Atleast Sanjay dutt played a part but why Anurag Kashup. He got shot for one sentence dialogue bad. Next was exactly miskkin wife mayb she can bring in violence in next lcu movie. Could have reduced the Hyna scene which made the movie little lengthy. He Could have moved with history pf violence with adding little luc portions but missed. He might do well in next lcu movie for sure

Leo had that potential to cross vikram and kaithi but the 2nd half ruined it. There was no need to finish both the villains all at once. If lokesh had skipped the flashback and kept leo's backstory as a mystery and killed only one of main villains for example sanjay dutt whereas arjun would also kill vijay's son for the same and somehow trisha divorced vijay for her son's loss keeping parthi broken and arjun becoming the main boss of the cartel where the last scene would be kamal hassan asking vijay to join the squad and arjun calling suriya giving the news of sanjay dutt's death would be an better ending and in second part we would get to know about Vijay's past. As it's the first installment of leo as an character in lcu they should have kept it as an open ending

Actually not all movies require a cameo like Vikram. Since we were so hyped up with Vikram, we expected some kind of cameo from a big star. But in POV of Leo’s universe this is just the starting point. The coming together of universes just can’t jump in with one movie. If this movie had come before Vikram, this whole point of view would have been totally different. We are still giving too much pressure to Lokesh to create mass moments like in Vikram. Give him a breather. He will come back stronger with his best when LCU foundation is set and builds up to the finale. Good review sir🤟🏽❤️

Parthi's character design was an interesting half-attempt. He was acting/sounding a bit over confident (in the default Vijay's style) from the first frame despite asking us to buy into his innocence. This was very obvious in the scenes when he was confidently fighting/handling the Hyena. It affected the believability/consistency of the character in the first half itself.
But maybe they didn't care enough to get these things right! Time & money.

Next movie is Thalaiver 171, there also Anirudh and Anbariv play huge roles, so lokesh doesnt need good story, Drugs, guns & Sound is enough to complete the films, that is the reason he already have ready lineups such as

That comment about the wife enjoying violent sex is well-spotted, I hadn't thought about it from that angle. The psychological fallout the son and the wife have to deal with in History of Violence is one of the most fascinating aspects of the movie for me. The wife suddenly doesn't who this man she has been with for 20 years and has to try to lead a family (at least in front of the society) knowing who her husband is. The son discovers parts about himself even he didn't know and there are questions about the personalities you inherit vs the ones you build. Even the impactful scene at the end where his daughter accepts him into the family because she's the purest one in the family and sees through him for what he is or trying to become which is a loving father and husband. There are no such moral questions in Leo and the emotional scene between the daughter and the father is just fitted into one throwaway line
Here Vijay's stardom is used in a way to see him get one over his wife and then to get his son saved. No moral questions are asked

The 1st half was a slow burn which really did worked for me.
But the 2nd half was rushed. The writing in the second half just gone out of hand. For me, the second half was a let down.

Next coming to the great horned owl, it speaks wonders about why and how Parthiban came to be an animal rescuer and portrays his love for animals at a deeper scale.

The scenes you mentioned in your original comment, though having such layers, felt like they are just coming and going for the sake of it. Execution is where lokesh missed the mark here I feel like. Of course, nowadays we are ambitious and want our Star ( not the case of generic actors ) to tick all the check boxes to be termed finest movie. It was a Finest Tamil movie experience for me thats cooked in a year , the star is keeping himself running constantly in regional cinema , without being indulged in Pan India tag and also not a similar bond he share with any other regional actors like rajni and amitab. For him it is Tamil cinema , with his best way, he should get an award , he deserved for Kaththi honestly more than VIP dhanush for that year although both of them are OG. The best flex of VJ is hand to hand action its very underrated. The dancer flexibility in his was great. During hyena shot , the actor is falling in the slippery snow, tailor made but not overplayed , it has not ticked certain checkboxes but ❤, we will revisit certain scenes again , 2k kids will tell this atleast 1st half as OG , through their reels.

