I think it's also important to note that the 'Daily' skills are based on the in-game day, not real life day. They will recycle after each completed quest.
Just after the main campaign I realised I could walk around pirate cat´s table and get his canteen upgrade quests. So I had 40 hours worth of gathering quests all at once which would have been stretched out better normally.
Fabian R. Thanks for posting this, I've beat the campaign on two characters and didn't know this. Just thought the exclamation mark was there to remind you to eat or something.
lol I made that same mistake at first but figured it out within an hour or two. It sucks they don't make it more obvious you can walk around since the Canteen buffs are nice to have.
I just wish there was an option for making custom platers that would take lets say "blue fish" or "red meat". putting these in a plater would prioritize any fresh ingredients in that category if not it would just put a regular ingredient in. this would save so much time hunting down if you have any fresh ingredients if any...
I love the video! I’m glad you guys are covering this because a lot of newcomers overlook that every thing in this game has a purpose and in depth reason for its existence.
Great video. I swear at this point I have watched more tutorials than I have actually played the actual game, but this is a great description of how the meals work. I'm done just picking Chef's Platter every time.
I know this was made 5 years ago, but still want to say thank you for putting this info, and this series, together. Brand new to MHW:I and this series has been instrumental to having a much more productive, enjoyable playthrough.
I just wanna say how much I appreciate these guides. I’m new around here, never played monster hunter, and it seems any questions I have, this channel has a video about it.
the thing about moxie is that it doesnt guarantee you survive that hit. many hits that would really take most of your health away are not single hits, like nergigante's ult or val hazaks breath. so the first 'hit' would bring you to 1 health but then the second would kill you. its only really useful if you get stunned and fire-balled or something
Wow...I’m 150 hours into MHW and I thought I knew all there was to know on the canteen...I was wrong. Thanks for the video, very informative as always! I would like to see a video on the elder melder.
Keep it up, Man. I love your videos and I appreciate all the effort you put into making really good quality content. You helped me fall in love with monster hunter years ago and I'm so glad that you're still doing better than ever. Cheers.
I think it's also worth mentioning that if you don't have any canteen vouchers you can by them every now and again from the argosy when you request trade in items.
Next video on the canteen: compilation of all the rare ingredients location, I spent a few hours last night to get all the ingredients trying to make sense of Japanese wikis.
imgur.com/a/WjkC3 Found the link for the upsurge locations (images are fairly low quality but with a bit of work you can manage to understand the minimap and location)
The "50 Stamina" from one ingredient is only later in the game after you've progressed further in the story. From the beginning if you use one ingredient to request a dish you'll get a much smaller stamina bonus from the meal.
Kenny Farren complete critical bounties from fish and ecological researchers, the optional quests, and get the account items from capturing pets, gathering spots, small monsters. Got all of the drinks 🍺
All quests complete, 4*, 7*, and 9* have 'unfinished' Complete badges. Piscine researcher, Ecology, and Lynian complete except paradise bird. Still only have 5 drinks. As far as I know, all Account items complete for HR. Guess I need to spam LR for a bit.
thank u so much for this video, i knew some small information about making my custom dish but was too scare to fuck something up and now im ready to do some custom food, that one that give a free cart ride ofcouse :P
Well let me clue ya in to what the Canteen is all about: gains! Health, sta-mew-na, WHATEVER. MAX. GAINS. - Meowscular Chef, Monster Hunter World, 2018 Serious note this was really helpful.
to be fair, there aren't that many quests/investigations where you really need to min/max right now, except for speedrun shenanigans. You still get the most important stuff 100% of the time aka atk L, def L etc. Maybe ales but well... I rather put on 2 legiana pieces for that anyways.
karts lulz thats kinda true too but i like to optimize sets if possible. Yeah atk L and such are nice but i like eating to maxamize skill sets. I do end up eating for atk/def/res L more often though because theres typically not enough incentive to eat for anything else unless im elder dragon/decoration farming and i need a voucher for whatever case, like right now.
naitomeaxst It's kinda tedious, but if you have high affection with your poogie, pick it up and place it near the handler's table. You will always get a Voucher. so every after quest you get a free voucher
Ingredients locations needs to be an investigation soon. Complete the Optional Quest :A Tingling Taste and it’s questline. Talking to various NPCs around Astera and the Research Base for their quests/deliveries, and the harvest points. The three tiers of account item gather points, plus he unique gather point that only spawns during an “flourishing or upsurge.” There are 2 per map. Finally the last ingredients come from completing the Endemic Life Researcher and Piscine Redearcher quest lines, I can’t remember if the Lynian researcher also has an ingredient.
you can find a google spreadsheet for all the different ingredients and where to get them in the MH:W subreddit, that helped me out a lot I finished the canteen 4 days ago. thanks for reminding everyone of how important the canteen really is in MH games! cheers!
