever won without the player character? Does anybody know?
I remember when I got traped in Tihr with barely a company strong force against something like 1500 Nord army. They waited for a few days and attacked. They came like a morning tide to my walls, climbing the ladders and firing at us with their longbows, we sent them back. They came again. and yet we still beat them. In the end, me and my company of Swadian Sergeants and a handful of Rodock Snipers killed almost the entirety of Nord army in that siege. King Harlaus was so impressed with the feat that I have achieved that he granted me a second village, which was the entire way across Swadia and got constantly raided by Not Mongols.
@@MrHat. It's kinda hard to tell now. Harlaus is a cousin of the previous Swadian king, meaning he still can be a direct descendant, it's just that his own grandfather was Dert's younger son or something.
If you dislike the shouting just train up a dozen or so peasant woman to mounted sword sisters and have them follow you as your personal protection. The constant shouting will now be replaced with the blood curdling shrieks and howls of your new loyal bodyguard unit, a feast for the ears indeed!!
Hilariously enough there is no recorded female victory shout, so if you only have female soldiers after all the dust has settled after combat the shouting is replaced with an eerie total silence as your soldiers stare blankly ahead and silently pump their fists in the air.
@@TheShadow7771 LOL Never quite had a complete female army so did not know that! I did once have a 50 strong sword sister cavalry force that was a lot of fun. Not quite Swadian levels but cheaper and eaisier to replace. From memory they were good units!
@@abointedtoyblingofmats Just got access to the multiplayer yesterday. The movement is wankier, and so is the combat. Nevermind the bad balance and performance. If singleplayer is in the same state as multiplayer....
I remember one of my first campaigns where I got Graveth to like me so much that he started giving me pretty much every city we won(Of the 8 cities controlled by the Rhodoks, I owned 4 of them) So I declared myself a king, as you do. Then in the war against graveth, he immediately made peace because he liked me so much. Even after I took away half his kingdom I still had like 50 reputation with him. That was the campaign that made me love warband.
There is one way to have a lot of happy vassals without constant feasts: Having high honor in the endgame! This worked great for me during my runs. The higher your honor rating is, the higher your reputation is with the *right* lords. This reputation caps out at 100, of course -- but if your honor rating is high enough, IT STAYS THERE! (I think this is because the actual reputation-value is higher, but it maxes out visually at 100). This means you can give fiefs to lords as you please, strategically, without worrying about all your other vassals bitching about someone having a bigger slice of the cake. First I thought it was a glitch, but I think it's a way the game rewards you for being good. I like it. It reinforces the roleplay-aspect that good people will follow you to Hell, if you prove through your actions that you are the "best" choice for the people of Calradia. CONS: -No raiding random villages, attacking peasants and caravans, general assholery -No ransoming Lords - always let them go after a battle (You can still do these in moderation, but it affects your honor rating). Quick ways of getting honor: - Training/saving villages from bandits, and decline reward - Letting lords go after a battle - Rescuing Lords -- You can rescue imprisoned lords in ANY un-allied castle/town. Great if you're passing by one at night. These can easily be done in passing, while you're following whatever main objective. Once you see those 100's in reputation, you know you have your future vassals. This is definitely only handy, if you're playing a "good"/pragmatic character, but I couldn't get myself to do "evil" ruler-runs, once I discovered this. The endgame die-hard loyal vassals are simply too OP. But what about all the looting-money lost in this!? Human trafficking of NON-lords, of course. Nothing morally wrong with that. Want more money? Bounties, is the answer. There's crazy early game money, xp, and renown in tracking down bandit parties and lairs - if you know where to find them! ;) Know it's a long comment. No one will probably read this haha. But I didn't see this mentioned ANYWHERE, so might as well write it here.
I read it. Honestly I never really figured out how to trigger prison rescues... either way, good to know. (I never actually could bring myself to raid random villages/caravans unless I was seriously desperate anyways. I know they're not real, or even fleshed out in any way, but the thought of marauding through random peasant houses when they're just trying to survive in such a hellscape almost always stopped me, regardless of the rewards.) Still sold enemy soldiers into slavery though. There's absolutely no moral conundrums there!
