The Timelords were operating under a strict budget while growing the Type-40 models. This is why there were so many 'door handle'-esque levers. The later Type-41 and Type-42 models corrected this issue of confusion and labeled the many door handles appropriately, and the Type-44 model replaced the door handles entirely with an assortment of other switches and levers. It is also why the Type-40 was considered 'obsolete' by the majority of higher status Gallifreyans. They had utterly no idea of which handle, gadget, or flip operated which essential function.
Of course the Tardis actually doesn't need labels if you notice all the controls are mechanical in nature analog There isn't enough room for them to reach the engine though and while you may bring up the fact of the boxes bigger on the inside you most likely would attempt to minimize the need for that due to risk of dimensional collapse I don't think they're actually connected to anything they fly the ship through a metaphysical connection to the Tardis Matrix
Please keep I coming. This is a rich mine. Would love to see discussions of the console that sent Pertwee to another universe, the auxiliary console of Tom Baker, and the McGann console especially, it every one of ‘‘em would get a like fro me.
Wonderful stuff. If I may, the central column was not, in fact, originally called the time rotor. The first doctor refers to something else on the console as that device but over the ensuing years it has become convention to refer to the central cylinder in that way.
To quote a recent used song 'Would'nt it be nice...', if Daleks 63-88 looks at the evolution of the metal meanies from the planet Skaro, how about having The TARDIS builders make their UA-cam channel or site giving us visual and audio info on the old girl since day one and finally put to bed all the myth and legends regarding the prop PPCB's there has been. Eg: it was once thought that Billy's first box was a leftover from Dixon of Dock Green and had to be altered to fit in the lift at Lime Grove studios and also give a definite answer to the inconsistencies between the pilot episode and the transmitted version of An Unearthly Child with regards to the bit about the door handles on the Police Box found in the junkyard, and that's just for starters. I mean I know that they have a vast amount of interest within the site, I used to be a member, but for some reason I can't get back in, my password hasn't changed, but it's never accepted, but I don't recall seeing much in the way of anything more 3D than the countless images, which some times are sadly flipped and won't tell they are one way or the other (it takes a lot of free time and I curious nature and young eyes), but like to misquote the tenth Doc 'There could be so much more'
the reason why the console and the walls were painted green is that in the original black and white era green showed up as a whiter white than actual white.
The Radiation Detection indicator wasn't ignored, just it was not observed properly working after the ship arrived on Skaro, if it had been, venturing out onto the surface of the planet may not have occurred, but then, that would have been another story...
The Eighth Doctor's control room is sublime so that's a big YES. About ten years ago I bought the Seventh Doctor's TARDIS, I found it in Marseille in the south of France, now I have the instructions thank you. Strange surprise, I think the master has been there, the TARDIS and the doctor have been miniaturized (I have a mini McCoy on a speaker) and I think I know the coordinates of Gallifrey... It's in China, I I have proof, it's written below. Joking aside, the quality of this box font is pretty good, I haven't needed to change the batteries yet. Unfortunately Doctor Who products and figurines are quite difficult to find in France, the series was broadcast in 1989, only a few episodes of the fourth Doc with disastrous sound effects (the voices and the sound being recorded on a single track, having to redo everything) and was broadcast very early in the morning and unfortunately did not meet its audience. The 1996 Telefilm was translated and broadcast but without the context of the 26 years of broadcasting the French could not like it. Since 2006 the series has more and more fans, a team of crazy people subtitled all of the first 26 seasons (thanks to them) but even with dubbing professionals, fans are disappointed and prefer to watch the original version (just an example, in The Crimson Horror, The Doctor evokes T. Jovanka when talking about the difficulty of bringing her back to Heathrow. In French, Teagan becomes an Australian man) In short, it's depressing that a monument on your television is treated so badly. I stop here before writing a book. Thanks for your videos.
This is so well incredibly thought out! In regard to the space-time slide coordinate controls I always liked the explanation, ‘While it may seem unlikely that a fifteen digit set of coordinates could precisely locate any point in space and time it should be noted the Gallifreyans might not have a base 10 counting system. The first two digits designate the Vector, the second two the Quadrant, the next seven digits represent the exact spatial location, and the last four digits represent the temporal location. These last digits advance steadily as a TARDIS "moves" forward in time. It should be noted that the Directional Unit doesn't do 'BC' and all dates will need to be positive’ . . .
I would be very curious to see what you do with the 8th doctor's console as it has a lot of fine detail controls on it. Excellent video and I look forward to seeing more in the future.
The time rotor isn't the column. It's a console component that is sometimes in the central column but sometimes isn't. It's a common error to call the column the rotor so don't feel too bad.
Given that it's now commonly associated with the thing in the middle is the time rotor and the only thing that states it is not is a line by the first doctor it's safe to assume that he doesn't know what he's talking about He was nearly killed because of spring got stuck he doesn't know anything about this machine until he's on his third incarnation that combined with the fact that he was from that point on the legal owner of the TARDIS seemed to be a little gift sort of like how his third Incarnation was skilled at everything perhaps someone was fond of him

Light green vs White - I believe it's one of those black and white production oddities, but I think I've read that, light green was often used when the appearance of white was desired because it appeared white on screen while reducing the chance of glare?
The switches that look like door handles are repurposed to door handles building a time machine is expensive it requires an entire solar system being destroyed just to get the Supernova to power the thing you got to save costs

I just have to say the time rotor isnt the moving thing in the middle, thats called the time column, the time rotor is a device located under the console, dont worry everybody gets that wrong
Love these videos. If I could offer some constructive criticism though, adding some quiet ambient music underneath the dialogue would go far in audience enjoyment. Also moving the mic slightly back would do far to minimise the wet mouth noises
Not bad but I think a lot of the controls here don't add up. Production quality is definitely there though, with the animation and rendering. Often thought of doing a similar thing.

Yeah, it’s very clearly a one-cylinder engine, not a rotary.
Its actual name is the time column

"Wouldn't it be nice, to always be right ?" - Tom Baker
I'd be surprised if the screws could be seen as much more than blurry dots on the black-and-white 405-line TVs of that era.
I believe that the exterior 3 lights do not move around with the rest of the rotor but besides that this is a phenomenal console

Just like the Retroencabulator, lots of technical jargon.
How about the control room of the forgotten Time Lord, and excellent adversary of the Doctor….”The Rani”.
