Note :“Mama,” Ozzy’s pet name for Sharon Osbourne, the mother of his children as well as his wife and manager, was the inspiration behind this song’s title-at the end of each tour, he tells her, “Mama, I’m coming home!” The song and its title were handed to MOTORHEADS’s LEMMY KILMISTER who wrote the song about missing home and returning, despite the dark history one has had there.
yeah I always thought talking bout his mama. lol but Sharon. Still great song. ......all this time I made my son feel bad. "see, Ozzy luvs his mom!" hahahahaaaa
@@kevinsteadman7215 I know people like to bash on her but you are spot on. Without Sharon, there would be no Ozzy. And I think that is true even today. If something happened to her or had she been taken by cancer years back, Ozzy wouldn't last the year. She is his rock and reason for living.
About Ozzy's background: He and his Black Sabbath bandmates are from a gritty, industrial city in England called Birmingham. It was either work in the factories or find some way not to, and the band ended up being their ticket out of it. As for this song, it was co-written with Lemmy (from Motorhead) and Zakk Wylde, who's the guitarist on this track. So it's unclear to what extent it's about Ozzy's own mother. But either way, it's a hell of a power ballad! Next stop: "Close My Eyes Forever" (featuring Lita Ford).
My grandfather was born in Birmingham England and got out while he was young and made it to Canada. I never knew that was where Ozzy was from! Thanks for the info!
Birmingham in the 60's, 70's and 80's suffered like most industrial towns in Britain but Birmingham is also the second largest town in the UK and fortunes varied widely amongst its population. It wasn't all bad.

"Mama, I'm Coming Home" peaked @ #28 on the Billboard Pop chart in 1992. It was the 4th and last of Ozzy's solo records to chart; he previously charted twice as lead singer of Black Sabbath ("Paranoid" & "Iron Man" in the early 70s)

Lzzy Hale joined Lita on this song when I saw them on tour in 2016, Lilac also covers this and the above did amazing jobs on this beloved song in Rock.
Back in 90-92, while stationed in Japan, the one TV channel for US military personnel, used to show the return flights information while playing three different song in rotation every single evening: Home Sweet Home by Motley Crew, Flying in a Blue Dream by Joe Satriani and this song. Thinking about my beloved wife and son, it made me yearn for my return home. Oh, this song still hits me!
I have a soft spot for Rock Ballads. Ozzy are so good. I love this song. I just about jumped off my chair when I saw you two were going to review this one. He has so much passion in his voice with this song. OH, right to my heart
I loved that song. Ozzy has a beautiful voice. He did a duet with his daughter Kelly "Changes". It's a gorgeous song. Maybe you could react to that. ❤💙🎙🎵
If you want to hear Ozzy doing a duet with Elton John,on his latest album there is a beautiful and moving ballad called Ordinary Man,the video is also emotional...
Sharon said on an episode of BGT, when a guy covered this sond, that Ozzy wrote this song for her when he was coming home from a really long tour, and things were stressed between them. He was basically saying that he had done things wrong and was changing to be better with her.
Ozzy has a lot of emotional songs. Road to Nowhere, Time after Time, Goodbye to Romance, Fire in the Sky, All my Life and Ordinary Man are all songs that showcases the depth of his music most people aren’t aware of.
Changes is another great sensitive song from Ozzy, he and his daughter Kelly sang it together at some point and it was very emotional for me, especially being a daddy’s girl and it hit even harder after losing my dad. You guys really need to react to that version!!
When you guys get the chance, you absolutely have to check out a song known as Hero, it doesn't have an official title as it's a hidden track from No Rest for The Wicked. you will absolutely will not regret it!!!!
Finally .....so happy to see you guys react to Ozzy, he does several ballads as a solo artist. But I do hope you react to some early Ozzy like I Don't Know, or Mr. Crowley so you can hear one of the very best guitarists in Ozzy's original music partner Randy Rhoads. He also does a beautiful ballad called Goodbye To Romance ....any of these greats I believe you will both enjoy....Happy Mother's Day to all.... peace, love, and happiness to all!!! From your friendly neighbor from the north... 😎🙏❤🇨🇦
Zakk Wylde can shred on guitar. But this solo also demonstrates his experience in playing tastefully. His string bends are spot on,no fast notes and he even tosses in a tribute to the Hotel California guitar solo at the end. Arguably my favorite Ozzy song.
Zakk Wylde is an amazing guitarist and in person? One of the sweetest people you'd ever want to meet. I wish this had been the live version. Zakk and his bell-bottomed leather pants is quite a sight...minus the grizzly adams beard. A clean shaven, baby-faced Zakk is so pretty ☺
As others have said, Ozzy is a genuine rock god. Others may have mentioned this too: Sharon called Lemmy, singer, bass player and lyricist with Motorhead, asking him to write seven songs for Ozzy, for $100,000. Lemmy said "where do I sign?!" Though Motorhead's music is known for the fast rock n roll (as Lemmy called it), early thrash/metal/punk, Lemmy could write great ballads too. He wrote the seven songs, Ozzy used four - this was one of them. Was lucky to see Ozzy with Zak Wylde in the 1980s, then finally reunited with Black Sabbath in 2013. Both great gigs.
One of the craziest yet beautiful love stories is the love between Ozzie and Sharon. Gone through hell and high water time and time but they're still standing.
Love Ozzy. My first live concert was back in 85’ Ultimate Sin Tour in Phoenix, Az. No More Tears is one of his best album. Saw that tour as well. I never missed an Ozzy Tour. God Bless Ozzy Prince Of Darkness...
Yes, I agree. Another power song is "Close My Eyes Forever" that Ozzy did with Lita Ford. Oh, and if you choose to do that, you might do Lita's "Kiss Me Deadly", too.
Written by Lemmy Kilmister of MOTORHEAD...he wrote 2 other songs on this album, both great. Ozzy was shocked at how close to home this hit for him...it was like he explained his relationship with Sharon better than he did. Whenever Lemmy writes a ballad, watch out.. hes coming to crush your heart. Despite his appearance and reputationation, Lemmy was a literate and incredibly well read wordsmith that knew how to use language like an emotional scalpel.
