cant believe only herbie and ron are still with us. as in all great art and artists they live on for eternity. beautiful, wonderful music for the heart and soul!!
This is so great! Everyone is a master on their instrument. Herbie's voicings and the playing with the time the rhythm section does is amazing. Thanks for posting.
The performance, stellar, and legendary. The audio, and video production majestic, and extraordinary. The experience top notch, and first rate. To have been there would have been the most.
Loved Freddie's solo on flugelhorn. The larger, warmer, softer instrument complements his fiery style and technique a bit. On my 2nd listen/watch a few days later I realize that he switches back to trumpet at the end of his solo. Herbie's solo was even better on the 2nd listen - he's so inventive. I recommend a 2nd listen. You hear and see a lot more. Wish Ron Carter also did a solo.
Anyone involved in the creative process, understanding the nature of live performance and improvisation, would be better silent than critical of these musical masters. And to boot, a high energy and exciting performance - can only imagine the peak experience of being there.
Masters all! What a line-up! A word about Tony Williams: he seemed to come out of nowhere with a brilliantly original style of his own. Heck, that goes for all the players here!
Freddie Hubbard, and Bobby Hutcherson were on 10! Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carrer, and the composer Joe Henderson were splendid as always. Those people who voted thumbs down are deaf and or incompetent haters. Clean the wax out of your ears please. A 5*****star live rendition.
A real good burger, with real meat, real cheese and real fresh onions is fine! I like them so much ... But never from McDonalds !! ... That's the antithesis of real hamburger, it's fake food. There are many types of good burgers on the streets, there are also fine dining restaurants, there are even gourmet burgers... but someone who knows the real value of a good and nutritious meal, will never choose one from McDonalds! ... That, I think, (more or less), is what soulgriot means
Pretty close. I wasn't comparing the relative merit of one burger over another, though, and I wasn't suggesting that eating what's available after a gig was a bad thing. There's as much difference between an outstanding jazz performance and a mediocre pop music performance as there is between McDonalds' food (burger or otherwise) and a well prepared gourmet meal. That's all I was suggesting . . . .
In other words, some people prefer crap over something decent. In fact, many people do, and that's their choice. Perhaps they are unable to discern a difference, which is a shame . . . .
@@glennwisniewski9536 I won't ridicule you for that. To each his own. Wanna know a secret? I'm not really a Tony Williams fan...nor Buddy Rich. There's a similarity in their playing that irks me every time. I knew you'd understand, or at least not denigrate me, because you seem like the kind of guy that is so firm in his convictions and preferences that he necessarily understands that others have different preferences. In other words, I think we'd get along well. Take care friend!
Truly a testament to the superiority of rhythmic precision, in my mind. Hal Galper's Forward Motion concept was my entry point into freeing the 'notes' from the rhythm -- literally a life-changing book: if you're not familiar, it's a must read!
harvey Pipher so true. a one and only. from my hometown of pasadena california in the sixties and john muir high school. bobby was two years ahead of me. r.i.p. bobby.
Herbie is THE best accompanist EVER! (1st bars of Bobby's solo.. Not really difficult, just the idea of putting it there..) I wish I could hear blocks of harmony like he does.
For this drummer it''s Tony Williams!! Second is Elvin Jones...who's hug and fulfillment conversation I'll never forget. It was 2003 at New York's Blue Note
I was there. Town Hall NYC 1985.
I'm so glad you were fortunate enough to witness that performance Walter. This is amazing stuff.
Walter Goldstein what a night of majesty, where did the times and the music go?
how's your experience?
Walter Goldstein This is the shit! Everybody is playing their asses off.
Lucky you!!!!!
There are no suckers on that stage. Wow. Bobby Hutcherson's solo blew me away. Thanks so much for posting this historic performance.
You are right man. Giants on stage. Amazing performance.
cant believe only herbie and ron are still with us. as in all great art and artists they live on for eternity. beautiful, wonderful music for the heart and soul!!
Woof! That's a goddamn lineup right there.
How fortunate we are that this has been captured so well. Brilliant...
This is jazz...Henderson , great!
Henderson was a genius along with the rest of group, what a fortuitous meeting of genii.
Superstars, every single one of them!
This is so great! Everyone is a master on their instrument. Herbie's voicings and the playing with the time the rhythm section does is amazing. Thanks for posting.
Herbie's smile says so much.
The monsters!Wow!! They absolutely great!👍👋👋👋👋 Bravo!