Cant blame the filmmakers. if not for "SGM" as you told, people immediately term it as lag. Character conflicts are no more given importance as the attention span of an average movie goes decreased to nor more than 10 mins.
Yes, some fine movies came out with character driven stories but how many were they action movies.
Imagine Jailer, Rajini didn't have conflicts, the villain didn't have any scope, the last minute twist was too lame, we did not care about Rajini's son. But the movie kept on revolving around "SGM" every 10 minutes, so people thought this is the best movie they ever watched.
Will they think the same even they revisit it in OTT. I don't think so.

Because since they are the same person, the emotional scene has become gaslighting scene. The family man's pure struggle to save his family has become fake.
Yet the 2nd half flashback and LCU connect was a major drawback.
And why leo didnt go and revenge for his sister's death right away? Why putting up a drama saying hes not leo and pretending to stay away yet he knows one day he will be recognised by Das gang? Wtf is this narabali concept?

Leo is still better than master, Beast and Varisu.... I felt it was even better than Vikram ..In Vikram 2nd half was too loose... only Agent Tina and to an extend Rolex were the saving grace ...The trouble is people expected the moon and got shot out…It was almost like Dark Night 3 where we expected something bigger than Dark Night 2 but got underwhelmed, even though DN3 was still a good standalone action movie…
    **Spoilers Ahead**
    **Leo 2nd half high’s**
    • The scene between Vijay and Trisha in the 2nd half was so well acted … I am sure any other actor other than Trisha or Vijay would have struggled to pull it off… Vijay acting has improved a lot in the last 10 years…. It is a challenging scene. Showing rejection, anguish, suffering, pain, anger and love in the same scene is pure genius … I don’t know if a younger Vijay would have made it through…
    • The hyena’s entry in 2nd half was pure mass …well thought out to create the bond with it in 1st half.
    • Napoleon gun scene
    • Naa Ready than song…
    **Leo 2nd half low’s**
    • The complex relation between Antony, Herold and Leo was not established. In one scene Sanjay is saving Vijay’s family from goons, In another scene he is kidnapping his son. Sanjay’s intention is to take Leo back to his drug industry or to avenge him for destroying his factory. Why does he want Parthiban to accept that he is Leo? What is he going to do after he accepts ?
    • Why is Herold (Arjun) trying to kill Leo’s family ? Is he trying to take revenge for Leo killing his elder brother Antony ? Would he still try to kill his family if Antony was alive? Does Arjun have some Ego with Vijay…He was the one who killed his sister in the flashback too…. They should have given some scenes in flashback to establish this…
    • Vijay beating the police was so poorly shot… The action choreography was very 90’s.
    • More scenes with Elisa and Leo to showcase the brother-sister bond would have helped the audience to feel the pain . Right now there is no emotional connect in her death...
    • Mansoor Ali Khan doesn’t tell Gautham Menon that the guy in picture is Leo…. That is for a reason…That is not told…even his relationship with Leo was not written well…
    • Anurag Kashyup killing was so generic…. Some Ego with friend…. This doesn’t sync with Leo’s overall character…. Why does he have to kill for that ?
    • Very lengthy Climax…The one on one fight with Arjun should have been trimmed. Also Mathew was not shown much in Climax… He should have had some role there…
    Overall Leo is a 3.5/5 movie…Not bad, not great…Bloody sweet 😊

To put it short its the best vijay film in a long time but not the best from Lokesh. Second half could have been more explored with intense convos and convincing back story. Even a traditional back story told right could have made this into a long standing cult classic. My man, was just godly throughout. For that I am forever grateful to Manoj, ani and Loki to push him to perform such a challenging dual shade role. First half was just pure class. Fresh raw and gigantically staged.

Parthi aim in the first place is never to stop drugs or he had any plans to hunt down the villains..so VIKRAM calling and telling that closing one drug place is not enough mroe needs to be done was somewhat funny for me.....LEO could have been a character on its own who is still at large , there was no need that parthi to be a LEO, which would have given even more time for LK sir to write a even a bigger plot for him later.

