Baradwaj guy is the only guy who understands cinema world so much he speaks facts even i am vijay fan but he spills facts i was satisfied with thr characters expected alot of cameos and the moive didnt have a good character back story

1. if villain is powerful , hero gets powerful and movie gets successful. this is totally missed here in Leo. 2. the reason for conflict between vijay and sanjay dutt could have been something else in the script but the reaosn in the movie was silly 3. the whole movie could have been covered in first half to identify "who is Leo" and second half could have been made better with more engaging scene/script

What worked for me: 1. Subramani call back 2. Action in cafe 3. Chittappa- first reveal call . 4. Everyone’s performance- Vijay was so refreshing to watch. 5. Market fight 6. Bgm Etc etc What didn’t work for me: 1. Inbetween an intense scene dance for me dance for me 😂 a simple lullaby would’ve been better- made me laugh n lost the intensity. 2. Car rally fight scene- felt like video game n didn’t feel genuine at all. But towards the end it was nice. 3. Superstition and twin 4. Gangsters outside home- felt repetitive to Kaithi movie 5. Flashback- was too slow in some portion n too fast in some. Why did hawk fly away after first glimpse? 😅

Its just my opinion but the movie would have been so much better if it wasn't revealed that Parthi was actually Leo until the very end. Would have been more powerful if Vikram revealed his identity over the phone call.. Vikram literally fooled everyone and made them believe that he was dead so he could have easily seen through Leo's bullshit and drama. That way the LCU connect would have felt even more significant to the plot.. My point is, the reveal that Parthi was indeed Leo could have been more subtle, like after the phone call, he goes back to join his family for breakfast but he just does some kind of mannerism that Leo does in flashback(that only the audience knows but the family doesnt, like rolling the revolver) and movie ends right there

Exactly. Parthis reveal that he is Leo twice in the movie totally sucked out the excitement. As a man who claims to be reformed and wanting to live as a normal man, he would not reveal that and act like him with changed mannerisms. Vikram revealing at the end would’ve been fantastic and such a high at the end .

Elissa's character intro could be a fight scene. More scenes for Elissa-Leo like Black Hawk-Black Widow. The emotional scene before Elisa's death could be more effective in elevating the anger and sadness. Similarly, Ani could use a sentimental BGM like "Poor Kandhe Singham" for all the family emotional scenes.

We don't see his wife, we don't see a flashback but we can see and understand Dilli's pain.

19:40 my interpretation of the hyena scene was that the Leo character had seen so many animals being killed in the past, so when he shed his violent image, rescuing animals was his redemption..

Direction style has changed according to the times. The fact that Arjun was there was a great delight to see the movie. I definitely enjoyed watching this movie. I watched in South Africa yesterday. What was amusing was ..there were almost 15 gentleman that were Indian born and maybe here in South Africa for work purposes. When the movie started these men were shouting in delight. And clapping when ever Vijay appeared on screen. It was nice because in South Africa we not used to this excitement . I will definitely watch again. Love from South Africa ❤
Maya character could've had more impact by helping leo at a crucial moment and then revealing that she's part of Vikram's black squad. This would've made it more convincing for Leo to help black squad in drug free society mission as they had helped leo at a crucial point.

