And in my opinion, it is more realistic for a space opera of a game. Even with FTL travel and communication, logistically, a Semiu-Nomadic culture for a space fairing civilization is more likely to survive and thrive over a centralized system.

I find that the Naabal being so influential in lore and so absent in the games is a bit... disappointing? Most of the games make the S'jet seem completely dominant, yet while highly influential the society's efforts are very much a group effort. I wish we could get another game like Cataclysm where it explores the Kushan/Hiigaran internal society and politics more (even if not the main focus).

It kinda makes sense that the Naabal don't have much overt exposure. They actually prefer doing things on the sidelines, as seen in the Night of the Broken Glass shown in the Expedition Guide of DoK.
There's so much thought out details put into the Kiith that I can see why Homeworld gets compared to Dune at times. Shoot, I wouldn't mind if a proper sequel set in Dune integrated Homeworld aesthetics for its space battles.
Im really looking forward to the Cataclysm story and how the Miners of the Somtaaw, became one of, if not the out right bravest of all the Kiithid, the Beast Slayers.
I'm 99% sure it's stated somewhere in the original Homeworld (or perhaps the sequel, I can't remember) that the Gaalsien all died in the fires of Kharak when the Taidan attacked. That they embraced it as the will of Sajuuk. As for the Siidim, I think it's far more likely that whilst the Captain was under orders, he would have been disavowed by his Kiith,. and without conclusive proof of their involvement, and given their good behaviour for the last few hundred years, would probably have been accepted by the other Kiith, even if it lead to distrust between them.
A handful survived. The mothership launch was planned to be sabotaged by the Gaalsien, the idea being to take over the main drives just shortly after being launched and then drive the entire ship into a crashing de-orbit to take out the northern cities from the sheer impact. The northern coalition and those in charge of the mothership launch suspected such a plan and moved the launch window, to throw Gaalsien's agents off. Which worked, resulting in the agents stowing aboard the mothership as sleeper agents with a small coterie having slipped into the cryo-beds. As for Siidim, their betrayal of the S'jet resulted in the entire kith being censured by the Diamed. Of the 6 million chosen for the cryo-beds, only 200 of them were Siidim, the rest of the kith perishing on Kharak or surviving as part of menial labour crews on the mothership. Their one act of treachery culled them down to a dying kith by the time of the Higaran landfall. Source: Revelation's historical brief, plus bits from the original historical brief. That's a subject that I would love to delve into as well but, sadly, it seems that for as much work they put into fleshing out the protagonist race, the devs chose to throw away the villains in each installment and replace them with new ones, without ever going into that much depth. Perhaps they do it out of fear of rendering the franchise stale and boring through repetition -because otherwise they have proven themselves more than capable of producing deep lore and world-building throughout the series.
At the end of the day, Gaalsien was right. Once the rest of Kiiths and Hiigarans left Kharak, Taaidan Empire glassed the entire planet for breaking the treaty.

Every single Kiith sure has at least one big moment of awesome. About 2:18... where'd you find this, assuming you didn't actually make this yourself, Mac's Lore? Before their wars of liberation and during the Heresy Wars, Kiith Naabal did a similar routine as the Kadeshi when it came to kiith-sa fleeing from the Siidim and Gaalsien, and the two aforementioned Kiith: "Join us or die." Majiir Paktu actually took part on the return trip to the north. Alas, he never survived it, but his followers did, and so history was made. Hope we get to see their varied roles again in HW3. Also, many thanks for the links to the archived extra lore and details of the series, particularly from Cataclysm/Emergence. Metawise, the Kiith system would allow for some homebrew stuff from fans aswell! Here's an example: Kiith Geelam, the kiith that holds the largest influence over all media related to the Hiigaran people, from soap operas, to news, to political speeches. Various creatives emerge from Kiith Geelam. This kiith was formed after the Kushan transitioned to become Hiigarans, born out of a desire to uplift the spirits of the Hiigarans who awoke from cryopods, only to discover that Kharak, and possibly their loved ones, perished in flames. Like-minded individuals from different kiiths came together to establish this new kiith, aiming to boost the morale of the Hiigaran people. Eventually, they evolved into the largest media group within the Hiigaran Empire, encompassing actors, musicians, poets, writers, and journalists. Multiple kiiths sought their advice in matters of outward projection, determining how they wished to be perceived by other kiiths and, more importantly, by the enemies of the Hiigaran Empire. God, Homeworld is so ripe with this kind of stuff it boggles the mind how it doesn't have the same creative traction as warhammer.
