I've been using a 23 R1 since Feb 24, just touched 6000 miles , put heli bar riser on, ride all day no worries, its just Fun, I know it makes no sense on the road, but whi cares, it's hilarious.
Imagine riding an R1 in southeast Asia like the Philippines where the average speed on the highway is 50mph on a good day. I know guys with an R1 (XSR 900 myself) and it just feels wild blowing by thousands of people on scooters.
I know they're probably too much for the roads these days but i'm really sad to watch the demise of 1000cc superbikes(not that i'd ever be able to afford one new). I'm just happy there'll be a steady supply of used examples but I do worry for the used prices if they don't eventually make a return. Pretty much every day I regret selling my RSV4 RF.
What ? Are you talking in Europe ? Here in the USA nothing has changed with regards to liter bikes. All that changes is them getting further and further north of 200 hp
@sharathvasudev I'm an old git so I put a new top yoke and Renthal Superbike bars on. It has transformed the bike. It's absolutely brilliant now I recommend this to anyone over the age of 30 😁
I stress out about bikes losing value. My brain I think has just been brainwashed by the consumer world where we're told if we put to many ks it's worth nothing, if it's a couple years old it's obsolete because the next model has 3% extra power that you dont even notice. How do you guys maintain your "nah I'll die with this bike" I long for that one and done mentality.
Love the R1, it's a monster! That being said, because I'm a two stroke guy I'd choose an R6 for it's high r.p.m power band. Rode all kinds of bikes, never could get used to the low end, mid range torque of the big inline four strokes. It's just what I'm accustomed to, keeping the revs above 6,000.
Yeah...the R1 is all business, watching this I miss my old 2004 20valve R1 😢 used to be so comfy on the highway, but a real bastard in traffic (palms, arms and back 😢)
I had a test ride of one of these many years ago. Was terrifying when trying to rev it out. Gorgeous engineering but appropriate for the track not road imo. Rode a honda blackbird when they came out and that too was terrifying when trying to meet max revs in 3rd. I remember thinking my brain can’t keep up. The TT guys ride them flat out in 6th😮
I'm looking at buying one. Install some bar risers and just use it occasionally. Pointless for the road I know. But it's better looking than the MT10.. Can see them holding value well.
Your roads are nuts bro. Surprises around every corner. Hell, there are surprises on the straights! Looks fun but isn't it dangerous riding on roads like that?
It's all about what you're experienced with, you learn what to look for on the roads you ride. But it's also why you should find reviewers who ride on similar roads to you, I know I find a lot of American reviews confusing when they talk about gearing being a bit low for freeway speeds, feeling like 600 or even 800's are a little small and so on when i live in New Zealand, very similar roads to the UK, and going over 120hp slowly gives a worse ride as you're not going fast enough for the bike to be happy. Crazy the way they behave on such different roads
i had one of the first original ones loved it & again in 2016 for a sports bike i thought they are comfy, its a sham there going to be discontinued. if i was looking for a new bike, one of these or bmw came across my path i would have to have both. your laugh all the way though thumbs up. in years to come ..
Hey Dan, 1st time l rode a R1, l think l had a similar giggle.... I rode one on suburban roads only with a 50mph/80kph speed limit, and nowhere near redline, so no real need to change gear, but l did, just to feel what the change was like.
Im new to motorbikes (passed my tests for full licence back end of March). Currently have a BMW 850GS, which is 94 BHP...cant imagine the power of something that is 200 BHP...hope I get to experience one day, although it would feel intimidating
I got a brand new anniversary R1 in 2016 for my 50th birthday and I still laugh like that every time I go out especially after it was mapped 5 years back ! It wakes you up for sure as it’s making 189bhp at the wheel. I love it and it’s here to stay ! Do love my MT10 sp though as it’s much more comfortable on the arse cheeks and the wrists 🤪😜🤣🤣🤣🏍️🏍️
Bought a MT-07 as first bike after getting my license a few years back. Then a couple of months after that my buddy went to Japan and was selling his R1M so i bought it for a resonable price. That thing scared the sh!t out of me to the point where i sold it off after just 2 months. Made a £2k profit and went back to MT-07. Now have an MT-09 and an Aprilia RS 660. But yeah, 1000cc were too much too soon and i will probably not get one ever again. Bloody hell, i would have died on that thing.