This film worked for me. Probably the expectations were huge and it has left people not so satisfied. Yes there were a few flaws. But even Vikram had its flaws. The flashback portion was definitely a huge let down. But there were so many positives from the film. This is the Vijay I have always wanted to see. Music was extraordinary. There were many scenes well written too. This is a much better film than master and most of Vijay’s films recently. It’s kinda shocking that people are talking only abt the negatives. Weirdly baddy said VTK worked for him and it’s one of tthe most important gangster film in Tamil, but Leo didn’t work for him. Come on guys. Don’t be so negative. Probably Vijay will stop experimenting and go back to his comfort zone and even Lokesh might start playing safe from his next film. How RRR, KGF, jailer and all works for people and Leo doesn’t work is something I really don’t understand..
Kgf RRR and Jailer had their own share of flaws but they were overshadowed by equally better scenes. Leo did have so many good scenes but the flaws overshadowed them such as having weak antagonists, forced callbacks to LCU characters, and a generic story in the 2nd half.
RRR is completely different from this film as well jailer is Rajini’s screen presence but I will compare this kgf both are similar kind of movie Leo does have very good fight sequence in first half but doesn’t have that emotion which will connect with movie Some how they keep on fighting and second half everything is worst even fight sequences But in KGF fights will satisfy their buildups Vijay should work with ar Murugadoss again Like thuppaki and kathi This new directors is cheating is fake marking and fake hypes
In my opinion the whole movie could be much elaborated with 2 parts with more screen space for each and every charecters who where connected to the main plot and the actors with big names
The first half of the film was fantastic, a 100% Lokesh film which is way satisfying than all of his previous films. Just as we come out for the interval and go back, it seems like the director was switched. The second half is made up of not so organic fights that fill in the space which should have been used to ground the flashback and register it so that the climax takes us by surprise
I assume Harold Das is the lead for the Rolex standalone movie. This movie can't be reviewed or viewed as 1 movie, needs to be viewed as a whole (LCU). Kaithi is about the intro for "Scorpio" labeled the drug. Vikram is about identifying logistics about "Scorpio" labeling the drug. Leo is about the origin of the manufacturing of Datura. Rolex could be the link to how Datura becomes "Scorpio" labeling the drug and revealing missing links in Leo and leading more for Kathi 2 and Vikram 2.
This is the issue with casting Vijay or Rajini. Nothing wrong with them and i like them both but they have become a huge mass hero that directors are forced to make the movie revolve around them rather than all the characters revolving around the script. Simple trick in getting a movie successful is give screen space to the villan(s). The more to create a good villain. If we take all the good movies, the importance of a great villain and side characters can be seen. Nowadays people are celebrating villains and small characters in the movie. Even lokesh did it in the past with nepoleon, Rolex, santhanam, even arjun dass. I was really hoping to see amazing villain by arjun sarja or sanjay dutt. Huge disappointment.
First don’t blame the actors for that… in master also lokesh gave importance to bhavani than vijay. But this movie is supposed to revolve around the main character. Lokesh told in the interviews that this movie is abt the character steady. U just didn’t set the expectations right 😊

They will not celebrate by lifting Leo picture. Instead when Harold lifted the picture, everyone in the crowd will shout that ‘I will chop Leo’s head’, this is where the director confused the audience. We still don’t know why Antony and Harold want Leo back . Why do they need him?
Some random UA-cam comment Leo had that potential to cross vikram and kaithi but the 2nd half ruined it. There was no need to finish both the villains all at once. If lokesh had skipped the flashback and kept leo's backstory as a mystery and killed only one of main villains for example sanjay dutt whereas arjun would also kill vijay's son for the same and somehow trisha divorced vijay for her son's loss keeping parthi broken and arjun becoming the main boss of the cartel where the last scene would be kamal hassan asking vijay to join the squad and arjun calling suriya giving the news of sanjay dutt's death would be an better ending and in second part we would get to know about Vijay's past. As it's the first installment of leo as an character in Icu they should have kept it as an open ending
I felt the same way after I watched it for the first time. The gaslighting scene was the one that bothered me the most. Then I rewatched the movie. This movie and the character is layered, and with the new perspective it becomes clear that the protagonist is Parthipan. He is a morally complex character. He tries Joshi to stop telling the backstory of Anthony Das, he emotionally manipulates his wife and gaslights her to desperately keep 'Parthipan' alive. Leo, his deluded "alter ego" is the antagonist that the whole fight is actually against. Agree that the flashback scene was weak, but also alludes to unreliable narration. I feel the reason the Das brothers were weak as villains is because the real antagonist was Leo Das. In the end, the main thesis of the entire movie is Parthipan (the morally grey protagonist) fighting to keep Leo dead.
Parthiban is definitely a complex character. It's actually possible he didn't manipulate anybody. He seems to truly believe he's Parthiban, an ordinary Cafe owner and animal rescuer. But a series of unfortunate incidents proves to him that Leo is still very much alive. I think that's why he cries at the Cafe. For 20 years, he thought Leo was dead and he was just Parthiban. The following events are an internal conflict between Parthi and Leo. I saw the scenes with Joshi and Sathya as more like Parthi convincing himself that he was Parthi and nobody else. But at the end, even if for a short time, Leo completely takes over. Notice how he doesn't enjoy killing anybody until that point. When he killed Harold, that was Leo. The laugh, the style, it was as if he was reveling in the violence. The flashback,however, is the weakest link. I don't think the concept of unreliable narration works here. It comes off more like an excuse rather than a cleverly executed technique considering how bad the flashback scenes were written. If that was executed properly, Leo would have been a very good movie overall. Also, no question of Leo Das being the antagonist because he isn't, storywise. Even if we assume he is, for argument's sake, that's not an excuse for making Antony and Harold Das as weak characters. Poorly written characters don't make for good entertainment. Imo, Antony Das had the potential to be a scary villain but was wasted. As it stands, the first half was fantastic. The second half was average. I might probably watch it again in theatres just for the first half. I really enjoyed it.

