whatever country or wherever you go,if u are not familiar with the food, please ask the counter(when u pay)or that locals how to eat or to start with...like this cendol,if u just eat the toppings first without mixing,u basically just eat and taste the ice cream and mango.,even noodles,rice...u need to well mixed before eating, don't just eat whatever on top first.....
Shout out to this cendol stall as it's very well organised. Yeah, cendol is a common dessert which can be found all over Malaysia. The one you both have is the modern version with all kind of stuff. I still prefer the regular one...only cendol, some red beans, shaved ice, coconut milk and palm sugar. There are lots of famous cendol stalls in Melaka. To eat this dessert, one has to stir and mix whatever is inside the bowl 😀🤓 Fun video, enjoyed watching. Thanks guys !!!
I guess Michael will like the original chendol because it has coconut milk and palm sugar, will taste sweet and slightly savoury. Mango has strong and sweet flavour to masks other flavours. The caramel taste Gigi mentioned is gula Melaka (palm sugar or coconut sugar), which is unique in Malaysia especially in Melaka. You can get chedol everywhere in Malaysia, but Melaka has "better" chendol because of the unique palm sugar. Chendol in Penang is also quite famous.
Congratulation! You've got it right tasting the different food, beverage and dessert. I can see you didn't mix the cendol but taste the individual items in it. If you mix it, you'll get only one taste one intensity from it but when you pick the different condiments and ingredients, you'll get a whole lot of different experience. You can also mix a combination of whatever in it with different intensity (eg. gula melaka/ice/green jelly/etc) then you will finally hit the taste you may be looking for. Then you need to go back to have another one and request the item that you want more (eg. gula melaka) so that you finally understand why this particular cendol (or any Malaysian food) is so famous. Of course you can mix it all up after you experiment and familiarize with it. This is the way to experience Malaysian food for the first time. Eg. Nasi lemak, you don't mix it up before you eat it. You taste a bit of the sambal to test the intensity of the spiciness (most nasi lemaks have different level of spiciness), then you taste the anchovy for it saltiness, the rice for the original fragrant of coconut & pandan. Finally you start making combination of the condiments on the plate differently to experience it. It is like getting to know every different race and culture individually here in Malaysia. Experience the culture through the food. Warning : you may not like the individual condiment/ingredient in the food when you taste it at the beginning, but when you finally get the combination right, that's when it hits you. That's the reason why every condiment and ingredient make sense in the dish. This is why Malaysian have so many ethnic groups and live harmoniuosly. Cheers!
I learned it from spore (in reserving public table) 🤣🤣🤣 Love u both…Mike as always honest and the adventurous one Always polite and friendly 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Yep chendol came a long way…originally it’s only grated ice, coconut milk, cendol (the small green wiggy wiggy according to Mike 😆) and palm sugar.
Cendol is actually the green pandan jelly. Mix with palm sugar and coconut milk and red beans. Add shaved ice. Try the original. You can add mango if you like.
ais batu campur atau cendol require u to mixed all stirr them . wait till the shaved ice melting. it will taste even better.. and later you must try the normal cendol anywhere in malaysia but KL u can find too, usually there are lorry selling cendol.. but if u guys to penang .cendol is epic there.. when u go ss2 KL durian.. must try durian musang king or black thorn 1st before try other type..
Eating cendol is about mixing the shaved ice with the greenish jelly thing, coconut milk, beans and palm sugar. You are actually having cendol topped with ice cream and mango. Every state have cendol. The basic cendol consist of the green jelly thing, beans, coconut milk and palm sugar.
That particular "popular" cendol shop was 4 years in Melaka but Cendol has been popular in Malaysia for centuries with the initial cendol type comes with its signature "Gula Melaka" (the dark thick sweet syrup - palm sugar) and the green soft jelly in shaved ice. Through the years many things were added in like red beans, fruits and so on. The important way of eating it is actually to completely mix up the dark palm sugar with other contents so that it won't stay at the bottom. That way you'll get all kinds of flavors when you eat it.
Hi Guys the dessert is called Chendol n its not ice cream. There is a plain one but the one you had with ice cream n mango. You find the plain one with the green jelly n coconut n brown sugar( caramel ) mixed n drink. You find different kinds of Chendol , in Singapore, Malakal, Kl n very famous in Penang.