Wooo, just got my final drink. It’s pretty awesome getting bonus rewards after quest. Plus if you do arena quest you’ll get vouchers so you can keep getting the buff.
I'm only missing the drink from rrrruble in the wastes Most ingredients are from quest, some are rare gathering points, there are also unique gathering points on every map that only show during increased gathering of like toughskined fruit or cacti (places with account items so 2 unique ingredients per map) that only show up in one place on the map. If the flourishing doesn't show up in certain maps you can use investigations to make points flourishing
That was super helpful! Just two questions though: what determines if ingredients are fresh? Is it just randomly determined between quests? Also, can you give more details about how the fresh ingredients and skill activation mechanics work? What do those icons/progress bars at the bottom mean? How do you read all that stuff when they are highlight or not, etc. Is there a way to know for sure (without a voucher) that skills will activate, or is it still only a chance even when those icons are filled? Thanks!
What does the "Guest" icon mean on some of the food? Also, look for a video titled "Monster Hunter World - 10 Hidden Ingredients!" to see some very rare ingredients that have certain conditions required to acquire them.
Sweet Kratos this is a deep mechanic. This is going to take some time to wrap my head around. If any one wants to share their fave recipes and why I'd like to know!
Think you could do a video on how high rank works? I just got into it and I'm hearing about all sorts of different things like high rank armor(?), It'd be a lot of help.
I think it's also important to note that the 'Daily' skills are based on the in-game day, not real life day. They will recycle after each completed quest.
This should be pinned
Life saver here
Just after the main campaign I realised I could walk around pirate cat´s table and get his canteen upgrade quests. So I had 40 hours worth of gathering quests all at once which would have been stretched out better normally.
Fabian R. Thanks for posting this, I've beat the campaign on two characters and didn't know this. Just thought the exclamation mark was there to remind you to eat or something.
I just realized this as well recently. Glad I wasn’t the only one.
Is THAT how you make the exclamation mark go away?
Errr...do the quests?
lol I made that same mistake at first but figured it out within an hour or two. It sucks they don't make it more obvious you can walk around since the Canteen buffs are nice to have.
Oh god thanks.. was wondering why the exclamation mark wont go away
So helpful. Was completely ignoring the custom platter mechanic because it seemed daunting. Not anymore thanks to you, Paradise!
I just wish there was an option for making custom platers that would take lets say "blue fish" or "red meat". putting these in a plater would prioritize any fresh ingredients in that category if not it would just put a regular ingredient in. this would save so much time hunting down if you have any fresh ingredients if any...
Ruben Fugate this is 100% the reason why I haven't set up custom dishes
I love the video! I’m glad you guys are covering this because a lot of newcomers overlook that every thing in this game has a purpose and in depth reason for its existence.
great in depth video. I would like to see one on the elder melder!
up for this!
I try to avoid the canteen as the dishes look so amazing it makes me hungry D:
Pro tip fat cat doesn’t stack with the lucky voucher! I tried it yesterday and only the lucky voucher doubled my money lol
Great video. I swear at this point I have watched more tutorials than I have actually played the actual game, but this is a great description of how the meals work. I'm done just picking Chef's Platter every time.
Paradise: *Picks food*
Meowscular Chef: So are you gonna order?
I know this was made 5 years ago, but still want to say thank you for putting this info, and this series, together. Brand new to MHW:I and this series has been instrumental to having a much more productive, enjoyable playthrough.
My boy Paradise is baaack! Thanks for the video P dizzle.
I just wanna say how much I appreciate these guides. I’m new around here, never played monster hunter, and it seems any questions I have, this channel has a video about it.
These videos are really helpful. Would love to see something on efficient use of the melder.