Here's the thing, I commend their effort. It's awesome but at the end of the day it's their job. They are doing it to show us new things and make the movie more successful. When they are not delivering it upto our standards, we have every right to criticize

At this point I am bit scared if Loki is capable of a movie where he can handle all these stars in a single movie..we are expecting an Avengers level movie..but Loki clearly showed that he is not really good in including stars like Sanjay Dutt and Arjun. Sandy was a way better villain in this movie..and the backstory with the sister stuff felt like a whole different movie.
BR is like that one disappointed class teacher who expected his favorite topper student to score centum in his subject but that student has failed to score good marks.

Yeah, this whole idea of a cinematic universe makes it easier for the writers to make and hide mistakes. Even if Leo 2 fills a lot of holes in Leo 1, it shouldn't be at the cost of Leo 1 being mediocre.
Leave this LCU 😢 give him some time. Let him do individual movies. Vijay also should take a break in his career as he is only believing in director not the story. This movie could have been better if they started showing villian before intervel and reduced myshkin family revenge scenes
Actually I heard whole theatre enjoyed 2nd half more whenever there's hype occurs. Honestly leo can be watched many times without getting bored. Action worked well. Every character played their part well

Loki introduced a new universe (leo) coming in to lcu so they just showing leo world villain.. after this might show real lcu villains(stronger).. i dont find it forced lcu connection.. its a smooth connection of a guy going in to lcu recruited by vikram.. simple connection.. loki did a great job but we expected to much in the name of lcu.. sometimes a few character cameo is enough to introduce a new character in a universe… the prob is everyone expected a big star cameo like what loki did in vikram… there’s a difference between recruiting a new guy from a separate gang or world in to the big universe and a story which is fully involve in that lcu story.. its like marvel/dcu new character introduction movie.. for me it really worked well 4/5 ✨ .. Plus anyone noticed when maansoor will say .. konjem sonnedhuke ippidi naa muzhu kadhai terinjaa sethurevan polle? Maybe there’s a hidden story or easter egg kinda thingy
I think things went wrong in the editing table. Looks like many plot points have been removed to cut the run time. Personally I don’t mind watching a 3.5 hr movie if that’s well made. Let’s see if we can get a director’s cut for Leo.
Totally unfair reviews. I’m not a die hard vj fan, in fact I disliked beast and varisu. Vj used to be in movies like a template, 6 songs, fight, comedy and family scenes. This is a neat action thriller like John Wick. Our reviewers are over thinking to criticize. This need not be like Vikram. Vikram had Kamal, Fafa, Vj sethupathy and other elements to make it a whole movie. Vj has single handedly managed this whole movie. While many see there is no strong villain, people fail to understand that Vj has such a big negative shade in himself and managing that bad vs his good was the underlying theme of this movie. So you don’t need a big villain. Bd keeps bringing Hollywood examples, do reviewers in Hollywood keep reviewing like him?