Raiding isn't that great any way. Its much easier to just get businesses in most towns and play slowly, passively making more money than you can use without the risk, tedium, and honor loss from raiding. Using this strategy I would only raid once or twice to pay for initial businesses but it's not really nessecary. The fact that you get "locked" into raiding and can't move until you're done while the AI can run away on the world map really tilts me too.
Tournaments. Bet on yourself in every round and if you win(which any halfway decent player should) you'll get roughly 40k per. Easiest way to become the richest man in Calradia
@@aarynminyard5325 4k, you'll get around 4k per tournament, not 40k. (3980 from bets and 200 from the tournament itself and the bet money will go down if you win too many tournaments, since you're the crowd favorite at that point.)
@@Daredhnu nah, I've regularly gotten 39,800 from betting 1k on myself every round of the tournament. It's how I made all my money before I could start taking fiefs. Though for the past couple months I've been using the Fires of Calradia mod so maybe that changes it.
I raided villages a few times in my first game and haven't done it since throughout dozens of games and many mods. Always just hunt bandits for loot and prisoners. Usually just solo for a couple of in game weeks because that's how you get the most and best loot. As soon as you hire someone it gets split.
@@raifthemad My man! That's the way to do it! Though I still find it wise to hire Klethi, you can bump up her looting to make up for the share you lose, and with her, half the sea raiders go towards her instead of you. Very helpful in kill the bowmen before they start shooting at you. That way you don't have to ride around in a circle forever to waste all their ammo. If you get her on a horse she can even help out in the fight sometimes. You gotta get her armor though before she can do much good.
no other game could make you an exiled marshal due to starting a civil war who slowly regains power by fighting a guerilla war in the mountains and then slowly takes over the faction then the world
Multiplayer skill curve was supreme, from siege to team deathmatch to dueling.. it has it all. Relatively easy to learn, hard to master (feinting, holds, well timed chambers..). The singleplayer experience was great and mods opened it up quite a bit, but the competitive aspect of the game is wildly underappreciated, even to its own niche followers.
I actually think multiplayer in this game is, in a sense, a more accurate representation of medieval combat than the base game. Not in regards of the base mechanics, but the skill of the players involved. The skill of the players on the server usually follows a normal distribution curve. You can run into anyone from a guy who barely just started and has no idea what he is doing, to someone who at least understands the mechanics and maybe some of the easier tricks, to people who will massacre anyone in seconds without any chance of retaliation. Kinda like actual medieval combat, the person you run into on the battlefield may be a peasant who was handed a spear and told to go in the general direction of the enemy, or an armoured knight who was trained for this his whole life, but you need all of them to actually succeed (this is also the reason why I almost exclusively play Siege in multiplayer. The others just aren't that fun to me if you aren't a master at multiplayer combat).
Lorenzo Von Matterhorn I started out watching gameplay from both TW and M&B I still go back to some of the glory day videos and relive it, those were damn good times
@@genericname7502 just decided last week to buy Bannerlord as my first MnB over buying 3 kingdoms Total war. The grit of being a solider is what I wanted to play. Playing as a non mounted infantry is very tense in pitch battles.
I bought Mount and Blade in 2006. The thought that a married couple in Turkey were this tiny, independent "software house" working on a game with such massive scope absolutely was something worth supporting, and it's tremendous to see how well they've done over the years!
Just finished my last run on warband, signing up to defend swadia and them betraying them after a long and drawn out campaign to be a king of my own kingdom. After so many hours, so many mods and so many stories, it felt really weird to know that I was saying goodbye to jeremus, Lezalit, Rolf and the whole gang. I think I paid like 10 bucks for this game a lifetime ago. Talk about value. I'm quite sure I'm going to really enjoy bannerlord, and that I'm going to play the hell out of the warband remake that people are going to build in it twenty minutes after the game is released, but boy, will I miss sharing butter with Harlaus and hunting sea raiders on the original game.
