5:02 "Why would they accidentally let you go into a bubble if you're just going to lose a life?" You don't lose a life if everyone goes into a bubble. You can see this in the video clip used. I've used this before in my playthrough to exit to the map without losing a life. I also didn't find that hitting the A button accidentally was a problem, but that's probably because I keep my thumb in the center of the D-pad and tilt to move, like a joystick.
4:54 That literally happened when my family and I played the game. We were inches away from the flagpole in 9-7, and my father’s hand slipped and we were all in a bubble. We had been playing that level for hours...
Bruh this is literally the game of my childhood, the most treasured memory I have of this game is stealing my sisters' turns in Power-Up Panels by ground-pounding on them, man those were the days.
I remember playing with my cousins but they were terrible at the game, so they spent most of the time on bubbles, that aspect of the game is not fun the fact that I could not speedrun because other people couldn't keep with my pace.
One of my favorite Christmas presents yet. I have so many fond memories of playing this game with my dad and totally getting carried by his skill! I looked up everything I could about this game when I was younger so I could beat it, and when I eventually did I felt amazing. Thank you for this physical concentration of childlike wonder, Nintendo! And amazing video, by the way!
You know what the game title also contains? the words "Super Mario Bros" witch is a game about getting to the end of a level, Nintendo named it "Super Mario Bros" because it's the 2D platformer Super Mario Bros, The reason other Mario games like Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Sunshine don't have the word "Bros" in there is because it's not the 2D platformer we all know and love, it's something that isn't that. And the word "New" is in all the new Super Mario Bros games because it signifies that it's new but still stands true to the "Super Mario Bros" staple from the first game.
Played this game as a kid, so have a lot of nostalgia with it, and to this day I still didn't realise how much was reused. Completely agree with you, but I think the game has a lot more pros than cons, the best nsmb in my opinion, it was at a point where it improved on almost everything in the ds version, and wasn't as drained or uninspired (The coin gimmick in nsmb2) as the rest of the games. The motion controls also work really well in this game in my opinion, only to be thirded by the two galaxy games.
I respect your opinion, but I feel differently, maybe its because I have a lot of nostalgia for the game, but it did so much right for its time. It was the first 2d Mario on a home console in almost if not a decade, a stunning achievement, granted the all new multiplayer feature was a bit on the annoying side, but when was it not going to be? The wii version did so much to set itself apart from the ds version, doing its best under 'the same graphics'. All the ds had was a cool battle mode (which they barely if at all advertised), a return to 2d, some small original bosses, and a big boi mushroom. Sure the wii had a lacking battle mode, but it was a return to 2d on consoles, the koopalings were cool for the time, as we hadn't seen them for years upon years, but they only get the backlash they do today because they were reused so much. The graphics were amazing for the time, I mean you cant go through a video on nsmbu without comparing the 'hd' graphics to the wii's. The ds version was the formula, the wii version perfected the formula, much like the nes and snes consoles. The 3ds version is the virual boy that gives everyone a headache. And the wii u one was like the console it was on, underwhelming
@@bluefalcon3629 I completely agree. I think if you get caught up in the fact that a lot of stuff is reused from the DS game, you dont appreciate how the game improved on a lot of things. I think a lot of it comes down to which one you played first
Also let's not forget the fact that this game had hint videos from the devs in Peach's Castle that you could watch with the star coins that you obtained throughout the game. They not only helped me uncover every last secret within the game, but they were also what inspired me to be better at playing video games in general.
When you were mentioning the creatively designed levels I was hoping you were gonna mention that one in world 5 where you hop across those green sky whale things.
bruh i started this game back in 2010 and i was 5 years old or something, i played it with my sister and it was SO HARD for us, i remember trying to beat the mid-boss of desert world and it took us all day, we, somehow, managed to get to the final boss... i've beaten it only 2 months ago and didn't even bother trying the special world.
I think you made a good choice by choosing not to do the Special World. 9-7 is the hardest level in the game, especially if you’re playing by yourself and trying to get all of the Star Coins. It took me hours to beat.
You don't lose a life when you fail a level by going into a bubble, that's still dumb game design though because you can abuse it and not die from falling in pits by going into a bubble before you die. Loved the video, can't wait for the rest of the series!
They should have programmed it so that the bubble move is disabled if there is only one remaining player not in a bubble. It just seems like they didn't put very much thought into that mechanic.
...moments when me, or a friend accidentally bubbled are some of my favorite memories from back then. Edit: I like those three rotating circles, because you can fly over them with sprint jumps. Makes for a fun ending to the level Edit #2: 17:16 GIT GUD, M8
For me, it's an awesome game because of multiplayer but also the introduction of fake walls and of controls with spin jumps, flutter jumps and ESPECIALLY the mid-air spins and the propeller suit. I LOVE the controls!
"Bramballs" to be specific, but yes they have a name. In fact, if Silokhawk even fact-checked, this game introduced the most new enemies in the whole series. It's not just "bigger versions of old enemies". Liar.