I'm not vijay fan but the movie I watched yesterday. Do not listen to the reviewers they watch many movie everyday always they want more, like something different. As a common audience they likes it. Don't worry, definitely it will work.
The first 10 mins many ppl just focussed on the hyena scene but so many hints were missed by the audience. Eg: 1) when joshi called parthi, the name leo appears in his phone screen, which means joshi is aware that parthi is leo. 2) parthi tells anthony dass in the coffee shop that he hates cigarette smell. However in the very first scene that parthi fights the hyena, he lights up the bomb with cigarette in his mouth. There are many more clues like this given in the first 10 mins .. judging loki from his previous movies, there must be a reason for the flat 2nd half. Probably more plots will be revealed in his upcoming lcu movies
Thalapathy's acting was brilliant. Lokesh knew the remake of history of violence is not going to satisfy the audience, maybe thalapathy fans would've enjoyed, but to create a hype between general audience, he included 1 small character from kaithi and another voiceover at post credit, which looked like those LCU things were forcefully implemented into a standalone movie. Hopefully the connect justifies in upcoming movies

It's like watching a remake movie and telling it's predictable 😂 Of course you can !! he took the inspiration out of it and made his version for the Tamil audience. Savaram 7 and any music made settles within that so there is no new story ever made especially after 60yrs+ Tamil cinema. It's easy to be a critic, I can be too but the same person cannot make a movie!! Considering the stardom of Thalapathy there are like 360 angles the writer should think of. Chumma vandhu enaku work aagala na.. People talk as if they invented cinema. People like Thalapathy never make movies for critics, he makes it for his fans and cinema lovers who view cinema as entertainment. This so-called critics have never appreciated when his movies were extraordinary and that's one reason why he doesn't have any filmfare, SIMA Or national award. His biggest asset and award is his fans and he purely puts heart, soul and body into it and he is worth every single penny.
Bhardwaj, you pointed it out exactly at 8.33, this is a new age cinema, audience carry the liberty to imagine some of the backstories as per their imagination like how we do it while reading novels. So I think that’s why we feel disconnected and feel some character did not have a back story or had a very small screen time.
If Parthi and Leo arent the same person, this movie could've been much better. Because since they are the same person, the emotional scene has become gaslighting scene. The family man's pure struggle to save his family has become fake. Yet the 2nd half flashback and LCU connect was a major drawback. And why leo didnt go and revenge for his sister's death right away? Why putting up a drama saying hes not leo and pretending to stay away yet he knows one day he will be recognised by Das gang? Wtf is this narabali concept?😂 First half was insanely good. Sandy and mysskin should have been throughout the film. Hope Lokesh can redeem himself in the next thalaivar film.
Lokesh already said that the trailer is the Story of the filim. As a filim lover I liked the movie very much. It is 100% worth to watch. The CGI work was very nice with that budget that work was very clear. So Leo das really is a badass❤.

He said exactly what my opinion about leo Adv 1. performance of vijay and other actors are good 2.camara and fights came out very well 3.good idea of the scene. Dis advantage: 1. The screen presence of villans is very less 2. Due to the 1st reason the story doesn't have a plot to connect. 3. As they are using big actors for a small duration role, the intensity of the character doesn't reveal. So overall, it works for fans and the normal audience, But for cinema freaks,and LCU fans will be disappointed. If the same story is written by any other director we will accept it but as it is a lokesh expectation was high and disappointed less. It's a good film but not a lokesh film(50%) .
I know kaidhi did not work for you Mr. Bharadwaj however, At least in kaithi we had an element of suspense and thriller when the sequences in lorry and police station was shown in parallel. Here no tension is built at all in second half..

