The axe says Etir Imbued, fast forward to Ragnarok and you’ll notice the wound on Thor’s stomach hasn’t healed after Kratos hits him with it during their first fight because the All Serpent imbued its venom in the axe
@M Anggiar Mustofa Baldur was made unable to be hurt by a pact Freya made to all the things in the world which would include Eitr a primordial energy produced by serpents in Norse mythology would not hurt him, except for Mistletoe because she thought it to young to make the pact and then Loki had him stabbed by one.
In Norse Myth, Thor strikes Jormungan so hard that Jormungan’s venom is released unto Thor and eventually killed Thor. And GoW 4 nailed this detail perfectly.
3:26 “You again. Have you come to sacrifice the axe?” 3:46 “Yes, but there used to be more of you.” 4:17 “I sympathize, truly. I can help you get to Jotunheim.” 4:29 “The boy…he seems familiar to me. Like I’ve met him before.” 6:04 “It’s probably still inside. You can row in here and look yourselves, if you must.”
Blink and you miss it, but when Jormungand spits out Leviathan it says "Eitr imbued". Jormungand made the axe super venomous by imbueing it with his own venom. Venom that manages to kill Thor in the myth.
One thing that went unmentioned and unseen is Nidhogg. Where could he be? He is the Eater Beneath the Tree, The Dragon that gnaws on the roots of the World Tree and eats souls, and he is missing. That should be very concerning as that might mean he is LOOSE.
One of the many surprises in this game for me was how friendly the world serpent actually was. I could’ve sworn we were going to kill him at one point.
Carter Gates you know, even knowing all the shit kratos has killed, I don't think even he could kill a serpent that you know IS THE LONG ENOUGH TO WRAP AROUND MIDGARD
If baldur could knock out the world serpent, Kratos could defintley kill him. Also if Thor could fight with Jormungandr and have it end in a draw then Kratos has a good chance against him.
@@lucasleite694 Near the end of GOW: 2018 Freya manipulates the corpse of a giant in order to prevent Kratos and Atreus from fighting Baldur. In GOW: Ragnarok, we learn that the World Serpent was made from the soul of a giant being put into the body of a snake. Considering the Serpent hates anything remotely related to Odin, seeing Odin's ex-wife controlling the dead body of another giant probably left him pretty angry.
Yeah hes like that super old ex villain the one that has won and lost so many times and just wants to chill out for the rest of his time kick his feet up and just point the new generation in the right direction with some sage advice I can't help but that was him the whole time I saw this video so fascinating and amazing
My Heart Beats At 150 BPM I mean they're 2 different actors for 2 different roles. This one wouldn't be anywhere near as good as the old voice actor for GoW 1-3
cant believe i didnt notice that earlier. didnt watch much of stargate but he was the most recognizable character, it was because of that funny amulet on his head.
I get blown away every time I see Jörmungandr on this game. He’s perfectly made; everything about him matches what you might think is a part of his identity.
1:32 near the top right corner, it said “Eitr imbued”. Eitr is the world serpent’s poison, which according to mythology, is what killed thor. However, since kratos’s axe now has the poison imbued in it, could it be that the game is indicating that kratos will be the one to kill thor?
Yeah, the axe can kill Thor now. My theory is that Atreus(Loki) from the future has come back in time alongside Jormungadr ans has been planning everything with Faye. He is the one that call the serpent when Atreus is sick.
It is already stated that the axe is mjolnir's Equal. the serpent failed to kill thor and then thrown back in time, thats the original timeline, kratos is supposed to be the one who messed up the timeline so yeah bad news for thor.
@@cb-9938 its exactly why both modi and magni were able to be killed at all, kratos fought them after the axe got embued with eitr, so they got poisoned and were able to be killed by it, breaking the prophecy of ragnarok
after playing ragnarok i can safely say that this comment was 99% right aside from kratos actually killing thor, the leviathan axe being imbued with the eitr poison allowed kratos to land a sufficient blow on thor that could not heal, which gave him a weak spot that kratos could exploit in the final battle
So I guess Loki, Hel and Fenrir will be good guys in the sequel After all, the villain was Baldr and in the original myth Loki kills him... Unless we go again with the betraying scenario
3:25 you can hear him on your right if you`re wearing headphones, as the camera pans around to face the serpent he changes to being in both ears. such a subtle yet beautiful detail
I dunno what always stuck with me is the way kratos says, "what, is this" as if he is full of annoyance and probably at this point not even hesitant to kill or fight it, which just goes to show just how even more badass he is seeing how big the serpent is.
What’s funny is even with killing Kronos in GOW 3. I was a little hesitant Kratos would actually be able to kill something much bigger than Kronos ever was
I genuinely thought that my room was shaking when he spoke for the first time. They nailed Jörmungandr in this game. The look, the size... god even his voice is perfect
Jörmungandr is probably my favorite part of god of war, he's so cool. A giant ass snake that wraps around the entire world. I love how he has cat ears as well, it's so cute. After realizing that the serpent in Atreus' son is crazy. Jörm must've been surprised seeing his father and grandfather there in the lake. I really wanna know how Atreus is jörm's father. I envy mimir and Atreus for speaking jörm's language, I wish I could at least understand what it's saying. When baldur beat the serpent I got so scared because I thought he killed it but when he took down that giant I was so happy. I really hope jörm is in Ragnarok, it'll make my day if he is.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jormungandr is one of Loki's later familiars in Norse Mythology. Perhaps in Ragnarok, Angrboda and Atreus use magic to accidentally create Jormungandr, as well as Fenrir later on.
Fae left the note on the temple to throw the leviathan axe in the water because she knew that Jormungand would recognize it and greet them. The scene takes on a new meaning when you know that she is the one that leaves the messages.
Mimir: Well brothers, I’ve been to many strange places, but this will be a new one. Atreus: Yeah, I’ve never been in a giant’s belly either. How about you, father? Kratos: Never one that was not trying to eat me.
I just realized something. Jörmungandr is Atreus son. In the wiki, Jormungandr is Loki's kid. Thor knocked him through time, landing him onto the lake. Faye wanted to name him Loki. Neither Jormungandr nor Atreus knows they are directly related. That's how Atreus knows the language. Corretion: Jormugandr knows, but Atreus doesn't.
Neither the serpent and atreus knows that they're related at that time, canonically that's why the serpent got a bit angry when they first spoke at the temple, mimir's grammatical error made the serpent assume that they're friends of the gods, and when mimir try to calm him he just said "no they just want to pay respect to the boy's mother".. The reason he seems familiar with atreus is probably because he looked like his father which is true, but the serpent never actually curious about asking who is he, the serpent probably realized that it is his father after atreus called him when fighting with baldur.