I love what you do with Homeworld series! I love to listen! Will do the same lore stories for Homeworld 1, Cataclysm and 2 just like you did with Deserts of Kharak (Primaly Anomaly video) ?
HW RPG ? What is that? Yes, Homeword 3 might fill some info we were lacking in Homeworld 2... But I doubt it filla dd some things to Homeworld 1 history.
I was wondering about the railway that connected to the kiith paktu lands in the south pole when playing Deserts of Kharak. It would have been one hell of a valuable target for the Gaalsien. Would the north be protecting it with gun trains? Partially burying sections of it?
Great content! Thanks a lot! Looking forward to new videos like with story around Cataclysm or other! Will finally know what I am doing when HW3 is released:)
And the fact that the galsion (probably misspelled it but screw it) were RIGHT about space travel being a probable suicide endeavor is what makes deserts of Kharak so good.
All bow to crew of Kiith Somtaaw *Warship* Kuun-Lan. They "dig too deep", then spin-kicked Eldritch Abomination and Taiidan remnants into oblivion, saving Hiigarans and possibly every other living creature in galaxy.
The Manaani sounds like they were lifted straight from the Bedouin of our world. And has anyone noticed the Sjet insignia is a smaller sphere over another, casting a shadow? Like the Angel Moon over Higaara
9:14 now that you mention it, it's awfully convenient that of the 5 carriers of the expedition, the only survivor aside from the Kapisi was the Sakala. 🧐
I've never liked the mundane nature of the Kith system's history, I've always believed it would have been more interesting if it had been born out of the ships that carried them to Kharak, which would make a lot more sense than a galaxy spanning Empire made up of a caste system. In a self contained environments cut off from one another, save via short range radio, it would make sense that a kind of caste system would arise, and that association with the ship would arise. It make sense for Kharak, but it makes utterly no sense for Hiigara, pre- or post-exile.
Considering what the Taiidan did to Kharak after the hyperdrive test, seems there may have been something to Gaalsien's fears of space travel bringing destruction 😅
Really great video i could only wish for subtitles or the script on the side of the video so i don't have to rewind if i want to check if i heard smth right(not a native english speaker). I honestly think that the Sidiim in deserts was an isolated case and the captain came across as a zealot to me or possibly making political moves , either that or they got a change in orders during the resupply and he was simply doing what he felt was his duty. Shame we never got a Sakala DLC , it and lack of NG+ are things i feel dragged an otherwise great RTS down
Subtitles to be honest has never been something I gave much thought to. Although now that the channel is growing bigger and open to a wider audience, I should probably look into subtitles more. I dont know if I should promise anything though, because I quite literally have never tried it before and wouldn't know how difficult it would be. But I will make more of an effort to research it going forward. Also your theory about Siidim is plausible. The Sakala could have been acting on it's own agenda as well. Although I assume any answers about the Siidim, and also the Khaaneph were to be part of a follow up that never materialized.
@@michaelandreipalon359 Eh not necessarily. The Siidim decision to betray the coalition was also possibly in part motivated by horrible loses on the home front and desperate need to maintain relevance post war and not just blind fanaticism. Post war they definitely would have been dissolved but i don't think the "harsh fate" is the definitive outcome. They were possibly absorbed by other kiithid. Alternatively were soft genocided and lost the use of their names and were not even allowed to participate in the mothership project with the result being that their name and existence was stricken from history with the "burning".
Im confused i thought the desert people were the people that were exiled after they tried to take over with the super hyperdrive thingy.... sorry im new to this

Perhaps they do it out of fear of rendering the franchise stale and boring through repetition -because otherwise they have proven themselves more than capable of producing deep lore and world-building throughout the series.