Arjun's best villainism is shown in Irumbu Thirai. Splendid performance. Agree Arjun could have been utilised better enough. And instead of Vikram calling Leo in the End, If Rolex called in to threaten him like this is the moment he was waiting for and now Das and Co territory is his to manage and Leo just tells him again He is not Leo but if again he gets a call like this you dont want to see what I can do sort of thing it would have been lit. 💥💥💥
For many of us watching it first from the perspective of parthiban is not interesting but missing. When you understand leo and watch it second time you feel different and the whole watching dynamics is from the perspective of leo. Second time watch is enjoyable.
Some people can't understand the concept of universe. Not everyone's character has to have a major role in one film when it comes under a universe, their character development might happen in the upcoming films, and it might happen in the past timelines. It's already been established that LEO DAS is ruthless and powerful than the das brothers so why would you expect the villains to be more powerful. Some character might have a back story in Rolex's standalone film and there might be a connect between Rolex and Das family which might unfold the unexplained plot that we couldn't understand in LEO. This universe kind of thing is new to us, so once we get past few films, we might appreciate LEO when we see it as a part of a bigger story line. For now, things might look clumsy until the foundation is laid in the upcoming lineup of LCU films. People should understand that Thalapathy's character was his own villain, a powerful ruthless villain. He is still managing to lie to his wife and that's pure betrayal. Every time Parthiban fights, we can see his aggression from his past and it was pure evil. That switch between being a ruthless monster and a soft family guy, lying to his family, and lying to his friends and thinking that they would judge him, shows the grey shade of his character. People tend to miss these small nuances because we are traditionally attracted to a masala kind of action films, but Leo is not that kind of film. LEO Das is not like Vikram, so we shouldn't expect him to go ballistic with guns and ammos because he is not a soldier. The plot was excellent, the flashback scenes looked a bit clumsy. The pace of the first half went through the roof 🔥 and the pace dropped in the second half and stunts looked clumsy in certain areas of second half and then they finished it with a banging fight scene at the end. Some people might think that the ending fight was too long, but it justifies the fact that he took his time to fight all those 100 to 150 guys inside that factory. We should see this as a whole LCU story line and not as a separate film. People who read comics and also the ones that watch MCU & DCEU films will understand how a universe works. As I said earlier, this universe concept is new to most of our people, so let's sit back and relax and let Loki cook for us in his upcoming LCU lineups.
Lokesh laughs at the corner by watching everyone saying it is not at all worked the second half was completely bad, Just be calm and relax he just shown us a one day of Leo's flashback, Loki shown Arjun's Character, Madonna's character, most importantly the great Anurag character's end. But keep in mind it is LCU he will definitely show us the past and Ruthless things of these characters in upcoming LCU connection..
My only question sir, why are we exaggerating a film profession so much.. It’s just a movie not just this movie but all movie.. As a general audience good film or bad film, just spend a good time or bad time and move on with your life… Your life after the movie is more important than the movie.. Agreed to the review, but to be fair to Loki, when it comes to LCU, we can't show too much power to small villains, because Rolex is the final boss, so it wont be massive during Endgame if there is already bigger villain before in previous movie.. for reference MCU they tone down all villains before Thanos.. so that Endgame felt massive, so i feel Loki purposely tone down the villain so that he can show Rolex much bigger in future 😊

Bharadwaj improved very well, in his early review days he didn't appreciate much of mass films. But through various interviews with various directors he got a wider view. he is spot on for leo. I ask the same question there is a hypocrisy in this film which loki asked to choose, either choose Vijay's stardom or build pakka white and black guy. For all the buzz about leo, he toppled everything with too soft leo character building. If this same Leo, made with Kamal it would super blast pure film for sure.

Its just my opinion but the movie would have been so much better if it wasn't revealed that Parthi was actually Leo until the very end. Would have been more powerful if Vikram revealed his identity over the phone call.. Vikram literally fooled everyone and made them believe that he was dead so he could have easily seen through Leo's bullshit and drama. That way the LCU connect would have felt even more significant to the plot.. My point is, the reveal that Parthi was indeed Leo could have been more subtle, like after the phone call, he goes back to join his family for breakfast but he just does some kind of mannerism that Leo does in flashback(that only the audience knows but the family doesnt, like rolling the revolver) and movie ends right there

The emotional scene before Elisa's death could be more effective in elevating the anger and sadness. Direction style has changed according to the times. The fact that Arjun was there was a great delight to see the movie. I definitely enjoyed watching this movie. I watched in South Africa yesterday. What was amusing was ..there were almost 15 gentleman that were Indian born and maybe here in South Africa for work purposes. When the movie started these men were shouting in delight. And clapping when ever Vijay appeared on screen. It was nice because in South Africa we not used to this excitement . I will definitely watch again. Love from South Africa ❤

This film worked for me. Probably the expectations were huge and it has left people not so satisfied. Yes there were a few flaws. But even Vikram had its flaws. The flashback portion was definitely a huge let down. But there were so many positives from the film. This is the Vijay I have always wanted to see. Music was extraordinary. There were many scenes well written too. This is a much better film than master and most of Vijay’s films recently. It’s kinda shocking that people are talking only abt the negatives. Weirdly baddy said VTK worked for him and it’s one of tthe most important gangster film in Tamil, but Leo didn’t work for him. Come on guys. Don’t be so negative. Probably Vijay will stop experimenting and go back to his comfort zone and even Lokesh might start playing safe from his next film. How RRR, KGF, jailer and all works for people and Leo doesn’t work is something I really don’t understand..