Pendor is basically the sequel to warband. So good, so complete. It really destroys almost every complaint made in this video like battle continuation, always outgearing everything, poor late game challenges, and so forth, while adding so much content.
@@jidk6565 I like Persino as well but I think it has the opposite problems. Too many High armor High skill units, the army sizes are too big and you can't outgear enemies at all. It is fun to run around in but way too hard to conquer the world. I will say the Zann invasion is the single coolest thing in a Warband game.
I recently explained warband to a friend of mine by saying "it's ugly, it's slow, it's janky as hell, it can be brutally unfair... But God damnit I love every second of it"
I don't love it when I take an arrow to the knee during a siege, knocking me unconscious, and my army decides to withdraw instead of killing the last ten defenders
The only other game that people react to in the same way is with osrs (Old School Runescape). Yet it's one of the most active MMORPGs today. It's hard to explain, but both games allow you to immerse and invest into the character that you created and progress exactly how you see fit. It's much much deeper than that but words can't really pin point it when it's truly an experience to be had.
@@LegacyProduction2013 Ah yes, osrs, I /still/ years later, find myself returning to runescape, mostly for nostalgia reason.. My character has most of the quests done, millions in the bank, A huge mansion and most of the skills I care about at 99, and yet.. I still get on lol. I think one of my favorite interactions that I still remember, to this day, in like 07, I was a low level noob, in the desert mine, with shit gear, shit everything.. and some uber high levels (to my thinking, though they where like maybe 10-20 levels higher) came in, had a chat.. gave me a bunch of gear and basically set me up. When asked later (I still have them in my friends list, and I've ran into them on rs a few times over the years) They said "hey, we where bored, figured we'd help out a noob. But man, It felt awesome. I think because of those two, there is a reason when I log in, I smith up some iron or steel armor, sit in lumby, and hand out full sets.. literally just to pay it forward, (I get it, most players are vets by now, and are just redoing a character, but if there is even one there that is brand new, I hope even a small leg up, is appreciated) Anyway, I have about 4000 hours into Mount and blade over 11 ish years. (If you include one, as well, pre-steam) so I'd say it's good.
When I was a beginner i almost every time attacked villagers and didnt understand why I was slained by those huge armies... But when I started learining english and understand that epic line about the harvesting season i always felt sorry for them and let them go🥺 so many good memories...
For those interested in replaying a little bit of Warband before Bannerlord comes out i recommend the "BannerPage" native ovheraul mod. It came out a few weeks ago and it has as much content as Floris, if not more.
the rhodoks get a 'swiss guardsman' as an elite unit, the fuck's a swiss? the huntress troop tree has them wearing chainmail bikini crotch cloth armour It's got tons of stupid shit in it while simultaneously touts itself as 'the definitive experience'. And the author's apparently a dick, though I can't confirm that myself. Just play diplomacy or something.
Mount&Blade: Warband is more than a game. Mount&Blade: Warband taught us to use steam and thus finished pirate in Turkey. Steam started to sell games in turkish liras, developers saw the potential and started to add turkish language for their games, video game producing is raised in Turkey etc.
What a treat, a retrospective on M&B!! Your problem with lowly crossbowmen killing your noble, highly trained and experienced warrior with the best equipment in a couple of shots is literally why they were actually dispised in the real history by actual nobles and the crossbow was considered an evil weapon. Extra historic kudos for this awsome game. An all time favourite of mine. Excelent vid, as usual. Cheers!
I don't think I've played a game that gave me more retroactive nostalgia than Warband. No matter when you first played it, it just has this classic charm to it. On top of that, it's completely one of a kind with its ideas in a big way. Rare to see both of those things in the same game.
I can still remember the moment i was on the receiving end of a cavalry charge from Swadia. It basically solidified my love for the game, because we got rekt so fast i didnt even have time to issue a retreat command
25:25 whilst I understand your annoyance, this is actually realistic. Knights hated longbows & crossbows because with them a peasant could harm a noble. Which is clearly against the natural order of things, right? Edit: I paused to write this. Should have watched 10 secs longer.
