Your sarcasm is awesome and very British… your english teacher taught you well 👏
I own a 2010 Range Rover sport watching you every week makes me realise I'm not competent enough to do my own repairs, plus I'm not that young for straining and struggling. It's funny that people who don't own Discos or RRovers still watch your channel, it's also strange that a lot of people say how bad Land Rover products are but still own or want one.
We love Land Rover.
Nice vehicles, but I could never afford to run or maintain one, and I certainly don't have the mechanical skills even with a Haynes manual guiding me step by step. However I do enjoy to watch things being fixed, especially by skilled and knowledgable mechanics - it's very relaxing and interesting.
I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee and you might be surprised to know that there are many, many similarities between my Jeep and the Discovery 3/4 in regards to the mechanical systems. The Jeep is very similar is so many ways.
My wife insisted on a Land Rover for her last vehicle and I was very hesitant having been raised by a professional mechanic and trained to DIY almost everything. That was 5-odd years ago and although there is a multiple to apply to just about everything it needs (where does this special motor oil come from anyway?) it has been a very comfortable and reliable vehicle if its just a mall crawler. My advice, is if you don't want to DIY it, then you absolutely have to have "a guy" because the dealerships are crazy expensive for these things.
Us Landcruiser Amazon owners just watch in disbelief that so much can go wrong so often ..300,000 kilometres 😂😂 it’s just about run in mileage for an Amazon ..love this channel ..👍👍
The great thing about the Discovery is that you get to go through these procedures regularly and so you learn to become a LR mechanic at the same time as owning these great cars.
Good morning to you, my Germanic brethren😁. My wife bought me a huge socket set for my birthday, I need to buy a Discovery to practice on.
Don't do it until she agrees to the lathe installed in the kitchen 🤣
😅💪💪💪I like her🙋♀️
Not sure what's more entertaining, the troubleshooting/repair or the husband/wife interaction! The combination of the two is priceless. New subscriber, and binge watching past episodes to catch up. I am a Manufacturing Engineer in Florida and can attest to the German engineering quality. Cannot understand people being mean about this content. Don't change a thing. OMG OMG OMG!!! priceless!
Thanks.
What an elegant solution to hold that clip on. Nice to see some cow farm action too.My farther died this week so been sad, thank you for raising my spirits this Sunday morning with some LR Time
I'm so sorry mate. I can't comprehend the amount of hurt your going thru, and wishing you the best.
My condolences, I hope you are doing well.
Hi Johnny. Sorry to hear about your dad. It’ll soon be 3 years since my dad died. I gave a lot of his tools to my nephew but I kept some too.
There are times I pick something up to do a job & it’ll be one of his tools. I then take a moment to remember the times we’d tackle a job together even when he was older. When the rawness of the initial grief passes the good memories come back.
My condolences.
Hello Hohnny, really sorry to read about your loss. 😌🙏🙋♀️
I’ve been watching for so long, but I never comment. Always wanted a LR, but never had one, don’t and couldn’t do my own maintenance. But, Sunday morning are special because I can settle down with my German friends and solve a problem with them. They’re an amazingly skilled, knowledgeable, fun couple who I look forward to seeing every week. Thank you for all your hard work.
Thanks
I find it hard to imagine anyone hating you guys 😁
I hate them, they cost me £20,000 by making me buy a Discovery 4!! 😢❤❤
@@MrSnicol why did they put a gun to your head 🤣
Love the show guys. Watching all these repairs each week convinces me to keep my perfectly running lr3 covered for yet another week to delay breaking. 😉
My weekend is now complete. I can't believe that I bought Chocolate Ginger Bread after watching you, while you were fixing the "Queen".( buy the way they are nice! )Very addictive to watch your videos. Loving the content.
😅👍🙏🙋♀️
One thing is for sure, your humor about the Land Rovers is adorable. Keep it up!!
Just had my full English breakfast and now watched the video with another coffee , very nice work C & V as always a good laugh and learn on Sunday. Have a good one ...see you next week
Love it. I am now planning my two post lift slab for my new shed. Even my wife is convinced it is essential! All the best from SW WA, Australia.