You should start putting maximum DPS builds versus certain tempered monsters. For example: A build for farming Teostra, Val Hazaak etc.
the thing about moxie is that it doesnt guarantee you survive that hit. many hits that would really take most of your health away are not single hits, like nergigante's ult or val hazaks breath. so the first 'hit' would bring you to 1 health but then the second would kill you.
its only really useful if you get stunned and fire-balled or something
When you want to wail on dragons but have to use that culinary diploma.
As a dnd AND monster hunter player I can say that what you eat is VERY important.
This was extremely helpful, thank you. I knew alot of these tidbits already but got clarification on several things as well. Awesome job.
Good note to have, you can also use Mega Nutrients and Nutrients to add the health back up, not always relying on Max potions.
Wow...I’m 150 hours into MHW and I thought I knew all there was to know on the canteen...I was wrong. Thanks for the video, very informative as always! I would like to see a video on the elder melder.
0:23 oh my, that meat looks so tasty
I've been waiting for forever for this video
As a long time monster hunter fan, I must say thank you for taking the time to do these things to improve the overall experience of the community.
Who knew 3 years later this man's life would be defined by talisman opening videos.
Keep it up, Man. I love your videos and I appreciate all the effort you put into making really good quality content. You helped me fall in love with monster hunter years ago and I'm so glad that you're still doing better than ever. Cheers.

I was struggling to understand how to get the various food skills before this video so thanks a bunch for clearing up my confusion.
Thank you so much for the explanation!! Most elaborate guide on the Canteen I've found so far!
Please make one episode on all skills, (armor/deco) explaining how they work
Next video on the canteen: compilation of all the rare ingredients location, I spent a few hours last night to get all the ingredients trying to make sense of Japanese wikis.
Oh it is just what is said at 2:10 XD
There's a post on Reddit with a link to an album of every location for the specific gathering points (that require an upsurge)
imgur.com/a/WjkC3
Found the link for the upsurge locations (images are fairly low quality but with a bit of work you can manage to understand the minimap and location)
docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XYvKOMGIgpoWHEyJF9o6_IVx8dpTOPRFf17DxjAnCYc/htmlview
Found the guide that the Reddit user made
Oh woah ok, a quality link I had missed on reddit but thank you I already completed my ingredient list yesterday.
Anyone notice Saltbae from the way the chef cuts and flips the meat
OMG amazing in depth video, finally i undestand the cooking part of the game! Thanks guys
The "50 Stamina" from one ingredient is only later in the game after you've progressed further in the story. From the beginning if you use one ingredient to request a dish you'll get a much smaller stamina bonus from the meal.
Great video Paradise. I have been waiting for this. Keep up the good work. See you tomorrow on stream.
Damn dude, you have so many ingredients. I'm HR95 and have a ton of drinks left to find. RIP Exchanger.
Kenny Farren complete critical bounties from fish and ecological researchers, the optional quests, and get the account items from capturing pets, gathering spots, small monsters.
Got all of the drinks 🍺
That's because all of those quest are at the research station fyi.

Someone on Reddit made this (I downloaded it a few days ago)
Optional Quest A Timgling Taste (LR G. Girros) has a questline, keep checking in at the research base to see if they have the next quest there.
thank u so much for this video, i knew some small information about making my custom dish but was too scare to fuck something up and now im ready to do some custom food, that one that give a free cart ride ofcouse :P
Nice and helpful video, keep up great work🔥👍
Great video and information mate. These are so informative and helpful. Keep them coming. Thx👍
Well let me clue ya in to what the Canteen is all about: gains! Health, sta-mew-na, WHATEVER. MAX. GAINS.
- Meowscular Chef, Monster Hunter World, 2018
Serious note this was really helpful.
I mean he's right though
and it's *wonderful*
Good Job!
I want to see how the defense and elemental resist work together.
Your videos have helped me put in 100 hours in this game. I really appreciate it
Thanks for the explanation. I got no idea what's going on with the food stuff, I just eat because the chef animations are adorable. ♥
Thanks I really needed this.
Great stuff, I just learned a lot I had no idea existed
Crazy to think that I beat a latte on without doing this. Now for fatalis well… I wanna have it alllllll!!! Thank youuu
This was a massive help thank you sooooo much.
