Sorry for some misinformation here, capture and kill loot tables are slightly different. Kill loot tables in high rank include gems, which are rare drops needed for certain items. They do also come from breaking parts of a monster and as potential investigation rewards.

Thanks for clarifying this. Was about to throw a "wo wo wo wo wo..." at you. Good catch with this pinned message. Too many are trying to cap Legiana and that gem is a punk to find.

    • @findthereal12
      @findthereal12 6 років тому +19

The mistake is understandable. In past games, plates and gems sometimes couldn't be carved and the monster had to be captured. We're also still all learning since this MH game had a global release instead of us getting it a year or two after Japan.

    • @jamaicanbballah
      @jamaicanbballah 6 років тому +5

Haha literally was gonna say only kill if you need a gem. I know they can come from breaking other parts as well, but that extra chance at carve always outweighs the extra loot for capturing imo. Everyone should always look in the monster book!

Things i wishes that i knew, hunters notes? Your best friend. Dung pods? Essential on high tier content. Eating before a quest? No reason to not do and a lot of reasons to DO IT! Weapons? Not all weapons work well with every monster, for example, fighting a diablos or tall monster with my favourite great-sword is not easy as they are either to fast or out of reach. Always keep a steady supply of mega barrel bombs, herbs, honey, potions and mega potions with the auto craft enabled for them.
Never drink potions, save them to make mega potions. Before going on a hunt, check what the monsters are weak to and what damage that they deal, as well as what your armour protects you the most from and what damage that it makes worse (it makes ALL the difference when fighting... lets say a kirin as it can make the difference between a 1 shot from 200 health and a survivable amount of damage)
Use environmental traps and damage effects to get easy large amounts of damage, and keep in mind which monsters turf war with each other for more damage. Check the elementals on your weapons and see if the target monsters are immune to them, if they are then you’re losing out on a lot of damage and making it harder for yourself.
If you’re finding it hard to survive in melee ranges then switch to a bow or light bow gun until you’re comfortable that you can predict what the monster will do in what situations, then go back to melee if you’d like. Some monsters have special conditions like (will do so and so when situations X happen)
An example is when the hunters notes say a certain type of slinger ammo can break a monsters secondary armour (mainly mud armour or snow armour).
Telling a monsters health isn’t easy, so if it runs away from you, let it and you should sharpen your weapons and restore your health, and restock potions if necessary, if it tuns back to its nest and sleeps, plant bombs on breakable areas (mainly the head) and wake it it with the most powerful single hit attack you or your teammates have (mainly if not ALWAYS greatsword).
Don’t forget to keep your palicos armour and weapon up to date so that it can be a better ally to have on hunts. Remember! If the area you’re fighting the monster in is cramped then run to a wider space and lure it there. Monsters that focus on area control will have a much easier time killing you in tight and enclosed spaces, and try to keep them away from entrances/exits lest they lock you in/out of the fight.
Lastly, learn the move set of the monsters you hunt, be cautious and when you’re certain that you know how they move you can strap on your armour that you know is resistant to their attacks, slot some jewels that prevents their de-buffs and let blunt weapon users go for the heads, sharp weapons for the tails and be mindful that you don’t stagger your teammates (I’m looking at you longsword mains 👀)
Thats all the sagely wisdom that i can offer thats never going to be read on a year old video, enjoy my non existent readers and happy hunting!

I just learned how to charge my shield and sword yesterday, with 50 hours into the game. It's been a blast playing with CB and I would recommend it to anyone, especially new players. It's one of the top weapons at end game, so best to learn it early.

  • @LordZachael

I never knew how easy captures could be until my brother showed me his method. When monster is asleep throw TRANQ BOMBS FIRST before placing the trap! Monster does not wake up until you place trap and it is activated.
Doing the trap first means you run the risk of you being too slow to scroll through your full item list for the tranq bombs or accidentally using the wrong item in your frantic rush and being too slow... or other monsters big or small knocking you down... and in all these cases your trap expires, monster is now free, and you wasted your trap!
Throwing 2 tranq bombs first means for some time after, even if it wakes up cause another monster hit it, the monster you want to catch will be caught instantly if it falls into the trap. Honestly after all the failed capture quests of the past and wasted expensive traps, it made me realize how much of a moron I was for doing traps first ever! Sometimes simple tips make all the difference.

