Adam Rupp does use a loop live. Adam Chance the baritone is making the “jaw harp” sound in this. You should check out Adam Rupp “Drum Solo” to get a glimpse into his abilities.
when it comes to Tim you haven't heard low yet.. lol that man.... has multiple times in live shows gone so low that he has killed Professional Speaker Systems.. the most insane thing about him is that while his bass is somewhere below the basement he's got such a range that he can also sing up in the Tenor's area... which... has caused them in live skits to be able to have a little fun with it cause the 2 Tenors are like "Woah Woah Woah.... get back down there where you belong buddy" I'd highly recommend Helplessly Hopeless(cover of Crosby Stills and Nash) it's delicious to your ears... or the version of Misty Mountains by Peter Hollens that includes Tim.... it's like an Eargasm for a bass head... almost the entire song you are amazed by the arrangement.. you are amazed by Peter but at the end of it you are like.. "Tim has to be part Dragon"
late to the party, but their cover of Mayday shows off Tim's higher range as well which is absolutely beautiful! A must watch and I'd love to see your reaction to it!
I’ve seen them live . They use a loop station to keep the beat going during the harmonica. Live they actually do dueling harmonicas with Adam Rupp (beat boxer) and Austin (first singe/lead tenor). They use a looping station for a few of their more recent songs. The jaw harp is actually being done by Adam Chance (Baritone/second Bass).
New Subscriber My dear sister, Angie (lost to us in 2004 - cancer) was the high school coral music teacher for Mankato East HS, Mankato MN. Chris and Adam Rupp were her students at Mankato East. I remember her telling me once that "someday, these guys are going to be famous." She was SO right. I have seen Home Free, live, several times. They are even more wonderful in person. In the past, it was only Adam who performed the beatbox. But now, I don't know. Once after a Friends and Family concert in St Cloud MN, I stood in line for the guys as they signed autographs. When I got to Chris (no longer with the group) and Adam I told them I was Angle's sister...I got a big hug from each of them. I couldn't help but shed a few years when I told them what she'd said to me years before. They were obviously moved by her memory. She was very loved by her students. I'm looking forward to the time I get to see them again. Hopefully, I won't have to wait to long.
Adam Rupp is beat boxer, Tim Faust is bass/tenor and all in between, Rob (the beard) is tenor and Austin is lead tenor, Chance is baritone/bass and he was the one making the jaw harp sound. They are amazing
Austin is a Georgia boy so comes by his country twang honestly. He can also turn off the twang when needed. Yes, a looper is used live. There are a number of live videos on UA-cam if you are interested in watching. (included my channel) Thanks for the Home Free reaction.
oh, love your vids! those helps in making me love home free more since I fell in love with their sense of humor Loved Tim and his confident smirk and sassy eyebrow raised but hearing them just goofing around made me love him more and the group
yep Austin is from Macon Ga if i remember correctly..his twang in natural..even before he started with home free when he was a cruise ship performer they said it was noticable
Jane Ames- he’s actually from Tifton, which isn’t really all that far from Macon. It’s kinda between Valdosta (where I lived for eight years) and Macon.
Definitely start with How Great Thou Art and hold off on Mayday for a few more songs... get to know them first. Moonshine is another song they do well!!
i agree with Dusty Brooks... he needs to be familiarized with each members' voice and the group's sound overall. I heard MayDay in Spotify, I liked the song but hearing it without the video cheapened the experience. Plus, Im a new home fry and im just familiarizing myself with them (hence spotify) and did not know about Chance by that time
@Ken Lavigne, you ought to react to their cover of "Helplessly Hoping" to hear their pure vocals. And their "How Great Thou Art" is literally incomparable.
I second this, along with "go rest high on that mountain" but that needs to be listened to on a speaker setup with a good subwoofer to get the full effect of that absolutely heavenly song.
"Helplessly Hoping" and "Auld Lang Syne" are two of my favorite Home Free works. They excellently portray just what each guy can do with his voice and just what a five part harmony is. If you listen carefully toward the end of Auld Lang Syne you'll hear Austin in a beautiful flute-like insertion and it's just the prettiest thing I wish he did more of. They have a number of humorous pieces that are worth your time. "Champaign Taste" is very clever.
