This is perhaps one of the most important productions you've ever done. As a 60-year-old Black man, I realize the importance of having this procedure (I've had two done in the past). Your good name and this platform will reach so many people... and you just might have saved more lives than you will ever be aware of. Everyone - please take your health seriously, and be proactive. During the whole video I had the biggest respect to Will for showing us his colonoscopy. It's a procedure few people want to do and even less wants to talk about, especially guys, especially black guys. So to see Will Smith doing it is very very impactful, so I really bow to you for that. But then at the end it reveals that they even found a polyp!! So it went from "Wow, Will is such an amazing person who actually shows this procedure for us" to "Woooow.... it was really good that they did that then... this procedure really is necessary.....". thank you so much, Will! ❤

If you're an average, healthy person, you're not going to be under anesthesia, and you don't get any drugs at all (this was my experience, at least). They give you a pair of shorts with an opening in the back and tell you to lay on your side. The funny thing is, having a colonoscopy about three years ago is actually a fond memory of mine because I got to see my insides in super-HD; parts of me that had never seen light before, while the doctor explained what we were seeing on the screen which had the live camera feed and a 3D representation of how the camera chord was forming within my body. Aside from about five seconds of slight discomfort as he was adjusting the chord, I felt no pain at all. All was well, and I have zero fear of the next inevitable check-up. I'm now realizing that I am replying to the wrong comment, and I have no idea who I was trying to reply to :P ..but there it is. It’s August 19th, 2020 as I sit here watching this video, in my bathroom, in the throws of a colonoscopy prep. As I attempt to distract myself from the carnage, I wanted to thank you Will. Sharing your story is both informative and entertaining. I pray my experience tomorrow will be as positive as yours was.
@@monkeywkeys3916 the prep is preparing your bowels for the colonoscopy. In order for your doctor to be able to see the insides of your colon, you have to clear out all of the stool by consuming a variety of laxatives and “bowel prep”. Each physician has their preferred cocktail of vile nectar. It is a most unpleasant experience, at least it was for me. But necessary in order for the actual colonoscopy to be successful.
Great Job for Sharing your video. I had my second one done in February of 2022 everything was Okay. Again you are indeed one Great person for doing what you did and letting the world know that we all need this done in your life. Thanks Will Smith.
Had a colonoscopy done in March of this year due to family history. They found polyp with very little if any symptoms, exact circumstances as Will Smith here. Please don’t be a hero and get this procedure done, if they find one? they remove it and as long you monitor every couple of years chances of you getting this disease is literally none. Thank you for doing this vlog, since my procedure lots of what ifs went through my head.
I just turned 50 and although there is some anxiety that goes with this procedure I’m very happy I did it, I’m blessed that nothing was found and I was told to not return for another ten years. I’ll be honest it was completely painless and it’s over before you know it, I encourage all men to take the best care of themselves because we only get one shot at life...AMEN...AMEN...AMEN
@@monkeywkeys3916 it went well. Just keep in mind that the prep is so, SO much worse than the procedure. Make sure the day before prep, have a low residue diet. Like broth, cola, juice, anything that you can see through. During the prep drink lots of water to keep hydrated. If they tell you to use peg-lyte for the prep, get Pico Salax instead. With that one you don't have to drink 4 gallons of prep, just two glasses and juice and water after that. They will most likely give you a cocktail of drugs to keep you comfy during the procedure. I can't do that anymore since they have to give me double just for me to be relaxed. Since then, in the future and the last scope, they put me totally under.
@@Gaetano.94 you’re right about the prep. That’s the worse part. Drinking that stuff that cleans out the colon. I remember the day before my procedure my cut off time for eating solid foods was 2pm. So the rest of the evening, night, and early next morning nothing but clear liquids I drank. Water, ginger ale... After the procedure the next day i made up for the eating I missed. From pancakes to burgers...
I swear Will Smith ages so gracefully. Like how are you still as handsome now, if not more, than you were on the Fresh Prince?! Hella excited for your new movie Bad Boys For Life!

Really good to know all you can about your health even though it does scare some people. Get as many tests and evaluations as you can. Live long and prosper. Also. Polyps are not generally cancerous. They are not supposed to be present though so it is nice to have them snipped out.

I’m 24 years old and I’m having this procedure tomorrow. I’m going through the “prep” phase now and I was nervous about it, so I decided to type “colonoscopy” into UA-cam to try and learn a little more about what’s happening. I had no idea I’d find Will Smith going through this same sorta thing. I just wanna say thank you for helping me learn more about my procedure and I’m glad your result was an overall good one! I hope my results are good as well
Turns out I’m in the same boat as Will. I had a precancerous polyp and have to get checked every 3 years now. Glad I didn’t let it get any worse. Don't worry about it. I'm had one 3 weeks ago. I'm in the UK and you don't get anesthetic. You do have the option of being sedated but I chose not to. I just used Gas and Air, Entonox. Will Smith continues to amaze me. This was one of the best usage of social media I've seen in a long time. What is The Prep?
@@monkeywkeys3916 the prep is preparing your bowels for the colonoscopy. In order for your doctor to be able to see the insides of your colon, you have to clear out all of the stool by consuming a variety of laxatives and “bowel prep”. Each physician has their preferred cocktail of vile nectar. It is a most unpleasant experience, at least it was for me. But necessary in order for the actual colonoscopy to be successful.
Your doctor she's so beautiful and caring you are lucky to have her we need more caring doctors such as herself.

I'm 27 and today will be my 20th+ time getting it.
@@Gaetano.94
20th. Yikes I'm speechless. I'm concerned about my first. I'm having issues.
Amen...!
