The film had so much potential. Only if Vanga could manage himself instead of trying to troll the Critics , it would have been truly a brilliant film. Would've and could've...
I couldn't agree more ...I felt move had a huge potential to be a cult !
Maybe the next part could actually fix it up and Maybe Sandeep will work more deep into the storytelling and characters
Only Critics and Audiences are saying that "Vanga is replying to critics through this movie" and blah blah but nothing like that is confirmed from Director's side.

It's scary to see such a degrading, scary movie that normalises domestic abuse getting so many circle jerks from BR and in comments. We are seeing a new low in Indian cinema by the name Vanga. And reviewers who completely ignore the social aspects of a movie are just not the type we want because they ultimately reduce everything out of their social/political implications. This precisely reduces this 'review' to just a circle jerk. And it's unbelievable when BR talks to progressive directors like Vetri or Mari. The whole movie comes on a full circle, the purpose of the movie perhaps, when in the epilogue Abhay(Ranbir's son) runs towards him and Ranbir 'wholeheartedly' hugs and cherishes his moments. Atleast that is what cemented the journey of Ranbir in this movie for me.
Ranbir doesn't give a shit about his son in the entire movie. Lol.
@@vedvardan6074 Just like his dad. Felt like the cycle is going to continue, very disturbing IMO and fitting.

@dhanushvenkat6532but that's what bugs this movie the most. Vanga says that Ranbir isn't hero hence it's not glorifying violence and if so then the character should atleast have result of what he does but it seemed like apart from father dying which didnt matter anyway bcs they didn't give a shit ab their relationship in second half there is no loss for ranvijay

Keep aside the unconventional exhibition of emotions. As a movie, did it keep you engaged or did it have a gripping story? No. The movie fails right there. Baddy’s review is surprising. The same guy who pinpointed the flaws accurately in another action film, couldn’t criticize this one in film aspects. Can understand his struggle here. 😏
2 rupees critic. Cant expect snything from these sellouts
I think director tried something different and not all of it worked in the movie. He is still a young but passionate director. If he continues his passion, his craft may improve significantly and hopefully some maturity.
Full marks for effort and guts to the director.
I don't think Rangan has reviewed any other movie with such passion. The animal within Rangan is now out for everyone to see. Animal Rangan.
#Animal was criticized by many for its misogyny scenes. But another issue that many fail to notice is the Hinduism/Islamic hatred that permeates the film.
Nayak's company name is the Hindu symbol Swastik. The man narrates almost like a nasal band. The hero's partner, the villain, becomes a convert to Islam out of necessity. The only reason given is that Muslims can marry multiple women. While Hindu wives are portrayed as female goddesses for the Hindu hero to fall in love with his wife, those who become the wives of the Muslim villain are portrayed as smokers, amorous, and married of convenience.
A Hindu preacher who drinks urine without question, talks rationally and self-righteously only to the church father.
#Animal is the most dangerous film that has fueled the Islamophobia of the Hindu northerners just as it has reaped revenue by inciting violence and sexuality.
Watching Animal movie . Only went to the movie because of Ranbir. It did have some spark in few scenes but overall a bad film. Too much blood shed and unwanted violence. The underwear joke was horrible. Left theater at the interval
Going to a movie just because of a particular actor and not knowing anything about the movie shows immaturity. What else can we expect from such audiences ??😂

After watching the movie and all the reviews, I can say that this is what a film review should be.
Finally someone spoke abt Ranvijay having criminal tendencies from the beginning and this clearly shows nobody wants you to look at Ranvijay as a role model. It was quite well placed in the movie and loved how the father also mentions it once or twice. This was quite a good movie, mad yes it did have it's flaws. Bt it will change the industry for sure.
It has flaws but if someone counts Misogyny, Violence and Bold Scenes as flaws then that person is a Joker because the topic of the movie is about that.