@@fanaticpharaoh6689 And this is why it is problematic that a shooting match to start the siege is the best tactic for the attacker. The attacker should be wanting to get up the walls as soon as possible.
False. Crossbows and longbows could harm knights back when they used chainmail, NOT plate armour. The french got fucked against the brittish longbowmen in the battle of Agincourt because their horses were shot, plus there was a lot of mud, and the vast majority of knights didn't die, but were captured. And that's the reason that battle became so famous, because it was incredibly rare for knights to lose so decisively. They especially hated crossbows not because of their power (the strongest crossbows are far weaker than average longbows), but because literally everyone with no training could use them. With bows, and especially longbows, you needed years of training to develop the muscles required.
Crossbows somewhat annoyed armored knights? Homie, the papacy straight up banned them during the middle-ages because the Genoese mercenaries were going around merking important feudal lords and nobility.
The limit cap is actually 2000 if I recall. You just need to edit the ini file. It's literally a single value. Something along the lines of changing "unit cap=150" to "unit cap = 2000".
"The chaos, the shouting, the hails of arrows, the cavalry charges, the shouting, the sounds of swords on steel and flesh, the shouting and 1:31 " LMAO! You made my day right there dude, thank you! :D
M&B inspires me. I love the early-game, where you have a smallish agile army, and have to pick and choose your fights. I find it bogs down when you've got a castle or a town or two which need garrisoning and your role changes from Das Boot But On Horseback to recruiting sergeant. The divide between PC and NPC bothers me. NPC lords don't spend their time traipsing between villages looking for recruits. I'd like a game with a better-realised system for growing your warband: one used by the PC and NPC, that's open to interdiction (weaken your enemies by stopping them reinforcing), and which the PC can delegate to an NPC lieutenant.
For me, the best part of Warband was the multiplayer. I sunk COUNTLESS hours into mods like Full Invasion 2, Persistent World, Bear Force II, Whigs and Tories, North and South, as well as the Napoleonic Wars DLC. It doesn't like to run at a suitable framerate on my newer hardware so I haven't been able to play it, which is saddening. Thinking back to all those memories just makes me even more excited for Bannerlord, and the next ten years of Mount & Blade.
What was crazy for me when i started the game was not only the scale of the battle, but the fact that npcs looked different. Having different people with different faces and armors gave me the feeling that they were real, i cant really explain it well. I used to spend a lot of time just looking at 1 single soldier in a battle. Also the music is embedded in my brain forever.
As an Italian, I suspect the Rhodoks are close to the Genoese due to their weapon choice: crossbows. We were renewed mercenaries and used Pavese shields (the tall shields the Rhodoks use, even if they were places on the ground during battle) in combo with pickaxes, blunt weapons and crossbows. So, yes, I always loved recruiting a mixture of them, the Swadians (who are close to Occitanian France) and the Nords.
@@goodcomrade2949 like most factions in the game, they are usually blends of similar cultures; only the developers can tell all the conscious and unconscious choices who led them to give each one of the kingdoms their arsenal and identity. I see the Genoese crossbowmen in the Rhodocks, but maybe it's just one of the many inspiration for the faction :)
Kinghood of Mousekind- Yeah, I always thought of Rhodoks as being an amalgamation of armies from around the Alps: the Italian city states and the Swiss ex: Milan, Genoa, Florence
The player: instrumental in attacking and taking Sargoth, killing hundreds of enemies and deploying smart tactics King Harlaus: King Harlaus has decided to confer the city of Sargoth to King Harlaus
A lame reason is that the character has some level of controversy, plus late game kingdoms nobility falls apart, ie, towns go to a few guys, making them weak to kingdoms with strong nobility.
Aaah yes. Afterwards defending it only with your company of men waiting for the decision for it to go either into your own hands or someone else's so you can finally leave knowing there's a garrison. All this while standing behind merlon and spamming overhead swing with bastard sword.