Penguin suit abilities: Throw ice balls, belly slide, you don't slip on ice, you can stay in the surface on water if you maintain full speed like the Mini Mushroom and fast swimming like the Frog Suit. Ice Flower abilities: Throws ice balls Seems legit...
I agree that I’ve grown to appreciate the game over time, it was the first Mario game I ever played and wasn’t really into it but I really started to like it over the years
12:18 Don't wanna anger you, but Tropical Freeze has a dark underwater level that's actually good. In fact, it's not only the best water level in that game, but one of the best levels in that game, period.
Tropical freeze has much better swimming controls than any of the mario's, plus in tropical freeze darkness isn't really a tool to hide enemies and stuff from you, it's simply a visual effect with minimal gameplay effects.
16:21 Yes, the Penguin Suit is indeed superior to the Ice Flower in almost every way. However, it makes a huge amount of sense why Nintendo included both of these. Here's why. 1. The Penguin Suit is MUCH more rarer, only appearing in Worlds 3/4 and World 9-5. The Ice Flower is common around every world. 2. The Ice Flower is practically necessary for every castle except World 3's. 3. Plus, the Penguin Suit is only utilized for certain gimmicks that are almost redundant to other worlds. In World 3, you have slippery ice, so obviously the Penguin Suit works. In World 4, there's water, so yeah. But in other areas like World 1 or 5, it's not even needed. 4. Sliding on the ground as opposed to ice or water is horrendous and abysmal with the Penguin Suit, and you don't gain much distance.
yea lol i think the penguin suit was implemented really well. it's honestly one of my favorite power ups ever, and it being rare made it feel special whenever you got it. I mean it did it better than the tanooki suit in SMB3 imo. In that game the tanooki suit was pretty rare compared to the regular raccoon leaf, but it didn't do enough for it to feel all that special it rlly only allowed you to turn into a statue, which was fairly situational. The penguin suit on the other hand feels upgraded enough to feel special (also thanks to it looking completely different), while also keeping the ice flower useful due to the penguin suit being far far rarer
Yoshi should really at least have appeared in some more levels. Some of those 4-5 levels he appears in are in secret levels (like that one in World 7) and in slightly hidden blocks in normal levels (World 3-2 I think).
There really isn’t that much reused music in the game. And at least the re used music is changed intrumentally. Also world 3, 7, 6, and 8 were the best worlds. The other ones. Take them or leave them. And yes. I fully agree that this is the best nsmb game
NSMB2 is when the series definitely fell... and it fell hard. Nothing is new. ALL music tracks are copied from Wii, reused boss fight. Remember the Rancor Fight in Mario World? Well, they reuse that boss fight *8 TIMES*. I *HATED* the game. Yes, hate is a strong word but Im not over exaggerating. I HATE it.
@@Ewan-xw3er i get your point, but personally i think that the whole game is as bland as the soundtrack, not an awful game but MAN is this game safe and old
I honestly think nsmb2 is a pretty solid game. Yes, the game played it very safe and reused elements from Wii and ds, but it is still a very fun time. The game itself feels a lot like Wii, and even has the multiplayer, which I prefer more in 2 than Wii. The coin rush dlc is fantastic, and has so much NEW in it, as well as fan service. Overall, a very solid time.
I’m not sure if you’d be interested in this, but have you ever heard of Newer Super Mario Bros Wii? It’s a modded version of NSMB Wii with 100+ brand new levels, solving many of your issues with the game, with levels having new and creative ideas and not being dull and boring - it could make an interesting appendix to your series!
They brought back the hammer suit, made new enemies or brought enemies into 2d for the first time. (like... A lot of them). They take you to space. *Space* and give you space phisics. The whole world is connected THEY BRING BACK THE ANGRY SUN. AND IT ACTUALLY LOOKS ANGRY, instead of super Mario maker 2's incredibly passive sun.
@@ryanamburgy2791 I see you also watch the Mayro. But in all seriousness, I heard about Newer before I started watching him, and just got to playing it amd it's FANTASTIC - so much better than the original - the level design is so creative - Freezeflame World, Japanese Garden world, an autumn world, its so cool and I wish these guys would design an actual mario game
Ryan Amburgy I first saw it when I was googling some NSMBWii walkthroughs and some other let’s play of Newer popped up. Then I was looking for things to download on my modded Wii and Newer was always highly recommended
You know what's ironic? In newer Super Mario games we tend to complain about how much they love to reuse old content but when it comes to Super Mario Maker 2, it's a game we wish they'd reuse as much as possible!
@@carlosrod100 Precisely, you'd think that with how much they reuse in the New Super Mario Games, they'd be going crazy with Super Mario Maker but yet there's still a bunch of content missing.
2:56 Actually, I'm pretty sure most of the music in NSMBWii was brand new, only a few of them were NSMBDS remixes. It's the sequels on 3DS and Wii U that really began to reuse music.
never mind actually im dumb. i thought it was entirely original but i forgot about themes like "Walking the Plains" and "Mushroom Waltz". but still, im glad they added these two tracks to NSMBW, i don't think the game would be the same without them. however, i still think there's more than enough original music in NSMBW to call the argument nitpicky.
