A lot of people actually want leftist ideas economically but don't realize it because of leftover red scare rhetoric that exists and is still popular in the public psyche. But once you get them talking about what they would like to see in the economy, all of a sudden they start sounding pretty socialist.
JackgarPrime Probably because socialism is dose-dependent. Some socialist systems are beneficial and would improve our country. But that's a whole different paradigm than the people who think Socialism will work on a nationwide scale despite its horrendous 20th century death toll. We evolved from primates, not bees or ants or termites; so whenever Socialism has been tried on a large scale (as opposed to a small commune where everyone knows everyone) it ends up with dictators like Mao and Stalin, along with privileged Party kin like the Chavez/Maduro kids who flaunt their incomprehensible wealth on Insta while the majority of their country is starving.
zxy atiywariii “dose dependent socialism” cant exist, socialism is just the workers owning the means of production. no shit a planned economy didn’t work - it’s not going to work again either. you’re trying to make the argument that a planned economy would work even though it hasn’t worked in the past if its “dose dependent?” thats the most incredibly confused understanding of what socialism is i’ve seen yet. socialism is not when the government just goes around and does stuff.

1. There is zero evidence Trump is a billionaire. Trump sues people who estimate his net worth too low. Forbes confirmed that he defrauded his way onto the Forbes list. Gauging his actual net value is one of the many reasons people want to see his tax returns, and one of the reasons to hide them. 2. The "400 companies" figure comes from him leasing the Trump brand to other companies. The idea is that they benefit from the Trump brand recognition while Trump's family gets a stream of revenue and the ability to exaggerate the size of their empire. The only part of his business Trump _could_ have exerted real control over, was either his father's real estate, or anything new that he started himself. Trump relies on his lawyers to defend him in his avalanche of lawsuits, he uses accountants to exploit tax loopholes, he uses ghostwriters to write his books, etc. Trump subsists on a staff and managers running things for him. Similarly, there is little evidence that he actually contributed anything to the real estate part of his empire. When Trump actually tried his hand at starting his own businesses, the best he could do was ...make a CASINO unprofitable, and attempt to sell steaks at The Sharper Image.

The reason premiums increased for the ACA is because of regulatory circumvention. Specifically, dialysis providers have been getting ESRD patients to sign up for the ACA because the reimbursement rate is 3x higher compared to medicare/medicaid. The premiums increased because the risk pool changed due to the extremely sick patients who are supposed to be on medicare/medicaid.

It's not about taxing the middle class so working class people can afford healthcare, it's about taxing the wealthiest 1%, closing the carried interest loophole, ending corporate welfare. For example the Walton family alone gets about 6.2 billion dollars a year in government assistance benefits for their low wage employee's in the form of food stamps, subsidized housing and Medicaid.
Jordan G Why shouldn't there be limits? It is somewhat a slippery slope. What if we let automation take over service jobs? When does it go too far? Im 16 so maybe im retarded. Please educate me if im wrong.
But how many people are going to be able to actually reach those higher skills and studies? There are literal retards that can't learn certain things, or they just having a learning disability and they can't reach the level that is needed. Do we just put them on welfare, a care home or put them down? Last one was pretty hyberbolic, obviously, I couldn't really think of anything else. Not to try and make a perfectly equal society where everyone gets the same regardless of intelligence and qualifications, just I don't feel like those who can't learn the higher skills that would be required to get jobs should be either A) unemployed and having their lives payed for by those who reached those higher levels or B) left out of society. That was kind of a strawman, since I did say what you could be thinking- but it helps me get my idea across I think, and I don't mean to set you up with a certain argument to then debate that. Not too sure what to do with them if we didn't keep some form of job that was lower level for humans to do. Though their might be some jobs that automation just can't take from humans, seems unlikely though.
Will machines do that? For starters we see machines taking on more complex tasks in transport, medicine and financial advise. If anything jobs where robotics would be too expensive or harder to make like bots that can unload a truck at any given time and operate any machine to help unload wouldn't be built or would be delayed cause why do it when you have such a large cheap labor pool? I don't see humanity studying further when computers could compare, test and come to an answer faster and more efficiently. Plus once computers come to that point we would just have several competing computers tasked with either the same or different tasks and they could look at each other's work. See I think factories will return to the U.S. but not the way it was before. Instead less unskilled workers and nearly an extinct white collar workforce. Because again an engineer or accountant has way more pay and benefits than a factory worker. So when these "jobs" come back since the whole world would treat robot tech like everything else something of trade secrets and being the next best thing, cheap factories will be slapped together and they'll hire cheap workers and use programs for the rest of the work.

