So I watched both videos and you sold me. So I went to the website to order one, but they don't seem to have a page to order straight from the factory. do you have a link to access the discount and st. jude donation? I really didn't want to have spend $1K on a scanner, Danner, but it looks like if I'm going to fix my own stuff it's a must. Thanks Buddy, you're an excellent instructor by the way. Looks like I might need some training to update my knowledge bank.

@scannerdanner can you do a review of the topdon artidiag pro? It's a corded bidirectional full function under $500 I'll probably have bought it before you read this comment but it might be an even better budget minded diag tool. I'm hoping the live data delay/response and layout/function of the data sets is comparable...4hrs left till the current amazon sale ends so I'm just gonna go for it....
Im buying one. Im not a mechanic Im an IT network guy. If I were a mechanic id want to be like you. Your troubleshooting skills remind me of myself when working in my field. I haven’t been to a mechanic in over 5 years and ive done a lot of work on my 13’ Tacoma TRd sport. Youre honestly the most humble and passionate mechanic ive ever seen working and your teaching skills and methods are phenomenal. Keep up the good work my brother!
Thank you so much! The Phoenix Lite 2 is out and it's on sale right now too.
It's a bigger tablet. Not sure if it does the network topology or not. But it's just under $700 on Amazon right now.

I also want to mention that their customer service is PHENOMENAL. I was having an issue, so I called them and real humans picked up the phone after a couple rings. Then they just used remote access on the device to drive everything themselves. Very impressed with the customer service. Definitely worth some of the purchase cost to know that there’s a real company with real support.
Awesome! Great to hear and thank you for sharing!

Best automotive electrical channel on UA-cam period! And from what he does to help out so many trying to get into the automotive industry, he doesn't get enough recognition. This is what should really be on television channels like Motortrend