😅👍🙋♀️
I was amazed at how many miles you have covered since you did this last time. Treating your D3 or Land Rover like a classic car is exactly the way to maintain these vehicles. Regular tinkering and fettling will give it best chance of not letting you down. They can be complicated beasts but so rewarding when they are behaving and as you said Vera, such a good looking vehicle especially since it is 18 years old but still looks fresh 👍🏻😁 on the cable ends where you use your plumbing pliers to removed them from the backplate I alwasy smear a bit of silicone on there to stop the water trickling in.
wait for the next video on my Disco. It is even more obvious that these old Land Rovers have to be treated like a classic whose parts are difficult to optain. 😅👍🙋♀️
Ha ha! My German friend Manfred will be so pleased that used the word “Catastrophe”. Thank you Vera!
As you mentioned, Christian, electronic Handbrake failure is more common on Manual LR’s , because most of us that have the Automatic versions use the ‘P’ to act as our handbrake.
The problem being that when it does go wrong, often due to not enough use, everything is often very seized and difficult to undo to repair.
I think it is probably best to at least use the handbook occasionally.
Why somebody like Powerful UK has not come up with an alternative proper lever operated Handbrake system, I don’t know.
A similar system is used on the New Holland ‘T’ series tractors, which automatically applies itself whenever the tractor is placed in neutral. When it goes wrong, which it surely will, it is a real pain.
Fortunately for me, my one is too old to have that system. I’m in no hurry to change it for the younger version!
I suspect that the advent of electric emergency brakes was somewhat for legal reasons. If applied at speed, the normal ABS system uses them to gradually brake the car, versus allowing people to lock up the rear wheels to perform "bootlegger turns" etc. They usually engage when parking, also act as hill-holder clutches.
When Christian fitted the spare wheel to the car, I was hoping that he was going to say “We need more air“ like Arnie in the movie Total Recall. Aah well, maybe next time😂
I felt your happiness once you heard it work properly!
Here we go.. Entertainment time...🎉 Now for a coffee ☕ 👌
Hey guys another thrilling episode of LR3 maintenance. My 05 is due its 120,000 mile timing belt change and everything that goes with that, incl the oil pump of course, along with an a/c repair. I'm going to disagree just a little with Vera, omg, I don't personally think the Discovery is difficult to maintain, there is just a large amount to maintain and pretty regularly too.! Thanks for the brilliant videos, they really make my Sunday x
😅👍Wait for the next video. Most of what we say, especially I, is not necessarily directed to the able DIY mechanic. They don't watch us normally since they don't need any help. But for the beginner DIY Land Rover mechanic, it is a difficult. 😃👌🙋♀️Vera
Watching your excellent videos confirms that the car for me is my 1962 Dodge Dart with enough room to sleep in the engine bay and no fiddley parts I'd never get my hands around. Thanks for another great one!
ITS LR TIME😊😊😊 great episode today.this job was made to look easy and precision work.great humor and precise work.see you all next week.stay safe😊😊😊
Daumen hoch
Great and a brilliant job! Very rewarding when you improve on something and get those cogs well greased Concern over the cable ends where they meet the brakes - water ingress as pointed out by Vera, as you've done just pack with waterproof grease, I get through tons of it on machinery. One comment, as I've mentioned before, get the small rigid mud flap spats that stop all that spray up onto the outside of the wheel arch! My OCD kicking in.... bloody desktop mechanics! Maintenance on these vehicles is not for the faint hearted, and the facilities and amount of kit you have is better than most garages - they would just say replace, and another 5K please!
Guten Sonntagmorgen Vera & Christian 😊 Just got a brew so I can watch another LR time fixing video before I go to work 🤣 Excellent 👌🏼 Nice seeing the Queen sunbathing while you both wrestle with Vera’s handbrake actuator 🤩 Loved it especially the spring cap fix sweet 👍🏻 Have a great week so until next week see ya 👋🏻 And as always hug 🤗 and kisses for Vera xxxx
🤗🙏🙋♀️
YYYeeeaahh sunday repair time?? Cristian, why do you still fight Vera, you NEED to listen to what she tells you, because "Vera knows her sh-t" ! Thanks again for the entertainment!
Thank you😅💪👍🙏 Got into argument yesterday because he ordered a wrench we already had, and he did not believe me.😂But I am so happy that we only have to argue about stuff like that, or when he sits in the passenger seat. I do feel very priviledged to be married to Christian. 🙋♀️
I'm in USA. I have a D5 TDV6. I love you all's channel. ❤
Great content, great duo. Those 8 hours just flew by !
Lol.
What a beautiful place you live in.
Iv'e had my 2004 discovery 3 since 2016 and feel very lucky to have a very reasonably priced mechanic who knows these cars inside out so i dont have to do these repairs myself .
👍💪🙋♀️
Yet another masterfull appearance from the teutonic duo. Thanks.