Dang I really want to play this now. Please do more lore for this!
At the end of the day, Gaalsien was right. Once the rest of Kiiths and Hiigarans left Kharak, Taaidan Empire glassed the entire planet for breaking the treaty.
"If you dont mind me indulging in speculation a bit"...
No, by all means, please do. Anything to make the video longer. I need more.
A few members of the Kiith Gaalsien did make it to Hiigara they were mainly fighter pilots and such
I must say, I feel like I am watching briefing in a mission, very good lore videos you have here.
i watched all your homeworld lore video's, they are awesome and well done, keep it up, i am not versed with the other subjects on your chanel but i will surely give them a watch, thank you for this amazing content
Your videos deserve so much more views ! Thank you for all your hard work. I love Homeworld's lore, it's so cool that someone explain it !
Every single Kiith sure has at least one big moment of awesome.
About 2:18... where'd you find this, assuming you didn't actually make this yourself, Mac's Lore?
Before their wars of liberation and during the Heresy Wars, Kiith Naabal did a similar routine as the Kadeshi when it came to kiith-sa fleeing from the Siidim and Gaalsien, and the two aforementioned Kiith: "Join us or die."
Majiir Paktu actually took part on the return trip to the north. Alas, he never survived it, but his followers did, and so history was made.
Hope we get to see their varied roles again in HW3. Also, many thanks for the links to the archived extra lore and details of the series, particularly from Cataclysm/Emergence.
Edit: Shame you only showed the Maximals in that nice Beast Wars: Transformers nod. Where are the Predacons at?
I didnt know the lore of the homewold series is so diverse. I didnt know about the series until i tried the demo of the homeworld 3 couple months ago and it got me hooked. Then i started playing the homeworld remastered and ghe deserts of kharak, and jt sparked my love for RTS games since command and conquer days, now I'm hooked on learning the lore of the game and more excited for the homeworld 3 to drop
Informative presentation with outstanding polish and excellent delivery, yet underappreciated. So for that, I'm subbing, hope your channel will grow to become a high point in science-fictions lore channels.
whilst i was aware of most of this, it is alwyas a delight to see others speak upon the lore for the franchise which helped ignite my love for SCIFI.
I cannot wait for Homeworld 3
Your channel is wonderful. Thank you for this content.
Glad to see new content on Homeworld being uploaded.
Thank you so much for this. I can't say how much I appreciate the backgrounds you covered in this video.
This is awesome. Love the format. Cant wait for the story of the Kuun Lan
Not very often I am amazed by lore videos but my God your videos on HW and Earth/Starsiege are diamond! It's a crime that you have so few subs!
Man that is so cool that Homeworld devised an alternate way for a society to invent the Industrial Revolution. Genius!
Amazing video, I can't wait to see your video on Kiith Somtaaw on Homeworld Cataclysm!
The lore of Homeworld is deep and one of my favorites. If I ever win the lottery, I’d fund an animated project to bring it to the big screen, missing no details
Outstanding work there mate. Watching three of your videos was enough to make me subscribe, keep going and you’ll get the recognition I think you deserve!
Love your Homeworld lore videos!
I love what you do with Homeworld series! I love to listen!
Will do the same lore stories for Homeworld 1, Cataclysm and 2 just like you did with Deserts of Kharak (Primaly Anomaly video) ?
Eventually, yes. Although I have to admit I'm somewhat hesitant to go much further because I'm not sure how much the HWRPG and/or HW3 might retcon.
HW RPG ? What is that?
Yes, Homeword 3 might fill some info we were lacking in Homeworld 2... But I doubt it filla dd some things to Homeworld 1 history.
Big thanks for putting this out there, as the supplementary material for the video games is criminally overlooked!
Excellent channel, fantastic level of detail.
I was wondering about the railway that connected to the kiith paktu lands in the south pole when playing Deserts of Kharak. It would have been one hell of a valuable target for the Gaalsien. Would the north be protecting it with gun trains? Partially burying sections of it?