I'm looking for one for my husband. Will this program to delete the o2 sensors? He has a cat back system on his gto.
Launch seemed to be the first 'releaser' of this software, which is now used by Thinktool and TopDon. It's probably just one Chinese company that's leasing the software to whomever wants to use it. My Launch has the same wireless dongle and case (just in a different color). It works well but I discovered a fuel trim graphing refresh bug that's yet to be fixed with an update (it's just an annoyance, doesn't affect diagnosing.
The story I heard from 2 good sources is that the owners for the Launch brand are the same 2 brothers that own THINKTOOL and TOPDON (not sure if it's true).
@@Auto-Tech I wouldn't doubt it if it is true. I have the Launch X431 Pro Mini and it is identical to the Topdon Phoenix Lite, with the exception of color. They even both appear to come with all of the same adapters in the case.
I could also swear, the Zurich ZR Pro I got through Harbor Freight, I think uses a variant of the same dongle and software, just with a bit less refined interface (graphing could be better and no topology or network maps). But I paid $1100 dollars for mine at the time. But as far as the functionality goes, I would swear it is the same as the Launch and the Thinktool.
Looks very much like the Launch X431 Pro Mini and works identically. You dont need to graph data pre recording. You can graph any pid that was selcted that was recorded and look at the saved file as a graph or numerical.
I have the latest x431 pro but find myself using the mini when I have to rush out to do a quick check on a customers vehicle.
Its an awesome tool for this
I am a DIY guy and also have the X431 Pro Mini, mine is a few years old. It has a ton of features and seems to communicate with every module on every car I've tested it on, but one thing is bugging me. It has the option for deactivating and activating Mercedes SBC brakes, but I've never been able to successfully deactivate SBC on my 2005 E320CDI 4matic. And that is probably the function I need most often from a scan tool. I usually have to dig out the Xentry clone, which does the job but it's slow and clunky and I'd much prefer to use the X431 if it would succeed. Have you successfully deactivated SBC with X431 or Topdon?
What are the pids ?😮
Pine Hollow Diagnostics, Ivan, has been using the Think Tool ProS for quite a while now and seems to like it. It has the module topology when scanning. I would have to have that. 😂
yeah, I have been eyeing that one for the same reason
Love my Thinkcar Thinktool Pros. Been using it for almost 1 yr now and it hasn't let me down
Love your choice of charity!
Thank you
I've used the old model, ArtiMini as my main tool for a couple of years.
I got 3 years updates with mine so no subscriptions to pay out during that time.
System Scan and Health Report; just have one right?! Or am I missing a reason for them being separate? 😅 I get the same on my Launch based tools.
Hell yea Danner ive been waiting for you to narrow down the good scanners for us man been waiting to buy a good one ive asked you for help in the passed & you've give me advice thank you cant wait
This one is it. I'm a huge fan
Real mechanics NEVER read instrucción, just try and try and try and try and try and try and try and try uff, then read instruccuins
I have a Launch X431 Pro Mini and it looks identical in shape and characteristics to the Topdon Phoenix Lite you just showed, just different color. In fact, the exterior design and onscreen features are so close, it looks like one was copied from the other, all the way down to the handle, holder for the dongle, and start up button on the side looks exactly the same. They both appear to come with all the same adapters as well. The Home Screen was slightly different but the vehicle selection and Health Report are the same with the exception that the Topdon showed green text for pass and red text for fail, while the X431 Pro Mini shows black and red text. Other than that, I would have thought you were trying out the Launch X431 Pro Mini Bi-directional Scantool...they are that close and appear to have the same features based on just the little bit I saw in this video. If so, then the Topdon should also be able to program keys and transponders.
I've heard this from others too! Probably similar to how OTC will make a scan tool then license it to Matco and Mac and Cornwell with different names on it?
On the Launch X431 there is borescope software. I plugged in my cheap USB borescope and it works great with the included software.
@@bobdavidson6144 Nice! I hadn't realized that yet.
Hey Scanner Danner (Paul) did you ever do a tool review of the TopDon ArtiDiag900-BT
From what i heard on several automotive repair channels is that it's a great bidget Bidirectional, ECU Coding, topographical mapping and all systems scan with live data streams scan tool with a bunch more features all for under $580 (doesn't have a built in Oscilloscope obviously)
i remember you reviewed a expensive Autel that had DLC lab scope built in.
If you can get one thats near that price range that has bidirectional controls and possibly programming i bet many would want to see your review of it
Awesome to hear that it's going to Saint Jude Research
Paul, in the future after some real-time usage, can you make a video of what the tool will not do or does not seem to do very well please. Maybe also compare two tools, one other with this one, if the TOPDON does not do something then your other non-expensive tool did do the job, much appreciated. These 2 tools seem to do most everything. Please include older vehicles also as I see you saying that SO does old stuff better than others but its big money for that. Laters.
We have a video lined up for next week on a case study using the Phoenix. I don't really do tool reviews like others, you'll just see it in action as time goes on
This will not do ODD1 if that’s what you are asking, it’ll do non generic obd2 like the bmw pac man etc if that makes sense.
Link to part 2 (field testing follow up) ua-cam.com/video/MRE7jKXlwco/v-deo.html
Yes the extension cable is paramount for keeping your dongle
Xtool has some badass bi-directionals too and the price is beautiful.
In the second video Danner says there's no comparison between the topdon phoenix and the xtool d7 d8 etc between the loading speeds and live data layout and a few other notes Danner said he found the xtool unusable in comparison
Thank you scanner Danner for your videos I wish you and Eric, the car guy who is doing the scanner together video except for the one at nine years ago. Lol but I love your videos you’re the man.
Hey Paul, I’ve learned A lot watching your videos, I want a scanner that I can do compression test with turn injectors off and on Turn cylinders off and on mostly work on GM Five point threes and 6.0 with the advanced fuel management systems I need a scanner that troubleshoot those systems with the Phoenix light Work
Hey Paul geetings from PR. hope you're good ,the thinktool pro is tha same platform but have more features and is not expensive compared to known brands like snapon but i have being doing a lot of research and the only thing that stand snapon apart from all the others like autel topdon thinktool is the guided test info that it has built in and i check it out and that info is provided from Mitchell. Thaslts why some of the snapon scantoll have the shopkey software built in ,just sharing a bit of knowledge.Keep doing well God Bless you !!!