I second this suggestion. It's one of their more complex arrangements, the video setting is unique, each of them gets an opportunity to shine, and Tim hits a couple of monster low notes.
Great reaction, you’re the first reactor who nailed the jaw harp as well as their use of a looping station for this song. They do use a live looper in concert for this song.
I'll add my vote to those recommending "Helplessly Hoping" or "How Great Thou Art" for a listen. Both are awesome and very moving. Another good direction to go would be to look at some of their more fun/catchy numbers like the "Butts Remix" or "All about the Bass." I would hold off on "Mayday" until you've become familiar with how they generally do things so you can appreciate it more. Truly though, you can't go wrong with anything from Home Free.
They released a new video two weeks ago called Moonshine.....really cool and the beat boxer does his thing. There'll be another video premiering tomorrow. They've been doing this since the pandemic started. Just trying to keep spirits up. Adam...beat boxer does use a Looper for some of the songs. They show the audience how it works. This is a great group of guys that just want to have fun, but also can be very serious. Thanks for a great reaction.
And now for something completely different! HOME FREE singing HELPLESSLY HOPING. Pure vocals, amazing harmony, stunning visuals, and NOT COUNTRY. Please do a reaction to this video. Thank you for your wonderful insights, I'm a vocalists as well, and I really appreciate it.
Great reactions on the last two Home Free songs. They are amazing. One thing to consider is, when you pause (and pausing is great), hit that back 5 second button so you don't miss something wonderful. These are so chock full of goodness that I found myself yelling "NO" a couple of places where you paused because I knew the next second something was coming up.
They use looper on just two song when they are live. This one and Castle On The Hill. But for an extra twist, when they do this one live, Austin, the tenor soloist joins the beatboxer, Adam, for the harmonica break. Harmonica harmony... It's pretty cool.
For something up tempo and fun check out their cover of "Can't Stop The Feeling", for something deep their cover of John Mayer's "In The Blood" and for a laugh their "Butts Remix". Hard to go wrong with anything Home Free offers really. Thanks for your reactions!
🇨🇦 Fellow Canuck, new-ish subscriber (on the Ring of Fire reaction). You will be hard-presses to find any Home Free cover or original that does not amaze you. So many great recommendations already - I would add Country Roads (apparently they took 5 years to craft the arrangement to where they felt they’d done John Denver justice). Their plethora of recent pandemic videos (every 2 weeks!) are fantastic and very creative because they live in 3 different Staes - Austin & Tim in Nashville, Chance in LA, Rob and Adam in Minneapolis: Quarantine, Meet in the Middle, Diamond Dreams, Everybody Walking This Land (must watch the brief comments at the end), Moonshine and more. Their catalogue is very deep, there are so many more still to come. Looking forward to more Home Free reactions!
I SUBSCRIBED. I really do like to watch vocal coaches react to Home Free. Educational. There are so many reasons that I love this group, over & above the amazing harmony. Maintaining that low "humm". Sure am glad that you mentioned that! In "Go Rest High On That Mountain" Chance does it throughout the whole song. And our multi tasking beat boxer does similarly in the tenor range. I don't know if anyone mentioned in your 300 comments, Chance was the jaw harp. I think (could be wrong) that Rob usually does the yodelling. He whistles really well also. One of the things that I love about this group is that you can understand every word. Every thing is completed. COME DOWN & JOIN US HOME FRIES IN THE RABBIT HOLE. You will have some great fun.
"Chocolate cream covered bacon with maple syrup"... Exactly. And kudos for explaining the use of vocalic R and L to enhance that country (or in this case folk) sound.
Just saw them live in Chattanooga last Thursday. Yes, they use a looper live - in fact, Adam even does a whole number just by himself using the looper. So amazing! Also, now Austin provides a SECOND harmonica note to get that mini-chord going during the harmonica solo! 😃
On this particular song, they do a looper when doing the song live because the jaw harp actually hurts Chances' throat to do it for long (he's the baritone). I believe they also loop the dos as well so that they are free to do more stuff in the song. They have videos of them doing this live, just have to search for it.
This is my first time joining you for your reaction. I appreciate your level of music knowledge. It definitely adds to your commentary. (It doesn't hurt that I'm a major home fry either!)