2:37 NSMBW was actually my first Mario game and was my introduction to Mario and pretty much video games in general, I used to play it with my friend, I lost the Wii at some point and I spent a period of time learning about pretty much everything about the game. Strategies like ground pounds being useful to cancel ice physics. Trivia like the Prima guide mixing up Larry and Iggy's names. Easter eggs, oh god, easter eggs--to this day, if you tell me something I didn't know about NSMBW, being level design or whatever, I will probably light up. Regardless, I've went to the mariowiki got knowledge of pretty much the whole series and (but not the Donkey Kong series for some reason even to this day). I memorized the names of the enemies and liked how this game re-introduced, redisigned, and/or repurposed some stuff that been dead since 3, like Spiny Cheep Cheeps, Parabeetles, Deep Cheeps, Hammer Bros. courses as enemy courses Eep Cheeps; Eep Cheeps originally being an unused skin. Similarly to how NSMBU reintruduced a lot of stuff from World like Bony Beetle and Sumo Bros (even having a boss Sumo Bro!). In fact, one thing I'll say SMB3 had was a TON of secrets and a lot of enemies that never appeared again. With a chance to maybe some original bosses, maybe at least one new world, maybe some returning long forgotten enemies, or least some interesting new ones or seeing what the Koopalings are going try in their boss fights this time if your going to stick with them; I couldn't wait for a (New) New Super Bros. game now that I thought I was all caught up. And I waited. Eventually, a New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe was announced and I perked up. We all know how that ended. Nowadays, I know how people feel about these games. It's more than clear at this point that New Super Mario Bros. games are most likely dead in the water, but this also probably takes out the 2D Mario platformer genre entirely. This is a series with over 200 games and only like 12 of them are 2D platformers. So with the NSMB series dead, it's hard to know for sure when we'll ever see a new (no, Super Mario Run does not count). Though, I really just don't agree that these games are "easy". I remember even to this day having problems with some of the stages. Playing Ludwig's Castle even now when I'm good at it, regardless of power-up or how long I kept it, it constantly gave me the feeling that I could screw up at any moment and subsequently die even when not going for Star Coins (where dying resets your non-checkpointed progress), and there's just some points where it's easy to just screw up and get hit, IDK maybe that's just me. Back in 201(8/9), I got NSMBW again got the same friend with and beat the game and then got all the Star Coins, I still look back on that memory. Though NSMB is dead, it can still make memories even in 2069 (lol). They reused what we already had enemies, themes, gimmicks, objects and did different things with them, the doing DIFFERENT things with them in a way it doesn't feel rehashed they should've leaned into more. Sorry for the nostalgia wave. 8:12 I mean, there was that ONE level... 10:27 The first underwater level of the water world "introduces" Bloopers to the player, the theme of the stage being that it's absolutely filled to the brim with them with them (someone counted 24 including the 2 Blooper Nannies) Bloopers being the theme of the stage, they also demonstrate their ability to hide behind objects, something this game introduced for them. On top of that Spiny Cheep Cheeps only appeared on their own in earlier stages, but at some point in this stage now your dealing with them and Bloopers at the same time, giving an unarmed player no choice but to try to swim as fast you can past them. And also having the first of 2 Cheep Chomp in the entire game. Not the most interesting stage in execution, but I wouldn't call it bland. 11:59 I mean TECHNICALLY Yoshi's in 6 levels, 1-3, 2-5, 3-2, 4-5, 6-4 and 7-6. The worlds kinda make sense because Yoshi probably wouldn't want to go in the dark world, and the dino not being in the jungle world specifically makes sense because...uh... 18:35 It's made even worst when you realized they KINDA tried to offset the two with the Ice Flower by making the Ice Flower's effects last longer, I think. It's been awhile.
NSMB Wii isn’t my first Mario game I played. I played the old-school, 8-bit Mario games. I also played online Mario games prior to the Wii game. I have a lot of nostalgia with this game. I played with my family and friends.
I first heard about that game the exact same way you did, the Nintendo Channel (and the channel concept in general) was amazing ! It's also how I discovered Galaxy 2 as well as Monster Hunter Tri ^^
I just wanna say... I know I’m some random guy in the comments you don’t know, but this game is my favorite in the whole series, quite possibly in my top 3 most favorite games of all time. It’s the literally definition of my childhood. I just have great memories of things like... My dad hosting a projector movie night on our front lawn with everyone from my neighborhood, and then coming inside after it was over and playing this thing to death despite it being midnight... Ahh, good times...
10:34 If you wait at the block behind you, it has a better chance of dropping a smaller one. I actually kinda like this because it causes the player to think.
@@KingOfAluminum how is it this one specifically? This is only the second game with new in the title I'm pretty sure that it got old with new Super Mario Bros 2
Although who is actually going to not collect a powerup? If the game gives you a powerup, most people will collect it even if they think it makes the level too easy. Yes, you can make the game harder by avoiding powerups, but most games can be made harder by playing a certain way, that doesn’t mean it is the actual difficulty of the game.
NSBWII was great, even if it reused a few things (something that even the old Mario games did and nobody cared), but NSMBU was sooo much better, in visual, level design, new things, de SMW themed map, EVERYTHING! I wanna see your review of it soon!
I've played NSMBW and I've seen NSMBU let's plays, NSMBU doesn't do that much better, everything is the same as with the Wii. I don't see the difference with resolution, I've used a big screen but I didn't use upscaling so it's the same resolution and I don't see so much à difference
@@gamermapper You need to play it to see the difference, NSMBU does feels different and is an improvement overall to the other NSMB games. Also it is really inspired from SMW
@@gamermapper NSMBU Style in SMM2 isnt really the same thing tbh, the real game have every asset in a higher quality, same thing to the BGs, and NSMBU have a lot more content compared to NSMBWII specially with the New World Map

