I have a 2002 2500HD Silverado V8 Gas LT. I just had a used transfer case installed and after it reaches 30mph, and then shifting into 4x4 HI, there is a very loud grind for a second until it kicks in. Do you know what this is and how can I get a transfer case with the new front and back aluminum casing and all good parts inside? It sounded like that was around $1,500.
Another cause of pinion bearing failure is the fluid level not checked during oil changes in the front differential. It does not take that long to remove the fill plug inserting a long small screwdriver checking the fluid level pulling it out to see if there is gear lube in it
Kodiak has the 5W30 Synthetic Motor oil only sticker on the T-case. Aren’t the T-Cases rated for GM’s “special” all trak fluid...which appears to be transmission fluid? Can you ellaborate why he used motor oil vs trans case fluid?
ATF is basically a zero weight oil. your will get very hot to the point you cant touch it with out getting burnt. years ago we started using 5w30 full synthetic motor oil . you will have a 5 weight cold and a 30 weight warm. much better protection on bearings and components plus being synthetic it wont foam under load (in 4wd) like no synthetic oils.
I'll be in touch im rebuilding a 1984 K10 square body im looking at using an LS1 or 3 with a 4L80E i would never send a transfer case to anyone but these guys.....
Me too I am planning to use the same oil as the transmission transynd. In a comment above though someone asked and you said the 5-30 but someone commented something about a pump and didn't elaborate. Thanks love the work you put into this.
My truck isnt going in gear , I mean it will sometimes but then itll just wont, would the transfer case be a problem or the transmission, I've got a 07 duramax
I work for BorgWarner where they make transfer cases. It’s awesome seeing someone putting quality parts back into a reman unit. Companies who reman units like he said care about profit not quality! Great job and cool build.
Ron France I don’t build them. I work in maintenance. But I do notice they take a very high standard when it comes to everything in this facility. I feel like they build some pretty dang good stuff. I wish I worked at the plant that builds turbos too. I’d love to have a couple for my truck! 😂
Mark is a master craftsman. Please pass this knowledge in to the younger generation. No one puts effort into the quality detail that he does. Keep it up sir. Your skill is amazing. And appreciated.
Mark definitely takes his job serious, this is what it’s all about quality over quantity the money in his eyes isn’t worth much instead his work ethic shows mark would love to get a transfer case done from you ballpark figure love the content as always
I put a shift kit in my 02 Duramax and it literally leaked after every time I would drive it was so dumb but I can’t wait to see your project Duramax when it’s done.
Does mark suggest adding 3 quarts of 5w30 thru the speed sensor. Thats how I do mine. I see he suggest the same oil. Just wondering if he suggest using fill plug method or sensor method. Thanks
Good job documenting everything. Quality comes with cost. But, majority of people don't care about quality, they want cheap and fast without realizing they will pay twice.
It’s an incredible pleasure to watch Mark work! You can tell this is what he was built to do. I don’t know why Marc got into this line of business but when he got into it he was “all” in. I could watch him do this all day and I would still be in awe of this mans talent and knowledge. I think when I get my LLY Duramax diesel if it needs any of this type of work I’ll just drive from Atlanta to Wisconsin!🤣
Its not rare at all, its a simple matter of what people are willing to pay for. If you want the attention to detail you need to offer fair trade for the persons time, amd most would rather have the lower price so thats what shops give them. That doesnt mean those same shops can't do a top notch job if you tell them what you want and, just don't expect it at the advertised bargain price.
@@Turner2211 Yes profit is primary driver for many shops; but there's also the quality factor of the tech/owner of that shop. Some techs may just not know or try to know enough to build the best of the best no matter what they may charge. Mark clearly kept digging/learning until he was completely satisfied with the end product that would represent his brand. Many techs would just look at the factory set up, determine it was bad engineering and then tell the customer to "expect" sub par performance or that it had to be rebuilt more often because of bad design components. Really like your videos. I've got a 05 GMC LLY. Love the truck! Baby the thing, only 125k on the truck. Basically a stock truck other than a 65 horse tune. Thanks!!
@Andy Pedro About 12 mpg with the 8100 allison transmission 4x4 crew cab short bed on 35 inch tires .. it's not bad considering it will tow anything and pushes my 9ft plow with ease ...and even loaded it gets about the same mileage....
I have a question for Mark. Off typic but i run amsoil in my duramax and have for most it’s life. Thing is it does use some oil between changes and I was told if I went back to conventional oil I’d most likely not use as much if any oil between changes as was told my rings would seal up better. Thoughts? Thanks much
I think Mark should sell a rebuild kit with an instructional video for these transfer cases. I'd love to rebuild mine since it has so many miles on it.
Why 5/30? Is there any particular reason he doesn’t recommend autotrak? Does mark use different components that don’t do well with autotrak or atf? Just wondering if that’s specific to his builds or if that’s a general consensus for all these cases
Josh has there been any issues with the plastic fork? I'm sure if Mark is using them they must be high quality but plastic just doesn't sound right for a shift fork.
Hey Truckmaster, Great videos, I really love learning how to do some work myself. I am about to change the transfer case fluid on my stock LLY and it says use ATF, but I see Mark has 5w30. Is that best for stock transfer cases? Or stick with ATF?
