    Hi Hannah, I have 2ft around my raised beds & works great. All my areas are covered with weed suppressant & bark, love it. So easy to weed & keep under control. All your plants ate looking lovely. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

    Cardboard works really well under Woodchips to prevent "weeds from growing,and it will decompose over time.... quite eco friendly really😊🎉I use this technic on the floor of my potting mini greenhouse,and it's great!!

      We’ve tried cardboard quite a lot, the weeds always seem to come back as we have a big buttercup problem so decided to try membrane this time. We have cardboard and woodchip in other areas 😊

    Thanks for the tip about wood chip, I didn’t know this was something some councils have. I’ll check with mine and see if they do it. Just got my first allotment in the north east, about 50 miles south from you, glad for the videos as we are in the same climate zone thingie 😊x

    I have grown cucamelons before and been surprised by the quantities they produce too. They make great plot snacks but freezing them for gin and tonics sounds like a great idea!

    Looking fab you can't beat a load of woodchip. Where did you get your polytunnel from ?

    I’ve never put wood chips in my garden before but my garden used to be in sandy soil where weeds were not much of a concern. This year I’m in a new space that was neglected for many years and has clay soil. I’m now seriously thinking about throwing down some wood chips in part to try and keep the crazy weeds down and also to improve the soil over the years. Your cucamelons are so cute! Can you let us know what you ended up doing with them and what the results were?

      Woodchips are really good for suppressing the weeds if you get a thick enough amount down 😊 I froze the cucamelons

    Rather than use the wheelbarrow I use 5 gallon buckets to move the wood chips. Makes it very manageable to get in tight spaces

      I did use a bucket to top places up at the end.

    I’m planning on redoing my plot over the winter with raised beds and wood chip paths as I can’t win against the weeds 😢 I’m hoping that will give me more time for the fun jobs 🎉 what membrane do you use, I heard stories of the thick stuff fraying and putting plastic all in the soil but the thin membrane I’m worried won’t last so any advice would be appreciated 😊

    • @Gingergrows1
      @Gingergrows1  Рік тому +1

      We have tried lots of cardboard before and the weeds always come back eventually. Membrane isn’t always ideal as like you say the plastic can break down into the soil but hopefully it’ll keep the weeds at bay better and we can just keep topping up the woodchips. This was quite a thick membrane.

      @@Gingergrows1 I’m doing a trail in my fruit cage first before I dig up the whole plot thanks for the advise 👍

    Dont Worry about to much foiliage on your cosmos, When they do that they just flower later in the year with 10 times as many flowers. They just have a mind of their own in richer soil. In poorer sandy soils we have found the actual blooms are bigger but not so many. The tiger tomatoes and the dark purple ones are pretty cool.

    Hello Hannah you are totally natural at allotment reporting I really like the colour of your nail polish and your cute smile and Newcastle accent. Any word of Tony c smith having an other potty mouth club show yet. Could you also please tell where. Could be best to get a polytunnell or a small greenhouse please. I hope you have a nice weekend when your away from the garden and allotment thanks you
    😊

      @@Gingergrows1 I love the one I have. It's bursting at the seams but I just don't have room for a bigger one in the garden unfortunately and I have zero chance of an allotment. One the size you have would be amazing, but not an option ☹️