      @arthusii3024 5 років тому +17

That works assuming you didn't take too long to follow the monster and set up your plan. If they rest enough to no longer be tired, you done goofed.
I'm surprised people are struggling with capturing in world as they made it a joke. Stun traps are nearly instant to deploy, last an age and have an activate radius the size of the screen. You no longer have to hit the monster with tranq bombs, instead can just splash it around in their general vicinity... Radial menu that lets you instantly activate items.. xD you kids got it easy

Out of curiosity, did you (Jud and Gerry) start by trying it out in the tutorial section, did you pay attention to the tutorial you were given when you were using it in a hunt, or did you ignore all tutorial stuff, never practiced with it, didn't know it could turn into a bigger sword, and were confused at why you were bouncing off the enemies after a few hits? I ask because I had a friend who said he was told to start with the charge blade because it was the "coolest" weapon, and promptly never learned how to use it. It's cool, and feels amazing to land those heavy smacks on a monster, but you have to have some time to wrap your head around it.
I had a hard time trying to verbally coach my absolutely brand new friend who only plays an hour of MH once every couple of weeks in how to use the CB while in a mission and fighting a Barroth and/or a Juryatodos.

In addition, press options/start (w/e it's called for your console) to manage loadouts. Set up a basic loadout for when you want to capture and one to kill. I usually use 3 different loadouts. Elder dragons, basic hunting, and minimalist for gathering/track farming. Each of these will also have a different shortcut wheel setup. So make sure to edit that as well.

I have saved loadouts for basic hunts, difficult hunts (so adding might pills, etc), hunts in the elder stream, etc. Also, I don't max out lesser consumables. Things like herbal medicine and potions I'll take half stacks, and autocraft the rest in mission. That way, I'm generally coming back with more than I left with, and I don't have to manage stock levels as much.

    Some side notes:
Any weapon works and has its unique perks. While I recommend newer players use starter weapons, I HIGHLY suggest you pick up a weapon you can get the hang of and enjoy. Its one things to use a weapon thats easy and its a whole nother when you use one you love.
2: Know your monster. It can be very valuable in a fight to know where its weakpoints are, where its breakable, whats severable (tail), its elemental weaknesses and status effects. This will not only make some fights easier I.E. rathian, but it can also be a good way to collect materials without having to kill it completely if you cant beat it. Kind of like a way of getting out, using what you managed to get, upgrade, and get back out.
3: Fire is almost useless late game. Sure its neat damage and some weapons look cool, but because you'll be running into so many monsters that are immune to fire its best to go a bettter route.
4: Teamates can either help or worsen your hunt. I'm not gonna go into detail you can figure that out.
    5. Dont be afraid to bail on a fight if your low on RSS. Your on a map thats thrilling with herbs, honey, mushrooms, bugs, and other things that will help.
    6. Environmental awareness. You get better at this over time. This could be from knowing where vitality plants are for healing to where I can drop boulders on yhos rathalos' head.
    7. People love it when you mount. Its a good source of damage as the monster is wide open to attacks.
    8. Palico. Rely on that adorable cat
He has saved my life more times then I can count.
    9. If you can cause a turf war that will wound the monster your hunting... DO IT. This happens more often anyways in high rank with B52s and pickles running around.
    10. If yiur a dark souls veteran you probably have experience with this. Trest every fight with patience and learning. Wait for opening. Monsters do have their own stamina counter, them being exhausted slows them down and creates bigger opening between attacks.