Hey Ken, so glad you reacted again to Home Free. PLEASE PLEASE react to their cover of Helplessly Hoping a Crosby Stills & Nash song. It's a piece of work, and hoping to see a vocal coach actually see how good their harmonies are....you'll be pleased and astonished I believe. You'll not think some country bumpkins can produce that kind of art.
They are all capable of beatboxing for backup (esp Rob, tenor), not like Adam tho cuz he's incredible (!), but as already mentioned, a looper is used in this song live. If you're interested in hearing some Home Free songs that truly show off their skill & musicality, check the following (below). Their talent goes above & beyond on these. These skills are why (I feel) HF outshines other a capella groups. There are a lot of great groups out there, but (IMO) none match the 'skill' & experience of HF. I'd love to see your reaction to each song. . "Helplessly Hoping" - This one really shows their "skills"; their clean harmony, perfect unison, precise synchronization, great arrangement - just perfect! It will leave you speechless. . "I can't Outrun You" - Haunting harmony with outstanding chords & sung with feeling that will send chills down your spine. Perfect matching video too. . "Yours" - Using vocal layers, the fullness in this arrangement is really satisfying. Again... incredible chords that are rarely heard! . "Finally Free" - Using lots of vocal layers & vocal sound effects such as a mere high whistle (probably by Rob), gives this song unique texture in chords & resonance. . "Fishin' In The Dark/Boondocks" - Just a fun mashup by the mashup masters, & a fun & different video. Loved the analysis!! Thx!!
I've seen them live... More than one of the group can beatbox as needed to help Adam. Not that he needs it. Catch his beatbox "drum solo" - he is insane. They also never shift - 2 hours of show and steady the whole way.
New Subscriber Here : ) Really excited to see more vocal coaches reacting to Home Free, its always nice to see people point out all the little things that most people dont notice or just write off. If you want some more Home Free suggestions, next would have to be either How Great Thou Art or Helplessly Hoping, the harmonies are just godly
'Color' -- 'Texture' -- 'Idiomatic' -- 'Genre' -- etc. Nice use of very appropriate words to describe this beautiful version of 'Man of Constant Sorrow'
So, in your first video for them, Chris Rupp, their beatboxer’s brother, was singing baritone. He was one of the original members and has since left the group and gone solo. This video has their current baritone, Adam Chance, who goes by Chance to avoid confusion with Adam Rupp, the beatboxer. Chance was the bassist for Street Corner Symphony, another a cappella group. He also has terrific range. He was the one doing the throat singing in this to imitate a jew’s harp.
I think that Chance is the best pick for replacing Chris, he fits in so well and so easily. It didn't take much for us home homefries to love Chance just as much as Chris.
I subscribed! Would love to see your reaction to their version of “How Great Thou Art”. The beatboxer puts his vocal percussion to rest and adds a fifth voice to their harmonies. It’s a stunning classic a capella.
They've added the loop station to their live shows but they haven't always used one. Some of their arrangements are so intricate. I would love to see a reaction to their cover of Folsom Prison Blues which just came out yesterday. I had tickets to see Home Free tonight in Toronto but it's been indefinitely postponed. 😭
Now you can watch End of the road, 7 bridges road. If you want some fun go for Butts Medley, live hilarious guilty pleasures, all About That Bass...I could go on forever...
New subscriber here. The latest in their 'quarantine editions' is Moonshine, which is a lot of fun. They are labeled country acapella, which they excel at but are really very versatile. They have a great cover of End Of The Road by BoyzllMen. Mayday is top notch, but most fans recommend that you wait til you have done a few others before you react to it. There is a little surprise to enjoy.
So happy I found this video of yours. My 4yo makes me play this song on repeat every day for months now. I still can’t wrap my head around how he makes a harmonica with his mouth!
My dad, who passed recently, was a huge Frank Sinatra fan. I credit him for me liking the classics as much as I do. Bless you for having a poster of him. Sub'd!
I subscribed, great reaction. That is what country people call a juice harp and that is Chance doing that sound not Adam. Home Fry here. Their connection with the camera in this video is great. Check out Mayday also Woman/Amen/Female also Some Girls Do also Blue ain't your Color
Oh, what a lovely and moving rendition of "Man of Constant Sorrow". Home Free is my second favorite a cappella group after VoicePlay. But, my hands down favorite rendition of this song in Peter, Paul and Mary's 1962 recording of "Sorrow".
