💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Just found my factory is leaking due to the rubbing.
Glad you and Truck Master make videos on these KodiakTruck Transfer cases.
They are 150% worth it!
The tech talk video's with Mark are some of the best content to date. Dude knows his stuff!
Did mine myself. Was the first time lol. Replaced all bearings and seals and did the PPE pump upgrade. Good to go. Only terrible things I find with these cases is that dang pump rub! When he said they were putting in the upgraded pump that was one of the best things you can do lol.
I've had one of Marks tcase in my 07 Tahoe for about 2 years now. 👍
Hi,
I got a reman np246 from kodiak and have had nothing but trouble seals , bearings now another set of bearings so no more 30 weight oil . Got to use auto track fluid because its an auto 4wd.
I have thud sound that appears to be coming from somewhere around my transfer case. I replaced my slip yoke with a nickel plated yolk and it helped in the intensity but the thud is still there every time I shift between park to drive or drive to reverse. Just switching between neutral and drive back and forth doesn't always make the sound. I've checked for signs of pump rub but the housing seems solid all around with zero leaks. I bought the truck with around 111k mile and am about 125k now. I don't abuse it myself much at all. I've also checked suspension bushings and what not, but I really feel the noise is somewhere around my tcase. Do you have any knowledge of this? I'm ready to order one of your units as I see the value involved here. But the last thing I want is to replace this and find it wasn't the problem.
What type of transfer case is this and from what truck? It has oil pump!
Dude great video thanks for sharing!
Does anyone know what are the torque specifications for the bolts the hold a TX10A transfer case shell together?
Dude. You're not the only one to forget the trans mount nuts. Mine were very loose when I got the truck.
Do you have a oil pump like the one in this video available for a 1996 242 J from a jeep?
I run ATF mixed with 25 % Lucas oil stabilizer. And have been having excellent performance with it. What do you think?
Weird question whats the best transfer case to turn backwards to use as an overdrive?
Can you rotate it to work passenger side front shaft? Try to make it work on ls 6.0 4l80 to Jeep scrambler
I have a 2018 Chevy 2500HD duramax, can the AUTOTRAC® 2-SPEED TRANSFER CASE with auto function be added? I have 2, 4hi and 4lo, I would like the auto function, is it possible?
I am truly amazed at the talent this man has. I am also extremely happy Mark puts a significant amount of effort and pride into performing a rebuild the best as he can, so much that I ordered a transfer case from him knowing that the unit I receive will not give me any grief later on....more so that I can rest my head on my pillow at night and not have to worry about fixing problems later on down the line (and we all know that feeling). Mark also recently saved my bacon via phone conversation (with some excellent advice/explanation) on a front differential issue I had with a previous vendor installed/repaired unit on my truck. Without Marks experience, knowledge and willingness to help I would have suffered financially. Thank you Mark and to the administrative ladies in the office who play a significant part in the entire process of a smooth running facility. As an individual who is not so easily impressed with the majority of mechanics who profess themselves as true craftsmanship in their field I will say Mark certainly holds the honor of my respect. Thank you again. Thank you to the individual who decided to make the video, it sold me.
Nice video! Do they CNC the main shaft on the GM 246 transfer case? Thanks
what brand silicone sealant in the caulking gun tho
Awesome content, very helpful for those of us that own these older truck's. Off topic but what setup are you running to have dual steering stabilizers?
BDS 7” lift kit with the dual steering stabilizer option
U work on mopar on a 5.7 Hemi u know the length on push rods for intake and exhaust
Great video thanks for sharing it bro
Came here looking for the best transfercase wtf
The np205 rock crusher is best ,,, no chain!
I expected to watch "this transfer case can handle xx torque and info on it, that one can handle xxx torque" etc? looks like I'm still going for a 205/203 doubler
commenting before i watch ........... NP205's and ROCKWELL's best Tcases ever *stock*
Mark has a great shop and very good explanations
There are repairs and upgrades that I do myself to be a good "basic dude". Then there are some upgrades that are best left to the professionals. I hear Wisconsin is nice in the summer.
Great Video, thank you. Mark, you're a beast! keep it up ... unrelated, what undercoating do you use? I'm in Vermont and use NHOU Back to Black. It's a great product.
Looking forward to receiving a NP241 from Mark!
