As a sourcing manager here in china, the MOQs (minimum order quantity) and prices are lowered on Alibaba just to attract the initial conversion of a buyer. The MOQs, pending on the product, will most likely be in the 1000s to reach the advertised price. My estimate for dog clippers to be bought at 2 dollars would need at least 500 MOQ and that's without shipping, which would be expensive as it would be shipped LCL (less than container load).
Lewis: Regarding Jingle Jam; welcome to sales. You are doing something very similar to my job. No matter how great the opportunity you have for them you will be shot down by people you will never interact with. It is a difficult job, but I appreciate you doing it for the Jingle Jam.
They're correct at the end on the smart-watch thing - The more niche/unknown materials used to make things like phones and smart watches cost around 10x what the overall cost of the product is, and it's a massive contributor to the unsustainability of ore mining internationally.
The trick of company loyalty is that in major companies it's like Sips said; tricking you to financially invest in the company AND to develop real relationships with immediate co-workers and managers who are on the surface invested in your individual success. The problem is that the people immediately available to you and are invested in your development are not the people who make staffing cuts, and screw over the honest workers its the executive level people who decide what their employees are worth.
Got married with the girl i met on Tinder, been together for 7 years and have a 2 year old daughter, always funny to see people on a podcast talk about it

I have my old bed from university as the guest bed. It's a twin sized bed, memory foam so it's pretty comfortable at first. But prolonged use of it becomes unbearably painful. I dont know why honestly, it's a Casper mattress so you would assume it would be great, but it's the worst bed I've ever had. Guests are always like, "that bed is amazing I've never slept so good in my entire life" the first night. Any night after that it's nothing but complaints about back pain and sore spots "I've got to get out of here before that bed sucks what youth I have left out of me." It's the perfect guest bed for real.
It honestly is a great analogy. It sucks because you kind of have to let the other guy go to the bigger guy with that glass. Because if you take the full glass of water to the big guy and the other guy didnt get a sip it's a problem. People assuming you went over their heads or didnt trust them to pass it along.
Regarding the conversation around 59:00 about Dev's being a product of their time, It appears to be a technical issue in general. Personally I work in an IT call center and over the last few years I've see plenty of situations where someone gets promoted up to a point where their ideas can get implemented (team leaders, project lead, etc) and i've found that a large number of people just lose track of whats going on at the ground level. Time and again you'll see a newly promoted person enter a role where the norm becomes meetings and discussions rather than practical action relating to the issue\problem\inspiration and they just... don't see the system change around them i guess? I suspect this is a big part of the problem with Devs, and its one that's always going to affect larger companies, when they start to need more and more layers of oversight to manage effectively. It also makes situations where your Peter Molyneux's can spawn - the person that doesn't understand the practical limitations because he chose to stay down at the lower levels of concept design, over being working in a place devoid of inspiration.
I as I imagine many others would, would still donate to the Jingle Jam even if there was no bundle. Yogscast give me free content all year and its for charity, its the least I can do.