Here in 2021.. and wow I have so many mixed thoughts. I wonder where the past 4 years has taken this kid with his political identity and if he’s still an “avid” trump supporter.
D'aww. This 15 year old was doing a better job than your average Trumple until the 38 minute mark. "I don't think it's more expensive. I think it's less cheap." Bless him, must be getting tired.
His parents obviously love their kid so much. I would be ashamed if my kid had the opinion to not want to help those less fortunate than him. I would have a kid and raise them to make the world a better place, not be so coldhearted towards his fellow humans.
So 4 years later. He's now 19, 18 if his birthday is in December. Wonder if he's still as much of a Trumpist as back then or if he actually bothered to educate himself by now.
This boy is really open to new ideas, it really gives me hope for the future! the way he just gives in on arguments shows that he isnt delusional to everything.
He clearly has an opinion but like most at 15 couldn't be bothered to challenge his ideas or gain new knowledge. If his parents are paying basically out of pocket for their healthcare it means they probably make too much money to get any rebate. Living with my parents I never got any form of student aid for school or healthcare rebates from the ACA because they made like 100k+ each and I didn't even have a college fund. So to say his family is just making it and barely getting by comfortably and stuff just goes to show he doesn't have a clue. His parents may be completely financially illiterate themselves and throwing nearly all of their money away but I doubt it.
the kids argument for free speech basically amounts to this: If I had a picture of this 15 year old kid and I took a shit on the picture he somehow believes that equates to actually taking a shit on him. The flag and the picture are just symbols. They're not the actual thing. They're just representations of the thing.

Failure to admit that they're smitten with a guy who basically has infinite street cred with teenage boys because of the "le ownage" = check. Around 36:00 he literally just starts describing a Planned Economy. Like whats part of Communism. I know he's only 15, but an "avid" Trump supporting going full on Stalin is pretty much the funniest thing ever.

Good job somehow making me defend trump by putting out the weakest possible argument against him you could of possibly chosen
this dude I only watched up to there then I got bored

It's not about taxing the middle class so working class people can afford healthcare, it's about taxing the wealthiest 1%, closing the carried interest loophole, ending corporate welfare. "there should be limits on automation" wow
he's definitely 15
Jordan G
Why shouldn't there be limits? It is somewhat a slippery slope. What if we let automation take over service jobs? When does it go too far? Im 16 so maybe im retarded. Please educate me if im wrong.
"When does it go too far?" quote: ... Like never, thats the goals... to get rid of every unpleasent job.
The Great Shredman It never will. Automation will cease the need for human labor, and consequently allow us to focus on higher skills and studies.
This is America in a nutshell. Shockingly, most people's political opinions don't evolve much farther than this 15 year old's.

Living with my parents I never got any form of student aid for school or healthcare rebates from the ACA because they made like 100k+ each and I didn't even have a college fund. So to say his family is just making it and barely getting by comfortably and stuff just goes to show he doesn't have a clue. @@tasin7777 this is sort of true. i moved more from politics into philosophy, so im into marx and whitehead, but buddhism is still very cool. i wouldnt say im a buddhist or anything but my views are aligned closely with it
I love Destiny's passion for data. Thanks for having these fact based arguments man. Remember to try and lower your heart rate once in a while. This shit seems stressful.
I wouldn't write anyone off automatically due to their age, but on the subject of politics, when a 15 year old says " I think", it usually means " my dad thinks". Js
Lmao that shit is so real
This is it boys, the debate we’ve all been waiting for.
I stopped at 15 yo
"The flag is always gonna mean the United states, you can't amend the flag."
Yup, the flag and all 50 of its stars are timeless.
wonder what this kids point of view is these days 4 years on?
Surely a Soc Dem, we all are now
Respect to him for coming on the show. That takes guts. He will definitely hate watching this 5 years from now. Dangerous levels of Dunning-Kruger effect in this kid, but it happened to a lot of us at that age. 15 is the age where the world seems easy to understand and paint in broad strokes. Buying into the binary nature of the political spectrum = check. Failure to admit that they're smitten with a guy who basically has infinite street cred with teenage boys because of the "le ownage" = check.
This kid will likely flip flop on the political spectrum multiple times before settling into his true political views.
By the way, this kid should learn about Dye's model for public policy. It's very helpful in understanding how policy is born.
For a 15 year old, he is more articulate, more intelligent, and more humble than most of Destiny’s guests that want to argue.
The kid seems willing to learn and change his mind based on data and examples. Most guests essentially say “fuck your data, I’m right and your dumb”
props to the kid. 👍
He's just a victim of the youtube algorithm rabbit hole recommending him ben shapiro and steven crowder vids. I know because i was there too. I like to think that he has probably matured and has become a smart kid now. Also chat is so annoying too they're like old men and also 12 year olds making fun of a 15 year old for challenging destiny.
You can totally tell that this kid is just echoing the shit he hears from the people of influence in his life. I actually gotta credit the kid for actively listening and having an honest conversation! He’s light years beyond No Bullshit and Roaming Millennial in that regard.