Lore does not equal story. Destiny's campaigns have always featured mediocre stories at best, but stuff like the Book of Sorrows and Dredgen Yor's story have added a lot of lore and flavor to the Destiny world. DATTO for the inventory segment you can create "item loadouts" meaning you can click 2 buttons to automatically remove, order, and add items that you specify.
Go to manage pouch(?) in your storage box then click start and click Y or triangle to copy whatever is in your pouch to the loadout. I might be slightly off on the exact buttons to get there but its something like that.
You can also rearrange your "item bar" that you cycle through to use items by clicking start going to your item pouch and clicking Y/triangle

Great video. Just reached 1200 hours of MHW and Iceborne. Had a good time playing it during pandemic. Some little more advanced tips I wish I could've learned:
    1. Never sell all the monster materials from the start. I especially regret doing this. Cause you may need them later to craft weapons and armors. Or you may end up hunting the similar monster again and again. Especially the gems which are usually hard to get. Of course you can sell them later. You can sell them a few, like around 5-10 if you're running out of Zeni. I would keep mining and sell those ores since you can keep grinding them later during expedition.
    2. Save armor spheres for later. I regret using them all from the start. Use them for high rank armors.
    3. Study the monster's weakness. You can go talk to Chief Ecologist and click Monster Field Guide. It tells you what each specific monster is weak against. Then you can craft the weapon for that specific monster to give enough elemental damage to counter it. Like Diablos for example, it's heavily weak against ice. So you may need an ice weapon to give more damage.
    4. For radial menu, click Options, change Radial Menu Settings and Item Control Settings to Type 2, then go to Customize Radial Menu, then you can change the setup whichever you like. However this is something I missed. I forgot to save the item load out. Go to the item box and save the load out by clicking option then register for load out. This way you won't end up losing the saved version during the fight.
    5. Some items can be handy. Bring Astera Jerky (heals red/yellow portion), Nulberry and Health Boost. If you get annoyed by Lunastra for example. You can save the item load out and rename "Lunastra."
    6. Prioritize crafting your armors. Get many jewels for set decorations as much as possible. I would highly recommend to do bunch of tempered investigations. These fights can be hard, but if you fire an sos the teammates are usually really good, so this might be probably the easiest way for grinding them. For example Vaal Hazak can be annoying sometimes so what you do is basically having maxed out Effluvia Resistance. You can get it by crafting an armor that has this effect or to find the jewel like Miasma Jewel and add it to your armor. Also maxing out Blight Resistance can be handy when you're dealing with monsters that give you elemental damage.
    7. Another way to do is to create the charm and upgrade it to max. This way you don't have to get stressful when you don't have enough slots for upgrades.
    8. Tailraider Safari and Argosy port. This way you can grind some materials every time you go out to hunt and come back.
    9. Botanical Research Center. I would normally like to drink a regular demondrug, armorskin and immunizer every time I go out for a hunt. In order to drink these, you may need some specific materials like Might Seed, Adamant Seed, Bitterbug and Honey. Ivy and Spiderweb for Pitfall Traps. Thunderbug for Pitfall Traps. Sleep Herb and Parashroom for Tranq Bombs. Mega Nutrients and Mandragora for Max Potions. Godbug and Blue Mushroom for Lifepowders. This is where cultivating gets handy. You can also click Fertilize and expand amount of cultivating or speeding it up.
    10. Always bring Max Potions whenever you go out and fight. Have Mandragora and Mega Nutrients into your item slot, that way you can drink up to 5 Max Potions. You can also bring Mega Potions for backup. I once tried to solo Nergigante but at first I died very quick by its super dive while trying to drink a mega potion. Another way to do is speed eating, but you may need a jewel like Gobbler Jewel.
    11. Use voucher or gourmet voucher to get the skills like Felyne Safeguard or Insurance. This way you get less chance to fail the quest. For eating, I highly recommend to eat Veggie Platter for Elemental Resistance, especially when you get annoyed by monsters like Deviljho, Teostra or Kirin.
    12. This is pretty minor, but try to farm points to get palico armors and layered armors. If you want to look good in front of people. I would just normally keep hunting elder dragons like Nergigante and get Dragon Treasures. Or get Wyvern Tears from large monsters. Another way to do is to do a Beryl farming at Elder's Recess.
    13. Familiarize your weapon, try out different weapons and get used to the rhythm of battling. I was slowly getting better by keep dying and got help from bunch of my teammates. Not much to say :)

I didn't see these in your inventory, so I don't think you know, but the power/armor charm, stacks with the power/armor talon, and you'll want to keep all 4 in your inventory. Also, press option when in the chest and you can save a "load out" for your item pouch with triangle, you can select this load out again to automatically restock any items you've used up and stores anything that's not in your load out automatically, it's just a quick and easy way to store and restock everything.
And also, as a side note, when you get to the higher ranks, capturing isn't what you always want to do because some rewards are more commonly obtained by carving, it doesn't really make a huge difference in the big picture, but some people may get pissed if you just assume what they want.

