People like this dude spend a lot of time listening to people they deem smart talking about various topics and then end up projecting their intelligence onto themselves. This causes them to feel very sure in their positions and gives them a false idea of how smart they are. They don't challenge their opinions and when they're met with someone who does they have to feign incredulity or act dishonest because they feel their intelligence is threatened. Ya fr. I've been thinking about this a lot recently. I think this is a big reason why it's so hard to move someone from a position because they admire and trust the person they acquired that position from. To get them to say change their position would require them to deal with the cognitive dissonance of looking up to someone who they respect for their intellect, and acknowledging that their idol was wrong about whatever position they endorsed.
That also likely ties into why people have a hard time accepting X person committed sexual assault. If we like a person for certain qualities/roles they've played and it turns out "hey this person has done bad things" then it can be uncomfortable to acknowledge that.
It happens to all humans. Just a little bit more to reactionaries. People tend to stick to ideals more and more as time passes if their ideals are not challenged. If you do not come in contact with the other side it just blinds you more. he actually does!! the first time he's asked what is gender-dismorfia and transgender he answers that the first one is when you are mentally convinced of being of another sex (correct) and that transgender is dressing as another gender (not corresponding to your biological sex)(correct again!) This is one of the many examples where destiny successfully tricked you into thinking that he's right and his opponent is wrong, by simply reading definitions that contain completely different words from the ones used by the kid. What you don t see is that they pretty much mean the same thing, or that wouldn t make an honest person say that the kid has no clue of what he s talking about! In fact, if anything, it s possible that destiny didn t know the distinction (or that he didn t undertand the definitions the kid gave) and by looking at the definitions and not seeing a single word the kid used he just assumed (or more likely saw the opportunity of taking advantage of that) that the kid had no idea of what he was talking about without realizing that what the kid said meant pretty much the same thing as the definitions, arguably in a less accurate manner.

The problem with the kids definition is that it wasn’t even close to accurate. Having some of the right terms in a word salad doesn’t mean you accurately defined a term. The kid defined cross-dressing instead of transgender. Those are distinctly two different terms and you don’t get brownie points for having a vague idea that transgender has something to do with gender. The reason you can assume the kid had no idea is that he came up with his definitions based off context clues in the conversation that was meant to teach a 6 yr old what gender expression is using clothes as daily examples. It’s way too charitable to assume that he was close enough to what he should have said.

They don't challenge their opinions and when they're met with someone who does they have to feign incredulity or act dishonest because they feel their intelligence is threatened. Ya fr. I've been thinking about this a lot recently.
I think this is a big reason why it's so hard to move someone from a position because they admire and trust the person they acquired that position from. To get them to say change their position would require them to deal with the cognitive dissonance of looking up to someone who they respect for their intellect, and acknowledging that their idol was wrong about whatever position they endorsed.
That also likely ties into why people have a hard time accepting X person committed sexual assault. If we like a person for certain qualities/roles they've played and it turns out "hey this person has done bad things" then it can be uncomfortable to acknowledge that.
It happens to all humans. Just a little bit more to reactionaries.
People tend to stick to ideals more and more as time passes if their ideals are not challenged. If you do not come in contact with the other side it just blinds you more. This is why Richard Spencer supporters will go out of their way to make up stuff while the conversation takes place and claim that they are facts.
They make claims about biases and indoctrination by the "left" (which in reality is basically just actual centrist like destiny) while they are the most biased and blindfolded people on the political scene

he actually does!! the first time he's asked what is gender-dismorfia and transgender he answers that the first one is when you are mentally convinced of being of another sex (correct) and that transgender is dressing as another gender (not corresponding to your biological sex)(correct again!) This is one of the many examples where destiny successfully tricked you into thinking that he's right and his opponent is wrong, by simply reading definitions that contain completely different words from the ones used by the kid. What you don t see is that they pretty much mean the same thing, or that wouldn t make an honest person say that the kid has no clue of what he s talking about! In fact, if anything, it s possible that destiny didn t know the distinction (or that he didn t undertand the definitions the kid gave) and by looking at the definitions and not seeing a single word the kid used he just assumed (or more likely saw the opportunity of taking advantage of that) that the kid had no idea of what he was talking about without realizing that what the kid said meant pretty much the same thing as the definitions, arguably in a less accurate manner.

The problem with the kids definition is that it wasn’t even close to accurate. Having some of the right terms in a word salad doesn’t mean you accurately defined a term. Those are distinctly two different terms and you don’t get brownie points for having a vague idea that transgender has something to do with gender. The reason you can assume the kid had no idea is that he came up with his definitions based off context clues in the conversation that was meant to teach a 6 yr old what gender expression is using clothes as daily examples. It’s way too charitable to assume that he was close enough to what he should have said.

Honestly, the biggest take away, even if you don't agree with destiny, is his ability to debate. He's very good at starting from a place of questioning someone where they got their opinions from, then showing them some information they've probably never paid attention to, and walking them through that.
