Not sure what's more entertaining, the troubleshooting/repair or the husband/wife interaction! The combination of the two is priceless. New subscriber, and binge watching past episodes to catch up. I am a Manufacturing Engineer in Florida and can attest to the German engineering quality. Cannot understand people being mean about this content. Don't change a thing. OMG OMG OMG!!! priceless!
I own a 2010 Range Rover sport watching you every week makes me realise I'm not competent enough to do my own repairs, plus I'm not that young for straining and struggling. It's funny that people who don't own Discos or RRovers still watch your channel, it's also strange that a lot of people say how bad Land Rover products are but still own or want one.
Nice vehicles, but I could never afford to run or maintain one, and I certainly don't have the mechanical skills even with a Haynes manual guiding me step by step. However I do enjoy to watch things being fixed, especially by skilled and knowledgable mechanics - it's very relaxing and interesting.
I own a Jeep Grand Cherokee and you might be surprised to know that there are many, many similarities between my Jeep and the Discovery 3/4 in regards to the mechanical systems. The Jeep is very similar is so many ways.
My wife insisted on a Land Rover for her last vehicle and I was very hesitant having been raised by a professional mechanic and trained to DIY almost everything. That was 5-odd years ago and although there is a multiple to apply to just about everything it needs (where does this special motor oil come from anyway?) it has been a very comfortable and reliable vehicle if its just a mall crawler. My advice, is if you don't want to DIY it, then you absolutely have to have "a guy" because the dealerships are crazy expensive for these things.
Us Landcruiser Amazon owners just watch in disbelief that so much can go wrong so often ..300,000 kilometres 😂😂 it’s just about run in mileage for an Amazon ..love this channel ..👍👍
The great thing about the Discovery is that you get to go through these procedures regularly and so you learn to become a LR mechanic at the same time as owning these great cars.
What an elegant solution to hold that clip on. Nice to see some cow farm action too.My farther died this week so been sad, thank you for raising my spirits this Sunday morning with some LR Time
Hi Johnny. Sorry to hear about your dad. It’ll soon be 3 years since my dad died. I gave a lot of his tools to my nephew but I kept some too. There are times I pick something up to do a job & it’ll be one of his tools. I then take a moment to remember the times we’d tackle a job together even when he was older. When the rawness of the initial grief passes the good memories come back.
So.... I've now watched over a dozen episodes of LR Time and none have them have failed to make me laugh! Great content you two, it's a little like watching a British situation comedy but with education thrown in. Cheers Andy. (L405 owner)
Yet another great video, Christian & Vera. I still haven't ever owned a Land Rover but return every week to enjoy your comedy humour and phenomenal repairs and re-engineering. I'm sorry you get too many desktop idiots who are most likely just jealous or stupid. Making UA-cam videos of this quality isn't easy, and you'll always get comments because too many people assume you've missed something when you don't show it
I’ve been watching for so long, but I never comment. Always wanted a LR, but never had one, don’t and couldn’t do my own maintenance. But, Sunday morning are special because I can settle down with my German friends and solve a problem with them. They’re an amazingly skilled, knowledgeable, fun couple who I look forward to seeing every week. Thank you for all your hard work.
Love the show guys. Watching all these repairs each week convinces me to keep my perfectly running lr3 covered for yet another week to delay breaking. 😉
My weekend is now complete. I can't believe that I bought Chocolate Ginger Bread after watching you, while you were fixing the "Queen".( buy the way they are nice! )Very addictive to watch your videos. Loving the content.
Started watching this and reminded me of my fixes to cars using a few tools from wembley market! Yes that was a long time ago. I now want to make my life hell. So will buy a range Rover next year. BTW I am a toyota man!
Honestly? It comes to something when the channel with the most "British" humour is actually German ... I have watched few of your videos over the months but for some reason ended up watching a number back -to-back of late and the humour, and great relationship, puts me in mind of my fiancé and I, and how we are when working on projects together. Plus I'm learning lots, for that dark day when I finally buy a LR/RR ... I need a big vehicle for my powered folding wheelchair so ATM I use a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit, but I have to admit that your channel is making me want to try a Discovery 3 or 4 ... although I'm sure that would mean I had finally lost my marbles ... all the best to you both and keep on keeping on :)
Just had my full English breakfast and now watched the video with another coffee , very nice work C & V as always a good laugh and learn on Sunday. Have a good one ...see you next week
Ha ha! My German friend Manfred will be so pleased that used the word “Catastrophe”. Thank you Vera! As you mentioned, Christian, electronic Handbrake failure is more common on Manual LR’s , because most of us that have the Automatic versions use the ‘P’ to act as our handbrake. The problem being that when it does go wrong, often due to not enough use, everything is often very seized and difficult to undo to repair. I think it is probably best to at least use the handbook occasionally. Why somebody like Powerful UK has not come up with an alternative proper lever operated Handbrake system, I don’t know. A similar system is used on the New Holland ‘T’ series tractors, which automatically applies itself whenever the tractor is placed in neutral. When it goes wrong, which it surely will, it is a real pain. Fortunately for me, my one is too old to have that system. I’m in no hurry to change it for the younger version!