Kgf RRR and Jailer had their own share of flaws but they were overshadowed by equally better scenes. Leo did have so many good scenes but the flaws overshadowed them such as having weak antagonists, forced callbacks to LCU characters, and a generic story in the 2nd half.
RRR is completely different from this film as well jailer is Rajini’s screen presence but I will compare this kgf both are similar kind of movie

In my opinion the whole movie could be much elaborated with 2 parts with more screen space for each and every charecters who where connected to the main plot and the actors with big names
The first half of the film was fantastic, a 100% Lokesh film which is way satisfying than all of his previous films. Just as we come out for the interval and go back, it seems like the director was switched. The second half is made up of not so organic fights that fill in the space which should have been used to ground the flashback and register it so that the climax takes us by surprise
I assume Harold Das is the lead for the Rolex standalone movie. This movie can't be reviewed or viewed as 1 movie, needs to be viewed as a whole (LCU). Kaithi is about the intro for "Scorpio" labeled the drug. Vikram is about identifying logistics about "Scorpio" labeling the drug. Leo is about the origin of the manufacturing of Datura. Rolex could be the link to how Datura becomes "Scorpio" labeling the drug and revealing missing links in Leo and leading more for Kathi 2 and Vikram 2.

This is the issue with casting Vijay or Rajini. Nothing wrong with them and i like them both but they have become a huge mass hero that directors are forced to make the movie revolve around them rather than all the characters revolving around the script. Simple trick in getting a movie successful is give screen space to the villan(s). The more to create a good villain. If we take all the good movies, the importance of a great villain and side characters can be seen. Nowadays people are celebrating villains and small characters in the movie. Even lokesh did it in the past with nepoleon, Rolex, santhanam, even arjun dass. I was really hoping to see amazing villain by arjun sarja or sanjay dutt. Huge disappointment.
First don’t blame the actors for that… in master also lokesh gave importance to bhavani than vijay. But this movie is supposed to revolve around the main character. Lokesh told in the interviews that this movie is abt the character steady. U just didn’t set the expectations right 😊

Leo had that potential to cross vikram and kaithi but the 2nd half ruined it. There was no need to finish both the villains all at once. If lokesh had skipped the flashback and kept leo's backstory as a mystery and killed only one of main villains for example sanjay dutt whereas arjun would also kill vijay's son for the same and somehow trisha divorced vijay for her son's loss keeping parthi broken and arjun becoming the main boss of the cartel where the last scene would be kamal hassan asking vijay to join the squad and arjun calling suriya giving the news of sanjay dutt's death would be an better ending and in second part we would get to know about Vijay's past. As it's the first installment of leo as an character in Icu they should have kept it as an open ending

I felt the same way after I watched it for the first time. The gaslighting scene was the one that bothered me the most. Then I rewatched the movie. This movie and the character is layered, and with the new perspective it becomes clear that the protagonist is Parthipan. He is a morally complex character. He tries Joshi to stop telling the backstory of Anthony Das, he emotionally manipulates his wife and gaslights her to desperately keep 'Parthipan' alive. Leo, his deluded "alter ego" is the antagonist that the whole fight is actually against.
Agree that the flashback scene was weak, but also alludes to unreliable narration. I feel the reason the Das brothers were weak as villains is because the real antagonist was Leo Das. In the end, the main thesis of the entire movie is Parthipan (the morally grey protagonist) fighting to keep Leo dead.
Parthiban is definitely a complex character. It's actually possible he didn't manipulate anybody. He seems to truly believe he's Parthiban, an ordinary Cafe owner and animal rescuer. But a series of unfortunate incidents proves to him that Leo is still very much alive. I think that's why he cries at the Cafe. For 20 years, he thought Leo was dead and he was just Parthiban. The following events are an internal conflict between Parthi and Leo. I saw the scenes with Joshi and Sathya as more like Parthi convincing himself that he was Parthi and nobody else.
But at the end, even if for a short time, Leo completely takes over. Notice how he doesn't enjoy killing anybody until that point. When he killed Harold, that was Leo. The laugh, the style, it was as if he was reveling in the violence.
The flashback,however, is the weakest link. I don't think the concept of unreliable narration works here. It comes off more like an excuse rather than a cleverly executed technique considering how bad the flashback scenes were written. If that was executed properly, Leo would have been a very good movie overall.
Also, no question of Leo Das being the antagonist because he isn't, storywise. Even if we assume he is, for argument's sake, that's not an excuse for making Antony and Harold Das as weak characters. Poorly written characters don't make for good entertainment. Imo, Antony Das had the potential to be a scary villain but was wasted.
As it stands, the first half was fantastic. The second half was average.
I might probably watch it again in theatres just for the first half. I really enjoyed it.

