Had a breakdown when I was 22. Honestly looking down that breakdown. That low moment honestly shaped my then future, now present in such a good way. It made me realise my goals, aspirations and what really mattered in life. So if you ever feel lost don't stress, sometimes its just a part of life.
I've been listening on podcasts lately instead of YT, but I just wanted to say that your discussion about jobs and being young helped me out today. It just so happened to be the second time I'd heard it, while doing chores, and its helped my outlook of my own future to be a little more positive. Thanks.
16:50 tfw Lewis describes your exact life rn. Like I'm set here playing videogames after just finishing a shift in my temp job, while living at my parents in the countryside, watching all my friends buy houses and shit, feeling like I'm wasting my life. Fancy hiring me? I could be the next big thing too...
At least you have a job, I moved country right before corona and now there's a mass unemployment crisis and companies will only hire locals so I'm physically unemployable, also too old for free education and too poor to pay for it. Could be much worse
@@HellBent_ even if it wasnt corona, some of us cant work for health reasons, but non the less we dont mean to say "oh people have got it worse" but more, "could be worse work on it?" see what you can do in life, the world is a half open oyster and one halfs not for you
Throwing coins in a well comes from a tradition when coins were made from real copper and silver. These metals have antimicrobial properties and people knew they would purify a source of water, though at the time they didn't know why and assumed the metals had a blessed quality to them. Similar rituals for blessing water included letting it rest in copper vessels or rinsing it through silver dishes.
on the topic of dream jobs, I have worked in in multiple factories operating machinery, then as a shop clerk selling second hand phones and accessories (imagine watto from the phantom menace) then at a hardware store where I met a bunch of cool people, and one of them was a carpenter. we chatted here and there when he came in to resupply on hardware and I mentioned that I have always been interested in woodworking and carpentry. he gave me his number as I have contracted him when we moved to a new house, he made our kitchen furniture. then about a year ago he gave me a call and told me that one of his guys quit and asked if I was interested. quit my current job the same day and we've been working together ever since. I love my job, I love making furniture, my son is due in april, life is good :)
This podcast has really helped me feel better im going through alot at the moment issues with work, relationships and just feeling really down thank you so much
I went to college for printmaking, had a shitty college job, graduated with a degree in art. Interned with a print shop while getting a post collegiate degree and now work in a print shop. I’ve never worked a day in my life. Dream job
As a signalling engineer on the railway, that hasn't been in the industry that long. The few times I've heard Lewis talking about his brother always fills me with dread...
@@thebeav111 I'm also alot more hands on, and seem to do alot more than his brother sounds like he did, but then again I've also met those maintenance guys, and never wanted to go down that route.
I worked in a cinema when I was at uni. About 10 years later I went there to watch a film and saw 3 people I used to work with. Can't imagine doing that job for more than a year.
Yeeeeeesssss. I was literally just about to get in the car and was scrolling through the episodes to find one I hadn’t listened to recently. The timing is perfect.
This might be the most relatable episode ever. When Lewis started talking about simple chores to satisfy a mood wherein he otherwise felt pretty down I instantly recognised myself starting to take up chores around the house, tidying things up me or my parents hadn't got to. Pretty cathartic and gives you the feeling you're contributing to seomthing, how small it may be.
I know exactly how Pflax feels. Offices are filled with the worst types of people, the amount of sociopathic types who abuse their management positions is insane.
Lewis wants Enders game style factioria setup where he thinks he is just playing a game but is actually using robots to build the factories of the future...
I am a programmer and I feel like its a bit of a game, exactly what Lewis described. You have to think, optimize, find where mistakes are, sometimes I go back after I learned something and improve it etc. However if you work for a big company deadlines can be stressful. But as a hobby its also very rewarding seeing your creation work.
As someone who left university with a genetics degree and is currently stuck working in construction, this made me feel a lot better. Thanks lads. I guess as they always say, good things come to those who wait.
I'm in my 4th year doing a chemistry masters degree, and it was really helpful to hear of people that didn't get it all sorted straight away. I feel there's a lot of pressure to immediately get a graduate job.
If you go to the doctor with a suspicion of a specific diagnosis, and the doctor says you're too young to get tested for it, ask them if they're willing to mark that down in the chart. That way, if the problem becomes more serious later, the doctor can be held accountable for negligence. Just a tip I remember from somewhere. Feel free to correct me if there's anything wrong with this advice.
Look, I get it, everyone has different situations, and it's silly to judge. But I had a terrible warehouse job, and I worked on my master's degree in the evenings, and now I'm a CPA. I love my accounting work! A bad job doesn't mean you have to get drunk all the time. And now I have an autoimmune disease, likely triggered by the stress and sleep deprivation. I've barely been able to hang onto my job lately, and I might have to go on leave for a while. Hmm. Maybe I should have just been getting drunk.
Funny to hear about Lewis' ring fit experience, I've been playing it since new years and I can see why he struggled with it, I'm 19 and it can be a decent workout lol

Lewis chest problems. I've had pain my chest for over a year now. 111 have told me to go to A&E 4 times last year with the same pain and everytime I was just told to go home and come back if it gets worst. 111 wants me to go back but due to covid I don't wanna risk it just be sent home again
This podcast hit too hard. I'm currently working in a job which has no future - but they keep paying my salary even if we don't have work for weeks. We though laugh about it and joke that any sane person would have left the company years ago, but we're just too dumb to leave or have the patience of a saint.
42:15 Tylenol #3, which is acetaminophen (paracetamol for brits) and codeine, is a scheduled narcotic in the US. This means it requires a prescription. It has been this way since the 70's i believe, and its because codeine is very addictive. it doesn't make you crazy super high, so i think people tend to not get addicted to it. But if you want to abuse a drug, having that around over the counter makes it real easy. If you live near the canadian border though, you can just buy it over the counter there. i believe it is now illegal to bring it back, although you used to be able to bring back a few bottles. I'm on the fence if codeine should be controlled or not. most people weren't abusing it because it said right on the bottle that you will fuck your shit up if you take too much. Having it require a prescription means most people will just go straight to hydrocodone (or something stronger) because it is the same amount of hassle. Doctors rarely, if ever, prescribe tylenol #3 these days and instead will toss out tramadol (super super addictive) or hydrocodone (also super addictive). Tramadol is still listed as a non narcotic pain killer in most places in the US, and official it is listed as having no addiction risk. This is completely insane because it is arguably MUCH stronger than hydrocodone.
What's funny is I felt so secure in my early twenties. Was a firefighter in a long-term relationship who thought he had it all figured out.