I suspect that the advent of electric emergency brakes was somewhat for legal reasons. If applied at speed, the normal ABS system uses them to gradually brake the car, versus allowing people to lock up the rear wheels to perform "bootlegger turns" etc. They usually engage when parking, also act as hill-holder clutches.
I was amazed at how many miles you have covered since you did this last time. Treating your D3 or Land Rover like a classic car is exactly the way to maintain these vehicles. Regular tinkering and fettling will give it best chance of not letting you down. They can be complicated beasts but so rewarding when they are behaving and as you said Vera, such a good looking vehicle especially since it is 18 years old but still looks fresh 👍🏻😁 on the cable ends where you use your plumbing pliers to removed them from the backplate I alwasy smear a bit of silicone on there to stop the water trickling in.
wait for the next video on my Disco. It is even more obvious that these old Land Rovers have to be treated like a classic whose parts are difficult to optain. 😅👍🙋♀️
Daumen hoch
Wow! As usual, so impressed... ...by you two, as opposed to LR parts/design! It's a shame that such a small part caused such a long repair. I hope that LR corporate watch your videos and take note. Already looking forward to next week. Keep up the good work!
Great and a brilliant job! Very rewarding when you improve on something and get those cogs well greased Concern over the cable ends where they meet the brakes - water ingress as pointed out by Vera, as you've done just pack with waterproof grease, I get through tons of it on machinery. One comment, as I've mentioned before, get the small rigid mud flap spats that stop all that spray up onto the outside of the wheel arch! My OCD kicking in.... bloody desktop mechanics! Maintenance on these vehicles is not for the faint hearted, and the facilities and amount of kit you have is better than most garages - they would just say replace, and another 5K please!
Hey guys another thrilling episode of LR3 maintenance. My 05 is due its 120,000 mile timing belt change and everything that goes with that, incl the oil pump of course, along with an a/c repair. I'm going to disagree just a little with Vera, omg, I don't personally think the Discovery is difficult to maintain, there is just a large amount to maintain and pretty regularly too.! Thanks for the brilliant videos, they really make my Sunday x
😅👍Wait for the next video. Most of what we say, especially I, is not necessarily directed to the able DIY mechanic. They don't watch us normally since they don't need any help. But for the beginner DIY Land Rover mechanic, it is a difficult. 😃👌🙋♀️Vera
Iv'e had my 2004 discovery 3 since 2016 and feel very lucky to have a very reasonably priced mechanic who knows these cars inside out so i dont have to do these repairs myself .
Guten Sonntagmorgen Vera & Christian 😊 Just got a brew so I can watch another LR time fixing video before I go to work 🤣 Excellent 👌🏼 Nice seeing the Queen sunbathing while you both wrestle with Vera’s handbrake actuator 🤩 Loved it especially the spring cap fix sweet 👍🏻 Have a great week so until next week see ya 👋🏻 And as always hug 🤗 and kisses for Vera xxxx
YYYeeeaahh sunday repair time?? Cristian, why do you still fight Vera, you NEED to listen to what she tells you, because "Vera knows her sh-t" ! Thanks again for the entertainment!
Thank you😅💪👍🙏 Got into argument yesterday because he ordered a wrench we already had, and he did not believe me.😂But I am so happy that we only have to argue about stuff like that, or when he sits in the passenger seat. I do feel very priviledged to be married to Christian. 🙋♀️
Great video, and I agree on your comments about wishing to have one. They are great! However I am sure a lot of people don't realise the effort you have to put in to keep 'em going.
Well done guy's, another great job. Great Sunday morning viewing - you do all the work so I don't have to!?! 😂 Always count down to Vera's first mention of food. 🥪🍲👍🏼
Watching your excellent videos confirms that the car for me is my 1962 Dodge Dart with enough room to sleep in the engine bay and no fiddley parts I'd never get my hands around. Thanks for another great one!
When Christian fitted the spare wheel to the car, I was hoping that he was going to say “We need more air“ like Arnie in the movie Total Recall. Aah well, maybe next time😂
May I say I think your videos are bloody marvellous, you clearly know what you are doing, very informative and comical too. I once owned 4 landys, series 2, discovery series 1, freelander series 1 and a 1988 county 110, absolutely great vehicles especially the 1964 series 2, so simple and the 110 county why did land rovers have to spoil them with complicated electronics 🙄🙄keep up the great videos..
Sunday wouldn’t be the same without my Christian and Vera fix. Another good job, but surely the D3 needs a good underbelly wash after all your hard work last year 🤣
Thank you very much for the good video! With copper grease / paste there is now only criticism on many channels, although I have not had any bad experiences. It would be interesting to briefly report on such topics!