I am forever grateful for Herbie Hancock

The Giants of Jazz !! I love it... these cats are Heavy!!
Fabulous performance by fabulous musicians. Thank you.
It doesn't get much better than this.
That was an absolute blessing.
Richard Pryor killin it on vibraphone
Yeah and I 'spose that's Malcolm X on trumpet.
Good memories... Thanks for sharing :)
Masters all! What a line-up! A word about Tony Williams: he seemed to come out of nowhere with a brilliantly original style of his own. Heck, that goes for all the players here!
All my favourites! Thank you so much for this.

7:40 makes me lose it every time! The way Tony sets up a new groove and Herbie follows suit. Ahh!
So real jszz, so right, so lovely!
Fantastic classic song.
El quinteto! Inmenso Tony Williams!! Que músicos por Dios!!!
This is what happens when you have the fukking giants of jazz, playing a brilliant tune, on a night when all the stars were aligned.
Phenomenal. Can't believe the pace they played this at. Sad to think that Hancock, Newton and Carter are the only ones left of this stellar gathering.
Fantastici!!!!!!!!
Awesome players and recording. Thanks!
Total Enjoyment
If you don’t know where “one” is, you will be at least “one” off. Gee😎😎❤️❤️
Around the 8th minute it's where are 1, 2, 3, 4?...who cares? It's too much fun to listen to
The pleasure of life...
Unos monstruos que andaban por ahí y se pusieron a tocar. Más que geniales, únicos.
Herbie, Bobby and Tony just kill me.
EXCELLENT...
Freddie Hubbard turned the rhythm section out on that solo. He is a giant.
YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHH ... Play it Joe!
I like hearing Joe with A basic rhythm section, this is over kill to me.
In love here!
Freddie Hubbard sounds superb.
Formidável, minha referência de Saxofonista.
The same twelve people who gave this a thumbs down probably also prefer McDonalds over a gourmet meal . . . .

WhaO. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤
Genius musicians absolute!!! blessing .Great Performers.
Recorda-me? Well, somebody did... Amazing band.
Herbie is so free and rhythmically hip it hurts me.
Truly a testament to the superiority of rhythmic precision, in my mind. Hal Galper's Forward Motion concept was my entry point into freeing the 'notes' from the rhythm -- literally a life-changing book: if you're not familiar, it's a must read!
fabuleux
So nice
I seriously wonder about the twelve people who gave this thumbs down.
Rip Bobby Hutcherson
Kalim Manigault He was my favourite vibes player of all time.
harvey Pipher so true. a one and only. from my hometown of pasadena california in the sixties and john muir high school. bobby was two years ahead of me. r.i.p. bobby.
9:34 is where Herbie Tony and Ron do their 'thing.'
Ron Carter on Bass !!!
Oh Yeah !!!!
Bobby Hutcheson's solo kills me. It's almost too much.
Tony!!!!
Lucky man!
Here I was thinking that the original recording was the most mind-blowing
Yes
Ron!
Herbie is THE best accompanist EVER! (1st bars of Bobby's solo.. Not really difficult, just the idea of putting it there..) I wish I could hear blocks of harmony like he does.
Yeah, to point out that Verbuw is simply BRILyis, to say the least, a grossly misleading understatement. (JOE's bloody tasty as well!! 😎😉.)
Verbuw should have read HERBIE!!
Maravilha!!!
7:45 wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhh gonorrreeeaa

Can anyone tell me how to find this entire concert? At least 'canteloupe island' performed in this show. Thanks!
damn, Freddie Hubbard is angry about something... that look on Hancock's face after his solo says so much. wonder what was going on?
😀👍☝️💙
😀🍀💛🌸
Wow! too much brain in one stage....
fucking awesome
"Whoa!" Hello delicious.
Hmmm...when the gods met to play.
Bobby Hutcherson, the Great Bobby Hutcherson, no James Newton.
I always wondered, what's with Henderson and Hubbard always being in same groups?
Caleb Jackson Hmm...CAUSE THEY WERE GREAT!!!!!!!
Maybe they like to play together? I think on this one he sounds a bit like Trane actually
:)
2:37
The source
Does anybody know which year this was?
1985 if I'm not mistaken. Re-launch of Blue Note Records.
SWINGING CATS!!!!!!
25 pple don't have a taste for good music? SO WHAT?
Williams sounds like truck crash.
Great tune, great players playing their asses off, but the tempo is too fast for the beauty and lyricism of this song - at least IMO.