    Spot on baddy!!
I felt the same about usage of Myskyn, Sandy master, Anurag Kashyap and even Arjun for that matter. I was hoping for some worthy moments. All the LCU references felt like a force fit and did not seem relevant. They were just added to get whistles from the audience, which even tapered towards the end. I understand it is action movie, but over the top thinking to make the fights look gross is ridiculous.
When Gautham Menon says the last standing villain will come out screaming, I was hoping Trisha was going to start kicking butt. Definitely not expecting the Hyena. But, the scene reminded me of RRR interval block. It was amazing in RRR, it feels like lazy writing in this one. Had Trisha started fighting, it would've created a wow moment.
I also did not understand why did Harold and Antony Das come looking for Parthiban when they already know he’s going to kill them. If they did come after him, it must be for taking revenge or something. Instead, they just keep asking him if he’s Leo. What were they trying to achieve? Out of nowhere, Antony says he’s kidnapped Leo’s son for human sacrifice. The writing was Lazy and wasn’t expecting that. At least from Lokesh.
I was hoping Lokesh will finish the movie leaving the suspense if Parthiban is Leo or not, like how Nolan ended Inception. I loved the Dark Knight like ending in Vikram. It would've generated some curiosity and buzz for viewers like me who watched #LeoFDFS just for Lokesh’s storytelling.

Leo 1st half sets a well solid base to super pass "Kaithi and Vikram" in LCU. But somehow Lokesh missed a knots to make it. Flashback should been avoided. Instead Lokesh try to keep the secret by hiding Parthiban past life and try to maintain whether Leo and Partiban are same or different persons.
    WHAT IF ???
2nd half opens in a same style where Antony Das himself and Harlod Das's gang try to meet Leo and try to prove that Parthiban was Leo in his past.. Noway parthiban accept that he was Leo in his past. Antony Das and Harlod Das gang try to attack his family, but Parthiban well prepared and safe grard his family despite various try from both gang. Somehow Antony Das kidnapped Pathiban's son.
    Pre Climax Setting:
Parthiban try to find out his son. Leaving Trisha, his daughter, alone in GVM house with GVM and Napoleon as a safeguard.
Night | Int ( GVM house ) [ Explained Detailed as this scene got some mass elements, I guess ]
Harlod bas gang around 50 people enters GVM house. Someone cutoff the electricity supply and before opening the door 2 people fly's and remaining people try to find who beaten them using tourch.
Inside house 'Dilli doing lungi fold...
FLASHBACK [ Before Parthiban leaves home to find out his son. Asked GVM and Napoleon to safeguard his family. Meanwhile Nepoleon asked help from Dili to protect Prathiban family from threats. Dilli came all the way to protect Parthiban family ]
All 3 (Dilli, Napoleon and GVM ) almost killed everyone.
Finally Parthiban find out the place where his son kept and tortured. Massive fight scene b/w Parthiban and Antony Das. Finally Parthiban killed Antony Das and safe guard his son.
( As seen in original movie climax , just replace Harold Das character with Antony Das )
And still maintained the secret " Who is Leo Das"
End credit: ( Like vikram movie )
    Insert Lokiverse 2.0 BGM
Harlod Das got both news of Anthony Das death and his gang killed by 'Dilli' and he conveyed this things to his son " Rolex " who is a big drug dealer in Mumbai. And now Harlod bas and Rolex against Parthiban and Dilli. And still the secret kept Whether " Parthiban and Leo " are same person or different person.
Parthiban gets a call from Unknown no.. Saying Leo we will come for you and your family
    Parthiban replied : My brother Rolex... Hehaha " I'm waiting " 🔥
( Gives a hint that Parthiban and Leo are same person )
**Vikram and his squad spying this call**
Written and Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj
Finish in a open way to the audience " What really happens to Leo aka Parthiban in his past..
