How To PROPERLY Adjust Your Mx5 Handbrake - Quick and Easy!
How to correctly adjust your Mazda mk1 or mk2/2.5 handbrake. A lot of people don't realise there is an adjuster at the caliper end and incorrectly adjust their handbrake with just the cable inside, which then doesn't hold or lock properly. Let me know if this helped you in the comments :)

      @alexgroezinger762 Thanks for the comment, it's hard to say as I also de-catted the bike and added the arrow tune at the same time, the bike definitely went better after I did those bits. I don't think you would feel any difference with just the plugs and air filter unless they hadn't been changed for a long time in which case you would be back up to full standard power again. Hope that helps.

      @sebascardonac Hi, it was fine for about a year and a half then the bolt snapped again, I now remove the bolt and check the insert is tight before every track day. In an ideal world you would loosesn and adjust all the engine mount bolt/adjusters every time but that's not always viable.

    Wish you'd explained how you improved more. From what I saw it looked like you were just more aggressive in keeping the revs up and staying low on the bike (aided by clipons). I recently got a 765 RS and converted to clip ons but will keep it naked for now as my local tracks aren't that fast. Hope you've healed up and nice riding!

    • @dan_the_drifter321

      Thank you for your comment, I am 95% healed up with only the odd pain from my foot now. Apologies for the video not being what you expected, it was more to give people some motivation and not be put off for their first few track days if they felt slow, you can see large improvements over a fairly short period concentrating on a few key aspects, 4 track days being the difference in my case, in this video. If it helps I could make a detailed video showing how I improved, I did consider this before as I managed to continue to get better times throughout this year, I still don't feel I'm fast enough to be teaching other people though. Happy to talk about my own experiences if that might help others. A 765 RS is a lovely bike, basically same as my bike but with even better suspension, you can take that right up to fast group pace no problem at all. Respect the bike and it will treat you well I'm sure 👍

    I’ve got a 2007 Berlingo. Having the same problem, very sloppy pedal. Bought the aftermarket bushes and tried to remove the pivot pin. 13mm nut and Allen key required at the other end. Not having it, as the brake pedal actuator rod stops the pin removal no matter how you twist the clutch pedal. So with new bushes it would be even worse trying to refit from the right. Just Bad design. Will also work in how to do this without stripping too much of the adjacent components, or cut the pin and then refit from the left side…if I can get a new bolt. Access isn’t that good either. Good luck.

  • @ItsThe675
    @ItsThe675 2 місяці тому

    I tried doing this without bleeding the brake and it worked horribly. I thought I could just use a screwdriver to push the Piston out of the way. But for those reading my comment just crack open the bleeder valve. It will save you so much time

    • @dan_the_drifter321
      @dan_the_drifter321 2 місяці тому

      @ItsThe675 sometimes if you have a tight piston or the brake line is a little blocked/squashed it can be a little stiff to move, if cracking the nipple off relieves pressure then there usually is something else thats sticky, as you see in the video, a nice free piston will go back fairly easy. Hope you sorted it in the end. Cheers

    Will the coolant temp not be reading closer to the turbo temp than engine temp? I don't have any experience to know if this would cause issues but it does come to mind for daily driving & the thermostat possibly opening prematurely.

    • @dan_the_drifter321
      @dan_the_drifter321 2 місяці тому

      Thanks for the comment, I see what your saying but realistically the size/flow of the turbo feed and return pipe is so much smaller than the flow from the main engine and water pump hoses the small amount of extra heat should be dissipated in the system, the stat itself will still only open once the engine hits the overall temperature required, turbocharger may well bring it up to operating temp faster, but still operate the stat correctly if in good condition. The biggest difference to keeping temps down is fitting a coolant re-route, in the past on another mx5 found it made a noticeable difference to overall temps, that was however built as a drift car. Hope that has answered your questions :)

    Good vid Dan. I assume it’s a different process for ABS systems would I be correct?

    • @dan_the_drifter321
      @dan_the_drifter321 3 місяці тому

      Thanks Rob, generally still the same unless actually replacing or removing/blocking off the ABS. As long as there is always fluid in the system so the pump doesn't suck in any air you should be able to keep pumping it through, they do often advise connecting up a scan tool to bleed/activate the pump if it does end up sucking some air in, or if you want to replace every last drop of fluid that could be in the valves of the ABS unit. This isn't the same for all bikes though, I would research before hand if worried. I was very jealous of your Portimao trip, looking forward to the vids.

    Enjoyed your video. Im thinking of booking JW days at Knockhill in June. Did you feel it was worth the extra cash to do both days? I would put myself in the back half of intermediate group.

    • @dan_the_drifter321
      @dan_the_drifter321 8 місяців тому

      I would say yes and no, the smaller group sizes are well worth it compared to say a No limits day, however, I would say from an actual tuition point of view a lot of the things we were told as a group were similar by the end of day 1 as they were on day 2, mainly line choice and body position. So value for money 1 day at each circuit is probably all you need. It would have been nice if each session they concentrated on a couple individuals to give more direct feedback after the overall session de-brief. Saying that I'm sure you will enjoy it either way and I will likely book in another JW day this year somewhere if I get chance. Good luck, let me know how you get on if you do 👍

      Hi, fairly sure I extended the arms 40mm per side and chopped the hubs down 25mm each side, it had some pretty severe camber but drifted great! I would say about 7 or 8 degrees camber and then with longer tie rods and brake lines easy another 15 degrees or so over stock. More than ample for anyone other than pro drivers tbh. Found it went lock to lock just as quick as my old s14 which also had extended arms and chopped knuckles. Good luck.

    What do you guys ride on the green lanes?

      I have fun on my 1955 Ariel 500. I live in Kent now, and have an mazing network of byways, but I lived on Dartmoor for a few years and rode all the lanes between Dunsford and Manaton, and places I've forgotten about.

      @thra5herxb12s crikey that Arial 500 is a bit before my time, rode a friends old Enfield recently though, definitely had character even if not my usual choice 🤣 Ah nice one, ye lots around that area. Glad you still have some lanes up there in Kent. All the best.

    Nice vid Dan, a great battle with Paul in that one. He seemed to do you on the straights and then you had some great late brakes and higher corner entry speeds. Glad your feeling better after the off’s that ankle was not look good 😮

      Thanks Rob, shame me and you didn't get more time on track together, next year eh! Ye that S1000rr is quick! Corner speed and entry definitely improving on my side which I'm happy about 👍 ye let's hope my ankle is back to 100% soon 🤞

    Beefy-ish anchor but woefully thin chain. Pewag 12mm as a minimum.

    • @dan_the_drifter321
      @dan_the_drifter321 Рік тому

      Ye definitely, if you were only chaining up 1 bike a thicker chain would be great. I chain up 2 so that's about as big a chain as I could get to fit through the anchor twice, thanks for watching 👍

    I don't see how yours is so tight . I wish I had that problem ! I've had 3 of mine fall off torqued properly and with loctite just to be safe but still Came a loose after a few weeks! And my buddy has the same problem on his Daytona!! !!

    • @dan_the_drifter321
      @dan_the_drifter321 Рік тому

      Ah really, thats strange, even with the locking tab knocked over the nut? I've been to about 7 track days since I swapped that front sprocket out and it's been fine. Maybe double check you have the correct torque setting, could always give it a little more with bar just to be sure. Maybe the thread is worn on yours. Hope you find the answer 😊
