  • In today's live stream, Keeper Jake and Keeper Zac take us through what they do when we milk venomous snakes! The Australian Reptile Park is the only place in Australia that milks venomous terrestrial snakes for their venom to make into antivenom. Venom extraction is an important part of what we do at the Australian Reptile Park as the program saves 300 lives a year!
    Tune in on our Facebook and Instagram pages at 2pm to watch LIVE and ask our keepers questions:

    Noticed Jake is Southpaw,made me wonder which hand I'd use as I am ambidextrous, and must invent a SOP for everything I do and wouldn't want to learn the hard way.lol..Think I'd be lefty harvesting.I did not realize they single milked each fang..Wow..That is some intricate process..Salute Zack and Jake..

      I reckon you'd be the only one that can truly can judge the dexterity or control that you have in either hand. I'm hopeless at doing so many things left handed. Occasionally as a carpenter I have to adapt, due to the situation I get into . Especially in convined spaces. I admire your ability to use both hands to coordinate to do anything . Can I ask, do you find your comfortable doing most tasks roughly equal. For example, throwing a ball. I can't throw a ball for peanuts,left handed 😅

    Why not surgically implant tubes running from venom glands out the snake head to drain venom safe without handling the snake

    • @matthewcullen1298
      @matthewcullen1298 Рік тому

      How would the snake eat?,where would it drain to?how would you set it so that you didn't have to handle the snake.

    • @Gio-yo8nt
      @Gio-yo8nt Рік тому

      @@matthewcullen1298 the snake will eat like they normally eat. The venom will drain in the tube outside his body and all you gotta do is drain it every day.Then you can defang the snake and block the venom sites in mouth to make them safe to have and handle.

      1.Inland Taipan 2.Eastern Brown 3.Central Ranges Taipan 4.Coastal Taipan 5.Tiger snake 🐍 Australia 🇦🇺 has the snakes with the most toxic venom in the world 🌎

    • @Cadec247
      @Cadec247 3 місяці тому

      No, but it is probably the most dangerous. Extremely long, fast, highly toxic venom with long fangs and large venom yield, as well as very aggressive and willing to bite. The Australian equivalent to the black mamba is often considered to be the coastal taipan. They’re very similar and extremely dangerous snakes.