Good all have a great Sunday looking forward to this 👍👍👍
Well done guy's, another great job. Great Sunday morning viewing - you do all the work so I don't have to!?! 😂 Always count down to Vera's first mention of food. 🥪🍲👍🏼
😅🙏🙋♀️
I have a late 2008 Discovery with the later spare wheel bracket. By accident I found that if you drop the back part of the exhaust system you can access the module quite a bit easier!
Mental note.. if the handbrake fails take it to a garage. I'll stick to adjusting only. Shame LR couldn't come up with a simpler design. The old style (defender, d1, d2) handbrake on back of centre diff are easier to work on but needed regular adjustment to stay effective. An electric disc version of that could have been very good. There's a company that does disc conversion for that old defender handbrake.
Don't worry, other car manufacturers have also EPBs installed, not just Land Rover. And from the comments we get, they fail just the same. 👍🙋♀️
excellent video as always
Another fabulous look at Land Rover life! Btw - BritPart parts all fail early on my 3 P38 Range Rovers!
Sunday Morning.. Bacon sandwich cup of tea.... LR Time....👍
Brilliant. An important job done properly and filmed wonderfully.
I hate working on drum brake type parking brake. Since it uses servo effect, to make it "zero touch" brake pad to drum while able to achieve maximum bite at maximum cable pull is impossible. Always the new brake pad is actually mild touching the drum. Its easy to hear, while car jack up all 4 wheels and engage 1st gear. It hurts to hear and see that dark side of a drum brake design.
However, I enjoy seeing Vera n Chris doing the job, its fun to watch as always.😊
I really enjoy him working on those drum brakes. It brings back a lot of memories of my families wheel and brake shop when I was a kid watching my father and grandfather work on them.
I love Discovery 3's but thanks to your very informative videos I will never own one! Keep up the good work.
Allen, we have sinned. We bought an other one last week. It was so pretty and cheap and screamed fix my engine. Christian
I look forward to it! @@Vera_and_Christian
The great thing about a Land Rover is that you get to redo old content and show new ways to improve things, can't do that with a Toyota!
Oh stop being a bore. This is maintenance. Don’t tell me Toyotas don’t need maintenance
@@hughmarcus1 Had a sense of humour bypass have we?
😅💪👍 Sometimes, whey you read through the comments, you actually see real time maintenance experiences from Toyota drivers, and I mean not the Corolla type Toyotas. 🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian I had to go to my friends Toyota Land Cruiser that had broken down and jump it from my RRS. I then advised him to sort his auxiliary belt out as it was loose and despite him having 2 batteries they both still needed an alternator to charge 🤣 Sadly after that my belt tensioner decided to have a fit so I am changing the belt, tensioner and alternator pulley this weekend on Mine such is LR life.
Well done guys ..great job !! Im just waiting on a 2009 Sport 3.6 TDV8 thankfully the handbrake has just been done on it
Well done Christian and Vera
You do have to be careful around majesticly resting land rovers and range rovers because you don't want to startle them. Doing so may cause them to expel there fluids and drop parts.
May I say I think your videos are bloody marvellous, you clearly know what you are doing, very informative and comical too. I once owned 4 landys, series 2, discovery series 1, freelander series 1 and a 1988 county 110, absolutely great vehicles especially the 1964 series 2, so simple and the 110 county why did land rovers have to spoil them with complicated electronics 🙄🙄keep up the great videos..
🤗🙏🙋♀️
Thanks again Vera and Christian.
I see that Vera put a bit of video in for the Australians 🙂
Started watching this and reminded me of my fixes to cars using a few tools from wembley market! Yes that was a long time ago. I now want to make my life hell. So will buy a range Rover next year. BTW I am a toyota man!
😅👍🙋♀️
Great content as usual guys. Useful and entertaining. I look forward to more work on the L405
25:04 1. A woman is always right.
2. If a woman is wrong, refer to point 1.
Love the videos 😂
Greetings from a summery Auckland.
😅👍🙋♀️
It is very difficult to put a price on the value of a Discovery 3/4 (LR3/4), because it depends so much on an individual's purpose for owning it, but if you can cope with the cost or difficulty of the maintenance that is needed, for some of us it is the perfect car all round. I'm on my fifth, a D4, and I actually prefer it to my 2020 RRS, which is far more exciting to drive.