At this point I am bit scared if Loki is capable of a movie where he can handle all these stars in a single movie..we are expecting an Avengers level movie..but Loki clearly showed that he is not really good in including stars like Sanjay Dutt and Arjun. Sandy was a way better villain in this movie..and the backstory with the sister stuff felt like a whole different movie.
BR is like that one disappointed class teacher who expected his favorite topper student to score centum in his subject but that student has failed to score good marks.
One thing I can think of about the 2nd half is that...what if it's Lokesh's plan? To not dwelve much into the villains because of LEO 2?

Yeah, this whole idea of a cinematic universe makes it easier for the writers to make and hide mistakes. Even if Leo 2 fills a lot of holes in Leo 1, it shouldn't be at the cost of Leo 1 being mediocre.

Loki introduced a new universe (leo) coming in to lcu so they just showing leo world villain.. after this might show real lcu villains(stronger).. i dont find it forced lcu connection.. its a smooth connection of a guy going in to lcu recruited by vikram.. simple connection.. loki did a great job but we expected to much in the name of lcu.. sometimes a few character cameo is enough to introduce a new character in a universe… the prob is everyone expected a big star cameo like what loki did in vikram… there’s a difference between recruiting a new guy from a separate gang or world in to the big universe and a story which is fully involve in that lcu story.. its like marvel/dcu new character introduction movie.. for me it really worked well 4/5 ✨ .. Plus anyone noticed when maansoor will say .. konjem sonnedhuke ippidi naa muzhu kadhai terinjaa sethurevan polle? Maybe there’s a hidden story or easter egg kinda thingy
I think things went wrong in the editing table. Looks like many plot points have been removed to cut the run time. Personally I don’t mind watching a 3.5 hr movie if that’s well made. Let’s see if we can get a director’s cut for Leo.

Totally unfair reviews. I’m not a die hard vj fan, in fact I disliked beast and varisu. Vj used to be in movies like a template, 6 songs, fight, comedy and family scenes. This is a neat action thriller like John Wick. Our reviewers are over thinking to criticize. This need not be like Vikram. Vikram had Kamal, Fafa, Vj sethupathy and other elements to make it a whole movie. Vj has single handedly managed this whole movie. While many see there is no strong villain, people fail to understand that Vj has such a big negative shade in himself and managing that bad vs his good was the underlying theme of this movie. So you don’t need a big villain. Bd keeps bringing Hollywood examples, do reviewers in Hollywood keep reviewing like him?

I'm not vijay fan but the movie I watched yesterday. Do not listen to the reviewers they watch many movie everyday always they want more, like something different. As a common audience they likes it. Don't worry, definitely it will work.
The first 10 mins many ppl just focussed on the hyena scene but so many hints were missed by the audience. Eg:
1) when joshi called parthi, the name leo appears in his phone screen, which means joshi is aware that parthi is leo.
2) parthi tells anthony dass in the coffee shop that he hates cigarette smell. However in the very first scene that parthi fights the hyena, he lights up the bomb with cigarette in his mouth.
There are many more clues like this given in the first 10 mins ..
judging loki from his previous movies, there must be a reason for the flat 2nd half. Probably more plots will be revealed in his upcoming lcu movies
Thalapathy's acting was brilliant. Lokesh knew the remake of history of violence is not going to satisfy the audience, maybe thalapathy fans would've enjoyed, but to create a hype between general audience, he included 1 small character from kaithi and another voiceover at post credit, which looked like those LCU things were forcefully implemented into a standalone movie. Hopefully the connect justifies in upcoming movies