This is why BR is the best reviewer of all time! Loved the film but loved the review even more. Hats off to you, Sir.
Review of Baradwaj Rangan
There was a time when Baradwaj Rangan reviews were measured and socially conscious. Today Baradwaj's measure of success is also dependent on creating a rapport with established directors owing to which reviews have been watered down. Rather than being outright critical, BR takes a savior position and builds a narrative closer to the mainstream audience and directors.
True fans want to see BR flexing his skills and critiquing independently with a strong voice.
Besides, high time we stop enabling scripts like this. Some rad dud is gonna carry a gun to a school and feel he is right.
Somewhere we need a correction?
Cultural leaders and movie reviewers have a say.
I'm not very sure about the socially conscious part. If you watch one of the old Film companion videos, where there's a very fruitful discussion among Anupama, Sucharitha and him, regarding films and their social responsibility, he shares how he has always viewed films and how he likes to analyse them. Do check it out. It somehow doesn't align with what you've mentioned, but then again Ive just recently started to follow him.
And about you saying that he's watered down his reviews and has started to just give reviews based on mass appeal, you should check out his reviews of movies like Jawan, Leo and Jailer. Blockbusters of their own industries, but no, he analysed them promptly and was very critical of those movies and the craft.
What I liked about his review was that while people were reviewing it through a politically correct lens(which is equally needed), he's the one critic who analysed it for the craft it is and analysed it for its parallels with other works and the subtext of the movie which I feel was missing from the other critiques which just boiled down to it's political correctness and almost nothing about the craft of cinema
*If at all there was an attempt at criticising the craft by itself, it ends up being half hearted and biased due to their preconceived notions, the politics they believe in and their ideologies. So this review being free from all of those in a way, was truly a breath of fresh air
Movies are fictional for god sake. Same logic as people watch Krissh and start flying from buildings

Just finished watching the film and I agree to this review a 100%.
Actually I’m quite surprised with the way BR has reviewed animal.. He addresses this mere incoherent and inconsistent movie as a passable watch even which it is not. Actually in Leo review, I could see he was utterly disappointed after watching the movie. Even created terminologies like SGMs 😂. I don’t even need to explain how Leo is better. I get it that baddy is little more disappointed with the leo movie(maybe due to his expectations from Lokesh). But I feel he should have kept the balance equally while reviewing this movie criticising all aspects, which he usually does. Sad to see he is trying to find better bits in the whole chaos. BTW have been following you since Film Companion. Big Fan.

Individuals who are one-dimensional seem to have missed the central message of the movie. The core ideology proposes that we are all animals pretending to be civilized-a concept imposed on us through social and political programming by society. This absence of police throughout the movie serves to create an anarchical atmosphere.
I guess the department of police had a long vacation during the shooting of the film. I mean I get it's a mass film and not everything has to be close to reality but 300 murders and not a single cop on the scene?😂 But we have to feel for the realistic father son bonding?🤣🤣

It should be based on the story and characters as well, so behaviour of the hero would be an essential part of the review.
Your way of justifying misogyny in the film, the unbridled rampage, the large hip, the pulp sentimentality, are all ludicrous to say the least. This is how animals are - you are saying. But Animals are not like that. You must first observe them, how they behave. The worst review that I have heard on this movie which lauds toxic masculinity and debasement of women.

Great review! I wish there were more of your kind amongst the Indian film critics companions. After watching other critics review this film, I strongly wish so. Personal vile attacks on any director irrespective of his world view is unpalatable.
The best review of Animal. Similar thoughts here too. I liked the treatment of the cliches, the performances, and the first half. Some seemingly random moments pop, like Ranbir and his black cats coming out of their cars or him and his cousins seeking his father's blessings. There is a great sense of style in these scenes. But the film becomes a bit too predictable in the second half. I disliked the father-son treatment, especially. Because it has the look and feel of a Dharma drama, but tonally, it doesn't quite fit into this film because we don't feel for the protagonist at all. But I mostly agree with your review. Very well reviewed, indeed.