Absolutely, and people should think about that before they sign the contract. Because once you have it and cannot keep up with the repairs, or workshop costs, it will break your heart. 😌😅🙋♀️
very similar to Renault module / BMW module - the cables outer sheath crack - lets in water and seizes causing strain on motor, so brushes wear out - new motor £38 / cables £75 and replace the small blue relay £5 on circuit board - done 2 now on Grand Scenic's vs £800 from Renault + programming
The Discovery one is similar money from LR 😩
Favourite thing to watch on a Sunday morning. Don’t even own a landrover!
Thanks for watching.
Hi Christian and Vera, good sunday 👏
Thank you for my Sunday fix of LR TIME. I'm heading to the pyrenees in my LR3 in September so your videos are very helpful. Thank you. 🙂 oh my god 😂😂😂
Pyrenees are great 👍
Thank you very much for the good video! With copper grease / paste there is now only criticism on many channels, although I have not had any bad experiences. It would be interesting to briefly report on such topics!
We use it, daily. I comment every time, when we show it in the video, how essential it is to us. 👍🙋♀️
Great job guys love it helps me emotionally recover from my troubles of trying to repair my own parking brake😂
😅👍🙋♀️
OMG Cristian hanging up side down for a second LOL
That was Tom Cruise 😊
😅👍🙋♀️
Smart mod on hand brake great idea👍
Another fabulous Sunday video & i don't even own a Land Rover
Great video! Greatings from South Africa.
Land Rover looks to me a nice car, when you are a desktop mechanic hihi. The only think I'm missing in your video's os showing your Snap-on toolbox and makes thinks new and or bride and shinny no because it is needed but because the have no idea what they doing hahaha, like other video's.
My experiences with english cars is ways back in the century but it is not changed. Really nice video, thx.
Christian do you think early L494 is same parking brake arrangement ..? Great informative video. All best .
Amazing work again Christian, i wish you were my neighbour haha.
My 06 has the parking module broken. I don’t ever use it so I have been dreading fixing it. I know the gears are stripped on mines. I have more important things to tackle. Mines just reached 228k miles which is like 360k km? Just smelled a bit of coolant and coolant level was low. I went to find the coolant leak and I spotted power steering and engine oil leak. Still didn’t find the coolant leak.
I love my lr3 and I will keep it running forever. 10k trouble free miles after rebuilding trans.

I really would prefer an old fashioned manual park brake. When my D4 was under warranty I was 350km west of Alice Springs (Central Australia) and when we stopped for lunch I used the EPB. After about 20 minutes of driving after that I noticed a bad vibration and smoke coming from my right rear wheel. No alarms and no faults registered. The right rear wheel park brake was locked on but the left was wheel was free. Nobody has ever been able to explain how that could happen. Anyway after six nights of accommodation with a rental car the EPB, all cables, both rear discs and the right rear wheel bearing were replaced under warranty. The right rear components were severely heat damaged. Quite an expensive warranty repair undertaken in Alice Springs. Thankfully LR Assist were very responsive and also I had a satellite phone to contact them. Only took 4 hours for the flat bed truck to reach me. I don't use my EPB in remote areas anymore! I visited the service agent every day during the repair so I pretty much know how hard it is to remove the EPB from a D4.
I’ve been able to reset the module while still in the vehicle. Drop the exhaust and the top cover will prise off. I’ve found if the travel exceeds specs the threaded rod will jam against the stop on the L/R cable and the clutch mechanism screams its head off! Also when adjusting the handbrake shoes, there’s a little Allen screw which needs to be loosened prior to resetting the adjuster wheel then retightened after the ‘min’ 10 click wind back. Shocking design 😳
We have shown that in many videos. 👌👍🙋♀️
Makes me love my 04 D2 even more.....
Your videos has been very helpful to me❤❤ keep up the good work
I love watching you guys and I don’t even own a Land Rover or Range Rover. Go buy a Q5. 😋🏴👍
Another great video ,, not the easiest of jobs for sure
I was ok because we just installed it recently. Christian
If I can get the EPB out using this method I will sign up for your patreon!
With a few slight mods (file down the brake cable holder and removal of one of the rubber support grommets) it actually worked!! Reassembly will be a nightmare but it is better than removal of the rusty backplate.
Bring back the simple cable handbrake lever in the floor or under the dashboard... I've just had to replace both electric parking brake calipers on my 100,000 mile Golf. My 20 year old Passat with 210,000miles mechanical handbrake never had an issue. Progress? no.....

Lathe Rover would be a suitable name.