I used bathroom silicone on mine as black mastick is a ' c u next Tuesday' to get off . 😂 Never had a problem. Great fix again Christian. I've got a plug in 230v ' Ooga Dooga ' , it's awesome and quieter 😊
I owned a new Discovery 3 manual from 2005 - 2008 and the only thing that failed during the three year warranty period was the electric parking brake. I remember the incident well because my wife was stranded in her school car park and the vehicle had to be recovered. Our UK LR dealer spent over a week fixing it. Our previous three Discos had mechanical parking brakes and I don't recall a problem with any of them.
I hate working on drum brake type parking brake. Since it uses servo effect, to make it "zero touch" brake pad to drum while able to achieve maximum bite at maximum cable pull is impossible. Always the new brake pad is actually mild touching the drum. Its easy to hear, while car jack up all 4 wheels and engage 1st gear. It hurts to hear and see that dark side of a drum brake design. However, I enjoy seeing Vera n Chris doing the job, its fun to watch as always.😊
I really enjoy him working on those drum brakes. It brings back a lot of memories of my families wheel and brake shop when I was a kid watching my father and grandfather work on them.
Mental note.. if the handbrake fails take it to a garage. I'll stick to adjusting only. Shame LR couldn't come up with a simpler design. The old style (defender, d1, d2) handbrake on back of centre diff are easier to work on but needed regular adjustment to stay effective. An electric disc version of that could have been very good. There's a company that does disc conversion for that old defender handbrake.
Another great video. This would have come in handy about 10 years ago😀. Although I used to enjoy fixing these little problems. The pay off is in the driving experience, especially now with the state of the roads. Our son now has the pleasure of ownership - for how long I am not sure.
😅👍 I let Philipp drive my Discovery 3 when we practice driving on our one legal section of dirt road (but🤫) . He loves it and I cannot wait for him to take it onto BMX trips. 🙋♀️
I have a late 2008 Discovery with the later spare wheel bracket. By accident I found that if you drop the back part of the exhaust system you can access the module quite a bit easier!
Land Rover looks to me a nice car, when you are a desktop mechanic hihi. The only think I'm missing in your video's os showing your Snap-on toolbox and makes thinks new and or bride and shinny no because it is needed but because the have no idea what they doing hahaha, like other video's. My experiences with english cars is ways back in the century but it is not changed. Really nice video, thx.
Thank you for mentioning and pointing out these additional pins on the struts of your post lifter. I know how it sounds and how you feel, when the cars frame slips on the rubber pads. Please don't ask, how I know.😊
😅💪👍 Sometimes, whey you read through the comments, you actually see real time maintenance experiences from Toyota drivers, and I mean not the Corolla type Toyotas. 🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian I had to go to my friends Toyota Land Cruiser that had broken down and jump it from my RRS. I then advised him to sort his auxiliary belt out as it was loose and despite him having 2 batteries they both still needed an alternator to charge 🤣 Sadly after that my belt tensioner decided to have a fit so I am changing the belt, tensioner and alternator pulley this weekend on Mine such is LR life.
Hello Lovely people. Yes we have given up on Discos..much to our annoyance. However i will keep watching you videos for as long as you can bear to make them. Thank you from Downunder and if ever you make it down here we would love to have you come and stay for a few days.. Kind regards. Rob.

Don't do it until she agrees to the lathe installed in the kitchen 🤣

Mental note.. if the handbrake fails take it to a garage. I'll stick to adjusting only. Shame LR couldn't come up with a simpler design. The old style (defender, d1, d2) handbrake on back of centre diff are easier to work on but needed regular adjustment to stay effective. An electric disc version of that could have been very good. There's a company that does disc conversion for that old defender handbrake.
Don't worry, other car manufacturers have also EPBs installed, not just Land Rover. And from the comments we get, they fail just the same. 👍🙋♀️
Amazing work again Christian, i wish you were my neighbour haha.
Makes me love my 04 D2 even more.....
Great video! Greatings from South Africa.
I see that Vera put a bit of video in for the Australians 🙂
Your videos has been very helpful to me❤❤ keep up the good work
I have a late 2008 Discovery with the later spare wheel bracket.
All that work and no coffee? You guys are absolutely insane! Haha
Keep up the great work.
Excellent video thank you.
Wonderful as usual
Thank you for mentioning and pointing out these additional pins on the struts of your post lifter. I know how it sounds and how you feel, when the cars frame slips on the rubber pads. Please don't ask, how I know.😊
Fantastic team
The great thing about a Land Rover is that you get to redo old content and show new ways to improve things, can't do that with a Toyota!
Oh stop being a bore. This is maintenance. Don’t tell me Toyotas don’t need maintenance
@@hughmarcus1 Had a sense of humour bypass have we?
Fantastic information and upgrade 😊
Favourite thing to watch on a Sunday morning. Don’t even own a landrover!
Thanks for watching.
