NEVER underestimate a good scanner. Here's a funny story. I have been disabled for a decade plus. But I started a small side hustle to save some money. I finally had 10K, so I bought my truck that was burnt out on the inside, I figured 5-6K to restore it and fix it up, 2nd Gen ram, kinda a dream truck for me. Well, I spent over 10K to get it done, and rebuild top end of engine. Low and Behond, I ran out of money. I have NO SCANNER and the engine won't even spin tires in wet grass. I paid 2 "mechanics" to come diagnose it, none had a clue. So, although it runs and drives, I can not use it as a TRUCK. My guess is the 'Fuel Timing" is off but it takes a good scanner to fix it. So back to saving up for 6 months for a scanner, I wanted the $800 topdon and WILL get it some day.

Out here in Northern California I do a lot of gold prospecting/mining using metal detectors. I have an addiction to metal detectors, I have seven. I also work on vehicles out of my home based shop. I almost have the same level of addiction to scan tools. I have the Autel 906bt and the ThinkTool pros. I might have to add this one.
I would love to have the new autel or topdon. I never knew how blessed I was to be in good health until my fail started declining. I truly understand why nothing is more important then your health. When people said that i never really understood.

Great video! Got the topdon phoenix max the other day. Was looking at the launch x431 pad vII and the autel maxisys ultra but went for this one. It looks super quality.
I've heard the launch x431 is basically the Phoenix but without US support? And of course no scope The autel ultra is another very comparable tool to the topdon phoenix max. Glad you like it!
The T30000 I love for extended diag work or quick charging when I come to a dead battery. Awesome tools. That Phoenix max though 😍. Someday I will own one. Right now I use the Phoenix plus with lifetime updates thanks to Kip Neusch of advance auto parts 💯

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I recently bought Hantek 1008 lab-scope. Scope gets everything, pretty much as Pico scope but it's affordable. I would like to try any other non expensive lab scope tool as Phoenix MAX.

The Thinktools are excellent. The Think Tool Pro S has a 10 inch screen and bidirectional controls. Thinktool Pro is the same but has 8 inch screen i think. They cannot do ECU programming, only ecu coding. I have Thinktool mini, great DIY tool , 350 dollars, scans all modules, tons of live data, and has free lifetime updates but no bidirectional controls or coding unless you pay $50 per Make, per year.

I understand that for a professional, who spends $2K+ for a scan tool, $800 or so is a bargain. For a DIY who uses a scan tool infrequently, it's out of reach.
There's options but any bidirectional tools will lean toward costs that most DIYers will have an issue with. Thinkdiag dongle for phones and other tooling is geared for DIYers but costly tooling is more reason to pay for that professional diagnosis by a true diagnostician. I gaurantee my diag work as long as I'm paid for the time needed to get to the bottom of it. So when you find a good diagnostics guy, there shouldn't be an issue.

My Autel MS906BT came with all those adapters but hasn't worked on a single OBDI car I've tried it on. It's for those cars that were right around the 1996 era and had both OBDI and OBDII.

He seems to be very happy with it's capabilities. How would you compare the 2 with cost and functionality?? Am a big fan of both of you and respect your opinions.

According to the TOPDON coverage list, Eyesite (both versions) and Rear Vehicle Detection are listed. Why would you say they are not covered? The Subaru targets are even included in the Basic Mobile kit.
I stopped watching your channel a while back.. Then my truck Ive owned for 23 years went weird and not one local mechanic wanted to touch it. When Hurricane Ian passed by me I drove to work and when I came out my truck went crazy... I live in South Florida and I wish you were local Its at the dealer now and they havent talked to me in 2 days since I dropped it. 1999 f250 superduty 5.4. I enter the truck the blower motor is running. I start the truck in panic of a dead battery and then when I drove it the mph gauge started fluctuating wild and the instrument cluster flashed the check engine and the engine acted like it was going to stall and then recovered. Then the 5 speed automatic started shifting super hard into D and OD .. then it shopped shifting into drive and would only do low and 2nd. When I backed into my driveway I heard a howl whistle from the transmission that disappears when you put it back into drive, the blinkers worked with key out of ignit..... I stopped by several shops and none would take it. One told me the GEM module and fusebox. SO I ordered both and installed them myself along with new ingition switch and now the truck starts well and randomly loses power like its in limp mode. or like when a speedometer limiter makes the engine cut out and when you let off the gas the rpm drops then recovers for a short time like when you let off approaching a light ... Also with the key off if you play with the climate controls occasionally you get a response like clicking. Lastly now there is a parasitic draw that kills the battery overnight. I wish I knew how to fix it. I hope ford can fix it.. I wish there was a local mechanic in your group that I could have taken the truck to..

Hey Paul if you're checking out tools check out the foxwell 809 scanner it's pretty decent it's only like $400 and it's an all-around scanner too I don't think it has a oscilloscope built in
I will be doing more of that in the future. I just want to do it legally and there are so many stipulations and even country specific ones! It made me look away from doing it before.
It's a nice perk but brings problems on its own if it's tools you don't use. I want to promote my training, not merch on my channel if that makes sense.

I've got the Phoenix lite 2. Great and fast tool. Only thing I do not like is it's kinda weird with toyotas and nissans with identifying the vehicles.

Yes sir, just did one on a 2018 Jeep. Cost $50 for the AutoAuth account and then I registered my compatible scan tools. It was really no big deal

Does this actually work on OBDI systems?
Why wouldn't it? It has the adapters. I've not used it yet however

It does not work on pre 1996 vehicles. The adapters are for post 1996 that still had separate systems from the OBD2 port.

Both tools have the same back end software. The difference is going to be in the service. IMO TOPDON has a better warranty and service program
I'd love to see more of the Autel tools, in my opinion they are better.

Topdon will not allow eyesight/Rab/Bsd calibration on Subarus that’s a no go. Autel does.