They use a loop station for the jaw harp. Live Adam does a five minute drum solo where he goes from a set to techno. It’s amazing. Tim hits notes so low during the concert that it vibrates your eyeballs. They are mind blowing live. If you get the chance go see them!
I understand they have over 100 songs on youtube. For a few more that I can think of: "Blue Ain't Your Color", "Champagne Taste (On A Beer Budget)", "Leave This Town", "Your Man", and for originals "Dive Bar Saints" and "Moonshine". That's not to mention "God bless The USA", "Children Go Where I Send Thee", "Quarantine", etc., etc.

Your reactions are as “delicious” as the videos you check out, great job on this one! I subscribed; Ive watched probably most of the Home Free reactions to this song and you are rare one to pick up on the nuances they put into the work, song and video and arrangement. You should check out their Mayday cover; most others will comment you should wait a few videos, but I think you will get it.
@@KenLavigne If you have already seen this you should react to 4th Power (first audition XFactor). ua-cam.com/video/H7YRRaOgpUk/v-deo.html And Courtney Hadwin on AGT ua-cam.com/video/d59H0UxhyaY/v-deo.html Also Jai Waetford (XFactor first audition) ua-cam.com/video/ZpyZs_JCQko/v-deo.html
I see that others have mentioned that it's Adam Chance (known as Chance, to differentiate him from Adam Rupp, who is the brother of Chris Rupp, who started group but is now on his own) does the jaw harp. Austin Brown is from Georgia. He gets his authentic country sound pretty naturally. ;-) They do use a looper for some of their songs--including in live situations. Usually, in this one (live) Austin does a "harmonica" duet with Adam (Rupp). The bass is Tim Foust. Adam Chance is the Baritone (jaw harp, as well, as mentioned). Rob Lundquist is the 1st tenor. Once you get deeper into their stuff, you'll really enjoy his work, I think. I see that someone else has mentioned "Helplessly Hoping." Here's the link for it... Adam Rupp does use a loop live. Adam Chance the baritone is making the “jaw harp” sound in this. You should check out Adam Rupp “Drum Solo” to get a glimpse into his abilities.
Yes, please do this one!
Yeah, Chance is basically using throat singing to get that sound out.
Yes Adam is Freak of nature his abilities are endless
Adam also has a nice tenor when he’s singing. He has a few solo lines in How Great Thou Art.
Adam does use a loop but not for this song. Chance uses the looper for this song.
Austin Brown is the only tenor that I've ever heard who can be smooth while growling out a vowel. This whole band in indescribably great.
I would like to hear him sing the song from the movie The Hobbit: Misty Mountains Cold, i bet it would be the best version of all.
when it comes to Tim you haven't heard low yet.. lol that man.... has multiple times in live shows gone so low that he has killed Professional Speaker Systems.. the most insane thing about him is that while his bass is somewhere below the basement he's got such a range that he can also sing up in the Tenor's area... which... has caused them in live skits to be able to have a little fun with it cause the 2 Tenors are like "Woah Woah Woah.... get back down there where you belong buddy" I'd highly recommend Helplessly Hopeless(cover of Crosby Stills and Nash) it's delicious to your ears... or the version of Misty Mountains by Peter Hollens that includes Tim.... it's like an Eargasm for a bass head... almost the entire song you are amazed by the arrangement.. you are amazed by Peter but at the end of it you are like.. Listen to them doing Pretty Woman during the competition.
Tim's lows are measured on the Richter scale (See NBC's Sing Off Season 4)
@@davidwiger6024 to quote Gitana Adelle..... "He's got HUGE Knackers."
Richard Sterban beats him though. Then again richard is a seasoned veteran of singing bass.
late to the party, but their cover of Mayday shows off Tim's higher range as well which is absolutely beautiful!
Great info I've always wondered how they would do this live, high 5 home fry.
I've seen them live too and agree with 100% of this post !!

Watching live performances of this song blows me away, cause you realize Adam Rupp REALLY does just sound like a harmonica.
