You also need to know that these folks do not make up his regular band or group. There are a combo of artists in their own right/name or great session players who tour/gig it up with the best of the smooth jazz artistry, like Mr. Lorber. The sax player has performed with just about any/all names/bands in smooth jazz and Sonny, the percussionist, used to play regularly on gigs around the globe with Lee Ritenour. Just outstanding musical chops by all of them.
The Jeff Lorber fusion slapped me in the face late 70s early 80s when I lived for the weekend, and the jazz funk-jazz fusion scene at Scamps night club Leicester, England. We were way ahead of the pack. Funk, fusion and Latin jazz all Dayers in Notts, the northern soul crews upstairs on the big dance floor, jazz crews downstairs with more of a club feel. So many cool people and amazing dancers.
Jeff Lober is just the best, all his music is just 🔥. If you can go back to his early stuff when it was called Jeff Lober fusion and you'll be amazed. Kenny G played with him back then.
And all these people saying Kenny G is vapid & soulless. They wouldn't say that if they had heard him, as I did at the Roxy, w/ Lorber in the 70s. They blew the roof off the place. Absolutely sensational!! And Kenny Gorelick was the original saxophonist on the records on all these tunes that Eric The Great is now playing!
Jeff Lorber, Yellowjackets, Chick Corea Elektric band, and Rippingtons the 4 greatest jazz fusion musicians/bands, no one else comes close in that genre.
Great, Mr Lorber, genius of jazz, your music is fantastic... Maestro yo escucho su música desde que tenía 18 años... Hace 38 años, Thanks for this performance, from México city
Sonny's not just a great drummer but also quite the joker. Saw him in Montreal some years ago, very friendly fellow. Unfortunately I forgot to ask him where he's picked that "majorette" trick with his sticks that doesn't look easy at all. Only other drummer I knew of that did that routinely without ever dropping a stick was the late drumming legend Neil Peart. Being compared with the best of the best is befitting of Sonny. I regard the gigs he does with Lee Ritenour (most of the time with Dave Grusin) as the best ones, Ritenour has the knack for drawing talent from those who have the most to offer. It's also obvious that the feeling of respect is mutual between those two.
Mareinthal's soloing chops are far better than the rest and this is coming from a keyboardist who idolized Lorber back in the old days. But, all sounds good. Glad I got a chance to see these guys live.
Nate Phillips, YESSIR!!!! So versatile!!! He was the bassist for Pleasure, one of the most underrated Top 40 bands ever! It's no accident that Jeff Lorber has hired most of the former Pleasure band members that included Bruce Carter (drums), Marlan McClain (Guitar) and Dennis Springer (sax). I really miss the amazing Danny Wilson, bass player supreme!!! What happened to him???
Yes you do my friend!! I have been a fan from back in Portland in the mid 70's. It's all good buy check out some of his early improve albums. ( Oh ya...I mean CD's )
9 years later, this STILL hits just right. Never fails to impress!
Loving how Eric phrases his bars!
This group is the BEST incarnation of Jeff Lorber Fusion. I wish there were more videos of this specific group posted.
The drummer- Sonny Emory- is one of the best of all time.
Very underrated Drummer, Mr. Sonny Emory ! Simply Brilliant Gentleman !!
I am ashamed to say that I have only just come across Mr Jeff Lorber and his pals in the past hour. I guess I have lots to discover.

Love Jeff Lorber still as good as ever. The drummer is awesome and all the musicians are top notch!
Jeff is very generous in his compositions. Each one is helping the other sound better

Fock! Gets me off, four decades later. I have it on vinyl from back then. Nice to hear live.

It has been nice watching Eric Marienthal develop over past 30 years. Boys GOT CHOPS! Jeff has always had great drummers. Still miss Dennis Bradford
Jeff Lorber Fusion: Innovation and soul. Thanks for the vid.
Sure looks like Calvin my bass player from Seattle 1984 on the drums..he was a jazz guy primarily..
Professional musicians that play with soul and love of music
Jeff Lorber, Yellowjackets, Chick Corea Elektric band, and Rippingtons the 4 greatest jazz fusion musicians/bands, no one else comes close in that genre.

Sheesh. Really, does playing and feel get any better? Groovalicious. Absolute precision. Monstrous playing.
I've been listening to JL since the late '70s. He just as good now as he was back then. Really good chops.

Sony never over plays.
This is about as good as it gets - these players and in this category of jazz. Reminds me of the great Yellowjackets a bit.

I've just realised what a shit drummer I am. But I'm now inspired. Amazing!
That's what Sonny will do to you--either slap you up, or make you want to pawn your kit.
To feel outclassed by another musician and feel absolutely inspired by it to achieve greater heights is best feeling ever
Never knew sonny emory played with jeff!!!
que bien que se escucha :)
I'm pretty sure this was at Iridium in NYC a couple yrs ago. I sat up front, @ watched this session.
