    I saw this same version Portia, end of show with Darrell Jones on bass in Portland at Starry Night, small room really. Audience close like this - Just like this. Changed my life forever. No words. Been looking for this w Darrell long time.

      @@petebosheff8819 I don't think I walked out of a Miles concert the same. It was always an amazing experience. By the way I don't think Darryl played with Miles after 1987 besides the Paris 1991 reunion concert.

      @@ErikBruchez I will double check dates when I saw Miles in Portland OR - Daryl Jones was bass man for both concerts at the StarryNight club. it was mid-80s for sure. Cheers and best to you.

      Here's the double check from friends I was with for Miles shows - Both Starry Night - May 1st 1990 Bass: - Benny Rietveld & Lead Bass: Foley...Sept 6 1987 Bass: Daryl Jones & Lead Bass: Foley.
      Also Miles performed at the Schnitzer in 1985.

    • @ErikBruchez
      @ErikBruchez 3 роки тому

      @@petebosheff8819 Yes that's consistent with Miles's lineup those years. Darryl played with Miles in the summer tours of 1985 and 1987. Benny Rietveld in 1988 and 1989. I don't know if Benny played with Miles in early 1990, but latter in 1990 he was replaced by Richard Patterson.

    I remember being 17 years old, watching VH1 late, and hearing this for the first time via the 'Tutu - Medley' video where this was the last part of the medley. Completely enchanted and blown away as the chords and vibe were so otherworldly and ethereal. At 17 I felt beyond sophisticated listening to this, as it transported me to a lovely and sublime adult place that is too perfect for reality. That same feeling washes over me when I listen to this today at age 53. Magic.

    Que hermoso regalo le hizo Marcus Miller a Miles al componer el disco TUTU, con canciones como ésta donde se puede estar fácilmente 15 a 20 minutos improvisando sobre una base rítmica poderosa, donde se pueden hacer infinidad de arreglos en vivo.

    "Portia", in a beautiful & most glorious way !
    Fear is the chariot on which men ride to death
    At such time they find, their fear a myth
    And death a fancy child...
    Live life, bold, beautiful & wild
    As chains are but worthless cords
    That part at your knowing touch
    Ascend the ladder, made of all things pleasant & sure
    A true portal to endless possibility & Miles of inspiration...

The “official” end was with no more musician standing on stage with the keyboard loop running, leaving people with an empty stage, but filled with music still.