I just started my first campaign with a female character and so far it has been super frustrating. I have already saved several nobles asses from being wiped out and taken entire cities with little help, but STILL I have so little influence as a vassal (Not to mention how hard it was to even be accepted as a vassal in the first place.) This being said, when I have had my exploits recognized it has been that much sweeter! Every battle won against some character that had previously slandered my characters womanly-ness was that much more glorious. So, even if the cards are stacked against female characters I would say that the game as a whole is more satisfying!
The advantage of being female is that you earn renown far more quickly. Instead of making yourself a vassal so quickly, you should farm bandits, raiders, deserters and tourneys for renown.
I remember playing this game(prophesy of pendor mod actually) so late into the night and actually forgetting to sleep. Without doubt one of the best games on pc.
I love the shouting. I love the feeling of charging through the ranks. Wining the melees and jousting. I wont forget the first time i saw a horse running alone in the middle of the battlefield with an arrow in the eye. Epic.
Mount & Blade Warband is one of my favorite games ever made and one of the games that got me into PC gaming. It may be flawed but here i am 8 years been playing this game on and off and talking with friends that i made from the community.
5:15 gender choice only became available after A LOT of discussion on the forums. People wanted to play as women but the developers were initially against it due to historical realism. Eventually they caved and we got what we have today.
@The505Guys Who said it was a first choice? Even if it was, why does it matter? If male was the only option, why would women want to play the game? Your point is very odd here... Playing as a woman provides a different experience, and many would do so for that alone. Also, you seem very adamant about your aversion to playing as a woman. Are you trying to prove something?
@The505Guys I mentioned the whole first choice thing because of your comment, which mentioned it being a first choice. The point I was addressing was that men shouldn't want to play a game as a woman. It doesn't make sense. I don't avoid a bunch of video games for having player characters that are white, not australian, or in some cases not even human. I'm perfectly fine with playing as a character who is unlike me, especially if it will provide a unique experience. My point also stands for george, who you were replying to (he seems to have the same opinion).
Warband with max soldiers on battlefield scaled up is a very, very, cool experience. It even allows you to move regiments of archers, infantry, et cetera around, like you're playing a Total War game except you're a person on the battlefield.
I have over 1.5K+ hours in Mount and Blade Warband. Thank you for making this video! It was informative, kind, and well thought out. I'm a part of the NW community and have been for 5 years now. I was a part of the FH and their Zombie server along with Appleorgasm's Zombie Server too. I've seen many regiments and people come and go from this community. It's sad knowing that the DLC community is dying out but perhaps Bannerlord will bring a slew of new players and ways to play. We, as a collective community, hope that Bannerlord takes us to new horizons and brings the modding community to more creative ways of creating new experiences too. Warband is amazing and I picked it up at a local book shop. Little did I know that I was going to be here this long satisfied. Thanks again, Lord Aperion.
i cant explain when i first played mount and blade the feeling i got. That first day i went to sleep 6 am cause i completely lost track of time. Few games whithout any story can do this.
18:11 Not quite, companions are never as effective as you can be when it comes to Party Skills because the player character has a innate bonus. For instance if Jeremus has 10 points in surgery than your party has a 65% chance of not losing soldiers. But if **you** have 10 points in surgery than the party has a 81% chance of not losing soldiers. So there **is** a downside in letting your companions handle every party skill.
OG Mount & Blade back in 2008 *BLEW MY FUCKING MIND* as a kid (12 at a time) The variety, sword fighting, HORSE RIDING! Shit! I spend so much time in this game.
Mount&Blade: Warband conquered our hearts. This game will never die. I will play it with joy to the end of my life. Every new game is a new story. This game is a CLASSIC!
I like to share one of my memories from like 8 years ago, I was like in school grade 6 or 7, I was playing Stronghold 2 which is also a strategic lovely game from 2005, one I came back from school and my brother surprised me by a new game Mount & Blade Warband, I was the happiest boy in the world and I started playing it. At that time I couldn't understand how the story mode works and I quickly left playing Mount & Blade after a month or so. About 6 years later while searching my old laptop I faced Mount and Blade once again I played it for about 2 years and I still have the game, now I have my own empire and I have wife as well😆😂🤦♂️. I will always love my brother for his lovely gift (mount and blade).