I didnt change a lot of bikes. Back in the day i went from owning thedual purpose Yamaha DT175 2 stroke to 7mths later , having had a chance to experience one ride on the Rd350lc on ride on the honda 750 Interceptor and before those Suzuki 550 and a handful of rides on the 69hp Suzuki gs750es....i graduated to the original 102hp Yamaha FJ 1100! Bike of the Year. My goal was actually a brand new Yamaha FZ750 but i decided the cost was a burden to my finances. Years later the 86Suzuki GSX1000R was my final blaze of techovelocity. Bike of the Year. Dunno if im ever getting back to those pinicales

I rode my mates Kwak H2 Supercharged with the limiter off with a Akrapovic Exhaust ,it's completely insane ,I got to 170 mph and my arse went he's had it to 205 mph on a runway of course ,tbh the throttle is in my opinion dangerous zero to full throttle is under 2 inch wind on if you slip just slightly its gone ,you need tons of practice and miles on the clock to even try to get used to it and to feel confident, looks fabulous but not for me ,in the wrong hands all these super sport bikes are lethal and for me not enjoyable, I will stick to my 1973 Z1B 900 wich i have owned since 1978 for me the most beautiful sport tourer ever made and still flies no technology only a steering damper and she draws a crowd everywhere i go but i do like the new retro version of it
Never forget first ride on the FJ1200 1986 red and white model , my previous bike was an IT200L , nothing compares to a missile disguised as a motorcycle .
I had the pleasure of riding one of these. The main thing is you need to go to the gym to train your left foot to be fast enough to change up the gears. RIPPER
The trouble is and as wonderfully engineered the R1 is,you know you can kiss goodbye to your license or worse on our British rods! And where is the fun in that?
I owned a 2008 model R1. The same model Nick Sanders toured the world on and I was inspired by him so decided to tour the UK on mine. 2 weeks and nearly 4000 miles later turns out I'm not Nick Sanders and an R1 is not a good bike to tour on. 😢
Former motorcycle salesman here, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that I’ve ridden almost everything. And I’m going to tell you a secret: If you’re riding on the street, the 600’s are the most fun.
I’ve only ever had 600s since passing obtaining my full license, and I can safely say my 07 ZX6R is certainly fast enough! God knows how 200bhp feels like
I’ve owned and driven some incredible cars, but nothing compares to a 1000cc superbike, I had big ZZRs and BMW 1000cc they fry and scramble your brain. The mid range is just bewildering.
It seems the entire issue of "feel" with Yamaha sportsbike brakes relates to the extra plumbing used for ABS. Then except for the "feel" part it seems like they do actually work acceptably well....but I have never heard it explained how other brands/models manage to have both ABS and reportedly stellar brake feel and performance? WHAT is Yamaha missing in the equation?
For only being 5 foot 8 n u r on tip toes that is not bad really u will never have chance for even tip toes on most trail bikes nice reviews if u r not used to going on sports bikes then the riding position is not going to b comfortable especially for longer rides harder for wrist n forearms n neck ive always riding super sports bikes n know I'm thinking of going for sports tourer like the Kawasaki sx. ✌
if can find 1 try rideing a 2000 r1 or a 2008 version ,the 1998 version will try and kill you lol ,and the 2000 sits giggleing waiting if you think you can ride better than you think, the 2015 version has lots of helping bits on it
Not a bike for me, but I would - almost happily - soil myself on a test ride on one of those.... It looks mean, it sounds mean, and it knows how to react when you twist the throttle. I envy your test ride on it. 👍⭐👍
Looks great and no doubt its an awesome ride, but the sound is severely lacking compared to the older inline 4's from 20 years ago with that beautiful smooth and powerful sound they had, that will always be what a sport or superbike should sound like to me. This sounds more like a twin that just revs higher
It sounds like a beast dan yes it is not made for comfort but it is made to shit and get stay safe around that beastly machine and thanks for the video bro
I still miss me old gixer k3 had it for 13 years even in 2003 very fast I had old zx10 1988 streetfightered no fairing that still did 160 mph with me head on the tank was a bit scary 😁👍🤔🤣
More on the brakes I am fascinated to learn that the much cheaper R9 is getting Brembo stylema with steel lines! and full on 31mm rotors rather than the MT09s little 29s. Not only that but apparently R9 gets an updated version of the R1/R6 43 mil KYB forks!... which at first glance look rather identical until you realize the right cap has only "tension" damping adjuster so apparently KYB is copying the other high end forks that have rebound on one side and compression on the other....except I think I recall seeing TWO damping screws on the R9's left leg's cap? Does that make sense to have both rebound and compression on left side but only rebound aka "tension" on the right? Makes me wonder will the 2025 UK track only R1 get these same upgrades? More importantly to me Will tus Yanks get it for 2025 street R1? I love the CP3 motor but it is so weak compared to the mighty YZFR1 CP4 engine! Now I am debating put a deposit down for an R9? or wait for a hopefully upgraded (to Brembos and new forks) R1? And no I am not paying for the M....Honestly I KNOW an R9 would be ample power I know but I so love this CP4! even in my lowly MT-10 with "only" 165 horses! That btw makes my CP3 powered Tracer 9 gt feel rather anemic.....and then if I buy either the R1 or the new R9 one of my current bikes (23 MT-10 or "22 T9gt) will have to go if I want to stay married....which hmmmm? ya know?