I'm looking to get a replacement 241.
How was your t case ? Worth it?
If only there was techs and specialists like this out n LA , I have a z71 that I’d love to just rebuild the right way
I actually found Mark by accident. I have a 2003 Suburban Z71 with an NP246. I got 533000 miles out of it before pump rub brought me down. Unfortunately I didn't find Mark until AFTER I had a local trans shop fix the case for me. I will be saving up to get one of Mark's rebuilds with a Merchant oil pump as soon as I can.
Great video Kyle
Just ordered tcase for the lb7 super pumped.
Can I use 5w30 synthetic in my stock transfer case on a 2013 chevy duramax? I use the truck to pull a 28 foot RV 5th wheel.
Use factory recommended viscosity gear oil. Do some research on gear oils, there's plenty of information on UA-cam
I was about to comment that nobody mentioned the fact that's it's just peace of mind knowing it's going to get you where you need to go but you nailed it at the last min, badass man! NOW SHAVE THST NAPPY AS BEARD!! Lol
What do my fellow gearheads think about the np149? Thanks.
Did anyone else find it oddly satisfying watching the half’s come together like that?
Dude just let it slide into place like butter
Right?! He’s just that good.
Having that nice economical homemade bench mount helps a lot I'm sure. Would've saved me a lot of time. Wish Rustbelt would've got some better video of the mount.
Literally subscribed because of INTRO VID.
Awesome , and Very important.
Looks nice with the paint or might be grey primer
Building a 1985 K29 and dropping in a built 454 with a 700R4 tranny...do you recommend keeping the NP208 or swapping to a NP205?
700r4 and 454 what a combo.. lol... with all that weight, 208 will save a bit.. but if you dont care about weight ,then 205 is stronger.
That guy knows what he is talking about. Great vid
Too bad the camera guy is kinda clueless
Compare that with NP-205?
Anybody know what silicone he is using?
awesome video nd 👌 information amigo
Is it safe to use 5w30 Amsoil in my stock transfer case. I did a swap when I saw this.
I would say it’d be just fine
Nice transfercase
Is it stronger than the NP 241?
Mark needs to dress up the striking surface of that punch! The mushroomed striking surface is a projectile waiting to happen! I have a piece if hammer shrapnel that went through four layers of clothing and three inches into my calf muscle. Safety first! Safety Glasses for everyone in the shop, too.
What's the real time on all these upgrades? It seems like with me I wait a week per every hour worked is what it seems like.. ill place my huge order over the phone and then get stalled up over some stupid fitting or block off plug!
Videos come out as I get them done. Mark has this t case build done in 2 hours WITH filming
@@RustbeltMechanic Well that doesn't really answer it, yes it may take 2 hours for him but what about everything that leads up to those 2 hours is what I'm getting at.. Even with jobs you do yourself and not hire out for, those take time to plan out so you can be organized so there's less downtime.
Ah, I gotcha! Planning ahead is a BIG part on doing these videos and upgrades. That way, one, I’m not having my truck down for too long , and two, these videos don’t take two weeks or more to just shoot. I plan my videos out for weeks in advance. This particular one was thought out and planned about 2 1/2 weeks prior but there was very little prep to do since Marks shop has literally just about anything driveline related for a Duramax in stock. Do me a favor and dm me so I can bring this stuff up on live stream also, I think that would be a good topic👍🏻
Transfercase upgrades whoot
What year range is required transfer case re-engineering?
This is for my 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD... but also heavily modified so this tcase needs the modifications
@@RustbeltMechanic , thanks for answering my questions.
Cool video. Can you tell me why he puts oil in there instead of trans fluid. Thanks
There are no clutches in this t-case to need that plus the moly additive in the 5-30 oil is a big plus to the bearings and longevity. I’ll let him chime in if he has any more info👍🏻
transmission fluid is a very light oil and foams under load in a t-case when in fwd. The 5w30 gives you a 5 weight cold and 30 warm.the synthetic part wont foam under load. those cases get so hot after driving just a hour that 30 weight works way better than thin ATF .hope that clarifies a few things.
@@kodiaktruck3583 thanks. Can you just change out fluid now and be ok or would you do it differently?
@@allcureman3403 you will be fine to change over to it.
Just tried the discount code (RUSTBELT) for a transfer case, no go. Not good anymore?