"Why couldn't reviewers understand it's appeal?" Because game reviewers have smol brain. If it doesn't look and feel like either a triple A game or a pixel art indie game it gets shit on.
One thing you overlooked is how in vanilla you can just make friends with a prominent wife and pay her to make lords like you up too +2 Which means your infinite money has a purpose, that being that it can make it so no lords dislike you.
Viking Conquest is still, the best Medievel England experience since Lords of The Realm. Start small, serve a lord, buy a boat, became rich trading goods between countries, build a arny, conquest a smal irish castle, steamroll the whole Island. There is no other game in the market that provide this, with a very stable battlefield experiece, other than Warband.
Your retrospectives were always great but man they just keep getting better and better, and your channel growth seems to be reflecting your efforts. Happy for you and happy we keep getting this awesome content!
Warband will always hold a special place in my heart. Can count on one hand the number of games which managed to grip my attention so intensely. I remember running home from high school to continue my hero’s journey
I just loved making it up to the point of having like 50 heavy cavalry, you could beat any army in the field if the terrain cooperated enough to give you an angle to charge.
I used to play this game a lot in college. I stopped playing it for some or the other reasons. About an year ago, I tried playing it again, and got so focused, that I forgot to sleep. I looked at the time, expecting it to be around 1 or 2 am at worst. It was 6. I haven't played the game since. Too dangerous.

I remember reading years ago, when the first Mount and Blade came out that the devs had been heavily influenced by the Historical fiction literature of Bernard Cornwell, and at the time he was my favorite author which is I figured is why i clicked with this series. Always makes me happy to see how popular it became.
I only ever played warband vanilla on console and logged 1300 hours, for all the games flaws the things it got right outshined them so much, hopefully this series continues, it really is a diamond in the rough
I play this regularly on console to this day. It's a bit more difficult with a controller in some aspects. The battles have a lower population cap which is curbed with reglar reinforcements if available as your men fall below certain numbers. Those flaws aside, it's by far the best and only game that's provided this experience for me on console and pc. One of the best games ever created.
Bannerlord is going to be amazing.. eventually. It touts amazing modding capabilities on its own custom built engine. If we don't love it, and the devs don't fix it by its final release, the modders will. Most of the Warband's shortcomings are 'fixed' by the mod BannerPage, a newly release mod generally considered to be a definitive addition. "Less talking, more raiding"
An excellent analysis. Warband was a powerful experience - simulation as opposed to emulation to provide true freedom of choice. Two things I'd like to add: - My favorite aspect of the progression system is that weapon use increases weapon skills, with more skill being gained on more powerful hits. A full speed horse charge with a sword swing in the forward direction is not only immensely powerful, capable of penetrating armor which a regular swing wouldn't even dent, but also leads to a huge proficiency increase. In the case of archery the system is perhaps even more interesting as a long-range headshot can increase your archery so vastly that your next shot is noticeably more accurate and drawn more quickly - almost as if the player character has relished in his accomplishment and gained confidence. So the player's skill determines the player character's skill in the long run. On top of that, the exact same system is used for companions. A few good charges will teach them to use their melee weapons more effectively, while archery can be trained by presenting them a thick horde of bandits as targets while kiting them across the map. Marvelous experience. - Most modern players of the game use the battle size increaser, which synergizes with faster PC hardware. The criticism against late-game unit numbers is in my opinion not an issue anymore, notably because good units are spawned first. The backup waves are then just peasants running into your ranks, kind of like they're patriotically going down with the ship (castle), just to give the player a glimpse of wartime atrocities.
The main story and the main goal is actually for the player to unite Calradia practically says so in the intro. It doesn't matter how the player gets there he (emphasis on he lol) it just matters that he gets there, unites the land, and brings peace to this chaotic time.
We love the learning curve on this game. That's why most people keep coming back. The "what if i do this or that" and of course because we were salty about those sea raiders.