Everything is slow compared to the CP4! What an engine. I think the CP3 is a really good real world amont of power though. And it only feels slow after riding the R1 or MT10. The trick is to not ride those bikes first haha!
UK and Europe… Mate. Even though the UK left the EU you are still a part of Europe. It’s in the continents name… Europe. Thanks for the up. It certainly is a cool bike
Thanks for the up Dan. I’ll have to eat my own words about not buying another Yamaha. That bike is Very very tempting! And it might just make this fifty three year old feel a bit younger ☺️
I am on my second purchase of a 2019 R1m because the previous owner had upgraded to brembo gp4-rx and a corsa corta master with abs delete as well as a whole host of upgrades like ohlins steering damper, gilles rear sets, ima clip ons, carbon air intake , ima air filter and so on etc. The reason why i went back to the R1m is because it is reliable and an awesome and exciting superbike if ridden hard. I had the 2020 bmw s1000rr-m which was bland and boring and i found it hard work to get the most out of it at the higher speed (180+) because it would make me tired of trying to ring the neck out of it. The 2022 rsv4 factory was a step above the R1m and R1 in terms of power and torque and i could feel it in the way the bike would wheelie on slight lumps in the road surface when i wound the throttle back 90 ish % but my 2022 rsv4 factory had a coolant leak (at 1000 miles give or take a few) which was fixed after about 6 weeks and eventually led to a complete engine failure about 1000 miles after- which was replaced under warranty, after i got the bike back after a complete engine change, it then had an oil leak after less than 50 miles after i picked the bike up so i handed it back to the dealership. The yamaha R1 and R1m is the bike to have if your looking to have the kind of fun without a pilots licence and access to a jet plane but want the reliability of 100,000 miles of reliability with the regular service intervals and minor part replacements. It is insane how this bike performs if you can ride it to its full potential and the little bit of power that i wish it had at the top end is something that i will live with compared to its euro rivals lack of reliability.
Incredible bikes but bye bye licence, unfortunately if you have the power you cant help but twist the throttle!! . Up North you may be ok but you will get nicked in many parts down south. Stick to track days if you feel the need for speed.
Back in the day I had the opportunity to ride a 1980 Suzuki GS1000, and I absolutely loved everything about it. The problem was that open throttle would launch me immediately into super-legal speed, and with the number of points I had my license, one more ticket and I was going to be walking. Many years later I had the opportunity to ride a mid '90's Suzuki RF900R, and it was dramatically faster. I can't imagine what a current liter class superbike would feel like.
The reason why superbikes r disappearing is because people arnt buying them , if u don't want em ta disappear, whip ur wallet out , and why do people worry that their feet arnt flat on the ground, u don't have ur feet on the ground when u ride , u shouldn't ride a bike if u can't at standstill tippy-toe with 1 foot an the deck
First 30 seconds of the ride shifting from 1st to 2nd with the slightest blip of the throttle and you start giggling and becoming completely lost for words. Yep, you're on an R1.
@@Englishbikerdan I've owned a number of these type of bikes long before the phrase "litre bike" had even been coined. My first was when I traded in my 1974 CB450 for a 1984 FJ1100. The power & torque were just something you couldn't explain. I let a bunch of people ride that bike just to see the expression on their faces. When I had a chance to ride my brother in law's RSV4 recently, the giggle factor went up an order of magnitude.