No doubt large sections were underground. The trains likely porpoised every forty or fifty miles on the surface for maybe ten or twenty underground.
The story of the Kithids would make a good tv show
Great content!
Thanks a lot!
Looking forward to new videos like with story around Cataclysm or other!
Will finally know what I am doing when HW3 is released:)
Thirty minutes of Homeworld Lore?! LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO
Really great work on these videos
And the fact that the galsion (probably misspelled it but screw it) were RIGHT about space travel being a probable suicide endeavor is what makes deserts of Kharak so good.
Gaalsien.
I am a simple man. I see Homeworld lore, I press like and subscribe.
The Homeworld story is so underrated.
Those Sajuuk magazine ads broke me. lol! Well done!
You like homeworld and freespace. How have I not heard of you before?
I dont do enough 3AM Clickbait Pranking challenges for the algorithm, probably.
Like the Angel Moon over Higaara
this is awesome. You did amazing I love kiiths
9:14 now that you mention it, it's awfully convenient that of the 5 carriers of the expedition, the only survivor aside from the Kapisi was the Sakala. 🧐
Love this lore, thanks for making the video ^^
I've never liked the mundane nature of the Kith system's history, I've always believed it would have been more interesting if it had been born out of the ships that carried them to Kharak, which would make a lot more sense than a galaxy spanning Empire made up of a caste system. In a self contained environments cut off from one another, save via short range radio, it would make sense that a kind of caste system would arise, and that association with the ship would arise. It make sense for Kharak, but it makes utterly no sense for Hiigara, pre- or post-exile.
you're doing gods work dude.
Wow. This video is golden!! Thank you so much!!
Just great work, love your videos.
Can't wait for homeworld 3 how the Kiith manage after the event of homeworld 2 in 100 years
I feel like the Kiith system would end up producing ethnically homogenous tribes due to its importance of familial community.
Of course, the absence of Siidim notability in the HW1 and Cataclysm manuals do imply a harsh fate to all members of that Kiith.
@@cropathfinder Good points.
Excellent video!!
what is the soundtrack that plays at 23:30? it’s so chill…
You seriously deserve more subscribers.
Im just here waiting for Sommataw :p
We need the Beast War.
Thank you.
Amazing video!
This was great!
Im confused i thought the desert people were the people that were exiled after they tried to take over with the super hyperdrive thingy.... sorry im new to this
So are the Kharakid/Kushan the only humans in the Homeworld universe? Or are all the hyperspace fairing civilizations Humanoid?
Why havent they made a civilization game?
The gaalsien didn't nothing wrong
you got a sub! keep it up
please i need more.
very nice !!!
Good stuff.
and no one asks where all the food and resources came from on a DESSERT planet for so many people before they even had space travel ... was it an underground society ?
Give us beast lore video, or we take beast lore video with your parts
Not cool.
No wonder I like playing as khaaneph
I NEVER KNEW THERE WAS A SEA
What if these stories are true and we are being fed them as video games from a real galactic council?
There are those who say that life here began out there in the spiral galaxy. And that even now, there are Hiigarans, brothers of man, who fight for survival among the heavens.
Wait, I might be mixing up Homeworld with Battlestar Galactica again.
Which BSG? 1978 or 2003?
So they live in extreme nepotism?
More!
Kiith Somtaaw all the way
Say what you want about the Gaalsien, but they were right, Kharak did burn along with almost of all the Kushans.
And so did the franchise.
Music name??
BEAST WARS
*90s guitar riff plays in the distance*
Yesss, that show is good. Same for ReBoot up to Season 3 (and maybe the Daemon saga of Season 4).
So, Mac's Lore, do you also make lore on TV shows and movies?
what is KDS?
Kharakian Dating System, which is a calendar for the Kharakid/Kushan. For more info on that, you might want to check the games' wiki.
So these are humans, right?
Yes
Most of the empires in the game are humans... the game takes place millennia if not tens or hundreds of millennia in the future.
@@vrass775 Aww, there has to be some aliens
Bentusi are pretty fucking Alien