The best part of Warband that REALLY kept it alive for so long: the incredible mods and extensive mod support. Seriously some of the mods for Warband are breathtaking in their scope and passion.

CONS:
-No raiding random villages, attacking peasants and caravans, general assholery
-No ransoming Lords - always let them go after a battle
(You can still do these in moderation, but it affects your honor rating).
Quick ways of getting honor:
- Training/saving villages from bandits, and decline reward
- Letting lords go after a battle
- Rescuing Lords -- You can rescue imprisoned lords in ANY un-allied castle/town.
There's crazy early game money, xp, and renown in tracking down bandit parties and lairs - if you know where to find them! ;)
Know it's a long comment.
I know they're not real, or even fleshed out in any way, but the thought of marauding through random peasant houses when they're just trying to survive in such a hellscape almost always stopped me, regardless of the rewards.)
Still sold enemy soldiers into slavery though.

@@tomhill3248 No, he mentioned it Very briefly as the start of his discussion on progression.

25:25 whilst I understand your annoyance, this is actually realistic. Knights hated longbows & crossbows because with them a peasant could harm a noble. Which is clearly against the natural order of things, right?
Edit: I paused to write this. Should have watched 10 secs longer.
You are right though, The attacker is always at a disadvantage and the strength of ranged firepower reflects that.
Bannerlord U can buil Walls
Yeah and that's why the common guy Bunduk uses crossbow to spill the "blue blood" of the lords.

Crossbows somewhat annoyed armored knights? Homie, the papacy straight up banned them during the middle-ages because the Genoese mercenaries were going around merking important feudal lords and nobility.

You're gonna love bannerlord cos iy has all that and more

For me, the best part of Warband was the multiplayer. It doesn't like to run at a suitable framerate on my newer hardware so I haven't been able to play it, which is saddening. Thinking back to all those memories just makes me even more excited for Bannerlord, and the next ten years of Mount & Blade.
Pooch u probably know this but Napoleonic wars started as a mod which makes it even better imo
I thought the rodocks where like bohemia
200 ore nel gioco e solo adesso mi sono reso conto che i Rhodok sono semplicemente i mercenari pavesi con balestra di medieval 2
To be fair, all the factions are generalized stereotypes.
Love this so much especially since the quarantine.
The player: instrumental in attacking and taking Sargoth, killing hundreds of enemies and deploying smart tactics
King Harlaus: King Harlaus has decided to confer the city of Sargoth to King Harlaus
Ah yes historically acurrate
I remember playing this game(prophesy of pendor mod actually) so late into the night and actually forgetting to sleep.
Without doubt one of the best games on pc.
I love the shouting. I love the feeling of charging through the ranks. Wining the melees and jousting. I wont forget the first time i saw a horse running alone in the middle of the battlefield with an arrow in the eye. Epic.
IT'S ALMOST HARVESTING SEASON!!!!
Edit: holy crap thanks everyone I didn't think I would get these many likes in just a few days.
Soon brother.
I VILL DRINK FROM UR SKULL
that is not a lot
@@Lopata991 shhh. Just let a boi have his joy.
Just take the likes silently, why do people feel the need to taint their comments with "wowww thanks!!!"
Mount & Blade Warband is one of my favorite games ever made and one of the games that got me into PC gaming. It may be flawed but here i am 8 years been playing this game on and off and talking with friends that i made from the community.
"You'll be mowing down men with precision. And it will be feeling good."
Oh, yes. It does....
5:15 gender choice only became available after A LOT of discussion on the forums.
People wanted to play as women but the developers were initially against it due to historical realism.
Eventually they caved and we got what we have today.
Chafe I never once played a female. Goddam weirdos lol
I feel like you SHOULD be able to play as a woman but you would be at a disadvantage
Such a big part of my childhood. An truly outstanding experience that will go down as one of my favorite game of all time.
So there **is** a downside in letting your companions handle every party skill.
wait... WHAT?
@@ranyag5274 Yep, look it up :)
OG Mount & Blade back in 2008 *BLEW MY FUCKING MIND* as a kid (12 at a time)
The variety, sword fighting, HORSE RIDING!
