Been searching for "dji mini motovlog" for a few days. Great to see one fitted to a helmet. Looking forward to hearing how it performs on the road. Ride safe Mark!
@@NJWMOTO I had the gain at -6 but it seemed a bit too quiet. I was filming on the motorway at the time with a lot of wind noise. I need to do some more testing. I've just subscribed to your channel, so be good to see how you get on with it.
Hi Mark, is it possible for you to test the mic below the seat? Just to capture the engine sound, with a cloth or a sponge so that it does not move around while riding. I'm looking for something to do that and maybe this mic will do great. Thanks!
I really like the 32 bit float on the Mic2 for onboard recording it allows me to record the engine note without any of the clipping I was getting before - I dont however record my voice during the ride rather a voiceover in post as all my videos are reviews and I prefer the capibility of reviewing what I say - looks like it will work perfectly for your needs be interested to see how you get on with it subbed - cheers Mike
Hello Mark, thanks for the video. Just a quick question. How did you connected the magnet to the helmet ? With some velcro or glue it straight-away in to the helmet ?
Hi Mark, I have a GoPro and planning to purchase the Action 5 Pro and the mic mini. I use the quick capture on the GoPro on my helmet cam and will use it on the Action 5 as well. If i pair the Action 5 with the mic mini or mic 2, when I turn stop video recording, it turns off the camera. I would assume this breaks the connection between the camera and the mic. Now if i start recording again by pressing the record button which in quick capture mode will turn on the camera and start recording, will it automatically re-establish the connection with the mic? Also if I don't record for some time (let's say anything hour) and start recording will the camera establish the connection and wake-up the mic cos I'd think the mic might go into sleep mode (not sure if it does). Have you tried this?
It does reestablish the connection with the "Mic2". Not sure about the Mic mini, waiting to find out myself. As for pressing quick capture after 1 hour, I'm not really sure but I guess it would if you disable the "auto turn off" feature in the mic settings. Have to try that one out.
Hi Mark , just found your channel, was looking at moving from my mic 2 to one of these, 11 hrs & a great price, but yeah it's the Size in the helmet for my vlogs, Sent you a sub bud, cheers & ride safe
The Mics are both paired to a DJI Action 5 camera. They pair very quickly and seem to be working well. I'm just trying to figure out the best settings. Thanks for watching.
Can I ask what you used to stick the magnet to your helmet. I’ve just got my mic mini and it’s not gonna work in the intended place so I’m gonna have to use the magnet. Cheers.
I have been waiting for someone to post about the mini while motovlogging. I have a OA5P. I also would like to know how you mount the magnet in the Neotec 2 which I have.
Thank you for watching and commenting. If you check out my other video on the Shoei Neotec 2, it has the mic install. Although I've had to move its position to where it is now in this vid.
@Mark-Thornhill thanks, I did manage to watch it. Did you go out on the bike and test it. Waiting to pull the trigger on this mic, hoping that the connection between the camera (chin mounted and handlebar) is solid.
@@auldreekiebiker8464 I didn’t want to share it because I am sick and tired of helping UA-camrs and then them doing better than me but I don’t care anymore. It is what it is if it’s shit don’t watch it.
Literally just ordered the osmo action 5, and mic mini 2. Won’t be using it until next year though, as I’m a fair weather rider 😂… would be great to know how you get on with the setup
I have one question. I've done this with DJI Mic 2 , and the biggest issue I found is the standby time so when you don't want to record and then you do suddenly want to record the mic is switched itself off therefore you then record a load of footage without any microphone how does the new Mike help with that problem? If at all what I would like to know is has it got continuous standby but I doubt that would be the case there is the problem right there I feel. What do you think? Come back to me?
Thanks for watching and commenting. I've had a play with standby today and the mini is the same as mic 2. It just turns off if left in standby and doesn't power back on when you power up the camera. Bit of a pain but I just tend to keep recording so I don't forget it.
@@lifeisarideukapparently you can turn off this. Not tried it yet, as I’ve only just ordered this setup, but there is an auto off setting which can be turned off
@@millsonwheels4528 well let me know if it works if it stays on standby for its full duration of the battery that’s a good thing. The only downside I see is the delay in connection and the unsure of the connection. How does one tell you’ve got good audio connection unless you can see the indicator on the back of the DJI action four or five which that would depend on your Set Up keep me posted thanks
@@lifeisarideuk the mic2 I believe "vibrates" when it re-establishes connection with the camera, I usually depend on that to know for sure, as I can feel it in the helmet near where I've mounted the mic inside the helmet near my chin
I'm curious as to how you fitted a magnet in the helmet? Was there a piece of metal in there to stick the magnet on? Also, I tried several mics, and the wind noise always caused noise distortion as my Osmo Action 1 had no gain adjustment, what other kit do you use to record? Currently I use a lav mic with the Dji Mic2 and 32bit float audio that I match up to the video from the Osmo Action, works ok.
Hi Nats, Thank you for your question. I stuck the mic in using tape backed Velcro. If you watch my other video of the Shoei Neotec, it shows it in full, although the placement has now changed slightly. As for equipment, it's just a DJI Action 5 pro camera and 1 x Mic 2 under my bike seat form the exhaust noise and the Mic Mini in my helmet. Mic 2 is set at -12 gain and the Mini I'm still trialing.
@@simonaleman6946 I watched a few of the big motovlog channels and they where using -12 due to how close the mic was to the exhaust. This was to prevent the clipping with the volume overpowering the mic. I'm still in the trial process, so I'll see what works best with a few ride outs. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Mark. Quick question, does the mic mini buzz like the Mic2 does when it starts and stops recording? I find that really useful
No, there's no buzz on the Mini
@@Mark-Thornhill Thanks. That's a shame but I guess if it had the motor for it it wouldn't be 10g and the size of a pound coin.