The bass singer (Tim) is beyond unbelievable! Few people on the planet with his ability. A treasure to listen to.
Austin is a Georgia boy so comes by his country twang honestly. He can also turn off the twang when needed. Yes, a looper is used live. There are a number of live videos on UA-cam if you are interested in watching. (included my channel) Thanks for the Home Free reaction.

I think it's cool to not just imitate an instrument, but to do it well enough that they actually give you a solo.
Listen to Home Free - Mayday or How great thou art.
Mayday will have more "wtf" value if he does a couple other songs first though. :)
Both songs that MUST be listened to. Please!!!
Definitely start with How Great Thou Art and hold off on Mayday for a few more songs... get to know them first. Moonshine is another song they do well!!

He's a voice coach and singer. He would notice the Tim part in Mayday. Maybe listen to Some Girls Do first, to hear Chance.
@Ken Lavigne, you ought to react to their cover of "Helplessly Hoping" to hear their pure vocals. And their "How Great Thou Art" is literally incomparable.
I heartily agree. Their cover of "Helplessly Hoping" is absolutely flawless.
I second this, along with "go rest high on that mountain" but that needs to be listened to on a speaker setup with a good subwoofer to get the full effect of that absolutely heavenly song.
The beatboxer does use a loop, however Austin (1st tenor) can also do that harmonica technique so they do it together live.
Just near the end, the last of the jaw harp sounds, you can see Chance doing it. Adds SO much to the whole feel of the song.
Is Chance the one that no one talks about? He's getting shafted so hard.
The last time I was this early the original singer was a Boy of Occasional Sadness.
Nicely done!
Well played indeed!
Signed Phil, the prince of insufficient light
He does use looper live but not much. Saw them in Sydney Australia in Feb. Tims lows vibrate the air
I love your reaction. Home Free is awesome ! Choosing any video you're never disappointed.

@@warriormaiden9829 LOL That one started life as a very silly song but they brought it to the top with the video! It's priceless.
An amazing arrangement of theirs, put together by Adam Rupp their beatboxer, it Do You Hear What I Hear. One of their best, I think.
I second this suggestion. It's one of their more complex arrangements, the video setting is unique, each of them gets an opportunity to shine, and Tim hits a couple of monster low notes.
Adam's beatboxing is epic. As is Tim's 5-octave run...
Misty Mountain with Tim and Peter Hollens. Seven Bridges
I would love to see him review Seven Bridges Road but Eagles lawyers are notoriously aggressive at pulling their songs down from UA-cam.
You’re one of the few reactors who actually analyzes the whole group and song instead of that on member Tim 😃 appreciate that 🙏
"How great thou art", "Helplessly Hoping" and "Auld Lang syne", no beatbox and the harmonies are beautiful!! 💚
This was filmed in the southern part of the gorgeous state of Alabama.
We have such great land diversity and it was a perfect place to film this.
Great reaction, you’re the first reactor who nailed the jaw harp as well as their use of a looping station for this song. They do use a live looper in concert for this song.
Thanks for the reaction, glad I stopped by.....
"Chocolate cream covered bacon with a side of syrup!" Perfect description! Salty, sweet, delicious, craving!

Yeah. But you need to get at least five Home Free videos under your belt before you can really appreciate Mayday.
On this particular song, they do a looper when doing the song live because the jaw harp actually hurts Chances' throat to do it for long (he's the baritone). I believe they also loop the dos as well so that they are free to do more stuff in the song. They have videos of them doing this live, just have to search for it.
I subscribed.. hahha... anyways this is my second time watching u.... loved ur channel and hope to see more of home free reaction...
This is my first time joining you for your reaction. I appreciate your level of music knowledge. It definitely adds to your commentary. (It doesn't hurt that I'm a major home fry either!)
Welcome aboard!
It's not the beat boxer (Adam Rupp) who does the jaw harp It's Adam Chance (Known as Chance in the group) He stands to the left in the back row.
Bruh. Your name is killing me 🤣
You’re finally doing this one!
New Subscriber Here : )
Really excited to see more vocal coaches reacting to Home Free, its always nice to see people point out all the little things that most people dont notice or just write off.