Never used a bi-directional scan tool before, always wondered about the updates. Like, does the tool become unusable once it needs an update or are the updates just for new cars coming out?
No, you can still use these scan tools if you don't update. My Autel subscription ended 4 years ago. It still works like it did when I kept updating it. The only issue I would run into is if I scanned a vehicle newer than my last update. I'm a diy'er, so this doesn't affect me at all on my personal vehicles. Updates will often come out for older vehicles as well as newer vehicles.
@@venomx4093 Thanks for that info! Do the scan tools come fully updated?
@@ourkid2000 No. You have to update them. Depending on the scan tool, you may get a 1 year of free updates to a couple of years worth of free updates. My Autel MS-906 came with a free 1 year of updates. After that, it costs like $500 a year. That's why I never bought any more updates lol. I updated every update possible within the 1 year.
What kind of hardware does it have ?
Ram ?
CPU ?
Android version ?
I have the Autek ifix969. You'd be amazed at the functionality of this unit for under $400. Updates are available often and are free for life. Bought mine 3+ years ago and have 2019 vehicle scanning available.
Do this tool have injector actuation for toyota corolla? I am using 2 types of Scanners one is launch X431 and 2nd is Rayan a iranian scanner for locally made cars. The iranian tool has actuation controll for fuel pump, injectors, coil spark so on. But the launch that iam usingg for japnese cars did not have these Actuation and i Really could not work on launch as i work with Rayan scanner. I wish i could have a Scanner like launch with all those controll.
Best unboxing ever, not worst! Shows some of the issues that don't seem to make it into other unboxing videos.
Looks promising. I went with an Autel MaxiDAS DS808 years ago for my DIY work. It's got bidirectional control for at least '05 and up(tested on an 05 Frontier and 06 350Z). I was also able to bump the idle of my 05 Frontier up to around 800 rpm when the cabin picked up a nasty harmonic vibration from an exhaust replacement. The magnaflow replacement exhaust didn't have the harmonic damper weight on it. For older cars, it can't do much. No bidirectional control on my '96 Z28. I use an old Tech 1A I got off Ebay with a mass data cartridge that goes to around 2002 if I recall right. I needed it to cycle the ABS modulator to get air out of it that would not move no matter what I tried.
Got the phoenix plus and its worth every penny.
Would love to see Paul playing with the Phoenix plus as that seems to be a more in depth "pro" tool with the topology and other features. I've had my eye on one for a few weeks now. Having a hard time deciding between the Phoenix plus and the Launch x431 pro3s+.
Just ordered one yesterday and I’m stoked to play with it lol
My Autel MS906 PRO records all PIDs even if I don't hit the record button. I'm not sure if it saves the recording once I leave that screen unless I hit the record button but as long as I'm on that screen I can scroll back to the point when I first brought up that information.
The unboxing part was the best diagnostic video you've ever done.😋😋j/k
I picked up the Autel MK808 and it doesn't do bidirectional that I can tell but if I ever have to dig that deep into my vehicle it's goin to the man anyway.
It does now with a software update
@@x01e I was wondering about that. $175ish for the update last time it bitched at me. Might be worth it.
If the Topdon is like the Autel it includes all those OBDI connectors but doesn't support OBD1. I've got a box of adapters with my Autel that never work on OBD1 cars because they don't support OBD1.
Wonder what it's hard drive size is because it's identical to my Launch x431 Pros Mini and it's memory is full just by updating each vehicle manufacturer diag files because it's got a Tiny 32gb hard drive which most of it is used by Android @ScannerDanner
Thanks for helping others with your code.
So a much needed 1,800 phone number is needed.
Is a working phone number included?
Looks just like Launch platform. X431 V pad $800 with 3 years free updates.
thanks so much for the video paul. Regards
Mac, Launch and Topdon all run this software on their tablets now. Ive used all 3 and they seem to be identical,
Thanks for the video
Ouch 🤣...everyone has done something like that...i hv
Danner your a great person god bless you
Nice! What does the Phoenix Plus offer compared to this? I am going to buy either one.
no way anyone would prefer this when Launch exists. the daigun is better and costs less
. Was nice to see someone else struggling with all the adapters and their hook up. I was starting to question my ability (and sanity). I recently purchased a Thinktool scanner and I was in the same boat. The manual was unhelpful to say the least.
So two situations I ran into recently that my Launch couldn't do (or I couldn't find it), working on a 2012 Ford F150, needed to turn on cooling fans and second was working on a 2004 LandRover Discovery, needed to turn on SAI components (like the solenoid and blower), does this scanner do that ?
Questions for the manufacturer. Sorry, I do not know
This tool os looking intriguing! Really looking forward to seeing you use this more!
The port on the scan tool is storage for the dongle aka VcI aka DLC
Snap On will have to compete reasonably $$
Other than that they will go under
Sorry In advance but I have to correct you. It’s St Jude Childrens Research Hospital, not St Judes.
The reason this is important is because the hospital belongs souly to the children. That’s a big part of who they are. Also to everybody who buys one of these using that code, Thank You! The cost to run st Jude exceeds a million dollars per day and every last piece of research they do is available to all cancer research facilities for free. They are making a real difference and this is a really cool way to give. Just another reason I love this channel
Did I have it wrong in the description?

Hey ScannerDanner. I am looking to upgrade my INOVA 5610 to either this one or to the INOVA 7111. I would like your thoughts which one might be better. I don't think I have seen you do a review of the INOVA 7111, but would it be better to get the TOPDON or the INOVA one.
I have no opinion on the INOVA never used one, sorry
Maybe a good scan tool but I wouldn't call it a budget it was over a grand 2 years ago... It's around 750$ now but it's still very expensive.. You can find some budget bidirectional scan tool around the 200-500$ mark.
Yep, I've reviewed many of them and never brought them to the public because they were all garbage!
Now that being said, check out the Topdon TopScan Pro! It's $100 and I'm completely blown away by it

