- When it comes to Banana bread, this STICKY WALNUT UPSIDE DOWN BANANA BREAD is hard to beat, the combination of flavors like bananas with vanilla, brown sugar and the ground cloves take it up to the top, and most special of all is the sticky sweet crunch of the walnuts with it all. This delicious recipe is a good one to follow when you have dark ripe bananas that no one in the family wants to eat, the riper the sweeter they get and that makes a winner banana bread. I love sticky buns, and I make delicious cinnamon rolls, if not the best and the sticky part is just so good…I decided to give it a try and turn this banana bread into a sticky walnut upside down banana bread, and I got a winner. I love baking several in disposable tin pans then wrapping them up pretty and give them out to neighbors and friends as Christmas gifts, or just slicing it up and serving it on a platter to family and friends during the holidays, it freezes well too. NUT TOPPING INGREDIENTS ____________
1/2 STICK MELTED BUTTER (4 TBSP)
1/4 C. BROWN SUGAR
1/4 C. CORN SYRUP
1 C. CHOPPED WALNUTS
BANANA BREAD INGREDIENTS _______________
1 3/4 C. All purpose flour
1/4 C. Brown sugar
1/4 C. white sugar (granulated)
1 stick melted butter (8 Tbsp)
2 large eggs (room temperature)
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp Baking soda
1/8 tsp ground cloves
3/4 tsp Cinnamon
3 very ripe bananas
3 TIPS----
1. Let nutty topping mixture cool and set some in baking dish before adding batter
2. Bake 350° for approximately 50 minutes or till toothpick comes out clean, depending on your oven and dish it could take less or more time.
3. Once out of the oven let cool for 3-5 minutes then flip over (not longer) so nuts won’t stick, if some do just remove them with fork and position them on bread.
4. Use caution and wear oven mitts when handling hot dish.

I will use pecans (because I have them) and my tried and true banana bread recipe, Thank you for your inspiration. Was out of Karo syrup so I used raw honey instead was out of walnuts and used pecans it's a beautiful loaf of bread thank you so much Rachel your explanation and steps for this recipe were perfect!

Hi Rachel! Made your sticky banana bread yesterday. It was delicious! However I may have goofed. I baked it in a metal loaf pan and the sticky part did not stay on the bottom but ran up the sides. But high praises for a delicious bread that is 3/4 gone.