Protip for those who don’t know: later in the game you can get powercharms and armorcharms. But 2 of each and upgrade 1 of each. Then equip all 4, the bonuses stack. For those who are skeptical, take your weapon into training and try it for yourself! With smaller numbers it won’t show, so it may not matter for a dual blade user, but it gave me buffs on some of my harder hits with my hammer. And yes, I didn’t just run 2 tests to see this. I ran 3, a control with no buffs, a test with the powertalon and a final test with the powertalon and powercharm. Not much difference, but there is a difference.

"Start simple" is solid advice, especially on new players. As someone whose played other titles my bigtime advice though is when starting out, play with the weapons. Best thing you can do is try them all to see what suits you! What's simple for one person won't for another. I was a newbie who picked the hunting horn cause it was neat and I enjoyed how it moved and the idea of buffs and that's one of the trickier weapons to master, now it's my go-to main. This game is a whole lot easier to get started on some of the tricky weapons too so don't feel intimidated to try things out!

Here's another small tip, the ring around your min-map is an indicator. The ring is non visible at the start of the hunt, before you've seen the monster. It flashes red when in combat with a monster, and turns white when you leave combat, be that either evading the monster and running, or the monster is running and leaving the area. When hiding from a monster while in combat the ring goes purple, and then white once you lose the monster. Additionally, watching the ring is very useful when mounting. When the big the red ring gets bigger, the monster is about to thrash, and you should either move or grip.

    1) Skill are THE go-to when choosing armor, you pick one with the skills that suit your playstyle the best.
    2) Defense is pretty much secondary, as long as it's appropriate for the rank it's good enough, and elementals can be ignored altogether since you aim not to get hit anyway, especially at G/Master rank where a monster can take a good chunk of your health even with the best defense and elemental res

So yeah i highly recommend sword and shield. And this is coming from someone who plays a lot f souls games so i know how hard it gets when u can't move freely and when u hit too slow. Just use it and you'll be slaying monsters like a true monster hunter and almost never get hit.

kinda late to the party, so not sure how many people will see this, but I just wanna add 3 things that I think are vital to streamlining certain aspects of the game:
1: Item Loadouts. in your item box, press "Options" (for PS, not sure what the controls for Xbone are) to acces the item loadout menu. This allows you to create a sort of save file of what items you are currently holding. so for example you want to be able to quickly empty your inventory and restock on your consumables. using the item loadout will set your inventory to look exactly as the item loadout is set, granted you have enough items to restock in your box
2: Deliveries. pretty straightforward sometimes instead of people asking you to do a quest, they ask for a delivery. to complete them, talk to the people who give bounties and investigations and go to deliveries. these are how you unlock new base camps, upgrades to the canteen, and other useful items.
3: I had a third thing in mind, but I cant remember after typing the rest of the comment...

For some dumb reason i picked up the charge blade when starting for the first time. Not very used to games with this style of combat but, I still put in the effort of mastering the combat before anything else. Now barely into the game but I play like a pro. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Pro tip use the Manage Load outs screen. Just hit start when you're in the item box. Create a few different item load outs for various conditions. Then you can quickly fill your item pouch with everything you need without micro managing it every time. Same with your armor. Make load outs for the monster you intend to fight. This becomes crucial in the end game. Love being able to quickly change my armor and items to fit the fight I'm going into. This is more difficult with great hunts but nothing is ever perfect.

As a veteran, I would consider this a pretty good set of tips :) I would rank making item presets higher than simply restocking though.
Also, anjanath can be a big wall, so don’t get too frustrated, just do your best and train some more when it comes up. As a note, you CAN kill Tobi-kadachi prior to anjanath, who has a slight weakness to thunder, in addition to the better stats of the Tobi weapons than most beginner stuff.
Though for all you try hards (myself included), it is entirely possible to kill anjanath when you first encounter him in the great jagras quest, even in the starting armor and weapons! Sadly, there is no seriously interesting stuff that happens if you take him out there

Capturing is not always better than killing. If youre going for gems/plates its usually better to carve since certain items are only carve rewards.

