  • In advance of a Sunday live this is what I would have done on the day to explain what I am doing and how I am doing it, mostly! Of course the spark of inspiration and happy accidents are another thing entirely - but this focuses on how chances of good things can be improved!

This was a fantastic walkthrough! Thanks so much! You've made a great sounding system with a lot of flexibility. Well done!

Excellent. Still hoping to build a smaller Berlin style version. Thank you for your assistance and knowledge.

Thanks Greg - a lot of my older videos of Berlin School were using much more slimmed down version eg: ua-cam.com/video/YNuecvzjbOI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=GaryPHayes

Thanks for a great breakdown of your workflow. As someone new to modular it makes me realise that I’m still very much in the overwhelm stage. I have a good rounded setup in my view, but I don’t have a clearly defined workflow or treat my system is a discrete all-in-one synth. Feels like a long road ahead!

Thanks FS - yes this rack is a simple modular one and aimed at a very specific genre I suppose. I think my more sophisticated rack and likely yours, really requires some thinking about flow, even down to best placement of modules for patching relationships - in fact I am getting a little OCD over that, but it is definitely paying off now and speeds up my patch from scratch flow on that rack ... have fun!!

I like the Behringer 902 amp modules. They have 3 controls inputs, and 2 pairs of signal in/outs with both polarities, plus linear and exponential responses. Amazing value VCAs.

Yes would enhance the output section here for sure!

Thanks Jim - pretty basic modular mixed with semi-modular, but certainly a lot more complex than a piano :)

Great talk through on you technique and workflow Gary. Make me realize how much I am NOT using some of my modules to their full potential. Must do some re-cap and deep dive into my system. Thanks my man.

Cheers Phil - we are all guilty of not using our gear to the full potential for sure! - key is to put the time and practise in to as you say, keep digging deeper.

Great sounding system. You seem to prioritize playability. I like the way you explain what each hand is doing at each point. Great dexterity on the West Pest and dual kbs. The Solina sounds great. Very few cables, which is great.
I love the access Behringer is bringing to vintage synths. Never thought I would be able to afford a Mini...then i got the Model D for 400 bucks and things spiraled out of control. Looking forward to the Synthi copy.
Thanks for sharing your synth thoughts and techniques. Keep them coming please.

Cheers SMH - totally re: access to vintage synths and after all we are paying homage in many cases to the bands that could afford them back in the day! Appreciate you noticing I am very focused on the musical technique aspects too!

Hi Kevin - this was more of an overview about playability so prob didn't mention it ... I am using the latest Phazerville firmware (a dev of hemispheres) and on one side the dual quantizer and on the other EuclidX for two channels triggers for drums.