If they had ended the "New" series with the DS & Wii versions ir would be a much less hated series. NSMB2 was where it went downhill, but Wii was the best in the series IMO, with DS a close second
16:57 You are absolutely right about that. Even when I went trick or treating, they made me dress like a damn glowstick with safety equipment over my costume?
14:28 nah, I prefer the Bowser fight in NSMBU. Also, I think it’s like this for the final level: Epic level, underwhelming boss. OR Underwhelming level, epic boss.

9.4/10 "This game really makes you feel like Spike" - IGN
Game title: * contains the word "new" *
Game content: * recycled *
Recycling is what Pokemon does
This game has things that you may have seen before, but never like this
Actually, NSMBWII is new, it's the second installment, anything after that IS recycled
Maybe that's what they meant by that title, it's the older games you know and love but updated "new".
New Platformer games revolving around MARIO! You know like the good ol' days! But now he's 3D!

Blue Falcon I feel like DS is the golden child and Wii is the “I’m close to golden but not just their” child

@@kyandoesanimation1248 its fine, same here, i probably prefer new soup wii because i have a lot of nostalgia for it :)
6:13 is fun, you're meant to sprint and jump across them. just because something seems "uninspired" doesn't necessarily make it bad.
I like how you included wii u footage and it’s barely even noticeable
Also let's not forget the fact that this game had hint videos from the devs in Peach's Castle that you could watch with the star coins that you obtained throughout the game. They not only helped me uncover every last secret within the game, but they were also what inspired me to be better at playing video games in general.
I miss playing this game when I was 6 with my dad and getting mad and laughing together. Love you dad ❤️.