Shit! I spend so much time in this game.
I just hit 4k hours on Warband and just now you tell me it has singleplayer?!
Mount&Blade: Warband conquered our hearts. This game will never die. I will play it with joy to the end of my life. Every new game is a new story. This game is a CLASSIC!
You magnificent bastard.
I have no other words than that.
Well, besides that that's a nice head you have on your shoulders.
They probably make their reviews after watching a few gameplay videos and playing it for 5 mins.
It got a fucking 78! That's 8 out of 10!
One thing you overlooked is how in vanilla you can just make friends with a prominent wife and pay her to make lords like you up too +2
Which means your infinite money has a purpose, that being that it can make it so no lords dislike you.
Me: we can take Veluca easily just help me!
King haralus: ok I’ll follow you!
1/2 day later: king haralus goes back to praven
Me: ;-;
Warband will always hold a special place in my heart.
The Floris expanded mod is a must for this game, battles continue after you get knocked out, new units, new gear, so much better!
Without a doubt, some of the best analysis I've seen on this game. Congratulations, very complete.
"I wanna have a word with your personal belongings..."
"You have 1 fit for battle against the enemys 12"
You got 268 denars
Gained 10 renown
Got 125 experience
Shared 125 experience to rest of party
Advanced to level 30!
Well said friend. Love this game, been playing for more than 10 years. God bless :)
How dare you not mention the mightiest weapon of all: BOOT!
I remember reading years ago, when the first Mount and Blade came out that the devs had been heavily influenced by the Historical fiction literature of Bernard Cornwell, and at the time he was my favorite author which is I figured is why i clicked with this series. Always makes me happy to see how popular it became.
Judging the voice of the presenter I couldn't imagine him shouting. So any amount of shouting seems excessive.
I only ever played warband vanilla on console and logged 1300 hours, for all the games flaws the things it got right outshined them so much, hopefully this series continues, it really is a diamond in the rough
Over 700 hours in this and still counting
I play this regularly on console to this day. It's a bit more difficult with a controller in some aspects. The battles have a lower population cap which is curbed with reglar reinforcements if available as your men fall below certain numbers. Those flaws aside, it's by far the best and only game that's provided this experience for me on console and pc. One of the best games ever created.
[excessive shouting] Bannerlord
Bannerlord is going to be amazing.. eventually.
It touts amazing modding capabilities on its own custom built engine. If we don't love it, and the devs don't fix it by its final release, the modders will.
Most of the Warband's shortcomings are 'fixed' by the mod BannerPage, a newly release mod generally considered to be a definitive addition.
"Less talking, more raiding"
I need this. Isolation is slowly driving me insane. Thanks
An excellent analysis. Warband was a powerful experience - simulation as opposed to emulation to provide true freedom of choice. Two things I'd like to add:
- My favorite aspect of the progression system is that weapon use increases weapon skills, with more skill being gained on more powerful hits.
The backup waves are then just peasants running into your ranks, kind of like they're patriotically going down with the ship (castle), just to give the player a glimpse of wartime atrocities.
i've played so much of this game that i know the locations in the game better than i know locations in the area irl
The main story and the main goal is actually for the player to unite Calradia practically says so in the intro. It doesn't matter how the player gets there he (emphasis on he lol) it just matters that he gets there, unites the land, and brings peace to this chaotic time.
i spent 20 hours to build a bodyguard of 50 women warriors
and it was worth every minute
We love the learning curve on this game. That's why most people keep coming back. The "what if i do this or that" and of course because we were salty about those sea raiders.
Watching 10 minutes of this is making me want to play it again.... Bye :)
The best part of Warband that REALLY kept it alive for so long: the incredible mods and extensive mod support. Seriously some of the mods for Warband are breathtaking in their scope and passion. The Last Days of the Third Age is simply amazing, completely overhauled everything, it even has a comprehensive custom OST that sounds great. Seriously its good enough to be its own game, I would have paid full price for it by itself.
