Is it already an AI WAR in pro audio? GOYO vs Acon Digital vs Clarity VX BATTLE!

- Hellooo, everybody! People kept repeating: GOYO is great, test it out, so I finally did. I compared it to its closest competition, which is Acon Digital and Waves right now and asked a question: is it already an AI/machine learning war on pro audio market? Let's find out!

Hellooo! What do you think about my test? Are you a GOYO user? Did you choose something else? Let's talk!
i use C-Vox by UAD it’s great
I use Acon Denoise from the Restoration Suite. I still have Clarity VX, but there is no much artefacts
Goyo is no longer free sadly.
I listened to your test through good headphones and found that:
- Waves plugins definitely created the most unnatural artifacts on the vox on both the de noise and de reverb tests.
- I though GOYO had the least artifacts on the de noise, but did a poor job on the de reverb.
- With both tests considered Acon was the best overall.
Appreciate the comparison and video!
Thanks!
Great comparison video!
When listening to your denoiser test results on headphones I came to the conclusion that both Goyo and Acon Digital preserve the spectral balance of the signal the best, but Acon Digital also got rid of more background noise than Goyo, where certain noise fragments randomly seemed to popup out of the silence sometimes. Clarity changed the sound but not always for the worse and it also reduced the noise better than Goyo. I like Goyo and I appreciate that it's free though.
When running plugins in parallel for cpu tests make sure to have the same amount of instances per track in every test, because every track might be utilizing different threads.
I've played around with Goyo a bit, not compared it to anything else. It's very impressive, but it does struggle with whispers - without an obvious "voice" component to the sound it often decides that the whispered speech is actually background noise.
Keep it up my Friend!!!
Thx, James!
Great review however.....I am currently comparing the sample you used with Acon and Clear and Clear came out ahead. Acon left a noise artifact which emerges as soon as talking is ceased even for a moment. Could it be that Clear was improved since your review? I'd welcome everyone's experience with this please. (Iam usign trial versions of both plug-in's)
Anyone compared the results to the stand alone software HUSH??
Thanks for this review! I wonder if there's a big difference between the GOYO free beta version and the later non-free version. I could only test the latter and I was very impressed. IMHO compared to Acon Digital it sounds more natural. Acon Extract Dialogue tends to attenuate some quieter parts of a phrase. It's hard to describe... And it probably depends on the spoken language.
To me, there seems to be less whistling or jingling of the "S" 'es in Goyo. No matter what the noise or reverb levels turn out to be, in a mix, you can really hear those jingley "S" es much more than the reverb you are trying to get rid of. Whistling or jingling "S" es sound terrible to me, and that's where Goyo seems to be the smoothest.
Goyo supertone....I’m curious about the sound of acoustic guitar. Because the guitar has a shorter attack and longer release sound than the voice... can we really separate the noise?
hi, great video.i have a few questions. 1.which microphone did u use for this video 2.will it support with iMovies
1. You mean my mic? It's Sennheiser MKE600.
2. If iMovie supports AU/VST3, you're good to go. Read the manual of iMovie to learn more about it!
It is very rare that dialogue mixers will try to eliminate all the noise. It is far more common to blend it with the backgrounds. You only ever take out as much noise as you need to, which can be very little.
Of course, I rarely go more that 30% of denoisinig on any tool I use. I just thought it would be good for testing purposes to squeeze the to the max to show what the can and can't do. Cheers!
Nothing beats a FREE app period.
I just started recording but still have to learn the basics. I was just wondering if these plugins like acon or Goyo could be a gamechanger to record music? For now i record in a room that is has no acoustic treatments because of budget. So if i record a vocal (singing dialogue) or a guitar could the plugins help for music recordings?
I believe that if there's no option for a treated, isolated room for you, Acon Deverberate and Waves Clarity VX should be your choice and yes, they can help, but won't change your voice to a real studio recording. Cheers!
Did you try dereverb in Spectralayer in Cubase? How do you like it compared to VSTs?
Not yet!
Goyo still in beta version. If you download the beta version you get a great discount $70 off. The plug-in will be $99 and it’ll have more features.
I tried Goyo (or better said the current clear version) on a recording of speech in a church with lots of reverb. The plugin totally fails on improving or extracting the voice totally.
Are there any recommended plugins for removing reverb from non-dialogue audio? E.g. Foley recordings?
Acon Deverberate is the best one out there!
how about accentize dx revive pro?
That is the more closed to supertone clear
my ears thought the waves had a chorus y effect
Yep, it reconstructs the voice in quite artificial ways sometimes...
goyo kills those out the gate without much tweaking…imagine running those lightly in series you probably wouldn’t hear a thing
Well, frankly? Acon kills Goyo with no tweaking, a single instance and it's more than 10 times CPU lighter...
@@FoliaSound hmm but it’s freeeeee tho
Yes, and it's beta, so there's a large chance it'll improve over time and the real AI battle between companies will start for good!
@@FoliaSound exactly! I use C-Vox by UAD and it’s scary good
It's an algorith by Cedar, which used to rule de-noising market with no real competition for many years. Ask any film post studio - Cedar used to be everything...
Siema! 💪
Eloelo!
Wave clarity vx pro
Goyo seems NOT to be free any more as of 2023-08-13. At least it will not download.
So the search goes on. I wonder which one is feasible based on price/performance.
I just downloaded it for free a few days ago. And I just checked the website - still says it’s a free beta
Broke my CPU
Not working
Cool chan.
Thanks!
Cześć!
Siemaaa!
waves clarity is the clear winner, but it sounded better on Broad 2 and 100% is way too much, that's why you're losing the details
How about Acon? I still like it more...
@FoliaSound in your last test I thought you said clarity won over acon. I know a lot of people dislike waves but I think it's due to their policies & not their plugins. They're not my favorite developer but there's a few things they do better than anybody. My 2 cents anyway
Acon
I think it's all question of what "better" means in this context. For me, sounding natural is the most important factor. For sound for movie there's ambient sound anyways... Therefore dialogues do not need to be "denoised to death". It's more important that they sound natural.
