During the cold war, the Air Force had "high-speed" snow plows for runways. Capable of plowing at 50 plus MPH. The plows were able to "reverse " the blade at the end of the runway for the return trip. The whole plow would lift hydraulically and turn to change the direction of the windrow. I believe they were FWD special builds.
We had plows like this in the Michigan UP Copper Country. With over 300 inches a year of snow to deal with, the county had so many they didn't even put boxes on them, just huge concrete slugs.
YES!! I literally just posted a similar comment, about same type plows in Big Snow Country In Michigan's U.P . ....and Northern Wisconsin... great skiing up that way...I remember seeing snow up to the power lines....
@@Dailydieseldose315 you are correct on that! We just bought a tandem plow truck, I plowed with it once and also got stuck. Definitely no Oshkosh, someone that has never plowed with a Oshkosh it’s hard to explain…….

Stop by Town of Washington, NY and ask about their Paystar sander. Straight plow, not a V-plow; they run a lot of dirt roads, and they're not wide enough for a V-plow. But it's a hell of a truck. Watched the driver tow a loaded tractor-trailer out of a snow bank one night. It was quite a sight. 😁
Great. Walter trucks are my favorite as I spent 15 years working for Walter. It was a good company to work for, and they built a good truck. If you like trucks, it wasn't work.
Unless you have experienced it most people have no idea what it takes to clear the roads in the winter . It takes a lot of big equipment . You need to do your next video on the snow blowers that are used . DOT in Lockport has one that uses a 400 Cummings just to run the blower , man can it throw some snow !!!!
I've seen a lot of those size plows in Northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, at least back in the 70s and 80s... ironically usually on my way to a ski hill....
Don't know how it is there with the run times of plow trucks but where I live 20 years ago they would make a run sometime between 3 or 4 in the morning to make sure the roads where ready for morning commute. Now they run at 6 or 8 during morning rush hour. I've noticed a few places now has not so good staffing due to that dei hire crap, pay some inexperienced cell phone surfer more that a find something to do person.
Awesome vid, its the first I have watched from the channel & I had to sub after seeing. When you film each vehicle, maybe you can film inside the cab of each truck, I love the interior & exterior.....its cool to see these vehicles, Thx.
Oshkosh, Western Star and Walter built some of the best trucks ever known there are tons of these still in service to this day
FWD too.
@@lowercherty Yes, we had FWD's in Montreal, Canada that even served in WW2!
The background commentary is a true slice of Upstate New York ballbusting and wild accents. Great video, brings me back.

Town of North Elba (lake placid ny) used a FWD when it was too much for the regular plow trucks.

This is from medium snow country in NY.. NY has areas with over 300 inches annually too... and 77" in 24 hrs up in real snow country on Tug Hill..

Cool trucks!!! we owned 4 OSHKOSH plow trucks at one time a few years ago.
They don't seem to be as popular as they once were. Most towns just spec out a tandem truck nowadays and hope it doesn't get stuck.

Graders and front end loaders are so much more powerful now than they were decades ago, taken over much of the deep snow work.

I remember seeing a Lynn Half Track with a V plow with wing plows at the Delaware County Fair
Great Video ,big trucks for a big job ! Thanxxxxx

It will be on the list for next time!
Town of Wayland has a '99 6x6 Paystar. The tail end of when trucks were trucks
Nothing like a Paystar. One tough truck.
Ted Bownas
Pink snowblades! It is a truck "with a difference" as we used to describe things in the old days.
Pink snowblades are not as visible as the orange ones.Just saying.

That dump bed is so small, it looks like a pickup bed.
If you don't mind me asking where were they built?

Excellent video! Glad you could get them to pull them out for you.
Be nice if there was, I dunno, some SNOW. For your, for your, snowplows here.
I just stumbled upon this video. Those trucks make the Thuraya Authorities plow trucks look like toy's.
Oshkosh trucks rule the winter roads here in Wisconsin !!!!!!!
And FWD in my youth. Wausau Iron Works made the plows and wings
What kind of diesel motors do they use?Cummins, Mack's, Detroit?
Where men are men, and trucks, are trucks! Thanks for the video!
Better not let President Hillary hear you say such a blasphemy.
N.Y. probably charges tolls to it's own snow plows.
Ny sucks. And that's an understatement
@@angelozararis7404 your opinion.
Especially when we get those late winter storms. 4 feet in 24 hours
Nothing quite like lake effect!
What fantastic plow trucks.
They must be very effective.
They must have plowed away all the snow.
I have 6x6 oshkosh logger in mi up un stoppable she rocks!!!
Looks like it needs dual tires on front axle.
I wish i could drive one!
Must be nice to be able to use such a small plow. Almost like living in Hawaii.
Yup, just a lot less bikini babes around.
Where are you? Sierras?
Wow the snow looks really deep.
Hope they chain up!

Seriously, good looking equipment and thanks for the video....
Man, would I like to do some pushing with some of that iron.
Gotta be scary, can't see much beyond that blade!

LOVE THE 1994 OSHKOSH - Town of Fenner
They still need real trucks for the hill country of CNY!
Awesome trucks and very nice video!
The back wheels looked like they were barely on the ground. I guess it needs some sand to really be worth a damn.
They only add the extra weight when the time to plow snow arrives, otherwise it just wears out the truck and the tires for no reason.
@@NaYawkr these people don't know what these trucks can do.
Is that enough of weight in the back of that truck to push all that snow
Think those wheels and tires are up to the job?

Thank you for the sub!
Is that an Austin Western grader in the Paris barn ??
I'd love to drive a plow truck
02:00 Just a single rear axle with only 2 wheels to push 3 plow blades?
Yes, lots of weight over those rear wheels.
I honestly will be afraid to plow with that truck. I hope they pay well bc it looks like alot of responsibility to me.
Now that'll clear protesters
Dude 92 degrees with 94% humidity in central Mass and you show snow plows ? Where are the water trucks ! And not one IH , not one.
I did see a few. Big beefy Paystar 5000's. Sadly Internationals are fading away in favor of Western Stars. :(
@@Dailydieseldose315 and so is Mack.
For sheer power, youjust cannot beat an Oshkosh.
@@raymondswarmer1433 exactly.
small tires try it when it snows!!
These trucks are beast's in the snow. Four wheel drive there's nothing built better for pushing deep snow!
Put them back in the shed! Too soon to get those things out!
Winter will be here before you know it.
not enough tires ?? axle needs duels ??
Ground Pressure = pounds per inch
Super single grippers plow better than duals anyday
walters are the best
That’s not enough truck for the blade it would not get far in Michigan
You obviously don't know much about these trucks. Before you make a stupid comment I would check out some videos of these trucks plowing deep snow!!