Savaram 7 and any music made settles within that so there is no new story ever made especially after 60yrs+ Tamil cinema. It's easy to be a critic, I can be too but the same person cannot make a movie!! Considering the stardom of Thalapathy there are like 360 angles the writer should think of. Bhardwaj, you pointed it out exactly at 8.33, this is a new age cinema, audience carry the liberty to imagine some of the backstories as per their imagination like how we do it while reading novels. So I think that’s why we feel disconnected and feel some character did not have a back story or had a very small screen time.

If Parthi and Leo arent the same person, this movie could've been much better.
Because since they are the same person, the emotional scene has become gaslighting scene. The family man's pure struggle to save his family has become fake.

So overall, it works for fans and the normal audience, But for cinema freaks,and LCU fans will be disappointed.
If the same story is written by any other director we will accept it but as it is a lokesh expectation was high and disappointed less.

Very Genuine Review
Some people can't understand the concept of universe. Not everyone's character has to have a major role in one film when it comes under a universe, their character development might happen in the upcoming films, and it might happen in the past timelines. It's already been established that LEO DAS is ruthless and powerful than the das brothers so why would you expect the villains to be more powerful. Some character might have a back story in Rolex's standalone film and there might be a connect between Rolex and Das family which might unfold the unexplained plot that we couldn't understand in LEO. This universe kind of thing is new to us, so once we get past few films, we might appreciate LEO when we see it as a part of a bigger story line. For now, things might look clumsy until the foundation is laid in the upcoming lineup of LCU films. People should understand that Thalapathy's character was his own villain, a powerful ruthless villain. He is still managing to lie to his wife and that's pure betrayal. Every time Parthiban fights, we can see his aggression from his past and it was pure evil. That switch between being a ruthless monster and a soft family guy, lying to his family, and lying to his friends and thinking that they would judge him, shows the grey shade of his character. People tend to miss these small nuances because we are traditionally attracted to a masala kind of action films, but Leo is not that kind of film. LEO Das is not like Vikram, so we shouldn't expect him to go ballistic with guns and ammos because he is not a soldier. The plot was excellent, the flashback scenes looked a bit clumsy. The pace of the first half went through the roof 🔥 and the pace dropped in the second half and stunts looked clumsy in certain areas of second half and then they finished it with a banging fight scene at the end. Some people might think that the ending fight was too long, but it justifies the fact that he took his time to fight all those 100 to 150 guys inside that factory. We should see this as a whole LCU story line and not as a separate film. People who read comics and also the ones that watch MCU & DCEU films will understand how a universe works. As I said earlier, this universe concept is new to most of our people, so let's sit back and relax and let Loki cook for us in his upcoming LCU lineups.
Lokesh laughs at the corner by watching everyone saying it is not at all worked the second half was completely bad, Just be calm and relax he just shown us a one day of Leo's flashback, Loki shown Arjun's Character, Madonna's character, most importantly the great Anurag character's end. But keep in mind it is LCU he will definitely show us the past and Ruthless things of these characters in upcoming LCU connection..

Agreed to the review, but to be fair to Loki, when it comes to LCU, we can't show too much power to small villains, because Rolex is the final boss, so it wont be massive during Endgame if there is already bigger villain before in previous movie.. for reference MCU they tone down all villains before Thanos.. so that Endgame felt massive, so i feel Loki purposely tone down the villain so that he can show Rolex much bigger in future 😊

Bharadwaj improved very well, in his early review days he didn't appreciate much of mass films. But through various interviews with various directors he got a wider view. he is spot on for leo. I ask the same question there is a hypocrisy in this film which loki asked to choose, either choose Vijay's stardom or build pakka white and black guy. For all the buzz about leo, he toppled everything with too soft leo character building. If this same Leo, made with Kamal it would super blast pure film for sure.