I honestly hate how i have to use a voucher 90% of the time for custom dishes...thats my hugest pet peeve
to be fair, there aren't that many quests/investigations where you really need to min/max right now, except for speedrun shenanigans. You still get the most important stuff 100% of the time aka atk L, def L etc. Maybe ales but well... I rather put on 2 legiana pieces for that anyways.

I think this was done to promote the farming of vouchers. Definitely a good way to people to do arena quests.
naitomeaxst It's kinda tedious, but if you have high affection with your poogie, pick it up and place it near the handler's table. You will always get a Voucher. so every after quest you get a free voucher
Argel Comia what!? that seems kind of important to know!
Thanks for the very helpful guide. Keep the information flowing for relative newcomers like me.
Ingredients locations needs to be an investigation soon. Complete the Optional Quest :A Tingling Taste and it’s questline. I just started playing it again. And it is a great game.
Thank you for the video, it’s clear and easy to understand, great work.
Wow This was really helpful. No longer am I just gonna but chefs platter and bail.
Meowscular chef's swors cuts through that meat like nothing. I love those animations.
Birthday present for me! Thank you! Great help.
this is really helpful, thank you so much
you can find a google spreadsheet for all the different ingredients and where to get them in the MH:W subreddit, that helped me out a lot I finished the canteen 4 days ago. thanks for reminding everyone of how important the canteen really is in MH games!
cheers!
Very helpful :D Thanks a lot
Thank you for the great guide. It helped me lots.
Wooo, just got my final drink. It’s pretty awesome getting bonus rewards after quest. Plus if you do arena quest you’ll get vouchers so you can keep getting the buff.
it hits hard when your doctor tells you, you eat wrong just open you tube and a you tuber tells you your video game character eats wrong.
Your videos are very informative, thanks!
wow this was very useful. Thanks!
Great topic, I've been wondering
I'm only missing the drink from rrrruble in the wastes
Most ingredients are from quest, some are rare gathering points, there are also unique gathering points on every map that only show during increased gathering of like toughskined fruit or cacti (places with account items so 2 unique ingredients per map) that only show up in one place on the map.

Awesome vid, really helpfull. Thank you so much!
This video is super helpful!
I'd an investigation on how the Hunting Horn songs stacks with other boosting effects to see if I'm supporting as best as possible.
Super helpful thanks man!
Thanks!
This was super helpful. I've always just used chefs choice before now. Apparently that was a huge mistake haha.
So useful, thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!
Honestly, I'd like to see a video about the Melder, items decorations and so on.
Awesome video!
i would love to see an in depth look at the gunlance
Helped me, thank you.
Great video, thanks a lot! :)
I may be late but this is very helpful up to this date
Really informative!
Great subject. It really explains it well.
great explanation, everything contained
My favourite thing to do with the custom platter option was think "what am I craving for today?"
And then I just keep piling meat on meat on meat.
Very helpful, thank you... Now I can stop just throwing random ingredients together 😄
a very good video.. tbh all i do is pick 50hp + 50stm every hunt.. lol
Really helpful thanks
Get Poogie to love you and bring him to the right side of the handler in-between every quest for a high chance of a free meal voucher.
That's some quality advice right here
would be cool to see a build video for the insect glaive
I don’t know if you got a new mic but what ever you’re doing different for the audio keep it up, galaxies better than previous videos
Thanks for this video.
What does the "Guest" icon mean on some of the food? Also, look for a video titled "Monster Hunter World - 10 Hidden Ingredients!" to see some very rare ingredients that have certain conditions required to acquire them.
Thanks for the tip its very useful . I really didnt know vouchers can increase the skill activations lol nice cheers fellow hunter
Awesome in depth video, still the most confusing Daily Skill has to be Felyne Weathercat, nonetheless its a well made and helpful video!
Could we investigate what the Guild Cards are for and what they do or something, explain some better?
Now I’m just waiting for the vid showin* how to get all these ingredients
Wow, insanely helpful man
Sweet Kratos this is a deep mechanic. This is going to take some time to wrap my head around. If any one wants to share their fave recipes and why I'd like to know!
You should do a video on how to get all of the food ingredients unlocked
Very cool video thanks a lot :)
Think you could do a video on how high rank works? I just got into it and I'm hearing about all sorts of different things like high rank armor(?), It'd be a lot of help.
👍 thank you for this video
What would best food choice be for a solo bow user in your opinion?
I need info on this 2