  • @meph1570

one more tips (for beginners), you can throw the Tranq Bombs first before you set up the trap (if the monster is sleeping), because sometimes or some monsters can escape the trap quicker before you can throw the 2nd bomb so you will need to waste another trap, in that case, throw the 2 bombs first before you wake them up with a trap under their bellies.

If you set up an item loadout(option button ps4) it will reload/unload your current inventory. It also handles your hotkeys so be wary if you change those to update your item loadout to include those changes as well.
Also if you can use a bowgun you can buy tranq ammo if you don't want to use/carry tranqs on you

It started out really fun, cool visuals and a decent story..
But the constant need to upgrade and always be on the move, took away from any casual gameplay you might have expected.
I figured I'd be challenged with puzzling creature battles.. yet discovered that this wasn't the case, or if it was then it took longer than I cared to play, for it to happen.
This was like playing a clearer version of "black desert".
Wasn't for me, but I can see where its a clear choice for people who are into the mechanics of these titles.

I ALWAYS have given up on slow paced combat games like this with super long battles that need strategic like precision. Such as Demons/Dark games, Final Fantasy XV and Monster Hunter when I was a kid but this is the first MH game I'm playing as an adult and plan on getting into it and having some fun.

I find monster interruptions something of a boon during hunts. Territory bouts between monsters give me a chance to heal, cure ailments and sharpen my weapon. At the same time my target monster is taking damage from whatever it's squabbling with.

    You forgot one. Break everything!

  • @Rey4980Xit
    @Rey4980Xit 5 років тому

Although I do not have the time spent in the game as needed for this statement, I think the capture>kill is a bit wrong. For those that don't know,
Capturing a monster will give more loot but it will be harder to break all the parts of the monster (or pick up tails if you forgot to pick them up) Which doesn't seem like much of a problem until you need that part
Killing a monster allows you to break off more parts and more time to carve and collect stuff with the downside of that other phase which may cause everything to crash and burn
My general tip is kill the monster if you need a specific part, as you are more likely to grab that part from carving that from a reward, and if you are in the arena (the arena is the one place I say capturing should be out right banned and i have personal reasons for it). Capture the monster if it is going to leave soon, you need a lot of material, or don't want to go into that last stage (or if you forgot traps)

  • @forgottenangel4706
    @forgottenangel4706 4 роки тому

    Tip for capturing:
If the monster is sleeping, pop 2 tranqs on its head then place the trap, it will instantly capture. If not, then throw a third immediately

    Monster Hunter veteran (10+ years)
Whetfish scales sharpen fasten then the whetstone, you don't need the Speed Sharpening skill.
Always check if the monster parts you need are drops, rewards or crave only.
Cultivate Might Berries for when/if you get low om crash. (they sell for 60 each)
Sell trade in items, they're there to be sold.
Always make a custom meal, you won't get the daily skills if you don't have fresh ingredients.
If you're having trouble with a monster, slow down you're gameplay, you may be over committing.

Experienced player here with 2 good weapon tips that helped me through MH: freedom unite.
Good for beginners: Hammer, Gunlance (if you are considering yourself a little experienced), All bowguns, Switch axe (again if you have little experience) and of course the long sword is my most recommended since it is so easy you are an expert just wielding it.
Bad for beginners: Great sword, Lance, Hunting horn, Dual blades are pretty easy to use but hard to learn your monsters' attack sequences and behaviors and the bow is also pretty easy but very low damage and will be hard to fend off many monsters without experience with it and/or party members.
Bonus: try EVERY weapon in the training area and try to create your own combos and play style with each weapon.

Use full tip, before crafting a weapon find out what end weapon you want example fire, ice dual blade and nergigantes x weapon. Then use that path while clearing content, and use mixes off armor. Like to have +life rune and 4x attack when doing early content if posible