Hi, the best Cendol is opposite the clocktower. Cendol has no ice cream, fruits nuts etc. It contains shaved ice, the green noodles and coconut milk and palm sugar. Go try it there you can get two bowls one for GIGI and one for MICHEAL and change to spare.
Looks like you are spending a lot of time at jonker walk and nearby streets. Places like this tends to be more expensive for tourists. Venture out and try the local food which are much cheaper. Cendol? Try it at taman malim jaya beside olive bakery. Original nyonya cendol and it cost only 5rm.
Hi.. Big tips today to learn.. Dont get confuse.. What is Cendol actually?.. The green jelly thing is actually Cendol.. Traditional Malay dessert which we ate Cendol with Coconut milk, palm sugar and shaved ice.. Thank you 😄😄😄
Welcome to Malaysia.. Enjoy all the food! But cendol you have to try the original one without the corn, durian and mango. After you have eaten the original... Try the tapai pulut cendol, because it doesn't disrupt the original taste of the cendol.. But enhance it more. Have fun in Malaysia 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾❤️❤️❤️
Nice! But you should also try the original "Tjendol Dawet", the first record of its recipe goes back to 1866. It's kinda far from the store, but it's really worthed
My girlfriend & I, went on one of our first trips to Melaka & had chendol along the river. 10 years on, we are married with 2 little girls. Hopefully we get to visit Melaka as a family soon. When I visited Melaka as a young boy 30 odd years ago, that river was heavily polluted & stank to the high heavens. Amazing how they’ve cleaned it up. Enjoy your stay guys.
I love Melaka city. It is unique and beautiful. Furthermore, Melaka city is not very far awayfrom Kuala Lumpur city. I want to buy a bungalow in Melaka city. I also love varieties of cendol. Cendol heals the hot weather.
You guys should try the original cendol it’s better then that fancy cendol , if guys buy the original cendol you will get grated ice, red sugar, pandan gel, coconut milk and red beans
I dont think people from outside Malcca came just to try the cendol..for asam pedas or ikan bakar maybe..eventually Malacca is a touristy state for its history buildings, beaches & foods..i prefer cendol at mamak's foodtruck..with rojak/pasembor of course..match in heaven
It probably is but the cendol in this Malay foodcourt may be given rave reviews from its huge customer base. I have not tried it but it seems to have too many sweet stuff added, it is no longer a cendol. Melaka Nyonya cendol is famous for its use of fresh coconut milk, cendol and gula Melaka, just like its food, is more subtle without using too much sugar and overpowering ingredients (durian being an exception) .
@@alexlee2765 yes agree. I wish this vendor all the best in his/her business, its probably cendol with a modern touch but I hope tourists will explore the authentic nyonya cendol too.
Michael, the 'chop' culture with ur stuff doesnt work here. The worker might come and throw away ur stuff as they might mistaken it for thrash.. here we 'chop' with human. Someone gotta sit there to indicate the table is taken. LOL.
Yeah the reserve culture only works in Singapore. Its quite dangerous to put your belonging unattended in Malaysia as somebody might stole it. In Singapore, there are cctv everywhere.
Yeah this is the best Chendol in Malaysia no contest but with a caveat that it's not the most traditional Chendol. Most Chendol is just cheap toppings thrown together. The green jelly is what makes the Chendol
Cendol is an iced sweet dessert that contains droplets of green rice flour jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar syrup. It is commonly found in Southeast Asia and is popular in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar.

Does is taste like Faluda
Yes! But a bit sweeter with a caramel flavour, and the green thing (the cendol) becomes hard if it is in contact with ice
You don't mention the price of food.😔
Cendol is an iced sweet dessert that contains droplets of green rice flour jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar syrup. It is commonly found in Southeast Asia and is popular in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and Myanmar.
It's palm sugar not caramel
I can't call that cendol. Too fancy 🤣. I don't even like sweet corn in my cendol but redbeans are ok. Pulut optional.
Totally agree with all points
"Did you try the mango?" "I did taste like a mango" =. =' XD XD
Better you find original cendol..this modern type
Just stir everything and let the ice melt a bit then only eat would’ve been much better to eat