Nice timing as my Tdv8 sport is giving me issues with the hand brake,, from last night, but unlike your and my previous discovery it's automatic and I'm not using it until it gets looked at
Hi to LR time, I enjoy videos on land rovers and watching gives me a confidence to buy a Toyota. I remember advice my father gave me "avoid fast woman and never own a land rover" 😂
And miss out on all the excitement, of boths? 😳😅🙋♀️
If you come to Amsterdam and park on the canals near the clubs it is very important to have a functioning parking brake.
Lol 👍
Once again I’m amazed at your engineering skills. I wonder what land rover would have charged for replacing the actuator 😬
Around £1000 in the UK
Fantastic information and upgrade 😊
I get the impression that the unfilmed 'disagreements' between you are just as enlightening as the rest of the video.. pity there isn't enough time for us to enjoy them!
Oh yes. It is unfortunate that videos must to be no longer than 30 to 40 minutes. You are really missing out on 6 hours of fun. 😅👍🙋♀️
Good day indeed!
Green Monster & Energy Drinks.
A friend was a Hospital Consultant in the UK who specialised in renal care and diabetes, one night I was having dinner with her and had a Red Bull...she was horrified!
Her advice was to cut out all energy drinks from my diet as she said the single factor she had been seeing in new cases of diabetes was people's consumption of energy drinks.
The concoction of things they are putting in them is causing an epidemic of diabetes.
I've cut them out of my diet completely after what she was saying, I only used to have 1-3 a month but her first hand experience of treating people was enough to convince me.
Love to see your videos and I dont even ha e the dosco 3. Try my RRClassic 300tdi!
Morning guys 👍👍👍
It is fine to use bathroom RTV on a plastic part :)
There are even oil resistant and metal safe ones out there
Wonderful as usual
There is a guy who fixes small drills etc on UA-cam, he uses a lot of greese. to make less mess he keeps his greese in a medicale suringe which he uses when he has to add grease to the parts that need it. I thought that this could be a help for you especially as you go to a lot of trouble to keep everything clean.
I’m always a job behind you lol this is my next job
😅 Oh I hope your streak breaks soon, because you don‘t want to do what broke next on my Disco😩😅🙋♀️
Can I ask that roller pull out you have in the back , could it be done on a bigger scale. I want to make a pull out that can make me a cover to work on the car against my shed roof . Regards
You did it agin. Nice vid. Ps the white maker pen. Where to by one, please.
It‘s an edding. Amazon is your best bet.🙋♀️
Fantastic team
You should offer this snap-ring securing washer for sale :-)
I know this is a stupid joke but I'm going to ask it anyway: All that monster in the back, are you SURE it's not Krampus coming back to haunt you?? I thought you guys already chased the demons out of that old Land Rover before Christmas!
Having just spent all weekend doing the same job, I can tell you that you didn't need to remove the right side cable.
With the module in the car, unscrew the right side cable black large retainer from the module, then you can unclip the white clip, then then you can disconnect the right cable from the module. That saves you removing the right side cable at all!
To remove the module without removing the left cable, you have to dismantle the EPB in the vehicle, remove the dc motor and gearbox, and then unwind the leadscrew while working under the car. Terrible job, but at least you don't have to remove the cables.
Oh, and that bracket that the EPB mounts to above the differential? Just remove it completely. There are only 4 bolts to the chassis rails. Then you have plenty more space to work!
Lastly, regarding the snap ring slipping off... there are different gear sets from ebay and alibaba. One aftermarket set it tooled badly and the snap ring groove is very thin and prone to the e-clip slipping. Good to see you didn't use that type.. and there is a guy in Russia who made a complete brass shaft for the gear, but your custom retainer is a far more elegant solution!
Cheers from sunny Melbourne Australia!
We have already done a video on the epb, where we explain why we take out everything. And not open the cables on the module. 👍🙋♀️
So much work fur such a little thing. I wonder how much that would cost at a dealership.
Morning good video I look forward to your videos
Hi folks, was looking to purchase a diagnostic tool. I remember you showing the one you use i a video but cant find that video now, alot of recommendations for the bluetooth GAP tool but wanted to check what one you use
BT Gap tool 👍🙋♀️
Engine sounds good still never liked electric hand brake what's the point
theses two are happy now.....don't hold your breath
You must be new here. 😅👍🙋♀️
So.... I sold my 2011 L320 RR Sport 3.0 D and bought a 2009 L320 TDV8. I have to do the ACE pump or pipe as it leaks oil at a pace that makes a series 2 look frugal
