great tip, I'm glad I've gone for a twin calliper setup

Oooh which set up have you got, is it the destroy or die knuckles? I didnt watch all your videos so will have to take a look. I'm hoping to make a bespoke twin caliper set up for the mx5 later in the year, few people say the stock one isn't bad when adjusted up, think also some people don't realise the alan key adjuster is behind the bolts and thats why they struggle to get it good maybe. Have you done much drifting with the stock handbrake in your mx5 before?

Ive done dual calipers in my gs since it can't be road legal with inline hydro, anyways I couldve done the handbrake conversion but I think this is better.

You've done the right thing, dual caliper is definitely the best option 👍

Just trying to understand the point here about not being able to use the foot brake "at the same time as" an inline handbrake. Does the foot brake not apply pressure to all four wheels, including additional pressure to the rear through the inline handbrake? So, for some combination of caliper piston size, handbrake piston size, etc. there exists an inline setup with the same handling characteristics as a dual caliper setup. And I strongly suspect (neglecting elasticity in the brake lines and the master cylinders) that setup is one where the dual caliper has the same total piston area ratio (master cylinder to secondary caliper ratio) equal to the ratio of the comparable inline master cylinder to caliper piston area ratio. Assuming the same brake pads and same length handbrake lever are used.
Now, heat soak is a different question - strong advantage to the dual caliper in terms of extra mass of metal and fluid to heat. Except that if you are heat soaking the system with the foot brake, you aren't drifting. You might be racing, but in that case you don't want the extra weight of the secondary caliper, do you? There might be an exception to this in rally racing where drifting could be used to corner and they may heat soak their brakes, but they also use different driving techniques (e.g. a cutting brake).

      Hi Dave,
Have you drifted or watched drifting before? Essentially what I am saying is: A lot of people new to drifting immediately fit an inline 'hydro' before they even have much experience drifting, if you press the foot brake with the handbrake T'd into the system like this when you press the foot brake it also pulls the lever and doesn't allow you to modulate the rear if you stab the foot brake hard, for instance on a transition, I guess you could in theory if you fitted a line lock/bias valve before the hydro but that's not really the done thing as you would then only be braking on the front brakes with the foot brake which again isn't the idea.
The best of both worlds in terms of locking the rear wheels, in any situation regardless of foot brake pressure is a separate calliper, if you watched the video all the way, I do mention the only con is the extra weight but its negligible in drifting.
Heat soak isn't a problem in drifting, it's not like racing in that way, the brakes get light use overall but do need to lock at any given moment.
So to summarise in my own opinion I prefer to drive a car with an 'as good as can be adjusted' stock handbrake that then still allows use of the footbrake and handbrake at the same time over and inline 'hydro' but the best set up is a twin calliper hands down, allows as much foot brake modulation and rear wheel locking as the driver wants in any situation. I will soon be fitting/fabricating a twin calliper set up to my latest mx5 project drift car.
      Hope that helps. Cheers

I’ve never not been able to foot brake and ebrake at the same time with an inline