Hey Barry , you know why I don't liked Animal unlike I liked Arjun reddy? Because in Arjun reddy the protogonists character drive the story through its interaction with its environment which create Conflicts. where as in Animal Ranbir kapoor character has nothing to do with creating Conflict( the rift with antagonist)as the Conflicts in this movie was created by his grandfather and his past. So existence of Ranbir kapoors toxic masculine character wasn't needed in the movie at first place unlike it was totally necessary in Arjun reddy .
Sir, i wish to take this opportunity to tell you how perfect and correct is your review. Finally, i saw a critic's review that is fair and sensible. Thank you the most, for this time. For this movie's review!
Your review seems like the vision/brief that vanga wanted to go after, unfortunately, it just did not translate on the screen. It was just mindless violence, broken plots and sub plots with poor editing.
Crucial factor ppl tend to miss : The Godfather, released back then, too had patriarchal overtones, where the mafia did not involve the women. Marlon Brando says as much in the film "Children, women can make mistakes, but men can't." Al Pacino's wife's character represents a woman suffering in a patriarchal set up.
In such a controlled, agressive and dominating world of Godfather & Animal it's inevitable for some groups to fall by the wayside & be dominated by another. How difficult is it to understand for other so called Critics?
Ps: before anyone thinks I'm condoning whatever is there in the film- I didn't like Arjun Reddy, character or protagonist. And going by the talk of this film, I might watch it on OTT but doubtful whether I'll enjoy it. My only bone to pick is with politically correct critics who can't seem to take off their political lens.
And in movie, Barbie, they bring up this point
Haha, but the Godfather never has songs, it doesn't try to make us feel for and empathize with the character. People are seeing Ranbir as the protagonist but the Godfather has no protagonist. It has just goons and it shows them as goons. Moreover, people are lauding animal for the 'father-son love story ❤'

@@gaurav-hn5zd Its alright, no offence taken. But we must mind ourselves to not be aggressive & jump to conclusions w/o understanding what others are saying. Then there's no difference b/w us and what we are against. My only contention is most reviewers, especially up North, are so severe on the politics of a film(any film) & by extension, become judgemental about the director, makers, etc. W/o judging a film purely for what it sets out to say, and what it has achieved by the end. There was so much written about the politics of films like Pathan or Jawaan, which were straight up crap masala films. There is an absolute inability of the reviewers to see a film as a film, w/o looking at everything thru' a political lens. That's what I was outraged about. And that's where I find BR to be the best.

The plot holes were plenty. Why did the body double exist for barely 1 scene? Why did the mole suddenly fall in love and directly reveal who the villain who sent her was? Why the plastic surgery?