If you want some more Home Free suggestions, next would have to be either How Great Thou Art or Helplessly Hoping, the harmonies are just godly
This was a wonderful reaction. Thank you. Please, next react to voiceplay singing “Oogie Boogie ”.
Ken, i want to say thank you for introducing them to me now, i love them immediately...❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
"Tim's bass is amazing" Then he drops another octave. Those doing reactions using earbuds often miss that.
I would love to see you react to Mayday, Helplessly hoping and In the blood.
Great reaction. Love this group. Moonshine is a song every one should react to.
They have been doing loops for a couple of years now to add to the texture. When you see them in a live show they loop you in so you can see it.
I love the version from the movie but I was looking for different versions of this song and came across this band ... 🤯🤯🤯🤯
@@annemchurchwell Well, he was handpicked by Chris, from what I heard.
Chocolate Cream Covered Bacon with a side of Maple Syrup.... why do I love that phrase so much? xD
I subscribed! Would love to see your reaction to their version of “How Great Thou Art”. The beatboxer puts his vocal percussion to rest and adds a fifth voice to their harmonies. It’s a stunning classic a capella.
Thanks for subbing! I think that may be my next Home Free reaction.
Following up from your comment, please react to their live version of this cover! It will blow you away
We call Austin's voice to be like butter, so smooth!
Do about 3 more songs of theirs then do their Mayday.. but only as the 5th or 6th reaction
I definitely second this
Now you can watch End of the road, 7 bridges road.
I subscribed!
I recently watch a lot of song reactions and every time home free pops up I get so excited. The faces are always priceless!
In a live performance, he will use a loop station. The baritone, Adam Chase, is doing the jaw harp. He uses a loop for that as it hurts his throat.
New subscriber here! Love your analogy of a painting (texture, etc). Such a tight harmonic blend! I'm impressed with your comments and reaction!!
They do a fantastic duet of Elvira with The Oakridge Boys.
I totally lost it when you unpaused and got rolled over by Tim's "bottomless" bass 😂
My dad, who passed recently, was a huge Frank Sinatra fan. I credit him for me liking the classics as much as I do. Bless you for having a poster of him. Sub'd!
"Sweet Angina"!?..I love your exclamations! I subscribed...just found your channel through Home free...Keep going..you'll enjoy yourself immensely!
Thank you, I will
Thankyou for your wonderful reactions.Your on the ball and you have a very friendly smile.❤
I subscribed, great reaction. That is what country people call a juice harp and that is Chance doing that sound not Adam. Home Fry here. Their connection with the camera in this video is great. Check out Mayday also Woman/Amen/Female also Some Girls Do also Blue ain't your Color
Hello karen cradic, thanks for commenting!
End of the road is awesome also
Oh, what a lovely and moving rendition of "Man of Constant Sorrow".
Home Free won The sing Off 4, 2 yrs after friends Ptx (did "Ring Of Fure"-w/Avi/then bass/Ptx)..They started out soul/pop, now more country-ish/soul/pop &:did the "extra southern" thing for this iconic song, tho can sing anything amazingly, espec. live.
Home Free +Ptx are the 2 BEST Selling All Vocal Bands intheWOrld z+ usually travel globally, but...All very tall, take turns leading, kind,, funny, songwriters, arrangers, multi-instrumentalists, etc..Example-Adam Rupp-best a cappella beatboxer ever plays trumpet, guitar, bass, piano/keys, drums, etc -bboxes a full concert + a 10 min. solo, all crazy talented like that!

Awesome! Thank you! I will check it out. Thanks for the comment and the suggestion!
@@KenLavigne If you have already seen this you should react to 4th Power (first audition XFactor).

So wish u would rewind 3-4 seconds on ur pauses to catch the full moment again after u give ur thoughts about it ...
"Helplessly Hoping" (by Crosby, Stills & Nash--Cover by Home Free--Staged & Directed by Chance)

Looking forward to seeing more of your reactions. Thanks for this one. :-D
Mayday for Tim's range. How great thou art for visual and musical tingles up your leg.
Once you are sure that you are aware of who has bass, and who has baritone range...you should check their cover of Mayday for a surprise
This band has so much amazing talent. Please listen to their version of How Great Thou Art. So beautiful