My Autel Ultra offered BMS in SERVICE and it did not work. Autel messaged and said sorry friend we no support that. The Autel im608 pro I bought straight after wont do VW car keys and I was told due to VW stopping their servers. So I am arguing with the firm I bought it from because basically the Autel is no better than my other scan tool called OBDSTAR. I can honestly say I think Autel are full of shit. I dont trust their data. Plugged in to a Peugeot 2009 partner today which had ABS light on. It could not see faults in ABS. In live data on the im 608 pro it showed -30 air temp. RPM 118 and other rubbish data. Went out of manufacturer specific and back to EOBD just for protocol. It got to live data where the data was much more accurate. Basically I think Autel are POOP.
Okay I'll type in cheats budget scanners 7 to $800 is not a cheap budget scanner thats by directional I have seen other ones far more cheaper

That user interface looks a lot like Launch Gear Scan Plus UI, but blue instead of red. I wonder if one is just a rebranded version of the other?
I've heard the x431 is the same platform
Thankyou Paul for a very interesting video, do you know if the phoenix does injector coding by any chance, best wishes, Chris.
Not sure my friend
Looks promising! Hopefully their tech support, software updates, etc are too‽
I bought the key programmer and they were very responsive helping me with a software issue. Was quite impressed.
The top scan Bluetooth dongle has bi directional and it's $80 on Amazon. How does that stack up? Also foxwell makes some scan tablets with bi directional control for 200-300 there just seem to be too many similar options out there and most people want to find the most bang for the buck. HF has Zurich scanners which are basically rebranded Innova but what's the best option under $200? And is the ≤100 top scan a good\pro grade option? Right now I just upgrade from a POS actron orange scanner to the $60 craftsman with live data and battery\charging system testig but I want a bi directional scanner without spending an arm and a leg
Hi Paul. Is your e-book downloadable once purchased or is it only viewable on your site?
Website only but it is accessible from all your devices. I also maintain a database of all of my customers to make sure you always have access, even with a platform or hosting company change. We had one in May of 2023 and I made sure that over 12,000 people got moved over to the new site.

I've heard that as well

I just can't find a Bi Directional Scanner for my truck! Good info though!
Me screaming at my phone, maybe it's Bluetooth... Gr8 video!
Thanks, Gracias 👍
As cool as the topology feature on ALL of these Chinese aftermarket scanners is. They ARE NOT accurate and shouldn't be a key selling point. Not for their price. Trusting the topology feature of these scanners can lead you on a wild goose chase and cost you precious time and money. Remember it is not comparable to OEM topology that in most cases knows the as built equipment. Thus can accurately tell you what equipped modules have a communication fault. These aftermarket scanners just send out a call for communication and tell you who reported back. If no response, it says "Not equipped". That's is not accurate and is miss leading. Not worth the steep price these companies are asking for this half baked feature. No aftermarket scanner is comparable to OEM and no aftermarket does everything well. Know their strengths and weaknesses. They are cheaper than OEM for a reason.
I've got the topdon Proscan. Under $100 and it looks very similar with bidirectional control. So far like it for the price
Can this do EPB retraction?
Nice video. I have the Thinktool Pros which is another tool that uses Launch software like the Topdon and it works very well so far for the things I've used it for. It's the same one that Ivan with Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics uses and his videos of it inspired me to buy one.

I don't believe that benz 38 pin adapter will work on the 02 w210 chassis benz. You'll need a foxwell multiplex adapter as all the data come thru on a single pin and has to be put on the obdii Scann tool connector. My autel scans the w210 thru the obd2 port then when it hits 100% complete it tell me oh you need to hook into the 38pin connector. Of course it doesnt say you need the multiplexer to do that. After 05 I think all the data was available on the obd2 port.
Does the Autel MS996BT do anything that this can't? Like programming keys or anything else?
What do you think about the foxwell nt680 or nt710? Or the blue point eecr3a ? Looking for something inexpensive that has live data capabilities
I wouldn’t call this a budget tool, in my country 1250 euro excl VAT, so over 1500 euro’s including. And no option to fill in your code…
It is a compatible for 2003 CL500 Mercedes that has ABC active body control do it do rodeo in calibration
Does it work on Asian cars and trucks
Yes, worldwide coverage

This thing will not connect to my tacoma. Initially it says it connects but when I choose intelligent diagnostics I select the correct model etc and when I try to view health status or anything it says it cant connect
What's wrong with the truck? Have you considered it may be a network fault and you have a no com because of that?
I still dont see why you cant just program a tablet to do all of the same stuff.. theyre all just tablets themselves with beefed up ram and memory.. probably all run shitty intel processors given the low amount of processes they have to do compared to a new gaming pc.. the software would be an ordeal to program but the specific device is likely only cheaper parts and pieces custom built for the work intended..
what is a good choice for toyotas
Wow, I wish I would have seen this video before purchasing my Autel MS996BT. Not taking anything away from the Autel I have but I could've saved a lot of money.

I do some light gasoline vehicles, just not as much.
I see that your son works with you. He is lucky to have such a great mentor as you!