Jawan though basic didn't have a single portion that felt unnecessary for the film but Animal had loads of it in the second half. The cringe worthy scenes in the second half where Rashmika is confronting Ranbir 🤮 The ease in which Ranbir cracks the suspect is too amateurish; takes a short cut route even in a 3'20 mins film. Vanga is a talented director who just doesn't know how to edit his films
And the film takes the +18 route not because it needs to. It's to cater to the mass audience; deliberate bloodbath to feed the violence lovers. Even GOT had lesser violence even if they were portraying a fictional story about fight for Kingdom.
@@athmikhegde4752forget the bloodshed. It’s become common these days. But what with the sex talk every other minute lol.
You have to view jawan from a south indian's lens. We get two movies a year from our superstars that go on about preaching about things wrong in society and giving us a moral lesson on what needs to be done. Jawan is a mashup of all those movies which is why we laughed when we watched it because every single trope and approach, we smelled from a mile away.
BR has his sympathies towards Sandeep after Kabir Singh.
Such a non-sence movie I have never seen so far 🤮🤮, BR enna da edu Leo not worth but animal scen by scen break down pannura, edu la enna eruku nu, waste of time to watch this review
Animal is a fuckin masterpiece sambar.I know you guys won’t get it.
"Sandeep Reddy Vanga a true master in bringing out animal from everyone" what a PERFORMANCE FROM Ranbir Kapoor and all Cast, it's strictly for Adults but Dark Comedy was the new Zonar who never touched. Animal is full Paisa wasool 🎉❤
1st half avg Because of screenplay dialogues but worthy internal block and 2nd half good...finally end credits don't miss 🔥💯 one man show Ranbir Kapoor 🛐
It's a collage of iconic scenes of Godfather (1972) and overall story line being built on that.. Ranbir is good ..certain characters are not evaluated at its best Shakti Kapoor, Bobby
What a beautiful review. Such onpoint analaysis, you really think different. Kudos to Sandeep Reddy Vanga for giving us this mixed but exhilarating plate of entertainment!
Not meant to satisfy critics but true to his own vision which is exhilarating 👌
Really connected with Animal ... It is well made in its own way. There are some lengthy scenes with which the director tries to tell something and overdoes it... Those scenes can be shortened and crisped out.. left alone everything is fantastic
Is there subtitles available for this movie in chennai city
We had everything here
Punjabis, southindians, muslims, christians, panditji and havan marathis, in the movie
Plot : body double to save papa , angry chachas son
Sex: bra strap, slapping wife snd getting slapped, affair
Killing ppl while punjabi gang was sunging behind like serioudly…gunga bhai behra bhai😂😂😂it turned into comedy in the end
Dialogues and visuals:
pubic hair, water breaking, urine, heart replacement,
Most important: papa papa papa papa crap
Lol, best review so far. Crap sold in a glimmering package of Bollywood stars and good music.
Animal is just an average movie, Bobby deol is wasted😢
2nd half is drag, is loud, has toxic elements and not for family audience 👎, Ranbir deserves much better movie than animal, wasted effort
Did u jus call the Godfather novel trashy?!
It was originally pulp fiction-esque in its treatment. ( Atleast what I heard, having not read it). Not the serious style which the film has.
Exactly the same question I got!
Yes, looked like he made fun of himself. Without that master piece film wouldn't have been made. 🙄
Am all in for art is art…. Movie is a movie.. but where do we draw the line or do we draw one at all? There should be some amount of conscience as a film maker and i think there is zero conscience here in this movie .. look at it this way lets assume the film is titled fiercer animal and the protagonist is raping minor girls and children eg. he is raping bobby deol’s three wives ( am 100% sure he mentions/ intends / threatens with it in the movie ) and their minor children with his gang with people firing guns victoriously and with a mass bgm running and there are people screaming their lungs out clapping whistling and celebrating for the same… will u be the one who is in the crowd or will u be distraught ? Will we be critical then ? Just because its named animal, u cant glorify rape, if we fail to understand this we fail as a society!
Exactly. We dont want to see all these in real life, that's why it's only shown in movies.
@@_S._S._ i dont understand
@@karthickr6121 we don't want to do life threatening things so we use Virtual Reality aka VR. Similarly, we also don't want violence in real life, so to satisfy our blood thirsty cravings (since a lot of us are still meat eaters), we just put blood and violence in movies. Movies are purely fantasy and they are finctional. Only to be appreciated as a form of entertainment, not reality. At least that's what I understand, bro. 😊
Rahul Desai is the live action version of that poet Ranbir was talking about in the beginning.
"The animal that we keep caged" - Baddy. These were the exact lines I thought after I saw his Anupama interview. I haven't seen the movie not sure if I will but SRV's character seems like that.
First ranbir is a protagonist not a hero. Its shown in the film that his obsession with his father tends to gets him in all kinds of trouble and I feel the problems is glorified than the hero himself! For me ranbir is a negative character.. This is a pov of a villain rather than a hero for me. Watching villans is rather discomforting isn't it. That's why you critics see movies in only one lens. Try to get different povs you'll love the film. If you hate rks character then the film has won. This is just my pov. I'm good with your povs as well. Lets embrace all movies and lets not take anything personal !!
But this reviewer is really sensible ❤
Well said bro.
Loved Baddys reviews as always. I also felt that Animal was a Desi ode to The Godfather (except our main character is swimming in testosterone). The movie iis certainly an experience and it is certainly very Vanga reddy.
What I don’t get are the dialogues , it is definitely the weakest point of the film
" If you have 'good taste' do not go near this movie" 🤣😂🤣😂
Watching this review the same number of times I have watched Animal..very equivalent to the movie..ur review is also so thought out and exceptionally understood!! Kudos to Vanga, Ranbir and Bharadwaj!!
This is the worst movie that i have seen and i have seen bad movies.. to say a director is brave for showing violence scene is saying that some one shitting on the side of the road is brave to expose their butt.
Average , 2nd half just waste
Giving negative review for leo and positive review for this toxic movie....had a huge respect for u...nd u ruined it sir😢