Its a motorcycle why would emissions even mater? I'm in CA and they don't smog bikes. I'm just saying its got to be way less then a car so why is the government being dumb.
I've been using a 23 R1 since Feb 24, just touched 6000 miles , put heli bar riser on, ride all day no worries, its just Fun, I know it makes no sense on the road, but whi cares, it's hilarious.
I'd love to try one with risers!
I just bought a 2024 R1(Black-Raven), it makes absolutely no sense on normal roads, stupid fast and looks like a stealth fighter, I love it.
Imagine riding an R1 in southeast Asia like the Philippines where the average speed on the highway is 50mph on a good day. I know guys with an R1 (XSR 900 myself) and it just feels wild blowing by thousands of people on scooters.

I guess people voted with their wallets and didn't buy. We can't really complain if people didn't want them. But, I will miss their lunacy.
Ummm, liter bikes in general aren’t going anywhere…. The doom-and-gloom is a bit oversold.
What ? Are you talking in Europe ? Here in the USA nothing has changed with regards to liter bikes. All that changes is them getting further and further north of 200 hp

Sadly I've never managed to ride a two-stroke!
What a noise that CP4 makes. Probably one of the only bikes (R1, MT-10) I’d buy just for the engine.
Hurry up Tracer 10!

Good video. Sounds odd but if your body needs a rest on a sports bike you need to open the throttle.
Have you tried bobicar with 980cc cupholder yet?
US has a 2025 model R1 and R1M. Really feel like I should get it before it's gone
Could be worthwhile!
Beast
Mode.
More "ooos, ahhhs and ughs" than the average pr0n movie (or so a friend tells me). Smooth engine?
R1 brings the p0rn!
I love any bike that represents unnecessary lunacy. Bye bye R1
Damn straight!
sensiible, yes we believe you
Would I lie to you......? :D
Ahhh you should’ve ridden it in b mode and you would’ve enjoyed it even moreee
Tried all modes, A mode was my fave.
Ed sounds like a legend. I bet he is handsome and fast.
Hi Ed!
I’d love one but a little expensive at the moment for a 24 plate.
These sort of bikes are too fast for the roads here in the UK they are ridiculously fast
They are mad, but fun!
Unadulterated joy 🤩
R1👑👑👑
UK and Europe…
Mate. Even though the UK left the EU you are still a part of Europe. It’s in the continents name… Europe.
Thanks for the up. It certainly is a cool bike
You mean the UK didn't float off and create it's own continent? Damn.
@@Englishbikerdan 🤣
Absolutely, I failed it keeping it sensible!
9:18 I am just gonna open up a little bit. In R1 language it means WARP MODE :D
Haha, yep! Bike had other ideas! :D
try MT 10 flashed and exhaust on it
Ridden the SP, still fun but missing that top end.
Go to the Autoban in German not in the rubbish uk roads to test a beast like this
R1 enough said.
Say no more!
your laugh, make me laugh too, thank you because i will never drive one of those, one filing that i will never going to feel.
Still the best looking sportsbike imo
Agreed@
Best sounding too
First 30 seconds of the ride shifting from 1st to 2nd with the slightest blip of the throttle and you start giggling and becoming completely lost for words. Yep, you're on an R1.
There's just something about these bikes. They are animals that also tickle you!
A source of blaspheme! Man keep doing this, is a very enjoyable video, makes me want to sell my soul to buy one of these haha. Thanks!
I wish I could afford one, hell i wish I could afford any bike 😂😂😂
Get a used 250 and drive the nuts off it. You can do it!
Start small, even 125cc's are great fun!
Yamaha ORIGINAL ❤ yes ICON🎉😻
your own TT
I had no idea the R1 was an inline 4.
Yeah doesn't sound like one does it! Crazy good engine!
Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki run inline 4s, same as with their racing bikes …
What is your thing just out of interest?
Naked bikes for the most part. But I'm also getting into dirt and light adventure bikes too.
Its a motorcycle why would emissions even mater? I'm in CA and they don't smog bikes. I'm just saying its got to be way less then a car so why is the government being dumb.
@@epplerjm7847 The government in UK hate bikes and bikers. So anything they can do to make it worse for us.