Blink and you miss it, but when Jormungand spits out Leviathan it says "Eitr imbued". Jormungand made the axe super venomous by imbueing it with his own venom. Venom that manages to kill Thor in the myth.
Oh wow, that's what it meant. I didn't know what "Eitr" was until you pointed it out. Now we know how he's gonna defeat Thor in the sequel.
So that means xthr snake will die in the next game :(
One thing that went unmentioned and unseen is Nidhogg. Where could he be? He is the Eater Beneath the Tree, The Dragon that gnaws on the roots of the World Tree and eats souls, and he is missing. That should be very concerning as that might mean he is LOOSE.
Jordan Smith oh shit that's nice
And in the secret ending, thor comes to kill kratos because kratos killed his two sons
One of the many surprises in this game for me was how friendly the world serpent actually was. I could’ve sworn we were going to kill him at one point.
I don't think Kratos should kill his own grandson. lol
Sara J. Grandson, not son.
Carter Gates you know, even knowing all the shit kratos has killed, I don't think even he could kill a serpent that you know IS THE LONG ENOUGH TO WRAP AROUND MIDGARD
in the next sequal of the game we will have to fight the big snake because he will be controlled evil
If baldur could knock out the world serpent, Kratos could defintley kill him. Also if Thor could fight with Jormungandr and have it end in a draw then Kratos has a good chance against him.
After learning a lot more of these giants I’m betting he was pissed to see one of his brother’s used as a puppet.

@@lucasleite694 Near the end of GOW: 2018 Freya manipulates the corpse of a giant in order to prevent Kratos and Atreus from fighting Baldur.
That could be why Magni didn't come back to life? Mimir and Atreus say that they are supposed too not long after the boss Fight

Depends on the point of view doesn't it? The Midgaard worm was a foe of the norse gods but so is Kratos.
Jormungand is technically a Jotun, same as Atreus' mother
So I guess Loki, Hel and Fenrir will be good guys in the sequel
After all, the villain was Baldr and in the original myth Loki kills him...

How would you know Jörmungandr would know that? He just said Atreus looks familiar to him.
@@Astropeleki he doesn’t know it is Loki I don’t think but he would know of his father from the future
