    I feel for Lewis, dementia is a terrible thing to watch someone go through. I looked after my mother for about 5 years as she slowly lost herself to it. Sips is right about the door to door people who try to take advantage, they are monsters, I’m just glad I was there to get rid of them. She’s in a nursing home now in a very bad way after a bleed in the brain. I hope she’s ok inside her dream world. It’s hard to know in the state she’s in.

    My Mother died from a brain aneurysm just before Britain went into lockdown earlier this year. We were just about to order a takeaway before they closed. She sat down to wait for my brother to come downstairs to see what he wanted to order and then complained of a really bad pain in her head. After about 10 minutes it hadn't gone away and she was really starting to sound worried so I went to get the phone to ring for an ambulance. But by the time I got back in the room she was gone. Yes, it's brutal to witness someone just go like that but I often think it would have been harder to see her deteriorate slowly from some other nasty disease or be in pain for many months before passing away.

      I'm so sorry, that must have been (and still be?) really difficult for it to be so sudden, but hopefully there is some consolation in her not suffering in a drawn out way. I hope you're managing

    • @WhitemaneDesign
      @WhitemaneDesign 4 роки тому +3

      Thanks for your concern guys. Don't worry, I am managing just fine. I have a very supportive family that all live close by and absolutely no regrets when it comes to my mother. She was a wonderful lady, we had a great relationship, there was nothing left unsaid between us and the time we had together is full of nothing but happy memories. Sad we couldn't make more but I'm very, very lucky to have had that and I think that has also helped me deal with the grief.

      A classmate in band had one probably 10 years ago. They were out doing practice out on the field and said he didn’t feel well and had a headache and then dropped. Luckily they were able to get him air lifted from a small rural community and to iupui an hour drive away and he made a full recovery. I was at the scene I was at college at the time in Indy. I never heard of them before that event and now I get instant anxiety every time I hear about.

    I can answer your music composer conundrum (as a composer). Its not that we don't want to be/aren't creative, its that we can't afford to be. We have to impress these companies and people with what they know and like, or we risk not being hired.
    The whole industry is a problem, not the individual. How many times have you (the yogscast) used royalty free music or library music? Exactly... you and everyone else rarely hire people like me, so when we do get work, we have to make sure its exactly what they want and can't risk being ourselves, or we don't get repeat business, or any business at all

    love the war stories from lewis this episode. Sadly, it makes me realise that the time my older relatives where still alive, i didn't really care about any of those old stories or anything, was too busy just being a kid. But, my god, i wish i could sit down and listen to some old stories now. I remember being at my great grandma's funeral and hearing other family members speaking about all the things she'd done in her life, war stories, multiple times where she had done some really amazing charity work, she was even a model just after the war. I didn't even pay attention to any of that when i was young, and I really wish i had. The only story i remember from my nan was the time in ww2 that her aunt was sick of having to go out to the shelter in the garden almost every day, due to air raids, and one day she decided she wasnt going to leave her house anymore since "we havent been hit, and we wont be hit." and that night, the house was hit almost directly with a dropped bomb.... Anyone reading this, with older relatives, next time you see them, or speak to them, just ask them to tell you about some part of their life, maybe ask their favourite memory or something.Keep their memories alive!

    I feel like I should weigh in on the advertising debate, since I briefly worked in the industry. The reason most of the ads are so bad is the fact that whoever commissions it has no idea what's actually good but they think they know. The "creatives" are then forced to change their ideas until it matches what the employer had in mind. The creative is essentially forced to make something bad to please the employer and keep their job. It's not always like that but it's a common problem

  • @Hoppa_Joel
    @Hoppa_Joel 4 роки тому +7

    P-Flax is right, the people in advertisement, aren't creative, and the reason, is they hire based on a degree not on an artists skill.
    Artists with real talent, aren't given an opportunity.

    • @MrS4TURN9
      @MrS4TURN9 4 роки тому +1

      Artists with real talent don't fit the mold

    • @earlgrey2130
      @earlgrey2130 4 роки тому +2

      Let me give you a reality check here. P-Flax is right about advertisments being shit because they only do what is proven to work. But the reality is that it WORKS. There is no point in doing anything different. You are paid to manipulate people into buying shit. You know how to manipulate brains. So they do it. That's it. Nobody said advertisment was a creative industry. Those days are long gone.
      And when it comes to artists.. guess what. They are hired on their skills. I have a masters in design. And nobody has ever given a shit about that degree. It's all about your portfolio. Artists with "real talent" as you call it are given all the opportunities in the world. The problem is that it's not about talent. Being succesfull as an artist takes 10% talent, 30% networking and people skills and 60% hard work. And the pretentious snowflakes who think their talent is enough, they do get the opportunities but not the jobs. Because they are lazy. That's the reality.

So far in the two or so weeks we've had it, I know we've put on classic Doctor Who, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, and Blackadder. It's possible she's watched other things on her own time, but those are the ones I know she's seen.

    Hey Pflax, American who’s never been abroad here.
    I don’t watch whatever Holby Street is. But I do have britbox and I would say 80% of my favorite comfort tv shows that I watch over and over are BBC and I more often find when looking for something new to watch I gravitate to BBC shows over US shows. I just feel our shit is more fluff. In my experience, we have so many shows that run forever and are totally forgettable where all the BBC shows I love are short series runs but every episode is memorable for whatever reason.
    Only thing I could thing of that may have planted bias is I have an aunt who married an Englishman and I’m really close to my English cousin so English media isn’t foreign to me.

    I love lewis so don't get me wrong here, but I hate the way he changes subject when Sips or Flax is saying anything really but when it's juicy and I'm 100% agreeing and they're talking about something other than Top quality Dad Chat, which is good too but I go in and out. Then say Sips is the one talking and it's about some hearty real life shit, he pauses for response or maybe just a half sec to think and Lewis just comes in with Soooo*croak* enough time to make sips slow down to hear lewis' opinion and gets...
    "I've been watching some TV recently"

    Interesting, I am never really scared of the premise of Religion being real. I am an Aithest, so I find any supernatural anything just fantasy and something people use to cope with tragedy.
    If the devil appeared in front of me, I would actually be pretty happy. Because it would suddenly mean, all the evil people would actually be punished, and good people would go to heaven. (however good or evil would be qualified who knows)
    I like that premise, I just don't believe its real.
    The real world is scarier than any fantasy for me, that for all our intelligence, and all our lust for life, we are all temporary, blips in an uncaring universe, we get one shot at life, and after that its just back to nothingness

    i absolutely agree that it is outrageous cheek of the fucking bbc to think that its reasonable to have us paying the tv licence and then expect us to pay for britbox. especially since they are now releasing brand new content on there like 'spitting image'.
    im not saying that the new spitting image is worth crying over but its absolute cheek to assume people will pay TWO god damn times to watch spitting image. because bare in mind the bbc is affiliated with the program so you cannot watch it on britbox without having a tv licence.

      @@TheRattletrap virtual youtuber, basically people who have anime/cartoon animated avatar that they substitute for their real life face. They use a tracking device to animate their real life movement. There are different types of Vtubers, but some of them try to play a character while staying anonymous. They are popular in Japan and there are some companies like Nisanji and Hololive which hire them for their own vtubing network.

      Lewis might know since Simon is a regular guest of CodeMiko who's a vtuber. They streamed yesterday for example and it was quiet a riot.