Their website got changed, I’ll call them about it but if you call into talk to Mark he will honor it👍🏻
I like my old NP205's
When he puts his hand in front is the only pease I need to see but if u could slow down some video on the assembly
Man that guys knows his shit
What is the undercoating on this truck?
My truck is undercoated with Ziebart, but the bedliner paint job is Raptor liner.
Also have aluminum case back half
I just ordered mine but discount code didn’t work
What transfer brace was he talking about?
Sorry I didn’t show that, I have the PPE brace that goes between the transmission and the transfer case. You can see it in this video
ua-cam.com/video/TtzYyp_PBzs/v-deo.html
Thank you
Someone's gotta say it.....that's a beautiful shaft
Better watch it Kyle he's got his eye's on the shaft.... lmao!!
@@dtnel lol
Question can u make one for my t56?
That would be a question for mark but I think I’ve seen way more crazy requests than that
Show me
Why Mark ? Why Kodiak? Aren't all t cases and parts available to anyone.
The rustbelt coupon code doesn't work
I guess I missed the statement of why this is the best transfer case. So what is it?
Guy seems right on par with my local transmission guy I use for anything. I did the pump rub update a year and a half ago. Pulled the case, pulled it apart. Found some other things weren't looking right so had my gear/transmission shop go thru and check it out and good thing I did as the clutch pack was worn out.
The.merchant automotive (you can find them online) is the best way to go for the pump update. You really can't go wrong with thar and it's machined with good tight tolerances.
If you have Auto 4wd DON'T use it during winter. Just switch from 2Hi to 4Hi and back depending on the road surface. It'll make you clutch in the transfer case last a lot longer.
Always replace that front input seal when you remove the case so you don't fill your transfer case with transmission fluid should the seal in front of that go out and allow the fluid to be pushed back. 2001 thru 2007 or 2009 had the pump rub issues.
IF you have a leak don't wait if it's coming from the transfer case. Mine leaked out the top half of the rear housing which was better than those who leak out the bottom and run their transfer case dry.
Preventative maintenance is key as you don't want it doing down in a storm when you need it.
Yep! All great points 👍🏻
there is no clutch pack in a duramax case ? you must have a auto track case.
Jasper is another one,do upgrades too
It’s too bad Kodiak Truck won’t ship a T-Case to Canada anymore! 😢
GM transfer cases uses 5W-30 weight oil?
After they’ve been rebuilt here they do.
@@RustbeltMechanic So it's just for break-in?
Nope that’s what his t-cases run.
@@RustbeltMechanic I thought GM used the blue dyed oil which looks slightly lighter than 5W-30?
Gear oil inside transfer case
Where the NP205?
I'm new here and I don't know what the owner drives. Because of such, it would have been nice if the mechanic spit out what he was working on. You know, like identifying the make and model for an audience i.e. an NP 205 sittin' outback that I'm trying to figure putting in a Bronco II. Otherwise it looks like he's describing what is obviously any mechanical case that we all know will fail with time or abuse. I may be wrong but I didn't hear what model transfer case it is. Other than such your skills are mint (except forgetting nutting a tranny mount).
Thats A NP246
👌👍🏻
It won't beat an np 205
It's really not the horsepower a transfer case can take it's the "torque"
N
Geez….. never seen a transfer case that bad…. where there are holes warn through both sides …. God Almighty 😧.
Is that how all chevy transfer cases are, trouble? Pure garbage and needs Marks re-engineering support?
A chain drive transfer case is never Superior to gear to gear transfer case so the name of this video is just plain wrong
Ok just for a second think about the application…these are in trucks driven on the road right… the whine of a gear drive would be horrendous. The shear amount of teeth you would destroy constantly because it would be high rpm/high heat all the time would be ridiculous. Even in off road crazy applications, just ask Whistlin diesel how he likes gear drive transfer cases and drop boxes🤷♂️
Best transfer cases. And here's why, 9 minutes in, you find out why the guy is talking like he has diarrhea and someone is in the bathroom, it's definitely not a how-to instruction video because they want you to bring it to them because, You just can't handle the rebuild. And now a word from our sponsors🖕
Thanks for the view and the continued support of the channel. Glad you have such a great grasp on the purpose of the video👍🏻