bruh i started this game back in 2010 and i was 5 years old or something, i played it with my sister and it was SO HARD for us, i remember trying to beat the mid-boss of desert world and it took us all day, we, somehow, managed to get to the final boss... i've beaten it only 2 months ago and didn't even bother trying the special world.
I think you made a good choice by choosing not to do the Special World. 9-7 is the hardest level in the game, especially if you’re playing by yourself and trying to get all of the Star Coins. It took me hours to beat.
12:55 Waluigi's logo is there but not him? At least we can remember him.
11:39😂😂😂😂I laughed so hard, that was a funny reaction of leaving Yoshi beating the level!
I kinda like how Silokhawk didn't talk about the special world but did even put it up on screen multiple times
Skyfelt the game shits lives directly into your throat so often that it doesnt really matter
I didn't even know ds and Wii had the same music until you said. The different mixing some how completely skewed my memory.
Also that fart sound effect you use always makes me laugh and it's frustrating
I like how the wii is smiler to the ds
...moments when me, or a friend accidentally bubbled are some of my favorite memories from back then.
Edit: I like those three rotating circles, because you can fly over them with sprint jumps. Makes for a fun ending to the level
Edit #2: 17:16 GIT GUD, M8
For me, it's an awesome game because of multiplayer but also the introduction of fake walls and of controls with spin jumps, flutter jumps and ESPECIALLY the mid-air spins and the propeller suit. I LOVE the controls!
4:01 they’re called brambles, I think.
"Bramballs" to be specific, but yes they have a name. In fact, if Silokhawk even fact-checked, this game introduced the most new enemies in the whole series. It's not just "bigger versions of old enemies". Liar.
Me and my dad played this together. He's not a fan of video games, but he seemed to enjoy playing.
Even with all its flaws it was my first Mario and brings me back to playing with my brother and friends in like 4th grade so I love it
Penguin suit abilities: Throw ice balls, belly slide, you don't slip on ice, you can stay in the surface on water if you maintain full speed like the Mini Mushroom and fast swimming like the Frog Suit.
Ice Flower abilities: Throws ice balls
Seems legit...

I enjoyed NSMBWii, and getting the star coins was difficult. I loved the Penguin suit.
And yes. I fully agree that this is the best nsmb game
how did i not include world 5. world 6 is MID

same here, ain't nothing wrong with enjoying something. unless it's degeneracy... but this is Mario.
He spent so much time saying what he hated that it felt sudden when he said he liked it and would want to go back to it.
Listen to the nsmb2 soundtrack and you can tell that even mario had a dark age, or bland age as i like to call it
This is so typical, someone has a negative view on a game, fanboys begin to hate that aspect of the game
I HATE it.
@@MustacheOnMars9 it's ok to have an opinion, unless it is wrong
@@Ewan-xw3er i get your point, but personally i think that the whole game is as bland as the soundtrack, not an awful game but MAN is this game safe and old
I honestly think nsmb2 is a pretty solid game. Yes, the game played it very safe and reused elements from Wii and ds, but it is still a very fun time. The game itself feels a lot like Wii, and even has the multiplayer, which I prefer more in 2 than Wii. The coin rush dlc is fantastic, and has so much NEW in it, as well as fan service. Overall, a very solid time.
This guy needs more subs! The production quality is way above the sub mark! Amazing work Mr. Silok
Hello mayro watching boi

Honestly I love these types of videos. I'd love to see you tackle something like the Newer Super Mario Bros games or another game series
You know what's ironic? In newer Super Mario games we tend to complain about how much they love to reuse old content but when it comes to Super Mario Maker 2, it's a game we wish they'd reuse as much as possible!
Well, the more they reuse the more we have to work with
@@carlosrod100 Precisely, you'd think that with how much they reuse in the New Super Mario Games, they'd be going crazy with Super Mario Maker but yet there's still a bunch of content missing.

Actually, I'm pretty sure most of the music in NSMBWii was brand new, only a few of them were NSMBDS remixes. It's the sequels on 3DS and Wii U that really began to reuse music.
yea, this dude doesnt know what he's talking about
never mind actually im dumb. i thought it was entirely original but i forgot about themes like "Walking the Plains" and "Mushroom Waltz".
but still, im glad they added these two tracks to NSMBW, i don't think the game would be the same without them.
however, i still think there's more than enough original music in NSMBW to call the argument nitpicky.
This game was a big part of my childhood. I still love it.
my hands were small enough that i woudnt press a accidently
Bro I always used the A button as a strategy while playing with friends
Such a good game one of my fav games
This is a better, more heartfelt review than Silo's. Awesome job, man. ;)

I know I’m some random guy in the comments you don’t know, but this game is my favorite in the whole series, quite possibly in my top 3 most favorite games of all time. 16:47,kidding right?,is the most broker power up in the game.
The "new" in this games title didn't age well.
@@KingOfAluminum how is it this one specifically? This is only the second game with new in the title I'm pretty sure that it got old with new Super Mario Bros 2
I know right, basically all it means now is "not one of the classic games."
*the entire series
I'm pretty sure nothing with the name new in it ages well.
The “new” moniker just means that the series is an extension to the old 2D Mario games do it still makes sense
I like the power up at the start of the level. It's essentially a difficultly select for each stage.
